eos r50 probably a better buy because the touchscreen flip screen, 4k, autofocus, newer processor, better burst shooting rate, and better video options for $200 USD more. i can understand how the r100 is a good camera for gifting to others if you don't know much about cameras or gifting to someone who is not super passionate about photography or video yet though!

What's all the fuss about the touchscreen. Yea, a very nice feature to have and I kinda don't understand why my recently purchased 2000D doesn't have touchscreen. Yea, an entry level camera it is and my first ever camera. But the 250D was just too expensive for me. Some day I probably buy a camera with touchscreen, but for now the 2000D is still good enough to take some really good photos as soon as I learn how to really master the manual mode. I also now feel that people who are able to buy a good camera with touchsreen are lucky.

What's a great camera that films 4K, I enjoy filming wildlife in the Kruger National Park, sometimes animals are far away so camera needs to give me the option to change lens, for a good price as well.

The Calgary Stampede seems to have completely blown out the sky there. Is that smoke?

We shoot most episodes with our main personal kit for consistency. And, at the time we only had 1 unit of the Canon EOS R100.

The M series is dead, but I'd still rather recommend people to grab a 2nd hand M50 instead of this camera.

😇Thanks for this review. I would actually love to get this camera as a starter for photos, when I'm able. Plus, its video capabilities can supplement what I already do with videos on our channel's show. I have always used point-and-shoot cameras previously, because they were simple and compact - easy to carry in my handbag to go anywhere. However, now that I'm in digital creation - I feel as though I need to step up my photo game with a more professional style camera that is ideal for someone who hasn't used one on this level. I like the compact nature of it and all of the features that you've described. Any of the areas that you aren't so crazy about won't be too much of a hardship for me coming from point-and-shoot cameras. Great content! Thanks for sharing, new friend. L341

I'm interested in stepping up from my cell phone, and this is one of the models I'm interested in. My biggest concern is size - I have relatively large hands and thick fingers, so I don't want to deal with something that's too small to operate comfortably. Anyone else have experience with this?

I've owned around 6 different Canon p&s's over the years and never used a lanyard with any of them. I also have big paws. I never had any issues with them. And this cam has a better grip than the small rectangles I used.

It just puts me off Canon to see a purposefully crippled camera they did this with DSLR's remember the 2000d or 4000d. I would rather buy a second hand or grey import better model of another brand that give you good level of tech features on even the basic models. By the time you've paid for the EF to R converter so you can at least get some cheaper options EF lenses you might as well buy something like an OM or Fuji. Canon have shot themselves in the foot not allowing third party cheaper lenses. Cameras like this are DOA.

Nope, it's a "piece of sh**"-class entry level camera, continuing the "tradition" of the 4000D, which is Canon's most PoS currently selling camera. Of course, the R100 is worlds better than the 4000D, don't get me wrong, but it's still blatantly crippled.
Look at Nikon's Z30 or Sony's ZV-E10 - though they both lack an EVF, which is bad, photography-wise, they are stellar for their price and entry-level class: 4k30 (unlimited for the Sony) with class-leading AF, photography with class-leading AF, 11 fps mech & electronic, touchscreen (Sony's previous implementation, where the menus can't be touched etc.)
This Canon R100 is simply a shameful camera, for those that can be easily fooled by marketing and that don't know how substantial the difference from this to the R50 is.

@@catalin-ap If you don’t like it, then you have option not to buy it. Why get so upset by something you have no interest in buying?Who cares? I see a lot of things out there that are rubbish - to me. So what, I simply don’t buy them. Just because you, personally don’t like something, somebody else might. Obviously Canon wouldn’t have bothered making it if they thought it wouldn’t sell.

The most upsetting thing about this camera is you can't record HEIF images, no HDRPQ, which is a no-cost option that dramatically improves all images and should fully replace JPEG.
Canon is holding back the entire camera industry by removing this feature that should be universal.
