    Hello, I have had your new wrapper for some time now. I just finished a fairly long chevron wrap. After a few passes I found myself resting my hand palmar on the rail. Oh my goodness...game changer. Was so comfortable and effortless. I moved the carriage out of the way as it was not needed and it all feel in place. I'm sure I will find the same tequinique when applying finish. Loving the wrapper. The tension rods do not bounce up and down and thread comes off the spool very smooth a keeps consistent tension. Loving the wrapper. Is also working great with my CRB power wrapper. Thank you for such a great product.

    Just finished a 6 spinnong rod with the new wrapper paired power wrapper. Worked great. Did not use power wrapper at high speeds but does speed up process. First time with both the power wrapper and this wrappe.
    Keeps both hands free to move carriage and pack at same time. Was able to do most guides at a slow steady speed without stopping. Love every thing about new wrapper worth every penny. Used 6 foot conduit. Might be better with 7 foot but my space does not allow 7 foot. May change that up. Track systems for other brands can run hundreds of dollars. 10 foot sticks of conduit very cheap. Great system, props to great design.

      Thank you and I’m glad you are enjoying it! The track system is something that I was trying to work around and still make an effective wrapper. I like everything about the track design except the price of the track itself 😂 The conduit keeps everything aligned without the added expense. I’m glad you see the benefit in it!

    Conduit price is nothing compared to the competion. On my second rod and very satisfied. I really like the steady thread tension. Unlike the CRB wrapper that the tension rod goes up and down like the drag on a bad fishing reel . Your tension stays steady and loaded all the time. Still using it with CRB Pro Gen 2 power head for finish and drying. Wrapping by hand for thread work. Very satisfied. Going to buy another for my grandson for Christmas.

      I’m glad you are still enjoying it! Great hobby to introduce to your grandson. I say keep kids busy with as much as you can. If you can get them into things other than technology related stuff that is good too. Nothing wrong with playing games occasionally but too much of anything isn’t good for them. Kids usually like working with their hands if they find the right hobby.

    Practiced with the wrapper then started a actual build today. Bought 3 10 foot sticks of conduit. Cut all at 6 foot. Started the build with the 4 foot sections on a 6 foot blank. Assembly was as snap. I am using a CRB power wrapper which is also new. So far am loving the wrapper. Great well designed wrapper with or without power head. Will comment again as build continues.

      Thanks for letting me know about it. I was curious as to how it would work out for you with the power wrapper added to the setup. I only sell the extra blank supports and do not sell the EMT rail supports. I checked your order and it shows 2 extra rod blank supports and 1 jig were ordered. I can certainly make you some extra EMT rail supports and sell them to you, but the reason I don’t have them for sale is because by using extra rail supports, the thread carriage travel would be restricted (EMT rail supports block it from sliding past them). They are also not easy to remove. If you want some sort of spacer block made that could be inserted and removed quickly and easily, I could probably make you up something like that. @@jeffsousa6544 yes, I will have some for sale again this week. I made a change to the thread carriage that I will have to make a video about to show people what is different. It really isn’t a major deal, the thread carriage will still look similar and function the same, but I redesigned it so that it can fold up. I’ve had so many requests to start selling to customers in other countries that I just couldn’t ignore, so I needed a folding design for shipping purposes.
      The customer will need a number 2 Phillips screwdriver to remove 2 screws and reinstall them once the thread carriage is unfolded. It is a really simple process, but I didn’t want to start shipping them without giving a detailed explanation on a video first. I’m in the process of printing inventory of the new parts. It will look very similar to the old one, it fits the same way and all the angles are the same, it just requires unfolding and installing 2 screws. Thank you very much for asking about these, and I apologize for the delay, I just want to do things the right way and put the updated information out there for people to see before I started selling the slightly redesigned part.

    Is this rig compatible with most common power wrappers?

    • @TheFishingHobby
      @TheFishingHobby  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is a good question and I appreciate you asking me about it. It is actually a little tough for me to answer believe it or not. If you NEED a power wrapper…my suggestion would be to for you to buy a power wrapper. That is what they are designed to be. With that being said, I did indeed build this hand wrapper in such a way that a person who has a preference for hand wrapping but on occasion would like to be able to wrap using a motor of some sort, it would be possible. That is probably about as clear as mud haha! If you read through the comments of this video you will find a gentleman who is using the power head from a power wrapper with my jig. I designed my jig to be at a similar height. You may have to raise or lower a power wrapper motor/spindle unit a bit for the best alignment, but mine should be pretty close to matching up well. I also plan on eventually adding a component that will be able to be purchased separately for wrapping and epoxy work at approximately 200 rpm’s. I have a dryer motor/chuck setup coming out this week for drying. I have more ideas for other accessories as well and will be working on those in the future. If someone wants to wrap under power, I suggest keeping the rpm’s in the 200-300 range. Sewing machine motors can spin too fast. Most power wrapper motors are sewing machine motors but their speeds are reduced using pulleys. Some inexpensive power wrappers turn without pulley speed reduction, that is not recommended for use with my jigs. If you want to run a power wrapper setup with some pulley speed reduction and a foot pedal so you can dial the speeds back a bit, that will work just fine. How you mount that setup to mine is something a person would have to figure out for themselves. I hope that long winded comment was more helpful than confusing haha! If not, ask more questions and I will try again!

  • @ArthriticAngler
    @ArthriticAngler ปีที่แล้ว

    Well though out, think I will be ordering one. Question, is the plastic slippery enough for power wrapping? And would a wider portion on the thread carriage help it slide easier? Are additional supports on the store?

    • @TheFishingHobby
      @TheFishingHobby  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Additional supports are available 5286af.myshopify.com/?_ab=0&_fd=0&_sc=1
      Power wrapping would be fine at low speeds (200-300 rpm’s). High speeds could possibly generate enough heat to melt the plastic. I have used these with a 250 rpm dc gear motor with no issues at all. I tried wider bushings on the carriage with similar results while I was working on the design. EMT conduit isn’t precise, so the bushings have to be a little loose fitting or they would bind up. The loose fit allows a little rocking from side to side which can also cause binding unless you push the carriage near the rail. I rarely wrap using a motor, but I always like having that option. 99% of the time I wrap by hand. I will be having a motor setup available for this jig in the future with epoxy work and occasional power wrapping in mind. A setup for someone who mostly prefers to wrap by hand but uses a motor mostly for epoxy work and on rare occasions will wrap with a motor. If you mostly wrap using a motor, I would definitely recommend buying a power wrapper instead.
      I hope that helps you out with your questions. If you have any more, please let me know and I’ll be happy to help!

      I have got it now, had it a couple of weeks. It's brilliant. For 40 years I have whipped rings (you call them guides) by hand (and you need 3 hands to do that!). In comparison, a ring goes on instantly. I am so pleased my friend brought it back to the UK for me. Now I am getting very proficient, very quickly, at more complex whippings.
      Mine is unbroken, but if it's an early one, should I look at strengthening part of it, and if so, how?
      I bought 3 X 71cm lengths of Stainless Steel and find it ideal. When I make some space I will get 1.8 meter lengths, but to be honest I am managing fine with 71cm. Sometimes I have to turn a Rod around to work on the other end and occasionally I need to support a heavier butt, but that's easy enough.
      I'm not ambidextrous, but I find I can use this left or right handed.
      I was surprised and delighted that I can use metallic thread and the foil doesn't strip off or even get scarred.
      What a wonderful piece of kit, many thanks. @@TheFishingHobby

    Just one question, if you are using this jig to apply epoxy, how do you keep the rod level horizontally or do you not use this jig to apply epoxy?

    • @TheFishingHobby
      @TheFishingHobby  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That is a really good question! I'll do my best to provide a thorough answer, so I apologize in advance for the length of my response.
      I do not use adjustable supports when working with epoxy. Surprisingly, the rod doesn't actually need to be perfectly level horizontally for the epoxy to self-level as it should. You can watch this video (th-cam.com/video/XIaNQvAQr6g/w-d-xo.html) to see an example of epoxy work I've done using non-adjustable blank supports.
      Some individuals might encounter issues when they use a non-adjustable support under the rod grips instead of directly under the rod blank while applying epoxy. This could create a more extreme angle. I've personally used this method with excellent results, but it's crucial to apply very thin coats. Here's why: epoxy has adhesive properties that give it a certain tackiness. When applied thinly or the excess is removed, it tends to adhere to surfaces. However, using too much epoxy can result in gravity pulling it to the lower side due to the increased mass. Gravity's effect on the added mass causes the epoxy to pool on the lower side, overpowering its natural tendency to cling to the surface and resulting in an uneven finish.
      A similar effect that most people can relate to is seen in water droplets. Small water droplets can cling to vertical surfaces due to their surface tension; we see it all the time. If the water droplets are too large (have too much mass), gravity overcomes the water's surface tension and its natural tendency to cling to surfaces, causing the water droplet to run down the surface.
      This topic is a common discussion on rod-building message boards, and I'm considering making a video dedicated to this subject.
      Thank you for asking such an insightful question. I'll pin your question at the top of the comments so that others can benefit from it. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask - I'll be more than happy to help.

    Do you ever find that the hold down bands are marking up the blank after many rotations?

    • @TheFishingHobby
      @TheFishingHobby  ปีที่แล้ว

      I do not. It is VERY important to keep the bands clean though! If dirt or sand get in the bands, then the dirt or sand could most definitely mark up or even damage a blank. I’ve seen that happen on a power wrapper as well. A small bit of metal shavings got embedded into a rubber o-ring on a power wrapper wheel and scratched up a blank pretty bad. It can happen but isn’t likely to happen if you are being careful and working in a fairly clean environment. I would say that getting contaminants in one of my bands would be more likely than getting something embedded in a wheel on a power wrapper though. Just inspecting the bands before using them should prevent that from being a problem. Also, my bands are just metal free hair bands. Easy and inexpensive to replace from an item that can be found in most any grocery store or another type of store that carries hair bands (Walmart, Target or similar stores). Never hurts to have extras on hand just in case you need them!

      @@Warrior___ Thank you for your patience, understanding, your willingness to work with me and for allowing me to address the problem and send you a revised part. I just wanted to add a comment here so other people can read it in case they were curious as to what the situation was. I had 3 units break in shipping all in the same area very early on in the production of these jigs. All 3 were broken in the exact same area and they all were broken in shipping. There was a clear need for reinforcement of a part. I revised the part and sent replacement units to the customers at no charge. All of the revised parts I sent out arrived as they should be and the revised part added strength where it was needed. While it is unfortunate that I didn't realize this would be a problem BEFORE I shipped a few units out, the problem was addressed and all units I have shipped since then have arrived without issue to the customers. All of the jigs that ship come with the redesigned part now and only the first few that I sold had the original part design. There isn't much of a visual difference between what is on the video and the jigs that I ship now. A part was extended a few millimeters on each end to add additional support to two small areas, otherwise they look identical. I ALWAYS want and need to know if something goes wrong and I will always make my best attempt to resolve the problem in a way that is satisfactory for the customer. Customers can always send me an email here should they need to contact me for any reason: thefishinghobby@gmail.com

    If you change your mind about selling abroad, I'll buy one immediately!

      Thanks for posting this comment, it helps me gage interest and will be taken into consideration. One possible way I could do that would be to sell some at a marked up price (to cover the fees to sellers) on eBay because they will handle the customs paperwork and shipping logistics if I chose to ship internationally through them. If the jigs cost 15% more plus the eBay international shipping charges on top of that, I worry that would be a deterrent for buyers.

      I'd be happy to pay the mark up. Be much happier giving you my money than paying some multinational for their Chinese built stuff.

    I should have my a$$ kicked. I just dropped $200 on the Mudhole package and i'm still not completely satisfied with it. I absolutely love your new setup. I do have a question. Can you use PVC instead of Conduit? I'm only asking just for weight reason's. But, maybe the added weight of Conduit might help the jig from moving so easily. Anyway. What an absolutely fantastic new system you've made. Not to mention a really good price point. Well done my friend.

      Hello and thank you! PVC pipe is a different diameter and will not fit. I would think schedule 40 PVC pipe would also flex too much. I just went and weighed a 7 foot long piece of EMT that I use on my wrapper and it weighed 2lbs 1-1/2oz so if you had 3 pieces the total weight of the conduit would be 6lbs 4-1/2oz. My total shipping weight (box and all) for my wrapper kit is 2.5 lbs so a 7 foot long hand wrapping jig would be somewhere around 9 lbs which isn't too bad at all in my opinion. You might figure around 1&1/4 lb per foot of hand wrapper length based on that information. I just figured I would put some numbers here in case anyone else was wondering about the weight of the EMT conduit.
