    Love that dry Dutch sense of humour! The roof beam changes and opening up spaces etc are very similar / familiar to what we did to our 50's house 20 years ago. There's a lot of satisfying DIY you can do. For example my wife was project manager and did all the GIB, GIB stopping, cornices and painting. I think I helped a bit here and there. Nothing like pulling down ceilings with rat poo raining down on you :).

    Hello Scott and Jess (Scott Brown Carpentry) from Sydney Australia.
    Community gardening competitions- dynamic lift😂
    Your garden is giving a vibrant show of color. Seed saving in airtight labeled bags is a great way to continue "harty performers" for next season. Let's not forget to rotate beds for pest and nutritional value.

    I hate to disagree with my favorite new zealander (and of course my favorite Dutch carpenter), but when I remodel I find my self going through a whole lot of drudgery to get to the rewarding part. I love these videos, this is where you can make or break a job. I pick up loads...this is the part that gets magically taken care of in all the “reality” shows on American television.

    I loved the fact that Ray knows the measurements of his body parts, that's ingenious. And when you were talking about being 17 in 2004 when you started in the business, it reminded me how old I am being 15 when I started in 1969!! About doing the crappy jobs. I was a site manager for many years. Mostly contract work ranging from 3 months to 18 months at a time. Quite often there were gaps before I started a new contract. In those gaps I would do agency work, working as a labourer on building sites. It was good fun and gave me appretiation for the various trades working on site.

      I do the same thing, I know the joints in my fingers are about an inch, my arm spread apart finger tip to finger tip is 6' and my foot is about a foot. I am Canadian born Mennonite, and yes I am tall for a girl and am also the handywoman of the house.

    • @brucelee3388
      @brucelee3388 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Fistmele, cubit, span......all body based 'Biblical' measurements, all existed before the Classical Greeks and Romans, who gave us the inch and foot (Julius & Augustus standardized them) and by Medieval times - pole, perch, rod, fathom, barleycorn..........pre-metric in Australia we had to learn them all. Interestingly places in Europe like Austria still use inches (zoll) for things like carpentry rather than metric measurements.

    Easy way of removing that @#&* panelling is to relevel the floor, just make sure you warn Jess beforehand. Putting new posts under an old farm house many years ago and as we jacked and levelled the house we could hear all these 'bangs'. Wasn't until the end of the day when we walked into the room we'd been working on that we found the source (we had looked before, it just wasn't obvious) the panelling had popped of the walls. The glue had given way and the brads had pulled through the sheeting.

    Your videos are way too short. Best content on TH-cam

    That back garden looks so lovely with the blooming flowers etc, yet the new deck built facing the front street. I know its close to the kitchen but ????? I've watched every video by Scott and my carpenter son in Alice Springs, now watches him and he agrees with me re the deck. Sorry to be so negative , I know comments are usually positive.

    I like the additional voice over work in this video. (Don't know if you've been doing it a long time but only just noticed 😅) keep it up
