Ilan Pappe, professor of history at the University of Exeter and Director of the European Centre for Palestine Studies, author of Lobbying for Zionism on Both Sides of the Atlantic, discusses the state of affairs in the Middle East a year after October 7th, 2023

Professor Ilan Pappé then joins, diving right into the rapid escalation and exacerbation of Israeli society and the Israeli state’s genocidal desires, first tackling the clear signs of the citizenry’s right-wing turn and the Netanyahu Administration’s messianic nature in the wake of the 2022 elections, before unpacking his thoughts on how the rapid radicalization during Israel’s brutal ethnic cleansing of Gaza (now expanded into a regional conflict) has exposed extensive cracks in the state of Israel. After briefly touching on the role of Israeli’s backlash to Netanyahu’s fascistic judiciary reforms - and the particular dearth of any connection between the violence imposed on Palestinians and the fascism coming home to roost - in demonstrating the precarious state of the country, Professor Pappé steps back to explore this evolution as a natural progression of right-wing colonial ideology in direct conflict with the world it’s invading, bolstered by Israel’s proactive violence in stamping out any conditions for change. Ilan then walks Sam and Emma through the evolution of the super-alliance that backs the Zionist state, exploring the movement’s roots in an Evangelical Christian movement that sought to capitalize on anti-Semitic sentiment and the growing aims of the British Empire, putting together an overwhelmingly powerful coalition before the Jewish community even came to the fore, also looking at the incredible evolution of the Zionist lobby in the United States and how Israel’s ability to stamp out conditions for change extends well beyond its border. After expanding on the ever-growing international backlash to Israel’s genocidal apartheid regime, Pappé dives deep into the need to recenter Palestinian actors in this fight, and what must be done to achieve decolonization in the region as quickly and with as little violence as possible.

If you think this Jew hater is an international treasure then I think your level of intelligence and education is of a very low level. Obviously a Islamic death- cult supporter or a western leftie - loony who needs to leave their bedroom.

Thé TRUTH hurts the Zionists and and Historians that write Lies, sadly there's very few Historians and people with so many Wonderful Trais, especially as professor Pappe is Jewish, professor Finklestein and Professor Chomsky are 2 more wonderful souls, obviously all 3 Sacrificed riches for peace, it's a crime not to pray for such people religious or not in my opinion. RIP Aaron Bushnell, Rachel Corrie and everyone else that have strived to stop the Genocide.

They don't care about anything but their own enrichment and greed and are completely subservient to corporate interests. They don't represent you as in most countries of the world the politicians in power don't represent their voters. It was shocking for me too when I realized this, sickening. It made me angry and very sad at the same time.

And do check out Rashid Khalidi's The 100 Year War On Palestine. And then keep going, although it will be far more difficult to get other useful titles through your library. These 3 are generally available even in smaller rural libraries, often in audio book and print versions.

Unfortunately they are too brainwashed to leave. I watch an interview with an Israeli who left Israel. And he described that country as a cult. The way they are manipulated from birth, they have no idea that Palestine (Gaza / West Bank) even exists. They don’t talk about so you will not ask questions. And when they leave the country they are casted out, contact with families, friends are lost. Just like a cult. It’s very sad

One possibility raised by some is that the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza is intended to create a waste land in order to build a new canal to the Mediterranean and hence compete out the power of Egypt over the Suez Canal. Engineers have even discussed using nukes for digging such canal, in a similar vein to what was planned in middle america when the US was thinking of using nukes for 'geolandscaping' of new canals. Time will tell if this prediction is accurate, but it would explain the enormous destruction of buildings across the Gaza Strip - as the Israelis might not even have the intention to ever rebuild that region again (let alone allowing others to do so). In this view the genocide on Palaestinians is a means towards that end. I hope this cynical prediction will not be true let alone succeed but the Israelis, by their own admission, have created unlivable conditions in this part of land supposedly under their 'protection' for years to come.

I love Ilan Pappe! But I don't like how you guys still gotta plug how Harris might conduct the genocide differently than the way she's conducting it now into the conversation; because "she'll have no [political] space" to conduct the genocide that she's conducting right now the way she's conducting that genocide RIGHT NOW.
I don't like it when people advocate for war criminals that perpetrate genocide--neither directly nor indirectly--as was the case here.
Jill Stein isn't a perpetrator of genocide. And you can advocate for her without becoming complicit in the genocide. If you vote for harris, then you are giving consent (a vote) for her actions and policies--which happen to amount to genocide right now--among many other crimes against humanity.
I say the word genocide so much because I want to make it harder for people to skirt around this fact. For all you complicit DNC operatives.
It doesn't matter if you cry for Palestinians while you endorse the person empowering the people that are killing them to kill them. No one cares how you feel about it. When the facts are accounted for, there will be a checkbox next to your name followed by a sentence that reads, "Endorsed a coperpetrator of genocide?"

Well said. Sadly MR and its fanbase have lost all common sense/humanity. “Yea we care for the Palestinians but we’ll still vote for the people who murdered them”. Ffs. That saying “scratch a liberal and a fascist bleeds”. If I lived in US, I’d vote for Stein, and aim to at least crush the 2-party system

  • @ebflegg
    @ebflegg 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

The fatal weakness of the UN system on the question of Palestine is that Israel claims its legitimacy as a state - its 'right to exist' - on the basis of its admission to the UN in 1948 by a two-thirds majority, albeit opposed by all its Arab neighbours (therein the sign of all trouble to come).
1948 was an important moment. India had gained its independence the previous year and decolonisation was beginning to gain momentum. Two developments bucked this trend: the establishment of Israel and the election of the white nationalists in South Africa, who set out to establish apartheid.
Less than a generation later, say about 15 years, UN membership had trebled; the USSR and satellites had also changed their position on support for Israel. In this changed world, a motion brought to the UN to establish a Jewish settler colony on a British mandate territory in Arab lands could never have gained a two-thirds vote: for a 'Jewish state' could only be established by driving out the indigenous inhabitants.
From this stems also the flawed project of the 'two-state solution', which is neither just nor viable: it's premised on Israel's membership of the UN as a legitimate state.
International law is hoist on this petard. All fair-minded people can see that ethnocracy is wrong, and that it was misguided to make reparations to European Jews for the Holocaust by allowing them to settle in the Middle East and start the Zionist project of ethnic cleansing.
The only solution that meets contemporary criteria of human rights and democratic values is for Israel/Palestine to become a single, secular, democratic state with equal rights for all. The so-called 'international community' needs to recognise that those powers who imposed Israel on the Middle East in 1948 were wrong to do so, and that the vast majority of current UN member states were excluded from the decision. Bad decisions of the past should not all be immutable or freeze the possibility for the righting of historic wrongs.

I believe Israel is getting to the point where apartheid South Africa was in the 1980s.
The international BDS against SA started in the 1960s after the Sharpeville massacre, but the UK & US continued to support SA due to cold war geopolitics. The Soweto uprising happened in 1976, but the support from the US & UK continued. It was only in the mid-1980s when the UK & US stopped their support that the regime realised that they are heading towards complete failed state status, that they secretly started negotiations with the ANC (consideed terrorist organisations by apartheid SA & the UK & US amongst others).
It were these negotiations that eventually lead to a the negotiated solution in the 1990s that prevented SA going the same route.

A free Palestine, where Jews and Palestinians would live together in a Democratic state would become an economic powerhouse. I had it even confirmed by a conversation I had privately with the head of the Israeli Central bank many years ago. Investments in the region could explode, coming both from western nations, and the Arab world. The talents of all these populations is remarkable, and they would be the truly between East and West. This has always been their role and I dream that it will become again the role that the Levant plays in world politics, and in the economy.

Because they were the ones who cared the least about the consequences to the world and made the most efficient colonialist empire due to machine guns. If the Machine gun had been delayed by a couple of decades England would have fallen apart. War advancements that can keep the gap between the coloniser and colonised big enough then the colonised die out in the physical sense or the cultural sense until they are subjects unaware they aren't just subjects.

I condemn the Israeli State, and I condemn the IDF. I don't believe any populace should be condemned in their entirety based on the actions of their government, Israelis included.
That said, genocide apologists, sympathizers and actors absolutely MUST be judged accordingly.
In my opinion to advocate for the cause effectively we absolutely have to acknowledge that there are indeed "good" people with Israeli citizenship, lest we end up just like those we currently abhor.

This is actually very scary. We as average citizens have no influence whatsoever what happens on any level of society or the world. It's very depressing and unbelievably sad.
Religion is a main problem and indoctrinating propaganda. Israel seems to be hopeless, like a lot of societies and countries or maybe the whole of humankind. We make progress, but first and foremost we move in neverending circles.

  • @akids04

A single state is no longer a feasible option as the demographics has changed with roughly 9M Jews almost matching the native population. It would also be an unequal society in optician and economic terms. Palestinians will not be able to assert their will or achieve their rights without a catastrophic collapse of Israel. Sadly I agree with Ilan on this but I think Prof Pappe’s idea of a single state will not be a solution for the Palestinians as it has been for the SOuth Africans and colonised people elsewhere.

It worked in the US. It's not only a feasible solution It's the only solution. The 2 state solution is dead given all of the illegal settlements. Israel will have to make the decision to let go of its ethno nationalist idealogy or watch its own demise.

Inevitable march of history for settler colonial states that tend to disintegrate…will Israel be an exception to the historic rule? Golden opportunities for the European project to somehow integrate over the years were not realised. It’s more akin to HK and the gradual changeover into Chinese control.

Parmis Hamnava, only 14 years old.
The girl, as reported by the Haalvsh agency, would have been beaten to death by police officers after they discovered it during a search of school books a TORN PHOTOGRAPH OF KHOMEINI.
Parmis Hamnava she would be beaten in class in front of his companions, only to die later in the hospital. The agents, soon after, would have threatened family members and witnesses not to return the body to them if they informed someone of the death of the young woman.
