Every time Jay has a lukewarm reaction to a song I can usually predict it will be a fantastic pop tune like this.
Badfinger was a brilliant group in a genre we now refer to as power pop. They were heavily influenced by the Beatles and were closely associated with the band. Unscrupulous management destroyed their career, and led to the band's tragic end.

@@Lensmaster1yes, but if you are going to be a reactor you can't just diss a whole genre of music because you're not giving it a chance. I'm pretty sure he's liked slower songs than this so I don't understand why he says it's too slow. This certainly is not a song I would slow dance to.

Not just influenced, but produced by and even worked with the Beatles. They were the biggest success on their Apple Corps record label, before everything went up the creek. McCartney wrote their first hit ("Come And Get it") and Harrison produced "Day After Day".
Also, some people might not realize, but one of the biggest hits in the 90s by sales was Mariah Carey's "Without You", which was written by Pete Ham and originally recorded by Badfinger in the 70s. They're really underappreciated, IMO.

There was a little act called the Classic Rock Stars and he caught them in a suburb of Chicago. Spencer Davis was the leader the drummer was from Rare Earth, bass player from a sixties band called "Cannibal and The Headhunters," and a few others my hubby can't remember! I never understand why people call this a slow soft song. It's not "slow", it's mid-tempo. Even many hard rock songs are mid -tempo. I think what's throwing Jay is that great singable pop melody and the vocal with those smooth harmonies. This is not a screaming, destroy your vocal cords, type of song, nor is it meant to be. But at the same time, the production on this song and even the vocals are hardly what I call "soft and mellow". I mean, with that highly distorted guitar tone and that catchy riff as well as those heavy drums and bass, whats slow soft and mellow? This song is fantastic!

This song is emotional as hell. And even moreso in the context of what they went through in real life.

How on Earth do we have another Badfinger reaction and still not have a reaction to their best song "Come And Get It"? It is a song written by Paul McCartney during the Beatles years and GIVEN to the band to record when they joined the Apple Records label. I am asking please make this your next Badfinger reaction. You will not be disappointed.

George Harrison had a part to play in this band. This song is evident of continuing the Beatles style.

Their manager ripped them off leaving them penniless causing Peter Ham to commit suicide. Discovered by George Harrison and Paul McCartney. They started to believe Paul was over involved in their music but how do you tell a Beatle to butt out? Another member and Ham's best friend also committed suicide. Such a saf story for a great band. Harry Nilsson recorded "Without You" a major hit for him.

The inspiration for the band's name was the Beatles song "With A Little Help From My Friends" Which had been called "Bad Finger Boogie" supposedly because Lennon composed the melody on a piano using his middle finger after having hurt his forefinger.

A great band that I had almost forgotten about. Might I suggest the 1969 hit by the British rock band Marmalade, Reflections of My Life? Lovely song that brings back nostalgic feelings of my early childhood. I'd also like to suggest the Canadian rock band Lighthouse. They were a multi-instrument band that had hits in the 70s like Sunny Days and One Find Morning. Give them all a try!

They were ripped off by people who were supposed to be taking care of them.

I'm right with you, Amber .. This is an absolute masterpiece ! ❤.. The wonderful melody, the numerous catchy hooks and guitar runs in between the vocal phrases, the beautiful and bittersweet lyrics, the spot on lead and harmony vocals, and more .. I simply adore this song ! .. Jay, you must have wax in your ears, mate🙄

The last member to join them played as bad finger in Pete's home town swansea at the heist bar about 5years ago what a terrific night and the woman that the song (without you )is about was there, as their families , i wish a film maker would do their story on the big screen such a terrible way to get ripped off by their manager and the tragic aftermath that followed ,god bless bad finger

A superb but very tragic band, this was produced by Todd Rundgren and released on the Beatles Apple Record Label. Pete Ham the lead singer on this wrote it about a woman he met on their last US tour. Very popular song and featured recently in the show 'Breaking Bad'.

Love this song. I've always classified Badfinger as one of the pioneers of Power Pop. very rocking / nasty guitar tones & big drums, yet very melodic and hooky. The guitars aren't super distorted like in modern rock, but they are right on the edge of that distortion & really cutting in the midrange.

The term 'power pop' that you have probably heard thrown around pretty much started with Badfinger, Big Star, The Raspberries, and others, although we didn't call it that back then. This album, "Straight Up" was my first album; gifted to me from my cousin David from Maryland. The song 'Perfection' which NOBODY reacts to is probably my favorite on the album. Thank for the upload.

I saw these lads in Detroit in Feb 74 at the Michigan Palace. These guys were so awesome. They were a Beatles discovery and if you listen closely they have to remind you of the Beatles. As I have told you before I was blessed to be involved with a lot of the Detroit sounds and groups that came through. From the 60s to the mid 70s I was blessed to either know, meet or even jam with so many great musicians

This clip was originally from the early 70s TV music show Rollin' On The River, starring Kenny Rogers & The First Edition and filmed in Toronto. To anyone who remembers Badfinger and the story of how some truly evil business deals not only killed the band, but led to the suicide of two of its members, watching any clip of them always has a sad edge to it. But they are still great to watch and listen to.

Song gives me chills every time I hear it (like right now). This album got lots of play in my house growing up. Knowing the history of the band and Pete Hamm (lead singer) in particular ... gives their brand of Beatle-esque power pop a very "haunting" tone. Being aware of that black cloud always lingering right there ... somewhere close by, changes the whole mood. And being someone who watched BREAKING BAD from MINUTE ONE to the very end ... I was floored. Was not prepared for that. Hate to admit it but tears were shed. It was perfect.

"Baby Blue" was Badfinger's 5th of 7 charted singles on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking @ #14 in 1972. The 3 preceding singles all made the Top 10: (Come & Get it (#7), No Matter What (#8) & "Day After Day (#4). "Baby Blue " was produced by Todd Rundgren.

Yes, a band that had such great melody songs like Day After Day, this song which is my favorite of theirs. It is the melody and cadence of the song, with the ascending guitar riffs. Amazing tune from the year of my high school graduation, the glorious year of 1972.
