Hi, one of the many random people you met at the Ferries on Film meetup in Seattle - just wanted to say it was a lot of fun meeting you guys and glad you had such a good time in Seattle! I was the one with the weird soviet FED 2 Leica copy.
I live in Portland and it’s kind of trippy to see you going to so many places I see all the time 😅 also, I just painted my nails nearly the same color, making things even weirder. Cape Disappointment is so underrated. Always happy to see a new video from you 👏🏻
I'm photographing almost my entire life and I hate to admit it but I suck at forrest photos. The high contrast between shadows and sun coming through the branches is always killing me. You make it in both, video and analog photography, look like it's the most easy thing ever. Would really love a video about how you approach difficult lighting. I know you did the metering video but I watched it and I still suck.
@@unn4medfeel1ng coincidentally I've been looking up different diffusion filters this morning. If I remember it correctly he uses Black Pro Mist but don't quote me on that.

I've literally been binge-watching every single video of yours for a week or so, and after this I do not what to do with my life!!! I love you Jason... oh I meant Monica & Baxter:))
Hm I guess this explains the Ferries on Film spike in followers about a month ago... Thanks for joining us and for your glowing review of the meetup. We enjoyed sharing a glimpse of the Seattle film community with your group!
Dude! As a Seattle based photographer, it was super cool to see the subjects you chose to shoot in Pike, on the ferry, etc. Also had no idea Ferries on Film existed, thanks for the req, will definitely check out! Also, in my experience down at the Cape, the real Disappointment are the friends we made along the way… Loved the vid!
Wonderful documentary, Jason. Very happy you are happy with the results. The ferry interiors are rich in detail and mood, and you truly nailed the “Hopper” building exterior shot. Looking forward to the next road trip. Cheers.
I respect how much you NEVER talk about the great you film with. It would be so easy to, I'm sure, but I honestly appreciate that it's only ever about the film cameras, lenses, and film stocks.
I walked from 9pm to 7pm the next day to get to that abandoned nuclear park during a training event once. Looked awesome seeing the lights of it off in the distance getting closer for a full day!
Always love to watch these long form vids and get a feel for your flow, style, and composition. Absolutely loved this one! background vibes were immaculate and shots were 10/10. Nice one!
Awesome trip! i love my lovely state of Washington, its so beautiful here. Cape Disappointment is so beautiful, I love our coast line and the sound. Ruby beach is so wonderful, i hope to head there this winter to get some pictures. I hope yall got some mac and jacks beer while you were here, its not the best beer but its great local after a long day of hiking around. You should head up here during our different seasons, the length of daylight changes drastically and how the sun lands changes so much. Getting up into the mountains on a rainy day or a snowy day, fog filled valleys, trees as far as the eyes can see, snow covered mountain tops. its crazy beautiful here. So many different environments, weather patterns, variations of the light. I am kind of surprised yall passed over going to the Olympic National Forest and all of its crazy cool places. There are some fire watch towers you can climb, there are some amazing outlooks and old structures everywhere.
I really like the 'roll recap' style of showing your shots in this video, maybe Im dumb and its not a new thing but it think it works better in this long form video. Some fantastic shots, keep it up!
If the Nacho Fries Box is not available, the go-to is both a loaded potato griller AND a beefy nacho griller. Maybe a quesarito if I'm exceptionally hungry. Also as someone who's getting back into photography, I find your content incredibly inspiring and effortless to watch. I've even decided to declare bankruptcy and have my grandparents Olympus OM-2 restored and to start shooting because fuck it. Why not.
Just buy youtube premium if you’re gonna complain about ads. There’s a solution. Creators still get paid and you dont have to watch 4 million ads anymore.
This was a very nice video to fall asleep to Well, I’m not joking. I did fall asleep to it but then went back and watched what I missed. I recently started with film and have always found a lot of inspiration in your videos. Thanks!
I say this with complete humility and some vulnerability… - I’ve wanted to take my life and last year was a struggle. Still going through it but it’s so much better … Photography has kept me grounded. And your deadpan deliveries and quick wit makes me laugh and smile without fail. I wanted to thank you, and I wish you nothing but the best sir. - I just got my hands on a Canonet QL17 GIII and a Minolta 7s (all for under $250) and I could not be more fucking excited
Another amazing video - thanks Jason. If you're looking for a video topic how about doing something where you explain your thinking/process around the concepts of "keepers" verses "portfolio" shots. What's your portfolio? what has influenced your thinking around what is and isn't worthy of a place.
Living in Victoria I was smiling that entire portion of the video. It was so cool seeing another perspective on the streets and locations I've been to so many times. Next time extend your road trip up our coast here too!
When I moved to portland in 2010 to go to pnca for photography, the first place I lived was in the appartment building on the right at 4:18. Shot soooo much film and crappy early dslr on those streets and in that forest. stupid nostalgia, making me sad n stuff. luckily i have this flaming hot mountain dew to ease my suffering.
Loved to see that Midwest Film Co. got in on the action. I've got some Vision3 50D & 250D from them that I'm excited to shoot with - especially after seeing your Cinestill 800T shots. The interior of that boat in Seattle was 🙌
i absolutely love the way you document these road trips. if you're ever in Vancouver, Canada I would be honoured to show you around, have a chuckle with you, and attempt to make good photographs.
As a resident of the Oregon Coast, I'm glad you came out but next time, try going south when you hit the 101. You'll find some good spots from Lincoln City to Waldport.
Another awesome video. I don’t know if it’s your videos, or the latest release from Bullet From My Valentine, but I now have a strong urge to paint my fingernails. Seriously though, this is quickly becoming my favorite film photography TH-cam channel.
I must have put 30 or 40 rolls through my WP-1, It's a fantastic option for bad weather. These Days though I'm much more likely to grab my Konica Genba Kantoku DD, since that one is better designed for cold weather, and it has a 40 and 60 mm focal length.
One thing I've noticed is that filters really attract the sun and cause flares and reflections. It also eliminates the purpose of lens hoods as it draws the element more out into the light.
Random point, I'm only three minutes in, but those Canons are interesting. I have one. The WP-1 is "weatherproof" as there were some differences in manufacturing which lead to it not being properly waterproof - however the AS-1 that I have is a fully underwater camera. A thing you can do with these is unscrew the "camera" inside the housing and test, I think its four screws, can't remember but can send you a gram video of how to remove it. Then you can dunk the housing underwater and see if it leaks. Anyway, on-wards.
The first lighthouse you visited was North Head lighthouse and the other one was Cape Disappointment a little way down the road is Waikiki beach where the epic wave photos are taken during the King tides in the winter
Nice to see Victoria through your perspective. The dragon mural you shot in Chinatown was redone in a completely different style shortly after. I hope you were able to check out camera traders while you were in Market Square!
Dude, I flew into Seattle that weekend. It was hell at the airport. Waited in line at the rental car place for 2 and half hours and then almost didn't get a car cause they almost ran out. I literally did almost this exact same trip as you, but I spent some time in the cascades and some in Vancouver as well.
Shoutout to the decontamination specialist.
Absolutely love these long road trip videos. Completely unique on youtube - that "hopper" house photo was epic
Only TH-camr where I'll actually sit through a 75 minute episode
There are only a couple of them on my list, too. This is one.
Hell, I'm even here re-watching a 75 minute episode. After finishing re-watching the 168 minute episode

It is dependant on your chosen film's dynamic range. Slide film is very bad at it, while Cinestill 800T that Jason uses has a very wide DR.
Diffusion filters may help if you shoot digital, though I don't know which of them specifically Jason uses
@@unn4medfeel1ng coincidentally I've been looking up different diffusion filters this morning. If I remember it correctly he uses Black Pro Mist but don't quote me on that.

Waiting at the airport for way too long to head home from vacation. Jason, sometimes your long videos are a lifesaver.
I've been watching your videos every so often and have been binging your channel recently; really happy about a longer upload^^ thank you.

That was a great watch, and super worthy of an hour + of my time. And, I agree, some really awesome shots!
