    Guys this is a fly back chronograph, column wheel, with apparently vertical clutch (he does not seem to mention, but the start up smoothness indicates this). This is rarely so accessible at under $5000. In particular a fly back function almost always pushes the price close to $10k. This is a good value price, believe that or not.

      Thanks for the comment! I think that you are right about the vertical clutch. I couldn't find any reference to a vertical clutch on Eterna's site.

    This is one of the best in depth reviews I have seen. The camera work is excellent and enhances your comments (really one of the best in the business). 👍🏼And your comment about your progressive lenses cracked me up - because I can relate!

    You just sold me this watch! Must unsubscribe...this is expensive. (p.s.-the Autavia date is even smaller).

    Great review and great watch. 2 problems: it's too big at 45mm you can use it as a wall clock and.. strap is too short! If you're wrist is bigger than 7" you run out of strap.. how can Eterna do that on a $4500 watch. Anyway other than that it's great.

    Certaine marque reste dans le consensus sans jamais prendre de risque, avec des mouvements sans complications, l’exemple du Rolex Daytona qui n’est pas un flyback, pourtant très utile sur un tachymètre. Oméga surf sur ses seamaster, réussies il faut l’avouer sans vraiment de nouveauté, même si je pense que Bond aurait préféré cette Eterna super Kontiki FLYBACK avec son bracelet mailles milanaises ( Seamaster « no Time to Die » !!!!)

    If you're just learning about the history of Eterna Watches in August 2017 how did you land a job with Watchuseek?

    I'm sorry for my ignorance in this. Is a column wheel the same as a vertical clutch movement?

    • @sitkiewitz
      @sitkiewitz 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To my understanding (I'm not a watchmaker) the column wheel has to do with the stop/start/reset function of the movement and provides a nice push feel. The vertical clutch is the system that takes energy from the mainspring for use in the stopwatch. A vertical clutch will give the seconds hand a positive start stop with no jumping. So in the review I was mistaken in saying that non jumping of the seconds hand was due to the column when it is from the vertical clutch. However, in Eterna's info on the movement, I couldn't find anything about a vertical clutch in the movement.

    Nice watch-unfortunately bought out by china and is a complete mess. 2017 was the last time they were at Basel. Hope they shitcan the Chinese and get it together.

    Aside from being grossly oversized, my one quibble with the dial is that unlike the truncated markers at 3 and 9, there is none under the date window. Heck of a watch, were it not in the Invicta realm of cartoonish big.
    Also, come on. There is nothing dressy about something this big on a rubber strap. The strap could be changed, but one would still be the dork of the party at a formal event.

    Pretty, nice style influences, but way over size, and unwearable.

    Interesting facts about Eterna's history - ball bearings on the rotor and the fact that they are the parent company to ETA. Never new that, not to mention a shameful fact that I never heard of Eterna company. Thanks for the educational review. Loved the shape of the case looking from its side (but not so much the lugs as a part of the case) and a very cool crown with those ball bearings in there. The only comment about your review I have (and I hope you don't mind) is its length - 24 minutes is way too long in my humble opinion. Don't you agree?

    Nice review, but $4,700 for an Eterna!!! Hmmm, then should justify Rolex adjusting the price of the new Batman GMT to $30,000 due to "value add correction".
    If you price it to the moon they will come. I firmly believe they overprice these watches as a psychological way of adding worthless value to these watches and thus seducing people to buy them at these hideous prices.

    I can't believe this watch is nearly five grand. Like, wtf? It honestly looks cheap, and considering that you can get a nice Carrera, a Speedmaster, a gorgeous Superocean Heritage etc etc for that money (or less), I would definitely be very sorry for anyone who got duped into buying the watch on display here.
