If you find the chat replay distracting you should be able to close it by clicking the "X" in the upper right. Thanks to all who joined in on the premiere!
We all watch plenty of YT. But then you find someone that does the subject you like, the way no one else does it, does it to perfection, and makes you laugh too. Priceless.
Give him some time, he will come around and end up regretting this comment. I'm guessing he will get an Apollo City next, then on to something like a Dualtron X Limited...
@dcd exactly. I started with some lame cheap Segway. But then you understand that with all gear and tripod any hill will become impossible to climb, any bump you'll feel with your spine, and you can't go further than 10-15 miles. Cheap scooters are soo limiting. And good expensive ones will help you big way
You may doubt your images all day long but man, your video storytelling skills are something else. Wide shot, no other camera in view. Cut to over-the-shoulder, no witness cam. Back to wide, just you. The kitchen reveal. Cutting right as the cars enter frame to show us the tricky timing and awareness required. Wide angle while sitting in the study, emphasizing the personal development gained from the book (could have shot long from outside the door, but didn't). All while firing off dry jokes left and right.
Your best video yet. The edits, the sound, the mix of footage shot from different sources, the storytelling, your humour...It feels like you spent a lot of time on it. It is work that comes from a deliberate, dedicated, and passionate artist. This is the polar opposite of a TH-camr who needs to push out content just to satisfy the algorithm. Have a beer on me, Nick! Thanks!
Hi Nick- hoping that you and everyone that you care about are safe and secure. Furthermore I hope that all of your photo locations have survived the current crisis. PS- love the video.
Nick tells you these videos are about his photos, but clearly executes a level of mastery in his videography skills as well. Loved the "study" reveal lol.
It's been great watching his video skills grow over the years. Always solid, but over the last year or so they've really ramped up. And I do video for a living. Lol
"six episodes into your fifth rewatching of The Office" instead of progressing your photography career... frickin ouch man, I felt that one. A bunch! This episode was such a blast to watch. You're quite the entertainer there, Nick. Had me chuckling all through the 26 minutes. Not at your photos though, obviously.. And the attention to detail is spot on. Like when you went to get more cream and cut to - wait for it - not your own kitchen but what turned out to be a shop window. Blind. Mown. Cheers from cold dark Sweden!
The shot reading on the toilet 😂😂😂😂 another great one Nick. I always learn so much. I wish you were a little easier on yourself. But that perfectionism, man, gets such great results.
22:44 I can't be alone in thinking that seeing all 3 of the photos together is more interesting than any one of them alone, right? I know that's not your usual style, but I think the fun is in seeing all of the little differences that a few minutes make.
This was delightful (as ever). Personally, the 13 minute shot is the winner just for that little bit of detail on the tree bark to ground it a bit better, rather than being an ominous void of trunk and branches
I always look forward to new videos from you. The humor with the scooter at the beginning kind of set the tone. The series is pretty cool and I look forward to seeing (over lengthy time and patience on both our parts) how it turns out. I am with you on the 50% split in the two images. Where I differ with you is in the idea that a second attempt at 16.5 will yield the perfect result. Some things just can't be accomplished by splitting the difference. The digital guy in me turns to LR to solve those problems, because like you I am an impatient artist. 🤣
I agree with what others have said. I’ve been following your channel for years; it’s in my top 3. I think this may be my favorite video you’ve done to date. The editing, framing, and dialogue were so well done. I laughed out loud a few times. In regard to the photos, as a stand alone shot I prefer the 20 minutes after photo. But if you were to combine the two shots of the building as a diptych in an exhibit or as a layout in a book, definitely the 13 minute after. I absolutely love all your work. Thank you for continuing to share it!
ı LOVE this video man. I love your obsession to little details, the way you view the signs and stores and the meaning they have for you. Like that is just so... I don't know, interesting. This is the type of interest and ambition I want to have for my own photography too. Even if it's not stores and signs, I'm hoping to have such interest in a form of subject too one day, and be able to capture its essence with my own camera. Really enjoyed this video and LOVE the photography!!! (Never used this TH-cam "Thanks!" thins, but I wanted to show how meaningful this video was for me and how it motivates me.) Much love
Thanks for the mini course on composition. Also for showing how much more thought, effort and time it takes to get those last few details that make the big difference.
Man your videos are so peaceful and interesting to watch, I just love how real your process is and how you document it. Id say your work is amongst my all time favourite from a current photographer. Thank you for continuing to take the time and effort to bring us along on your journey.
Absolute GOLD Nick. Have always loved your process and attention to detail, add the scooter and you are at a new level of coolness. Keep it up, and never change.
Thank you for doing this, I grew up in Orange County I spent the first 18 years of my life in a 3bdrm 1bath house off chapman and magnolia. Ive been meaning to get off my ass and photograph the places and scenes of my childhood/teenage adventures/first car/first job...symbols of my life before today. but I let the depression and the self loathing and whatever else lull me back to uncreative version of who I don't want to be. thanks for the inspiration.
Your best video..perhaps out of all. Cheeky, satirical, photos are killer, the sound track, use of silence--all just ramp this one to an eleven. Loved the picture reviews! consider yourself the king of frontage road TH-camrs! Perhaps an ignominious title, but hard one! Thank you for this.
Thanks to your "Eye Syphilis Billboard" video, I now hate LED's. I notice them everywhere as I'm driving around at night and my hatred grows by the day 😅
One of your best videos yet. I hope to be driving or walking down Chapman, either here in Fullerton (where I live) or in Orange, and see you scooting around so I can say hi.
Can I call you something? I am an Australian, so it is a term of endearment. You are one lucky Bastard. OK, lucky and talented, I do have to give you that. The subject matter that you have available on Chapman Avenue is perfect. And the fact that you have been able to capture it without making it look like cinestill and gas stations 100% does it justice. I really enjoyed this video and the set that you have shown. Hopefully its still standing 😥
This video is incredible!! It has everything and it does remind me of Dwight or Michael! Love the energy and cinematic experience! Thank you Mr. Carver I needed this today
Nick, you're bringing back memories with the start of this video. That McDonald's was the one I ate an uncountable, and sometimes uncomfortable, number of lunches at. I worked within a minute or two walk from there for almost 15 years.
MASTERPIECE TH-cam video! Your hard work is seen in every aspect. The "the office" bit struck me hard in the gut. And the "come back in perfect conditions" cut was a masterpiece transition. ❤
Listen. I'm always into a Nick Carver video. You haven't missed once IMNHO. This was a pure masterpiece. Got a little Wes Anderson vibes. Got a lot of good Nick Carver vibes, and of course superb photography content. Thank you!
Nice work Nick! I’m glad you’re back to doing “on location” videos again. These are the ones that I get most out of. Put me down for a pre-order of the book!
I never send comments to the videos I watch, not sure why. Self conscious I guess. But I've been watching your videos for several years now with growing enjoyment...........but you've surppassed yourself with this one. Great addition to your work.
I've come to really enjoy your videos Nick. This one brings back many memories. I remember doing a photo shoot with the famous burlesque performer and vintage fashion icon, Dita Von Teese, at a beautifully restored home from the 30's or 40's. It was just off Chapman in the area your're shooting here. The wife of a fan of hers contacted her about a birthday present of a photoshoot with her husband's beloved vintage auto from the 40's. One of the things I wanted to do, but just got too busy to do it, was document homes and businesses around SoCal. Primarily Orange and Huntington Beach. Hard to do when going to school and working full time.
Great comeback, Nick! I really enjoyed your videography and, as always, your outstanding photography. I can't wait to get my copy of the "Chapman Avenue" Zine/Book.
Hey, my man Nick is a City of Orange local! When I saw Chapman Avenue, I wondered where on earth it could have existed other than my hometown. Turns out we are neighbors, haha! Also a fantastic video, you continually inspire me with your photographic style and method!
The subtle, dry delivery of the thinking man’s sightgags are becoming such a finely-tuned calling card. And the cinematography with the camera across the street on location was next level. (part of me wishes you had also put that frame on film - the lighting in the window was so good). Great video
Didn't know where this was going at the 16:24 mark... 20 minutes after sunset is my favorite. Also good to see I'm not the only one liking (old) signs.
I love the scenes of you on your scooter. The first ones with you whizzing by are so funny. But, the very last ones of the little shadow of the scooter going by was just so cool! (Of course, the images are great too, and your behind the scenes discussion). Congrats.
Nick I too did a photo walk in the city of Orange I recently reconditioned a Pentax Spotamatic SP11 camera I bought a kit with the camera , accessories and Takumar lenses . The camera needed new light Seals so I replaced them. I shot my half the pictures of the first roll of film in the city of Orange.with a Takumar 35mm 3.5 lens . I photographed the Plaza Foutain on Chapman a number of restaurants on my walk to Chapman College. I photographed some of the College buildings and College entrance sign. I was surprised all my pictures came out and were in focus considering I have not used a film camera since 2005 when I bought my first DSLR
Definitely go for the 13min one. it just feels amazing and i much prefer the lower contrast and it matches the other chapman ave photo much better in my opinion. fantastic photography as always, nick!
If you find the chat replay distracting you should be able to close it by clicking the "X" in the upper right. Thanks to all who joined in on the premiere!
The cinematography of this video is so good. I love the reveal around 16:30 to show you're not in a kitchen, but outside a display kitchen
this was honestly very masterful
yes, I was sure he was in his kitchen getting more milk. Brilliant.
Plus this was very nice cinematography move at 19:26 😉
I thought the shop sign 'Creative Designs for Artful Living' was apt.
Plus one! Brilliant!
This is the best delivery you've ever done. Excellent comic timing.
Same with the visual storytelling. Great edit choices.
We all watch plenty of YT. But then you find someone that does the subject you like, the way no one else does it, does it to perfection, and makes you laugh too. Priceless.
This video really is in a league of its own!
As a late 30 dude invested in high end electric scooter for the same reason of shooting more I feel personally attacked 😂
You’re killing me! Best photography videos on TH-cam. Can’t wait.
'...and I need a little more cream..,", you fooled me with that 'kitchen', sir, great editing
Best transition ever!
Creative Designs for Artful Living might be one of my favorite compositions in this episode! Nicely done!
Am I the only one enjoying that smooth subtle elevator music playing in the background? That man in all about the fine details not only in his images.
I love the Wes Anderson-style presentation to this video. It fits in real well with your symmetrical photos.
Exactly!
Both Nick Carver AND Ben Horne drop films on back to back days - SWEET!
Your best video yet. The edits, the sound, the mix of footage shot from different sources, the storytelling, your humour...It feels like you spent a lot of time on it. It is work that comes from a deliberate, dedicated, and passionate artist. This is the polar opposite of a TH-camr who needs to push out content just to satisfy the algorithm. went to college down there, thanks for the scoot down memory lane
The narration and creative use of shots in this video is your best thus far! Loved watching it 😄👍🏾
In an alternate universe, Nick is a professional stand up comedian.
Well done, Nick. I think I’ll watch it again… for you see, it’s inspirational.
I watched three times.
That cut at 16:34 ... 🤯
As always, fantastic work Nick. 👊
You are so right! It is so easier to NOT take pictures than to take pictures. Enjoy your videos!
The shot reading on the toilet 😂😂😂😂 another great one Nick. I always learn so much. I wish you were a little easier on yourself. But that perfectionism, man, gets such great results.
Great content as always. Thanks!

I know you didn't ask, but it's 13 minutes after sunset for me. This video had me laughing more than usual. Great job!

The photo at 5:35 is just incredible. What a scene.
Great video, Nick. Love the photos. I'm crying/laughing at your "reading in studio scene" @ -1:40 🤣
I agree with what others have said. I’ve been following your channel for years; it’s in my top 3. I think this may be my favorite video you’ve done to date. The editing, framing, and dialogue were so well done. I laughed out loud a few times.

That transition to the 4x5 🤌
Love the wild rollercoaster of Nick’s styling and wardrobe
Man your videos are so peaceful and interesting to watch, I just love how real your process is and how you document it. Id say your work is amongst my all time favourite from a current photographer. Thank you for continuing to take the time and effort to bring us along on your journey.
Oh man, I very much enjoyed this video! The photos, the jokes, the general dialect.
Top shelf Nick Carver right here!!
Absolute GOLD Nick. Have always loved your process and attention to detail, add the scooter and you are at a new level of coolness. Keep it up, and never change.
This was probably your most creative and entertaining On Location video yet! That was a lot of fun to watch. I can't wait for the next one.
One of my favourite “TH-camrs” chuckles and great photography!
This is a very cool and interesting project. I am looking forward to see its continuation. Let alone a zine or even a book.
Amazing!!! Loved watching this live in this premiere format!!
I feel like the cinematography took a massive leap up in this video, no? It was always very good but you're now... geez!
You summed it up, 24:20. Happy New Year and blessings you and your wonderful family.
Your best video..perhaps out of all. Cheeky, satirical, photos are killer, the sound track, use of silence--all just ramp this one to an eleven. Loved the picture reviews! consider yourself the king of frontage road TH-camrs! Perhaps an ignominious title, but hard one! Thank you for this.
masterpiece after masterpiece; the photos, the story, the comedy, the entire video. Well done Nick! and thank you for the inspiration.
Thanks
Thanks to your "Eye Syphilis Billboard" video, I now hate LED's. I notice them everywhere as I'm driving around at night and my hatred grows by the day 😅
Thanks!
This was so supremely well put together and laugh out loud funny that I had to buy you a beer.
Thinking sixty six years is a touch old to be buying a scooter but that's me looking for a new street to explore. Nice one Nick!
I know Nick doesn't tend to read youtube comments but I still comment to make the YT algorithm happier
This is a beautiful masterpiece.
Brilliant The Creative Designs for Artful Living-with that amazing light-clip is primo! One of your best. The subtle humor made it perfect
Could watch for hours. The book will be bought😂 regards from Germany
Best 26 minutes I have had in a long, long time. Thanks ❤
One of your best videos yet. I hope to be driving or walking down Chapman, either here in Fullerton (where I live) or in Orange, and see you scooting around so I can say hi.
The 13 minute shot wins, for me. You lose the panels of the roof, to the left of the sign, in the 20 minute shot. Love the video, as always!
Sooo entertaining...brill with just the right amount of humour
Can I call you something? I am an Australian, so it is a term of endearment.
You are one lucky Bastard.
OK, lucky and talented, I do have to give you that.
The subject matter that you have available on Chapman Avenue is perfect. And the fact that you have been able to capture it without making it look like cinestill and gas stations 100% does it justice.
I really enjoyed this video and the set that you have shown. Hopefully its still standing 😥
Love the video. Love the humour. Love the art. Great video as always Nick.
Masterclass … in so many areas … Happy New Year, Nick and family!
As the kids say, "Let's gooooooo!"
Another sideways conversation with Nick. It usually makes me smile and did so this time too!
This video is incredible!! It has everything and it does remind me of Dwight or Michael! Love the energy and cinematic experience! Thank you Mr. Carver I needed this today
One of my favorites from you. I think I liked number three the most, but all three compositions were great. Thanks as always for the video.
Nick Carver… more like Nick Carvin’ up the streets! Lovely video mate. Excited to see where this project ends up 😊
I love these photos! I grew up running up and down chapman and they capture the feel of the area so well.
Absolutely nailed the humor in this one, haha!
Sweet new ride. Looks like it’s working as intended haha. Great video, one of your best!
Nick, you're bringing back memories with the start of this video. That McDonald's was the one I ate an uncountable, and sometimes uncomfortable, number of lunches at. I worked within a minute or two walk from there for almost 15 years.
I am forever amazed that you do your own videography for these location shoots. So many balls to juggle!
He must have 3.
Excellent photographs. Very interesting video. Good luck with your Chapman Avenue project. Looking forward to seeing how it develops.
So funny, so beautiful! Thank you, Nick!
MASTERPIECE TH-cam video! Your hard work is seen in every aspect.
The "the office" bit struck me hard in the gut. And the "come back in perfect conditions" cut was a masterpiece transition. ❤
Always loved your video's! I follow because of the photography but the comedic timing on this one, *chefs kiss*.
Listen. I'm always into a Nick Carver video. You haven't missed once IMNHO. This was a pure masterpiece. Got a little Wes Anderson vibes. Got a lot of good Nick Carver vibes, and of course superb photography content. Thank you!
I really love your works, and the way you plan before and explain after! Really inspiring!!
Nice work Nick!
I’m glad you’re back to doing “on location” videos again. These are the ones that I get most out of.
Put me down for a pre-order of the book!
Perfect, insightful, and fun. ....simply outstanding. I learn every time.
Seriously though, one of your best yet.
Top tier storytelling and commentary!
Brilliant video & funny, fabulous delivery , great photography
Ahhh yes!!!!! Really enjoyed this one! Great to see a on location style video again, missed them!
I never send comments to the videos I watch, not sure why. Self conscious I guess. But I've been watching your videos for several years now with growing enjoyment...........but you've surppassed yourself with this one. Great addition to your work.

i really like your photography. but here: you really nailed it with cinematography & storytelling. awesome work!
As ever, another great vid, looking forward to more in the near future :)
Thank you so much Nick for sharing the new video! Let me know if you come to Paris one day! Will be pleasure to meet with you! and beers of course!!
Well this was just great indeed. I think I probably agree with you on the 13 minute option also the shot from the other side is a beauty 👌
The subtle, dry delivery of the thinking man’s sightgags are becoming such a finely-tuned calling card. And the cinematography with the camera across the street on location was next level. (part of me wishes you had also put that frame on film - the lighting in the window was so good). Great video

Everytime I see one of your new videos, it makes me want to take my Chamonix 810 out of the bag. Now I might go take photos of neon street signs.
Definitely go for the 13min one. it just feels amazing and i much prefer the lower contrast and it matches the other chapman ave photo much better in my opinion. fantastic photography as always, nick!
New scoot goofin'
I got that reference
Hugely enjoyable. Thank you.
