With all this content I will know my camera more than anyone else. As for this option, I have always had it activated, but since I edit the raw files and I trust my histogram a lot, I must be careful.

Very useful, well structured analysis. Thank you for putting this all together.

I shoot JPEGs for my sports workflows with 1Dxs. The auto light optimizer is pure gold when set to standard in most daytime light conditions. It also can be beneficial in poor night lighting situations to help tone down highlights and fill shadows.
I shoot RAW+JPEG to hedge my bets and to allow processing of portfolio quality images.

You know, that's really nice to know that this gets used by people, and seriously. I don't know what it is about online discussions about camera stuff, but the most vocal people are almost always the ones bashing and decrying anything that isn't raw only. So it's always nice to hear that this stuff gets used by more than just total novices.

@@PointsInFocus i shoot nature mostly, last year by mistake I left it to JPEG, came home and realized my mistake, did not regret that day, I was surprised by the quality and able to do corrections, old JPEGS were different than the current ones. Keep up the excellent instructions and neutrality, highly satisfied with your channel. R5 and R6 user.

I keep it off. I have played with it in Canon DPP 4, with the raw files, and found, if needed, the lowest setting gave the most natural results. 😊

Great video about one of life's greatest mysteries!
It will be interesting to see research on what the A (Auto) picture profile does, technically.

That would be a fun one to dig into, but short of having access to Canon's source code, I'm not sure there's a reasonable way to even begin to evaluate that.

I was looking at this setting scratching my head before a photoshoot. Trying to use a ETTL Godox flash with R5C and I set the shutter too high or low, it doesnt fire. Exposure simulation throws me off using The flash. I made out pretty good.😅

I have a M50 and a M200, I struggle everyday with highlights. Suggestion: Make a video with comparisson for videos and high contrast enviroment for Auto Lighitning Optimizer and Highlight Tone Priority for comparission with samples. I couldn´t find anything like this. Cheers

That's not a bad idea. I'll add it to the potential videos list. Though at the moment my plate is very full with a number of other projects so it may not be something I can get to anytime soon.
