Politicians tend to have their own interest (and those of their benefactors) in mind, so hearing people openly voicing their dislike for others of different political leanings is a bit tiresome. Luckily, the local wildlife don't seem to be that involved in said nonsense. Very much looking forward to the snow, as it's a seldom occurrence where I'm from.

Yes, December 2021 windstorm blew half of my neighbor's roof off their house, about 45 minutes south of Colorado Springs! I do not mean shingles. It landed upside down in their back yard. Crazy!

This place is really frustrating. The drivers are terrible, there are no freeways for getting around, and the streets are a confusing maze that lead nowhere. The food is disappointing, and there’s no worthwhile nightlife or entertainment. I can’t wait to move to Las Vegas.
I don't know if anywhere in Colorado is comfortable without air conditioning. While summitting some 14ers I've stayed in Leadvillie , Georgetown and Fairplay. Even in those places I only get a hotel with those heating/cooling wall units. A few other things I think are worth mentioning to people coming from the lower elevations is #1 The sun at 6,000ft is much different than at 1,000 feet. It will fade your car paint and burn your skin quick. wear a hat and sun screen. #2 If you're near a creek or stream in town and you can see it raining up on the mountain get the heck away from the water ways. that water is going to come down in a hurry. Look on TH-cam for some Manitou Springs flash flooding. #3 If you have always dreamed of having a mountain view out your front door research prices before making the move. $450,000 will get you a lot more house in places like Des moines or Omaha than it will get you in a picturesque mountain town.
Great info. I'm laid back on SSI/DI & just left Texas for Colorado Springs. We got into a great area. Reason for moving? Hurricane Beryl Hit us hard. We sold everything & moved up here to be closer to our youngest Son. Our 3br 2bth mobile home back home in TX was a $25k home but appraised at $150k!!! Not! I love the people up here around Cheyenne Canyon. Everyone is so nice, gas is high dollar! $1.75 cheaper back in SE TX.

Yes, I agree --- liberal Denver (and Boulder), but I'm not giving up of CO just YET! Besides, my favorite CO city is Colorado Springs, as it leans conservative/Republican. And being a veteran (twice) I like the 5 military bases they have there and all the active-duty/retirees/veterans -- I feel more @ home (if you will). AND I like the commissaries on occasion, too, ESPECIALLY the "cute" (?) little Air Force Academy base commissary! ;--) -- BR
Family ties can be a powerful reason to move. Our family was pretty upset when we decided to move here. They have adjusted now and they look forward to visiting us and enjoying this state together. For us, we _really_ wanted the outdoor lifestyle that Colorado Springs offers and I really enjoy skiing. There is no place to ski back home (SE Alabama) and the closest place worth considering has a short, questionable season (West Virginia). Yes, I know NC is closer but I don't like skiing on ice. I figured we will be here at least 10 years, perhaps longer. My kids love it here and the schools are better than other places I have lived. You can't escape taxes - but depending on your situation - some states are better than others. Colorado's 4.10% income tax isn't too bad - slightly below average. Texas has the highest property tax, while Colorado is third lowest. Overall, Colorado have a slightly below average tax burden (property tax, income tax, sales tax and other factors) - really good among blue states and even beating out some red states. Yes, states like Texas and Florida don't have a personal income tax, but you often pay in other ways. AC is legit. The problem is that a lot of builders, if they offer AC, under provision. If you have a 3000+ s/f home - you need a 5 ton unit. Also, get dual zone if you have more than one story. My upstairs is legit 10-degrees (F) higher than my main level or basement. I never had that problem in Orlando. I may consider getting a mini-split just for the upstairs at some point - just stupid to even have to consider that. Go figure. Anyway, I have enjoyed your content, so you will be missed. Enjoy your new live back in Texas. If Texas had skiable mountains, I would consider it.

Moved from Colorado Springs after 6 years to Florida and I will say... The food selection and how it is cooked with flavor in Colorado springs is TOP TIER! I've been forced to cook instead of go out on weekends, Orlando and The Keys is an exception. ( Haven't been to the gulf side of Florida)
I have really struggled to find a decent Mexican place - which is one of my favorite kinds of foods. Looking for something beyond typical Tex-Mex chains, which have reliable but average food. I have found some decent taquerias in Denver - the kind of place you _need_ to speak Spanish to order. Those are the best. I had a few places in Orlando we really loved but nothing like that in Colorado Springs so far. I welcome any suggestions.

I've lived in Colorado 33 years. Wind would never be on my list of things to complain about in Colorado. I sometimes think about moving somewhere with more temperate weather and they are either much more expensive (California, Washington, Oregon, etc.) or crazy conservative (Florida, anywhere in the south, etc.) I hate the fact we have homelessness/drug issues now (CO grew so fast the state could not keep up), but other than that, CO is pretty great. Also, our home has evaporative cooling (swamp cooler) which is awesome. Requires less electricity than air conditioning and humidifies the house during our hot, dry summers. Love it.
I've actually has more problems with low humidity in the winter. Summer isn't nearly as bad. We had our builder put in a humidifier but I think it is junk. I real system like you have would be another $3k - which we will eventually do. Wind is a legit concern - especially if you come here from the east. Back east we have trees that do a decent job of blocking the wind. I lost my grill to wind damage when it was blown across the neighborhood. Honestly, I have only seen that kind of wind during hurricanes back in Florida. Either way, still love it here. No place is perfect.

My thoughts about Colorado/Colorado Springs: Too much traffic here because of tourism. Lots of pot holes on the roads and lots of construction going on all of the time. It seems like a lot of people are moving here and the infrastructure is not able to support it anymore. There are also no good paying jobs for the most part since Colorado Springs did nothing to keep the high tech companies that were here when they were here and we do nothing to try and attract companies here who could bring in good paying jobs as they give all of the money to the olympic training center due to this place wanting to cater towards tourism only as a main source of income. Government jobs here that hire a lot of military people also require that you already have a high level security clearances. Lots of minimum wage jobs here that most donot want. cost of living here is very high and it keeps going up like everywhere else. rental property, property taxes, homes buying, home owners insurance, auto insurance or renting are high for what you get and apartments monthly rent is very high just like everywhere else. we have tornado's here, hail, flash flooding, cold weather and snow and the climate here is dry, not humid and we have fires here. we get a lot of wind in general since we are so close to the mountains. In 2023 The colorado Sun said that we hosted 93.3 million visitors in 2023. which explains the conditions of our roads. And guess what; since there is no tourism tax. The people that live in colorado pay for the wear and tear of the roads cause by those 93.3 million visitors in 2023 through taxes. A lot of bad drivers here since a lot of people come here from someone else and they have their own version of driving and a lot of road rage. That’s because CO voters got rid of the Gallagher amendment. CO voters got rid of their residential property tax protections by voting YES on Amendment B.
Still upper 90’s in Austin in October. It barely cools down at night. Concrete too hot to walk your dogs most of the day without booties. Crime is out of control. Homeless druggies marauding like zombies and stealing your mail and everything not nailed down outside. Factor in the cost of running your whole house AC for at least 9 months a year. Heat, humidity, mold, and other allergens are brutal. Nearly the whole state is miserable, and it takes a day to get out of the state from central Texas. Air quality sucks compared to the Springs. Housing and property taxes are ridiculous. I get it though…family is what brought me back and kept me here, but I’m out as soon as can be!
Lived in the Denver area for a couple years and hated everything about it. Horrible city. CO Springs is a little better IMO (less traffic, closer to mountains).
I always enjoy visiting Denver, but I'm glad I don't live there. We looked at several communities throughout the Front Range and settled on Colorado Springs. We were ready to give up until we went over Monument Hill in I-25 heading south - with that entire valley with the Springs and Pikes Peak in view. Traffic is relative. I used to live in Atlanta 20 years ago - and it was a complete mess even back then. Going 10 miles would take over an hour. And heaven help you if someone learned a physics lesson (crash) or there was an ice storm. I'm enjoying the Springs so far, but I understand it isn't for everyone. If I were a homebody, I might as well live in Kansas or Texas.
I only went to Denver (made a "day-trip" out of it) when I had a VA Clinic/doctor's app't and HAD to go there (back when the VA was in Denver on 9th St, before they opened the new VA facility in Aurora). Afterwards, went straight to the Ken Caryl Ranch area (nice) to do some things, then back to Colorado Springs not via I-25, but "the back way" via Hwy 105 to Monument...a nice leisurely & very scenic drive...and minding any alpacas or llamas on the road. ;-) So yeah, I had no interest in anything Denver, mainly due to its politics and nowadays, homeless issues, crime, trash, etc...typical Blue City stuff. No thanks. -- BR
in CO, every county has been fracked, except Boulder County. Caveats: Morgan Co. had a Ur and Cd radioisotope water contamination in early 2024... poor new coverage... be careful
Nearly. Cat 1 Hurricane is 75 mph. I went through several in Florida. I think we had winds in the 50 mph with gusts up to 70 mph one weekend last winter here in the Springs.

My property taxes went up 38% in one year. How is the H#!! is that okay? And home insurance!!! Holly $7!t!! Why is the state not involved a setting a maximum at to the amount these can be increased per year. UNBELIEVABLE! Not to mention the streets and how they are bring down the value of our neighborhoods and homes.Overall, the city is unsightly and needs a major beautification project.Yes, hiking, but again pretty unsightly. Government jobs here that hire a lot of military people also require that you already have a high level security clearances. Lots of minimum wage jobs here that most donot want. cost of living here is very high and it keeps going up like everywhere else. rental property, property taxes, homes buying, home owners insurance, auto insurance or renting are high for what you get and apartments monthly rent is very high just like everywhere else. we have tornado's here, hail, flash flooding, cold weather and snow and the climate here is dry, not humid and we have fires here. we get a lot of wind in general since we are so close to the mountains. In 2023 The colorado Sun said that we hosted 93.3 million visitors in 2023. which explains the conditions of our roads. And guess what; since there is no tourism tax. The people that live in colorado pay for the wear and tear of the roads cause by those 93.3 million visitors in 2023 through taxes.
A lot of bad drivers here since a lot of people come here from someone else and they have their own version of driving and a lot of road rage. A lot of road traffic delays during certains time of the day everyday.

Actually, my property tax went sky-high. Colorado does not have low property tax, and you don't seem to get jack for your money.

Still upper 90’s in Austin in October. It barely cools down at night. Concrete too hot to walk your dogs most of the day without booties. Crime is out of control. Homeless druggies marauding like zombies and stealing your mail and everything not nailed down outside. Factor in the cost of running your whole house AC for at least 9 months a year. Heat, humidity, mold, and other allergens are brutal. Nearly the whole state is miserable, and it takes a day to get out of the state from central Texas. Air quality sucks compared to the Springs. Housing and property taxes are ridiculous. I get it though…family is what brought me back and kept me here, but I’m out as soon as can be!

Lived in the Denver area for a couple years and hated everything about it. Horrible city. CO Springs is a little better IMO (less traffic, closer to mountains).
I always enjoy visiting Denver, but I'm glad I don't live there. We looked at several communities throughout the Front Range and settled on Colorado Springs. We were ready to give up until we went over Monument Hill in I-25 heading south - with that entire valley with the Springs and Pikes Peak in view.
Traffic is relative. I used to live in Atlanta 20 years ago - and it was a complete mess even back then. Going 10 miles would take over an hour. And heaven help you if someone learned a physics lesson (crash) or there was an ice storm.
I'm enjoying the Springs so far, but I understand it isn't for everyone. If I were a homebody, I might as well live in Kansas or Texas.
I only went to Denver (made a "day-trip" out of it) when I had a VA Clinic/doctor's app't and HAD to go there (back when the VA was in Denver on 9th St, before they opened the new VA facility in Aurora). Afterwards, went straight to the Ken Caryl Ranch area (nice) to do some things, then back to Colorado Springs not via I-25, but "the back way" via Hwy 105 to Monument...a nice leisurely & very scenic drive...and minding any alpacas or llamas on the road. ;-)
So yeah, I had no interest in anything Denver, mainly due to its politics and nowadays, homeless issues, crime, trash, etc...typical Blue City stuff. No thanks.

in CO, every county has been fracked, except Boulder County. Caveats: Morgan Co. had a Ur and Cd radioisotope water contamination in early 2024... poor new coverage... be careful

Nearly. Cat 1 Hurricane is 75 mph. I went through several in Florida. I think we had winds in the 50 mph with gusts up to 70 mph one weekend last winter here in the Springs.
@@JasonTaylor-po5xc CO is windy in general, especially the spring time when the snow is melting. From FL and man these winds were considered just about hurricane lol. I love this state. There's a lot to hate on for sure. But overall I am happy here.

My property taxes went up 38% in one year. How is the H#!! is that okay? And home insurance!!! Holly $7!t!! Why is the state not involved a setting a maximum at to the amount these can be increased per year. UNBELIEVABLE! Not to mention the streets and how they are bring down the value of our neighborhoods and homes.Overall, the city is unsightly and needs a major beautification project.Yes, hiking, but again pretty unsightly. And can we talk about the bears, snakes and mountain lions. No thank you! The weather is the absolute worst and is 100% unreliable.

I'm a 52 YO post-menopausal woman with occasional hot flashes. I disagree. Having A/C is a must! I don't have working A/C in my vehicle right now. I completely melt on my 10 min drive to work every day. 🥵
