    She is in impressively secure voice in "Tu che le vanità". That lucky audience got what may well have been the last glimpse of the *real* Callas.

    I just heard Callas sing a couple of high B’s and a high C sharp in the first duet! Very impressive considering this was her retirement.

      At the end of the 1974 she was getting back to form! In fact Di Stefanie had referred that she listen to the tapes of her October and November recitals and she told listen to how much progress I have done! She knew she was getting to form!

    MERCI pour ce document rarissime !!! ''Tu che le vanità'' est particulièrement émouvant et répond au vœu que Callas avait exprimé en 1969 à ''L'invitée du dimanche'' : " J'aimerais finir en beauté."...

    Thanks a lot !!! That's a very precious document. This evening should be restored from the original tapes and published. Maybe I'm crazy but with a text with all the precisions needed it should be. If I was on the theatre, I should be driven crazy as we have all the opera world here. She was back ans the medium was quite better, nearly back at normal not following the opening advices from GDS anymore. Well, we can't do anything in 2022, only being to thankful to both of them and you for your work.

    She said it herself - she’s in much more secure voice, with less of the vocal “troubles” that plagued her in the mid 1960’s. I HATE that legend has it that she was horrible on this tour, NOT TRUE.

    Bravoooooo !! Una orquesta sinfónica es lo qué les hubiera faltado , aun así , es Impresionante. Callas está sublime . Muchas gracias por publicar este concierto histórico.

    This is a very extensive recital 14 songs in total both, its a lot!! She was incredible here! They should keep touring an in a year more she could easily come back to a complete Opera or solo recitals with Orquestra... 😢😢😢

      In Fact Callas was rehearsing Tosca with Di Stefano for Japan in 1975! Unfortunatelly due to Onassis death, she never sang the 3 performances scheduled and was substituted by Montserrat Caballe!

      También estaba previsto para junio o septiembre de 1976 , un recital con orquesta de María Callas sola , en Londres . Pero al final , tampoco fue realizado .

    I saw her in Chicago on this last concert tour. She sang some of the same arias and was in similar voice. I am sure we all expected some diminished voice. What was most stunning, though not a surprise, was seeing how she was able to transform into each character during the aria introduction by merely moving her head, or her eyes, or standing slightly differently. This I think is the kind of ability that the old original magical meaning of "glamour" meant. One can only imagine how that ability made her fully staged and in full voice performances so spectacular.

    I know I'm probably in the minority here. But. I think she's lost the "magic" of Callas in this performance. I can't put my finger on why, she's in better voice here than many points in the 60s, but Im just not feeling it here. There's something missing, I don't know what.

    • @OperaMyWorld
      @OperaMyWorld  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It was not the old Callas for sure! But the vocal progress is obvious! Still you will not hear her prime Voice! Maybe also her decline psychology was a big matter for this last period of her life! And maybe you are judge having that in your mind...I have somehow a same feeling...so I understand what you mean! Anyway thank u for your comment!

      Well, Maria had the ability to do divine things, even when her instrument was not cooperating. Here I hear a fairly secure (although much lighter) instrument, but the Callas spark has gone out. I read somewhere that by this point she felt she had lost her "nerve". I wonder if that's what I'm hearing. Still, as a historical document, this is a fantastic recording, and it's great to hear her instrument WASN'T in complete tatters at this stage.

      Toda la gira por Japón , María tuvo muchos problemas con su hernia, incluso con sangre . Y aún así , su voz está en muy buen estado , mejorando en cada concierto . Pero ella no se encontraba bien de salud .
