-Our Intro Song "Feel the Love" From Alex's band
open.spotify.com/album/4Dao8y... - ภาพยนตร์และแอนิเมชัน
The backstory behind Ham’s and Evan’s suicides is so much worse than being sad they didn’t sell records. They were preyed upon unmercifully without a clear path to break loose from the vultures. A truly tragic story.
Is there a bio on the band?
@@tracycampbell3060 There's a doc on them on YT called Without You. It's in three parts.
I think they were in a situation where there was a dispute with their record company and basically they were not allowed to record or perform as Badfinger for years
@@tracycampbell3060a couple documentaries. One or two on TH-cam
@@tracycampbell3060 Yes, of course there's a bio on the band. Just google "Badfinger"... you'll find all kinds of information about the band.
Fit beautifully for the Breaking Bad finale song. Choosing his "baby blue" over family, friends, everything, for the love of power and money. Great song!
I thought this was an amazing fit for the season finale. Just topped everything off perfectly!
I had a feeling someone would beat me to the point, the use of this in the "Breaking Bad" finale was impeccable.
Every time I hear this, I get sad about that show ending.
i can't hear this song any more without thinking of the Breaking Bad finale. so perfect in every way.
Absolute perfection.
"Day After Day", "No Matter What" and "Come And Get It" are also great ones by then
True. But their whole catalog is great. Lots and lots of terrific deep cuts by this band.
I would even say those songs are all better than Baby Blue.
hey batman nice to see you here. Save America 2024
"Come and Get It" written by Paul McCartney and 'Day After Day" produced by George Harrison. Badfinger was mentored by the Beatles from the beginning.
This was the last song in the show breaking bad. RIP WALTER WHITE.😎
"Day After Day" is one of the greatest songs of the 1970's.
Love everything Badfinger. Such a tragic loss of Pete Ham due to being financially screwed by management. Tom Evans also died in 1983 by suicide. Mike Gibbins died from a brain aneurysm in 2005. So tragic. Baby Blue, Come and Get It, No matter What and Day After Day are songs from my youth. Who couldn’t love a band named Badfinger?
S tier. You need to watch a documentary on Badfinger and do an update. Saddest story in rock but they were a very talented band and need more respect.
I so agree, thank you
No Matter What is got me hooked on this band! The definition of ear candy, catchy melody, Intricate guitar parts and gorgeous harmony. Like if you agree!!
Best power pop song ever, if you ask me, edging out "Go All the Way" by the Raspberries, "September Gurls" by Big Star, and "Couldn't I Just Tell You" by Todd Rundgren.
@gregsager2062 As a power pop lover, I agree with all those you mentioned. Let me add another favorite of mine: a perfect blend of power pop and rockabilly..."I'm on Fire" by the Dwight Twilley Band, whichever reached number 16 on the Billboard Top 100 in 1975. Check it out if you don't know it and are interested.
@@karenduell1027 The Dwight Twilley Band album on which "I'm on Fire" appears, *Sincerely* , is one of my five favorite albums of all time. "I'm on Fire", great though it is, isn't even the best song on the album. If you don't already own *Sincerely* , get a copy of it. It's a bona-fide masterpiece.
@@gregsager2062 About a year ago I purchased a CD from Amazon that's a combo of "Sincerely" and "Twilley Don't Mind." I have a playlist here on yt for Dwight Twilley with over 50 songs, he's a prolific songwriter. "I'm on Fire" is my favorite by him, actually it's my favorite song from 1975, reminds me of my sophomore year in high school. So, what's your favorite song from "Sincerely"? Other favorites of mine on that CD are "You Were So Warm", "England" and "Just Like the Sun." Another favorite of mine, from the "Twilley Don't Mind" album is "That I Remember", which his good friend Tom Petty backs him on, and you can really hear the Petty influence in the song. Sorry for the rambling comment, but I'm a huge Twilley fan!
Truly brilliant
Badfinger is a band that came from my hometown in Swansea, Wales, which is an honour I carry with me. Their story is one of the most genuinely tragic I’ve ever read in music history. One of the best of their generation, without a doubt. Lyrically, musically, they were spot fucking on at every turn.
Right on!
You know that the word Swansea comes from the Norse "Sven sey" ... Meaning Sven's island. Simply because a Viking spent one night with his army there on the way to England
The English establishment always uses non Welsh names in Wales as official names.... Because it can't stand actually using the much deeper older Welsh names lol
Thanks for sharing your story.
Wales gave us some fabulous entertainers. I only know a few. Bad Finger, Tom Jones, Shirley Bassey, Richard Burton and the lovely Catherine Zeta-Jones.
The story of Badfinger is the saddest story from the music industry. They were treated incredibly badly.
Yes Them and The New York Dolls !
Great Music, Heartbreaking Story
RIP Pete, Tom, Michael
This was one of the best songs to come out in the early 70's. A great band and tragic story. Such a huge loss for the world.
When Badfinger was trending, there was a lot of talk about them actually being the Beatles playing under a different name. The fact that Badfinger was on Apple Records only added fuel to the fire. This was a great band selling around 14 million albums. The Beatles loved this band and did what they could to promote them. An original vinyl of their album Straight Up in good condition will still cost about $300.00. I loved this band.
For a long time their stuff hadn't come out on CD, so the old vinyl was the only way to get it, and any copy in any condition was expensive.
When this was played in the finale of Breaking Bad I got goose bumps.
me too
Got this one wrong gentlemen. Classic tune from a great band way back in the day. Early 70's S-Tier Banger.
Used perfectly as the last song on the last episode of "Breaking Bad". Amazing song.
One of my favorite songs of ALL-TIME!!!
Same!
Fun facts:
Badfinger originally recorded the song" Without You", written by group members Pete Ham and Tom Evans; although Nilsson has the most famous version.
This group was formed in 1961, originally called The Iveys and signed with The Beatles' Apple Records in 1968. The next year they changed their name to Badfinger.
This group was discovered by Beatles "roadie" Mal Evans.
The groups "Beatles-esque" sound is because Paul McCartney and George Harrison and produced two of their biggest hits "Come And Get It", also written by McCartney, and "Day After Day", respectively. George also plays slide guitar on the latter.
Leon Russell only played 1 take on Day After Day, during the recording. Talk about perfection! One of the finest piano players ever.
Clarification: If Wiki is correct, Ham wrote "Day After Day." Harrison played slide guitar and tag-teamed with Todd Rundgren to produce it, but Harrison did not write that song.
Not only did Badfinger originally record "Without You", Badfinger members Pete Ham and Tom Evans *wrote* the song.
I can no longer hear this song without thinking of the show Breaking Bad. Anything that can shift the river of memory into a new course after 40 years is a helluva good show!
Spoiler alert if you have not watched Breaking Bad:
th-cam.com/video/spnE1xRRamw/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=Infinitas
@@quinn-tessential3232 That is correct. Pete Ham wrote "Day After Day". He and Harrison both played slide guitar on the song, while legendary pianist Leon Russell tickled the ivories. Harrison produced the song but left the recording unfinished; Harrison basically abandoned Badfinger in midstream while they were recording *Straight Up* (the 1971 album on which "Baby Blue" and "Day After Day" appear) in order to pursue his Concert for Bangladesh project. (Badfinger backed up Harrison in that famous concert, as they had done on Harrison's *All Things Must Pass* album, and Ham duetted with Harrison on an acoustic guitar version of "Here Comes the Sun" in the concert.) Since Harrison was too busy trying to get the film and soundtrack album for the Concert for Bangladesh together to finish producing *Straight Up*, Todd Rundgren came in and finished producing the album (and Todd claims to have tweaked "Day After Day" in the process).
This song will now forever remind me of one of the best shows ever created Breaking Bad
And when this song came on, at that "end", I cried like a baby. What a show and what a finale with the perfect song.
Great ending scene! The bloody hand on the stainless tank, slips away...
_Just one more thing before I go..._
Indeed it does...
"Guess I got what I deserved" is not only the first line of "Baby Blue", it was the line that should've been Walter White's epitaph.
It truly was the most fitting and perfect song to accompany "the end", for multiple reasons. When the opening chords began, I got chills at how perfect the choice was, and immediately felt bad for anyone watching who hadn't heard the song before, bc the moment could not have been the same for them!
Day after Day is a bittersweet song - 🎶 looking out of my lonely room... 🎶
❤❤❤
"bring it home baby, make it soon..."
George Harrison played the slide guitar portions on their hit "Day After Day"... definitely worth a listen.
Pete Ham along with George played the slide parts
"Day After Day" is one of their top tunes and the one that many people will think of automatically when you say the name "Badfinger".
Yes, they did sound a lot like The Beatles. Two other Beatles connections are that Paul McCartney wrote and produced their 1st big hit, "Come and Get It", and George Harrison produced and played guitar on the song that I recommend for your next Badfinger song, "Day After Day". Other trivia: Badfinger wrote and did the original version of "Without You", a song that you know from Nilsson's version. It's on the same album as "No Matter What", which I would be glad to see appear on this channel. If you want to hear another Beatlesque power pop song by a band similar to Badfinger, try "Go All the Way" by The Raspberries.
I've wanted them to do this one and the Raspberries song for so long now. One down, and one to go!
TBH, I was today years old when I found out "Day After Day" wasn't Clapton in a transition period.
Even more Beatles connections. They provided at least one song for a Ringo Starr/Raquel Welch movie. "The Magic Christian" not remembering which song.. might be "No Matter what you want"..
You two, today especially, remind me of vastly younger versions of my best friend and I, from the days of component stereos and who had the lightest tracking tone arm, through today. We're room mates in college and now live within a half-hour of each other. Of the two, I guess I would be the Andy..though I can't play a note. I majored in broadcast production and had my own shows. And I got to program new music and run the record (Nirvana!!) Library!
When my friend had a real to real tape recorder, he would play "the first note game" with me. Have a song cued up on the recorder, turn it on and off and I would have to guess. I was right about 70% of the time. Ha!
@@daviddragavon7555 It was "Come and Get It", written by Paul McCartney, and they released an album called "Magic Christian Music" that included three songs from the movie. The song "No Matter What" came out on their album "No Dice" a year later.
Day After Day is a great song.
This was me and my father's favorite song, and since he passed away more than three years ago, I listen to it every single day.
Next is their terrific melodic 1971 hit, "Day After Day." You also loved Harry Nilsson's cover of their ballad, "Without You." Remarkably, they were oldtimers, who formed way back in 1961, before the Beatles revolution. Evidently they were called The Iveys during that whole Beatles decade.
As a child of the 60's this was a song I grew up with. It has a lot of Beatles influence in it. Loved it then but when they used it in the finale of my fav show Breaking Bad it fit so perfect I cried a little.
Finally you get to this one! Don’t let any Beatles influence make you think any less of this masterpiece. Power pop at it’s absolute peak!
My All Time favorite song,perfect.
This was used in the series finale of Breaking Bad - a perfect song for saying goodbye to Walt's beloved blue meth.
I don’t have a problem with any song resembling The Beatles. Fell out of my chair when I heard A-. This song is perfect in so many ways, IMO. Having a tough time remembering what criteria you guys use to qualify a song as an s-tier. Oh well, I guess there’s a rear end for every seat!
Yep, the boys missed it on this one.
In a different universe, this band reached the same heights as the Beatles. They were that good.
One of the best power pop tunes ever recorded. I still get shivers on the last verse. Produced by todd rundgren by the way (more todd guys!!).
And, as would later be the case with XTC, Rundgren got a great sound out of Badfinger and produced a landmark album for them while simultaneously making them hate his guts for being so autocratic in the studio.
Funny thing is joey mollund had ghe harshest criticism of him and the two of them ended up touring together right before the pandemic for the white album snniversary 😁. If i remember correctly the drummer didnt hate him and was amazed how quickly he was able to get a great drum sound. Todd can be a dick (apparently) but in his defense. He was hired to take a project that was taking forever and getting nowhere (first producer was canned with nothing usable to go with, harrison got called away for Bangledesh concert…some usable stuff there), and get it done. Quickly. Mission accomplished
BEST SONG TO CLOSE OUT AN AMAZING TV SERIES... BREAKING BAD !!! BEST FINIALLY EVER !!!
Another reason to be grateful for Vince Gilligan and 'Breaking Bad'. Without that I probably never hear this great song or learn about this great band.
S+ without a second thought.
Absolutely!
Yes!
Baby Blue was produced by Todd Rundgren on the Beatle's Apple label. Paul McCartney had a large influence on the Band's direction.
I don't think it's really accurate to say that Paul McCartney "had a large influence on the band's direction." Paul wrote one song for them to record and co-produced just one of their albums. Beyond that, he didn't really influence the direction the band would take its music. The comparisons of Badfinger to The Beatles gets kind of out-of-hand sometimes. A lot of bands have obviously been influenced by The Beatles to varying degrees... but, if Badfinger had been signed by a different label, I highly doubt that they would have been constantly compared to The Beatles. Just my opinion.
@@LaStarza61 You're not wrong, though Harrison produced 4 of the songs on the album this came from and played slide on "Day After Day."
George Harrison, who also produced part of the *Straight Up* album on which "Baby Blue" appears (and who, notably, played the slide guitar on "Day After Day"), is arguably the Beatle who had the biggest influence on Badfinger. And, not to be outdone, John Lennon is the one who came up with the band's name. He had injured his right index finger at the time that he and McCartney were composing "With a Little Help from My Friends", forcing him to plunk out the verse melody using only his right middle finger, so he and McCartney originally called the song "Bad Finger Boogie". They later gave the name to their proteges, because the band's former name, the Iveys, sounded outdated and was too close to the name of another popular British group called the Ivy League (who are best known today as the backing vocalists on the early Who single "I Can't Explain").
S+ The song is nothing short of an S. Sounding like the Beatles in their case, and in the case of ELO who has also gotten the comparison is not a bad thing. Both bands were fantastic in their own right.
"S" for me also, since it's one of my top 10 favorite songs of all time.
"Day After Day" should be the next Badfinger song on your list for a listen, and I would love to see your reaction to "No Matter What" made available on this channel.
“Day after Day” - same album, but produced by George Harrison- some great unison slide guitar work by George +
Pete Ham
Badfinger was such a great band. Baby Blue and Day After Day are such good tunes.
"Baby Blue", "Come And Get It", "Day After Day" and "No Matter What" are the must listen 4 from Badfinger. The deeper cuts don't come close in my view, but "We're For The Dark" is strong and "Without You" became a standard after later covers.
There last album, Wish You Were Here, is pretty great from start to end. It didn't get a full release which contributed to Pete Ham's death.
We're For The Dark is my favorite song of their's. It's so unique. Another one is Money/Flying. The songs actually blends together and their vocals are awesome!
I'll Be the One is a great one too.
"Just a Chance" off of *Wish You Were Here* is a fantastic song.
This is one of the most iconic songs of the 70’s, and Badfinger had so many great hits! Please keep them coming!
Two members of Badfinger committed suicide. As others have mentioned, it is one of the most tragic stories in rock and roll. It wasn't because they were sad about their records. They were betrayed.
Yes. They were betrayed.
@@kimsullivan5576heard grand funk railroad was screwed too, shame sad
@@60sbaby456 That is very possible. I learned that Mark Farner was so messed up on drugs that he had to leave the band temporarily to sober and clean up. My ex husband had replaced him in the band from late '68-'71. In those years, rehabs were not available. Mark Farner successfully regained his strength and returned to GFR. My ex went on to join Three Dog Night as their lead guitarist. Wasn't the 70's great? What did you hear?
@@kimsullivan5576 the manager producer/ agent took advantage, happens especially to the young just starting out
@@60sbaby456 Unfortunately, that happened often to many bands. Humble Pie was another example.
My $0.02 - this is a Straight Up (heh) S-tier BANGER. One of the best songs of the 70s.
This song has my favorite drum fills. So awesome.
Pure power pop. I wasn’t brought here by a TV show, but rather memories of a childhood summer, AM radio on a greasy garage shelf in a neighboring house, hanging with the older kids got a full contact football game, riding bikes until dark.
Always loved this song, but now I’ll always remember it as the finale for Breaking Bad.
which means they didnt watch that. so they never heard so many great songs and never saw the best television series of all time.
Breaking Badfinger. When I heard those first guitar notes on the show I said "Badfinger!" it was the first time I'd heard it since I was a kid in the 70's, talk about a nostalgic rush. The way that riff walks up and down, and the tone, unmistakable.
Best song placement ever.
@@rickpaul4216agreed 👍
Fits so well in the finale that if I didn't know the song before, I might've thought it was written specifically for the show.
I decided a long time ago that sounding like The Beatles is a great compliment!
this song hit so hard as the finale to "Breaking Bad". It's perfect for it, written decades before the show.
I think of this one as the song played in the final moments of the show breaking bad
IT IS the song to close out the series with a dying Walter White on his back. a fantastic ending and this means they didnt see Breaking Bad Either. LOL

One of my favorite bands ever.
Ditto!
Strong S-one of the best pop songs ever, and helped create perhaps the best TV show series ending ever-Breaking Bad.
YES!!! Badfinger was a great band. Pete Ham was a phenominal songwriter/musician/singer. Tragic story. He would have written the best songs and had a massive solo career after. "Without You" is one of the most covered songs...ever! Besides be scewed out of millions, the label held all of their albums due to not being paid by management. Pete was made of music so to not even have his music out there and be broke with a new home and pregnant girlfriend was way too much. He drank a bottle of wine after drinking all night, left a short note and hung himself. Tom, his friend and bass player (who may have been bipolar) hung himself 8 yrs later. His son found him in a tree.
The saddest story. That last part gets me every time 😢 RIP Pete, Tom, Jerry. Only Joey is left now.
Great song from a band with a tragic history. An AM radio staple that will always be part of my wasted youth.
Somewhere in my top 20 greatest songs ever, hands down.
Closing song in Breaking Bad’s last episode scene
which means not only do they not hear these great songs but they didnt watch the greatest series in television history.
This is one of my top 10 favorite songs of all time, thanks for the reaction guys. Stan Polley, their manager robbed them blind, which led to Pete Ham's and Tom Evans' suicide, Ham even mentioned Polley in his suicide note. Even though their songs were big hits, and always got heavy radio play, they barely had two nickels to rub together. I love Badfinger, and I certainly hope Stan Polley is burning in hell right now for what he did to those guys. 😠
Oh, you know the bastard is, and rightfully so!
Absolutely.
Pete Ham was one of the best songwriters ever, his ability to create melodies is amazing-very sad and tragic story
He was such a humbled and gentle soul, for sure. 😞
Great great song. Tragic story as they both died penniless because of their management stealing everything. Pete Ham and Tommy Evan's who wrote Without You that has been covered by Harry Nielson and Mariah Carey. Pete and Tommy both hung themselves in 1975 and 1983 respectively. RIP. George Harison produced so yes they have a Beatles sound but they were fabulous writers, musicians on their own. Day after Day should be next. They had 4 top 10 songs between 1970-1972 and only made a slight monthly allowance as their management convinced them they were stashing their real money away for their futures. So sad.
I’ am from the 60’s generation and when Bad Finger came ou , yes we thought they sounding like the Beatles but me and my friends we loved them.
Great group, I loved this song so much, it came out when I was in Jr High. Their story is very tragic and I would love to see it made into a movie. They had a large number of hits.
Day After Day, No Matter What, Come and Get It. Badfinger has a lot of bangers.
Love this group. Badfinger were a Welsh rock band from the 60's-80's. They became the first group signed by the Beatles' Apple label. Come & Get It" was written & produced by Paul McCartney & "Day After Day" was produced by George Harrison. They had other hits such as "No Matter What", "Baby Blue" & "Without You" (written by Harry Nilsson). This group had quite a sad history. The band had bad mismanagement & lost most of their money, two members committed suicide & one died of a brain aneurysm.
That's not really accurate. Paul McCartney wrote "Come and Get It" and gave it to Badfinger to record. But that's it... Neither Paul or George (or John or Ringo for that matter) wrote any other songs for them and they never recorded a Beatles song. And Paul McCartney and George Harrison co-produced exactly one album each... that's it. Give the band some credit... There were some great songwriters in the band... especially Pete Ham and Tom Evans. Joey Molland wrote some good songs too. Badfinger was an extremely talented guitar-driven band!
S tier for me regarding just the chord changes alone.
Great Song by a criminally underappreciated band.
Shouldn’t be an issue…that’s who discovered them and they were very talented on their own!
This song has now become synonymous with the finale of Breaking Bad. I can still remember watching Walt White bleeding out and dying while this song played...it was absolutely iconic. A great song and a great series.
spoilers
Finally! Watied a while for some Badfinger reactions! Great song!
I would like to set the record straight about some wrong info spread by people here: there is NO "lead singer" in the group. All 4 members contributed material. Basically, if 1 member wrote a song, they were the ones to sing lead vocals on it. The only exceptional cases were on some of the drummer's (Mike Gibbins's) songs. Also, this song was written by guitarist Pete Ham, who was (usually) their lead guitarist and principal songwriter along with the other guitarist, Joey Molland.
Two of the band members, Ham and the bassist Tom Evans wrote the song "Without You". The Beatles didn't have much to do with Badfinger's music except for Paul writing a song for them ("Come and Get It") and George co-producing and playing guitar on their "Straight Up" album, on which "Baby Blue" is the 2nd track.
One of my favorite bands of all time. The album ASS is one of my favorite albums of all time!
The best power pop song of all time!
Check out “Come and Get it” or “Day after Day” also. First time I heard these songs I thought they WERE the Beatles. They were like a Beatles tribute band!
I got to see them live once in the mid 80's with the surviving members. It was a fantastic show. Such a tragic story. RIP to the members that have passed.
Oh yeah. Good tune. Badfinger. A very young me remembers this tune from the AM radio during car time and bar time with my dad after his weekly softball league games.
The Beatles weren't super involved with them. Paul wrote their first single and George produced part of one of their albums but they wrote their own material . They are the beginning of power pop. I think they sound like them because they have the beautiful harmonies and super catchy melodies.
For me, they only sound like the Beatles when Tom and Joey are singing.
Think about those Liverpool accents..
Pete is in his own league and the driving force of the band and I must say an excellent guitarist and singer.
Mike always gets left out. His drumming is awesome, consistent and always plays the song! and don’t forget he could write too!
They were my first concert. This is the song they opened with. I'll never forget it.
A&A, you'll love their "No Matter What", "Day After Day" and "Come And Get It"!!!
Badfinger was the gateway to what became the power pop era in the 70's through 2000's. There may have been some Beatles influence, but when you bite down on it, it is an entirely new sub-genre of music that had other fingerprints on it.
Like all the Badfinger hits. Baby Blue has always been my favorite. Still have the 45. First concert I went to I was 14. It was Badfinger and Billy Preston. 😎
One of my all time favorites. You guys underrated it.
Some very tragic back story with this band, there last album is a hidden rock gem, they're best album I think, its spectacular. Wish You Were Here is what it's called and the production is their best ever. A little history on the band they were on the apple label which the Beatles created and Paul McCartney wrote their first top ten hit (Come And Get It) and there debut album was a soundtrack to a film Magic Christian which Ringo Star played a main role in. Unfortunately one of there managers, Stan Polley robbed them dry and even after they had multiple songs topping the charts they still all lived in one house. Peter (the main singer and songwriter) committed suicide not long after his wife got pregnant in 1974 and hung him self in his garage which was devastating, peter tried calling Stan Polley endless times but he never answered and Peter just wanted to know why his money wasn't coming in because he just got a lease on the house and couldnt pay for it. After Stan Polley found out about Peters suicide, just to show how terrrible and disgusting he is, wanted to get Peters life insurance. And Tom (the bassist and Peter's best friend) committed suicide 8 years after and hung himself on a tree in his yard and his daughter found him. Absolutely tragic, one of rock and rolls history saddest stories truly.
If I ever find out where Polley is buried and I am near there I will make a concerted effort to pour a cup of p-i-s-s on his grave.
I always felt Straight Up smoked all their other albums
This comment needs to be further up. The A's need to understand this about the band. They were absolutely swindled and cheated out of everything by their vile manager. This was the reason their album sales were not good and the suicides, not the other way around
I didn’t realize back then how much they sounded beatlesque. Still A- for me. Lyrics and drums A+.
If any single group can be credited with "inventing" power-pop, it's these guys.
Rasperries and Badfinger did it together.
@@randalllee5400Yeah agreed. The Raspberries were key to kickstarting it in the States for sure. Both great bands.
These guys have a few hits, and such a wonderful sound.
My father loves these guys. Maybe, the first power pop band. This band is a prime example of how the music industry can eat you up and spit you out. They wrote, Without you ' which Harry Nilsson covered. "Perfection", "Day After Day", "Name Of The Game" and "Take it all" are all great songs by them. George Harrison does some very good slide and guitar work on some of these songs.
Just one, actually ... but it's a doozy. "Day After Day" has some of the prettiest slide work that ever appeared in the *Billboard* Top 40.
@@gregsager2062 I agree.
One of my favorites, though not as well known as some others, is Meanwhile Back at the Ranch/Should I Smoke. It rocks pretty hard, maybe harder than anything else they did?
Great song yes!
Perfectly chosen for the closing scene of "Breaking Bad".
Also the perfect song for the finale of Breaking Bad. 💙
The big thing I like about you guys is that you let the song play through untl you react.
Beautiful song.
I had the great pleasure of seeing Badfinger perform this in 1971. Loved it then and still do! It was the perfect song to end my favorite TV series, Breaking Bad! Pure genius!
"Day After Day" should be listened to, next. I don't ever remember saying to myself when the song came out, "That sounds like the Beatles." It is easier to make the comparison after years of listening to music and understanding the dynamics of the band. Great song, nonetheless.
Day After Day 💙
To me there's _no question_ about the next Badfinger tune to hit: "Day After Day." Exquisite. I'm getting goosebumps just hearing it in my mind.
And thanks for this one, guys -- I really enjoyed it. "Baby Blue" is my second favorite.
For this innocent high schooler, when this song came out, it was the greatest rock number ever -- it had Beatles "purity" and Black Sabbath "crunch." Looking back, I'm surprised I didn't get in multiple car crashes when I was transported by this song on the radio.
I had this 45 rpm and another one as a kid. I remember the dark green apple on the label. I was poor as a church mouse, but would walk up and down the road picking up pop bottles to sell for money to buy records, and I had a good collection. I wish I still had them all! Each one was a treasure to me!
Holy shit! I haven’t heard this song in over 35 years! I’m getting misty-eyed over here!🥲
Great choice. One of the best songs ever recorded
One of the godfathers of the power-pop era.
this is a certified breaking bad moment
I love this and a lot of their songs growing up and given that this is the early 70s, by then the Beatles had so much influence on so many bands and a lot of it was just really explicit and I guess I never even noticed it with Badfinger. I didn't even know as a kid that they had been signed that way. I just love the song and really all of their hits.
And it's funny that you're covering this because my band is just now deciding that we want to do this as a cover and I literally just worked out the guitar solo yesterday.
It's not that it's all that hard but some of the chord progressions are interesting and they choose to do it in the key of B major. But due to the lead singer's range, we decided to drop it a whole step down to A, which just makes learning a lot of the chords for the others easier, and none of them can transpose so I had to do that, but in my head I'm always hearing it in the key of B major, so there's a little bit of getting used to it. What a killer bridge though!
They were a great band and well-loved, but were a victim of essentially predatory management.
