Huge fan and follower. I was always fascinated about skydiving. But i had this huge fear of jumping out of a perfectly fine plane. which i always thought to be crazy thing to do. I have been following you for long time now and you made me overcome my fear. All your videos gave me so much confidence and i started feeling you as my first instructor. Finally, made my first AFF cat-A jump last week. What an unbelievable experience. cant wait to jump again. I am jumping this Friday again. planning to make 2 more jumps this time. Thanks to you and you made this possible. Finally, started my adventurous journey and no stopping now. Also planning to get licensed by the end of this summer.
Not an issue for a lot of jumpers, but Sunpath (Javelin) and Aerodyne (Icon) recommend type 8 risers and large rings for anyone over 230 lbs exit weight, and mandatory for exit weight over 260. Wish I would have known when I bought my used rig, would have likely bought a brand new one with the correct risers and ring system.
@@flyingunicycle I think it's a combination of strength and the wider width of the type 8 riser to better absorb shock of hard opening... especially bad for heavy jumpers

I just went through the process of ordering my first container (A Micron V310) and the amount of options and customizations was overwhelming, I had to spend hours and hours comparing each option. Steel handles vs fabric handles? If Steel handles, which of the 4 or 5 different options? louie loops? container fabrics? lenght of the risers? Container size? main brand and size? reserve brand and size? Which pilot chute? Skyhook/RSL? Freefly mod? Fabric porosity? Main deployment location? spectra ripcord? Trulok toggles? 3 rings size? Magnetic riser covers? Freefly mod? etc... etc... etc... And once the rig options have been defined, your next dilemma is deciding the colors, fabric, embroideries, etc... Its a beautiful experience for people getting their first brand new rig, but the task is a little daunting for someone new. I was blessed to have support from Joannie from Skydive City Z-Hills, who patiently guided me through all options and helped me decide on the best options and sizes. If anyone is getting a Micron/Vector rig, I have a cheat sheet I can share, with all of the options I had to chose from in the UPT order form.
The Curve one seems to be really good value. I felt in love with it since you got it. I read a lot about it's characteristics and it's very attractive. I'll try to find someone who has one just to try in on my back, but the Curve would definitly be my first choice.
Yeah! Make sure to try it out but I do love mine. (Disclaimer it is my first custom one) but still it impresses many people on the DZ for its features.

Hello, How would you configure your container to be freely and wingsuit friendly? I am new to this sport, doing my AFF license now. I feel like these 2 discipline is what I want to do. However, I would like to buy only one container, if that is even possible. Thank you!
I would say to focus on your training for now and you'll learn a lot about the gear you need. It is still to soon. To settle on a discipline yet and you'll have multiple rigs in your life due to your canopy progression. I advise to start with a used one first as you progress and test the different disciplines. When you'll be ready to focus on one you'll know what rig will fit you best. ;)
Question: are wingsuit containers also suitable for FF? Or is it better to get an FF container to use for wingsuit? Or can the container have all attributes?
New subscriber here. I have a question for getting certified. How fast do you have to do the different steps? I am doing my 3rd tandom tomorrow. I am taking my niece for her graduation gift. I have not yet started my aff courses because I've never had enough money but I am going to do whatever it takes to get it done now. I am just wondering if I have to get all my jumps in a certain amount of time so I know how much money I'll need and how fast I'll need it.
Hi Catherine. I am just now ready to start my skydiving career and am ready to sign up for a "Class A package" at my local drop zone. I have one tandem jump. They are offering me jumps and training up to my Class A License from this point to jump number 25, (excluding any cost for re-jumps due to failure to pass on a jump), for $2,150 in one up front cash payment. Does this sound like a reasonable price with no "hidden fees"? I just don't want to be surprised with additional fees because of "hidden wordage". Is a price like that somewhat normal to get all the way to my Class A? Or does it sound unreasonably low? I am a disabled Vet, and on a semi-limited income. I have saved up this money, and want to make sure its not just a form of a "down payment". I have completed jump school in the US Army (25 years ago and a completely different experience), completed a static-line course, (again, like 25 years ago, lol), and did a tandem jump about 6 months ago that my drop zone is willing to use in place of the initial tandem jump with them. This assures me that, although I don't have an extensive knowledge of the sport, I DO have to assurance that skydiving is definitely for me. Also, in reference to the failed jumps and re-jumping, what is the average failed jumps a new skydiver makes through their Class A course? Take into consideration I am 5'7" and only 160 lbs, and very physically "flexible" I guess you can say for my age, (meaning I don't forsee any failures due to physical limitations or panic). Thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos. I have watched almost very one, some over again a few times. You have enlightened me, (an the rest of us "newbies"), with SO much pre-education. You answered so many questions I would have asked. I don't know where you live or jump at, but I one day hope to meet you and thank you in person and make a jump with you. God Bless you and stay safe in the skies :-)
I'm currently doing a similar A class package. My dropzone offers it at $2900 so yours is a good deal. Unfortunately, I've already spent another $1000 on wind tunnel training and rejumps due to failing the first release dive several times. Some people have a heck of a time staying stable on their first release dive and need to repeat it many times (like me) but some people get right through it no problem. You should definitely have at least another $500 ready in your budget. Does their package include the packing class and USPA membership?
@@aroundlsu they do not offer the USPA membership or actual license fees in that price, nor the packing class. They do offer the packing class sometimes free sometimes in groups for $20-$30. So no big deal on that, already planned ahead for it. I decided to go with another drop zone I feel more comfortable with, "Canton Air Sports" In Alliance Ohio and will be trained by an actual Russian professional skydiver that likes to train students on his spare time, (the name eludes me right now). This A license package is $2580, but again, I feel more comfortable with them. Everyone else treated me like I was bothering them. I'm sorry, but I'm going to ask questions. This is my life on the line, (as well as the safety of others), and I take it VERY seriously. I already have a notebook that I'm using to study now, (Skydiving terms, what Wingload is, how to calculate it, canopy shapes and sq footage, what is expected of me, anything safety related, gear checks and how important they are, ETC). Would you be willing to maybe be friends on Facebook so I can message you with ay questions I have? I can tell you that 3 of the 5 close DZ's here act like I'm bothering them, and I have heard from multiple sources they just want your money. My name is Jeff Painter, I'm from Boardman, OH if you'd like to find me on Facebook. (My profile pic will be me and my red-headed fiance' with masks down off our faces, lol)
Hiiiiiiii. Long time fan, first time commenter…..just had some questions….are you French-Canadian or Russian????? Love the accent:). Also how many jumps do you have and are you scared or nervous to jump…..I know I would be ;D
Please, mom, I have a question outside of the subject of the video. How to calculate the area of a canopy .. for example, when we say a canopy of an area of 150 or 180 square feet. So what do we mean by that - how does the manufacturer calculate it?
In my opinion a rsl or mard is not always a good choice, for example if you're flying a high performance canopy and you have a malefunction where you are spinning in all kind of directions, a mard/rsl could cause that you get heavily entangled with your reserve. Someone at my home DZ is also flying a 76 sq ft canopy without any rsl or mard because he often was in such situations and if he had one of those options he wouldn't be here today.
