No soprano had a more exciting, thrilling voice so full of pathos and power than this at this time in her life and prior to 1954. ❤ And, yes, beautiful this voice is!!!
Timeless. How fortunate for those who witnessed your performances. The passing of the years you remain forever remembered. We treasure the gift you left us.
Thick, dark, heavy yet agile, and strong like an airplane engine blast. Lol. The perfect combination of a sound, found in full glory in a single and unique human throat at its peak, with absolutely no limits. Simply overwhelming. La Divina lives forever!
This is a miracle!! Especially the Bellini Cabaletta. No one sang those downward runs with this brilliance and ease. Never! And without lightening the voice. Every note gets its full weigt. And the e-flat in the end... Perfection!!!

Beloved Marx What great gifts you bestow , heartfelt thanks. She draws us like a magnet. She is utterly ‘present’ - behind every note she sings. She ‘Makes’ us listen. There is an undeniable presence of being ‘in ‘ the music. Unique, brave, demanding Maria. You give us a taste of a world of music never before heard and never again achieved. When someone asked Tullio Serafin what he actually thought of Callas' voice, the great maestro shook his head and mused, "Which voice? Norma? Violetta?"
The technique is a marvel as is the power of the voice and musicianship, but to consider how young she was at the time, it makes one gasp at the depth of her expression. She earned the title of "La Divina" the moment she recorded the first note.

I think we've been told over and over again that it wasn't beautiful that we haven't been able to truly hear her voice without this haze of years of criticism. Beauty is indeed subjective, and what was one considered beautiful may not be today, and vice versa. During the Renaissance, heavier women were deemed desirable and skinny women were unattractive. So it is with other standards of "beauty."
I guess if you compare the timbre of her voice to someone like Leontyne Price it's not conventionally beautiful. Dramatic and full of colour - yes. But 'beautiful'? No.
Some have ears, but can't hear. Silly to let them bother you. My aunt, may she r.i.p., worshipped Liberace, but can't stand Richter, complaining that he 'plays like a farmer digging for potatoes". I only smiled and nod my head each time.
@@baritonebynightYeah, like the old clichë goes. But the point was that Callas' voice was never even THAT unusual or strange in comparison to other voices in her category & even just in general for it to merit being exceptionalized & seen in that regard. So perhaps the subjectivity has really been less about the perception of "beauty" than the other stuff within those people who actually couldn't even aspire to her standards if they wanted to. And you know they SOOOO want to! Bad. Though, they won't explicitly admit to it. So what does one do to feel better about not being able to reach the distant stars? The size of this voice by 1949 is RIDICULOUS! Which individual that calls themselves a human being is capable of so much natural UNFORCED volume? How does that even work?
This is Callas phrasing in Bellini's music, with all the nuances, shadows, rubato required by this music! Listen to the micro agogica in her last coloratura of the cantilena ! Chopin was inspired by Bellini music; Wagner also wanted his singers oat Bayreuth Theater to be coached by Manuel Garcia in "belcanto" way of singing the music for the premiere. Her voice might not be as Ponselle's but Callas phrasing in Bellini is unique indeed ! ♥
My goodness, this is incredible. The size of the voice and the absolute steadiness of tone combined with all her musical precision. I have never heard her sounding this good. (At the time one would celebrate the successor of Ponselle.)

Giuditta Pasta alternated opposite types of opera, but that, together with other things, tired her. La Divina's voice, if she didn't had so many physical and psychological pains, would had been a lot more preserved 😢, because her technique was the absolute best, and she had the greatest chest voice of all
@@giovic9802 I think Callas' voice had to be constructed and maintained with immense training and discipline. It didnt come naturally. I dont know of any other singer who trained as relentlessly as she did in her "great period" roughly up to the time of meeting Onassis. After that, a combination of less training and age took their toll on the fragile construction. Carol Maria Gilulini said that during her 'great period" she lived like a monk ---- nothing but rehearsal and home, all day every day. In this respect, her boring much older husband Meneghini was actually a benefit.
She said the only important teachers she ever had were De Hidalgo and Serafin. At the time of this recording she already knew Serafin. I never heard of Cusinati. And she certainly didnt need anybody to prevent her from "getting away with something." She was the greatest perfectionist in opera history. Since her early teens. And she was vastly knowledgeable about all aspects of opera.
Her voice was not really natural. She had to construct and maintain it with ferocious training and discipline. After 15 years of living like a monk with a boring old husband, but which was good for the voice, it is no wonder she wanted to branch out and have a life. Even though Onassis ended up sort of leaving her (she says he didnt really) she says she was extremely happy in the 8 years they had together. Who can blame her? But no, the fragile construction that was her voice couldnt survive unless she continued to train like a maniac.
The Best ever ❤

And a 😘 darlink 🇩🇪. Arnold Bourbon Amaral
I heard maria callas at the old met in Tosca and recital with DeStefano. I believe her personal life was the weight that brought her down at the end.
Her voice was not really natural. She had to construct and maintain it with ferocious training and discipline. After 15 years of living
like a monk with a boring old husband, but which was good for the voice, it is no wonder she wanted to branch out and have a life. Even though Onassis ended up sort of leaving her (she says he didnt really) she says she was extremely happy in the 8 years they had together.
Who can blame her? But no, the fragile construction that was her voice couldnt survive unless she continued to train like a maniac.
👏👏👏👏👏👏
Hechiza con su canto de sirena...inigualable. Actuaba con su voz
