    One of the biggest reasons trucks aren't selling: TOO FUCKING EXPENSIVE!!! If you're gonna spend as much as they're asking, people just upgrade to the better versions instead. Like a Ram is already expensive, and the R/T is only a trim package, not a performance & suspension package like the 70s, so it's not worth the HUGE extra cost to people. Also, no manual transmission as an option is a JOKE. Add that as an option and they WOULD be selling those trucks. Seriously, the R/T should have a 2" dropped suspension with higher spring rate, larger sway bars, 22" wheels instead of 20s, and the 6.4L V8, possibly with a slightly hotter cam, and the 6speed manual as an option. THAT'S what the R/T SHOULD be. THAT'S how you get people to buy those trucks.

    The reason the R/T Ram isn't a huge seller is because the Express model eclipses it. The Express is also available with the same 5.7 liter Hemi V8, SWB and single cab, but uses a 60/40 bench-style seat, fewer luxury options and still comes with 20" chrome-clad wheels, fog lights and body-color matched bumpers. It has all the performance of the R/T without the extra luxury and price, and it will seat 3 people.

    BRING BACK SMALL TRUCKS! Even midsize trucks these days (Colorado, Taco, Fronty) are the size of full sized trucks 20 years ago. I have an 09' Taco, 2.7 four banger with a 5-speed manual and 4wd. It's a regular cab and that's all I need. I had to go out of my way to find one in a market flooded with mega-cabs, automatic transmissions and off-road packages that 1% of buyers actually use. Trucks these days are small apartments on wheels. Bring back small, practical trucks!!! I hate you chicken tax...

  • @SuzukiKid400
    @SuzukiKid400 7 ปีที่แล้ว +44

    I think a big reason for the Tundra and Titan not doing well is because of styling. Lots of guys buy their truck for the image proposition. The Tundra and Titan are not attractive at all, especially when you put them beside the handsome styling of the Dodge, Chevy and Ford. Then there's the value. The American trucks are very competitive and offer many unique features. But mostly I think it comes down to loyalty. Your average truck buyer wants to replace their Dodge, Chevy or Ford with another Dodge, Chevy or Ford and buying a Japanese truck is sacrilegious.

Even if these doped up engines could get the mileage promised by the manufacturers (which they don't), I'd still pick a Ford 5.0L, a Hemi, Hell, even Nissan's gas V8 over any of them. You know, the new Cummins ISV is big disappointment. I don't even know why anyone would consider it.

    My primary issue with any new truck is I need a 4x4 with NO luxury extras. I will be working the hell out of it so I don't need any chrome or anything else luxury based. Finding a base model with the engine I want, with 4x4, towing options, decent tires and cab that I can sleep in if I have to.....it does not exist. I always end up with a $40,000+ truck and I do not need what they come with. I will just use my old Wrangler and trailer until the wheels fall off and then I will put them back on and use it some more. The modern truck market has left this old man behind.

It's full size, has a naturally aspirated V8, steel body, 4x4, no auto start stop technology, no cylinder deactivation, no self park, no blind spot monitoring, no lane departure sensors, no 360 overhead camera, no infrared night vision, no heads up display, no parking sensors, no sun roof, no heated seats, no power seats, no power mirrors, no telescoping pedals, no wireless phone charger, no onstar, no power rear window....

      I just discovered Ram makes the 2022 Classic 1500 in a regular cab short (6'4") box 4x4 with optional power bucket seats AND a full length console AND a 5.7L Hemi V8. It's very similar to this truck but has an 8-speed auto instead of a 6-speed auto. Hopefully Ram will eventually offer this same configuration with the latest generation 1500.
      I also read recently GM is finally bring back the Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500 4x4's in the regular cab short box configuration but only in work truck trim. I'm not positive but they may be available with the optioned 5.3L V8 so there's hope. Ford still makes the F150 with the 5L V8 in this configuration but not with bucket seats and full length console like the Ram Classic.
      EDIT: The name 'short box' is commonly used but all of these regular cabs with the shorter beds are actually 'standard beds' around 6 - 6.5'. The actual short boxes are around 5.5' and not offered in regular cabs.

    I just bought a 2017 Silverado 1500 Double cab work truck. 5.3L, 6 speed, 3:42 axle. It's an awesome truck. For a base model truck I got touch screen audio Bluetooth and back up camera. Tow package with brake control. I got it for $29k with 5 miles on it. It has everything I NEED and more than I could have expected for a base model truck. I couldn't be happier!

    I personally don't own the RT model but I own the regular express. its pretty much the same as an RT without the bells and whistles. this is an awesome truck and the mileage is not terrible and it pulls for days. my truck is a 2013 and rated around the 9500 pound mark. I had tow a camper aprox 200 miles and my mother, whose camper it was weighing in at around 6500 pounds, looked over and I was doing 80 mph. she asked me how much more power the truck had just out of curiosity. I buried the throttle and it pulled up to 90 with ease. these powerful truck are ridiculous and I get around 16.5 mph city and 21 hwy. I will always support these trucks!

    I like your video guys. Also on used trucks, the ford ranger is a good buy. The 4.0 and the 3.0 are great motors. I have had 3 rigs with the 3.0 V6 and they had way over 300.000 miles when i sold them and still running great. Note, service the transmission in them (AT) every 30.000 miles and they keep on trucking. As far a new, i NEVER buy new as you can get them soooooo much less after 4 or 5 year (even 10 yrs old) and alot of guys don't put alot of miles on them.

It has the 40/20/40 cloth bench seat so I had the dealership change them out for leather seats. Haven’t even picked it up yet but can’t wait.

      It's all a matter of what you are used to driving. If you aren't economically challenged, nor have to navigate narrow european streets, the extra cabin space of an extended cab and/or 4 dr is nice, while the open bed obviously allows taller cargo, and messier cargo than the carpeted payload area of an SUV.
      They make all 3 vehicle configurations so buy whatever you want, as will everyone else despite your not understanding their reasons.

      another reason cause they make them in Mexico. I actually own a 2015 Ram RT, when I was shopping for one the dealer (Southern California) I went to had 3, I bought one of them the other 2 were gone the same week. One reason they don't have high sell numbers they didn't make too many into RT trim and also Ram carries the regular express which is pretty much the same except its not equipped with all the bell and whistles. Not mention the price tag they stat at 37k and go up to 41k people aren't going to pay that for a single cab especially if you skip out the fancy stuff and get it for mid to high 20's.
