- Avi Shlaim is one of the great living historians: Professor of International Relations at Oxford University, he's a proud self-described Arab Jew, born in Baghdad in 1945. That heritage has deeply influenced him, and we talk about Zionism, the real history of Israel that is often erased, defying the attempt to start the clock on 7th October, the question of state terrorism, how there could have been a different approach to Hamas, genocide - and why a one state giving equal rights to all is the solution.
His new book, appropriately enough, is 'Three Worlds: Memoirs of an Arab-Jew'.

For any one who seeks a solution for this conflict should bear in mind an important fact: the state of Israel can no longer exist under it's current status. Then we have all to show some intelligence to find a peaceful solution based on justice, equality and rights.

He's one of a kind academic, and a great historian.

I lived in oxford back in 1978 and found it to be a most interesting place to live in. The Ashmolian museum has some of the finest Egyptian artifacts outside Egypt. There was a pub called the Plasteres Arms near the football ground which I frequented.

Read Avi's The Iron Wall if you want a proper understanding of the 75 year history of the Israeli occupation.
One state solution will inevitably be the only solution . one person one vote with the right of refugees to return and vote. one palestinian country with equal rights and security for all who live in it. and a security for the isrealis who wish ro remain under an arab majority rule . an amnesty for the past too like the truth and reconciliation of south africa.
It is impossible for Israelis and Palestinians to co-exist after the genocide and the suffering these sick monsters have inflicted on the Palestinian people. Palestinians must have their own state and Israel should withdraw to its original borders!
I don't think that painting one side as bad and the other as angels is very helpful.

My ex's family were from Morocco and the father regretted going to Israel, where they were poor and living in the Moroccan Jerusalem slum. It was far worse than being poor. The family's kids all went into foster projects. They grew up literally starving, improperly clothed in winter, abused, full of lice and scabies. The housing was social projects subsidized by the state. Conversely, the father said his brothers who were still in Morocco, were very well off and he often expressed that he had made a mistake in coming to Israel.
One of the most professional and respectful hosts i ever watched on TH-cam.
