It's like when you finally can turn off the lights in the basement without having to run away from the scary monsters... something I have yet to acheive
He shits on himself so much that’d you’d almost be tricked into thinking that his videos are just average 😂, when it’s clear that he puts a lot effort into it.
I am speaking for the 12 of us that watch through to the end: you own the long-format photo Vlog space. I like the fact you include the photo missteps and mistakes.
In a time when film photography TH-cam is declining a bit as folks are switching to short and rather uninspiring videos, Jason puts out these epic long film trips over and over again. Maybe I am just getting old, but 5-10-minute videos don't work for me, I need time to sit down, get a drink, get in the right mood, and then really enjoy the journey. I know 20+ min videos on location are time-consuming and expensive, but they are also phenomenal. Initially, Jason's humor wasn't my taste but I have come to love the content here. Keep up the great work and thanks!
Same. The first vids I was like hmm this dude is too portlandia for me. Now I’m pouring whiskey and settling in while wishing for my own film adventure.
This video gives me so much wanderlust. I'm the guy that says he prefers 4 wheels only, but this also made me want to ride a motorcycle. It just seems like there's so much freedom to it! I recently found this channel and have since subscribed. I also recently bought a Canon AE-1 as my first film camera, and now want to try other types of photography! Thank you for your channel!
The opposite, too: you can go as fast as you want! No need to wait for anyone to finish up for 20 minutes to continue on when you're also running against the clock
Really love these longer road trip vlogs, more please! Love the edits and the story telling you do and the sense of humour, already looking toward to the next one!
You talk regularly about making important/recognised photographic work.... but I dont see any other photog making such engaging, long-form road videos. Maybe this is the work you were hoping to make. I love them. Well done!
Unless you’re rich I’d not come. It’s an amazing state, I’ve lived here my whole life, but housing is too expensive. Renting isn’t cheap either. I’d say just visit. Or move here if you want to!
@@asmahism I'm not rich. anywhere worth living is going up in price Colorado is not special in that regard. but yes good point if you do move there expect every local to have an attitude and wish you'd go back where you came from. fuck that you get one life do with it what you want and go where you want.
@@themeatinthemiddle sure…. I don’t care who you are or where you lived or want to live. Come live here. Or don’t. I’m not one of the dumb asses who calls it Calirado and hates people moving here. I just hate how much fucking living here costs. It’s a great place but not that special.
I’m a new sub here, and new to film photography in general, but I have to say this video is exceptional. It’s exactly what TH-cam is for, beautifully shot, inspiring and personal. Happy I found your channel, looking forward to seeing what you make next!
Jason is so good in film photography that he can shoot three stocks simultaneously with two cameras! Also I almost cracked the code with the changing aspect ratios…
In regard to the changing aspect ratios, I believe the 360 camera is 4:3 and the B-Roll camera is either 16:9 or 17:9. I also think he may add a 4:3 matte occasionally just for taste.
Helluva a road trip, i kept thinking he’s missing out on beautiful camping though. The Live, laugh, hunt tattoo is the coolest tat I’ve ever seen just because it’s a cool piece of a journey
Jason, your videos are always a joy to watch, and this one is no different. Gorgeous photos of course, great videography and editing, but on top of all that, your needle drops are absolutely on point to convey the mood.
I love these long videos of you on long trips like this. I live in Norway and will probably never visit the US, so this is the next best thing for me. Y’all have some amazing landscapes over there!
Damn! I knew I saw you at Red Rocks for the Lord Huron show. Didn’t have a chance to say hey, blinked and you were gone. Told my girlfriend “don’t worry, if it was him he’ll make a video”
I really like the look of that infrared film in the desert. I started out wondering why he was loading it in an SLR. Then he explained. As for the focus offset for infrared, we old guys learned that back in the 1970s, when infrared was more popular, because there was a lot more of it around and lenses actually had the offset mark on the lens. Infrared is a game for rangefinders.
I've been struggling to combine my love for film photography with motorcycle touring which is another favourite of mine, your video certainly gave me ideas on how to do it... Time to shop for a compact zoom and a tank bag. Also your videos stills are all great shots in their own right. Amazing production!
I’ll be honest, I found your channel via the Coast To Coast road movie. The fact that you’re a photographer was a bonus. Now I follow you for the photography but any time you get back on the bike is a must-see for me :) 🇬🇧
20:52 the timing on this edit, joke and well passing of JB lined up akwardly here. Also, love the infrared work, despite the softness. I also love the long episodes like this of any trip!
I live in North Macedonia and this is definitely the best photography video I have seen so far on TH-cam. Keep it up Jason. I started with film in the 1990's moved over to digital and you might just inspire me to get back to film. Thank you.
WOW, what a trip, what photos! I once ran into a mudstorm in Arizona or Utah. Thankfully not on a bike. Duststorm met thunderstorm in the desert and it was literally coming down on the windshield as mud. May we never! I did like the indoor flash at the visitor's center. Oh yeah, particularly like the B&W of the cowboys at the gas station.
A 1h18m Grainydays video, on the same evening that videos are also released by Bad Flashes (obviously), Willem, Brae and Graincheck. The analogue force is strong with us today
Jason, it’s really awesome to see you go through Arizona and through my hometown that is Tuba City, about an hour from Kayenta. Beautiful landscape that is the red rocks and you captured it beautifully! I hope the reservation brought out some good views, have future safe travels from NM.
At 6:00...that's the Desert Center...as a Trucker AND a Photographer, I have spent many a breaks there walking up and down the place with my camera in hand...I stop by every chance I get! Head's up...just a few miles East is "Eagle Mountain", another break spot of mine as well as the place where I have taken my all time best Astro shots! Great video as always! 🙌🏾
Ouray is so beautiful. About 20 years ago I went on a family road trip that took us through California, Arizona, New Mexico, then Colorado and back through Utah and Nevada), and ended up there in Ouray and it was breathtaking. Makes me want to go back big time!
Top stuff. The Superia shots were great, me thinks. Come to South Africa. Shoot here. You won't regret it. Also, I am so primed to start doing photo trips for once.
Really enjoyed the video. You didn’t miss anything in Albuquerque. I live here. I spend a lot of time riding rural New Mexico, Colorado and Utah. Be safe!
Thank you for your videos, Jason. Your videos feel like an escape for me since I discovered you during the early stage of covid. I started film photography since then and I am grateful for that.
this is an awesome channel, love the movie style narrative video...and since i am into photo stuff nice .. man.. even you have a automatic bike.. ;) or seems like it.. hahha .. waiting for another epic video
This video makes me so happy! Our flight to Denver leaves in eight days. Haven't been to the Staats for four years and I'm really looking forward to seeing the Rockies again and having breakfast in Salida!
Amazing video, I love photography road trips, except now i do it with a car. Very stimulating for the adventurous type. Freedom is needed always. The true north strong and free...Canada.
Again, one of your very best, thank you. Beautiful imaging especially the IR monos. One thing that puzzles me is how you shoot through an R72 hand held, amazing. Thanks for sharing.
Your videomaking skills are outstanding, Jason! The only thing I am going to ask is if you stay a bit longer on certain places to take more shots if possible. However, I do understand that you have a timetable to stick to. Thank you for giving us good photography content!
Thank you, I love the humor, your dedication making these long videos that keep me up at 02:12am and good music choices. Oh yeah and photography, uncanny. ❤

For a guy that only shoots film I'm beginning to think he uses a digital camera for the video part.
Yep, been getting that feeling too. Something is definitely amiss.
I mean, at least tape the video!
