    Love listening to Magic talk about Bird.. These 2 men changed the NBA.. Hands down. What is so amazing about Bird though he wanted the challenge of a great defender.. he would ask for someone to defend him..

      I saw the game when Larry and Doc were battling back and the camera man showed Bird saying something to Dr.J that clearly upset Dr.J . The next time Larry tried to gard Dr.J.
      The Doctor did a poster slam dunk on top of Larry's Bird head and face. Larry got upset said something back to Dr.J. And that was it Dr.J fired a heymaker blow directly to Larry Bird face.
      Larry didn't say another word and avoid the Doctor.
      Larry Bird is a great player although Dr.J is a straight up non trash talking good sportsmanship athlete. In perspective Bird behavior that game was if he was playing the Detroit Pistons.

    I grew up in Boston, went to at least 20 games at the Boston Garden...
    BIRD wasn't fast, he was Quick, fast handed steals, quick elusive fakes, quickest to the rebounds, quick insane passing.
    One of the fastest thinkers, playmaker and shot takers.

    I get so damn tired of hearing that Bird was not athletic!! Anyone who can get his spot on the floor against the great players he played against time and again was athletic. He certainly could jump. See highlights of his dunks or blocks. He only jumped when needed. How about jumping into the air spinning in the air to square up to the basket and draining his shot.

  • @conceptualclarity
    @conceptualclarity 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +16

    Larry Bird was a far better athlete than Byron Scott gives him credit. He was a 6-10 1/2 power forward who dribbled behind his back and moved on the court like a shooting guard. He would have had no trouble playing point guard on offense like Magic did. He certainly got his share of dunks and his vertical leap was actually better than Dennis Rodman. If you think Bird had no athletic ability, look at the film of him playing the Lakers in Los Angeles when Magic Johnson seems to be going for an uncontested layup and Bird runs him down from far behind and blocks his shot at the last second.

    • @olben1095
      @olben1095 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Bird was great at regulating his play to get the win. He kept a lot of his potential in reserve and tapped into it when needed. No doubt he could have been more flamboyant, but that was not his game.

    You would have had to be there to understand how good Bird was, just like you had to be there to know Jordan is the greatest player ever. People never talk about Bird's actual skills. He took a last place Celtic team to first place in the division. The same team from the year previous, before McHale, before Parrish, before Dennis Johnson. In Bird's first 3 years he won Rookie of the year, MVP. and a Championship. In his next 4 years he won 2 more MVPs and 2 more Championships. In his first 3 years with the Celtics he led the team in scoring, rebounding, steals and finished 2nd in assists. In the next 3 years he led the Celtics in scoring, assists, steals, and finished 2nd in rebounds. And you want to compare this guy to Kevin Durant. I like Durant, but it is always a case of the new player is better. Someone tried to tell me Aaron Rodgers is better than Joe Montana. Whatever

    “I hated the Celtics” that is the best compliment you can give them.
    I used to hate the Lakers too and only because they were so damn good !!!
    What I liked about the Celtics back then was they had a mostly white team and a Black coach.
    I thought that was great. They broke every racist stereotype.

    This WHITE BOY Me 51 years young now but could DUNK in 8th grade. I had hang time and speed and I played against 18 to 30 year old guys and they had nothing on me. Don't fall for "stereotype" because it's like judging a book by its cover.

    I can't see how they say Larry the Legend wasn't ATHLETIC! But yet he was BETTER than all of them!

    • @richardpare3538
      @richardpare3538 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Larry was ho where near as fast as most great player, definitely couldn't jump high, which is what they are describing when they say that he wasn't "athletic". but was a way smarter player than any of them.
      Someone else said "MJ makes you look slow, but Larry makes your look stupid!".
