    Always happy to see you showing topics and getting others to learn. I would like to point out that the spring loaded pilot chute is actually not to make the reserve open faster. Due to the area the pilot is extracting from, the spring is to fire it out into clean air outside of our burble.

    When you showed the yellow plastic 3 ring release line it reminded me of a incident at the club many years ago. It happened to a student. He was under canopy at around 1000 feet and the right riser suddenly detached. He went immediately into reserve procedure, it opened at 500 feet, and he landed safely. Upon inspection it was found that the yellow release cord was short and when the risers stretched it release the riser. Scary stuff.

    Thanks Catherine for a wonderful video, once again. Still very new to the sport, I appreciated diving deeper into the bowels of the reserve canopy! Simple yet precise. Would also love to know the differences in canopies as well as packing between the main and reserve, which make the reserve so reliable but also its trade-offs (to the main). Edw.

    Just to clarify @ min 10.50 of the video (cutaway release cables)
    Obviously the lenght of the cables is not equal but if you notice, also the part in excess over the risers 3 ring's locking loop is not equal as you can see in the video 'cause of the RSL presence.
    The excess of the RSL side riser (in the UPT Vector is the right one) cutaway cable is a little bit longer to avoid the RSL riser release before the other one (left) during a cutaway in order to prevent a reserve pin pulled with the other riser still attached.
    Anyway a very clear and well explained video like all the others one.

    In Poland it was an accident with AAD.
    The cutter located on the top of reserve canopy, not on the bottom.
    After cutting it not completely cut off the line.
    After that skydiver was not able to open reserve canopy even using handles.
    So, my instructor suggests using the containers with an AAD cutter, which located under a reserve canopy.
    Will try to find info about this accident, but no guarantee.
    Please ensure it with your rigger.

    • @SkydiveVibes
      @SkydiveVibes  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting. This might have been an older rig because I think most of the systems out there have there AAD at the bottom I think.

    In the navy, only a master rigger was allowed to pack/servuce a reserve chute. Also, if you and I were both riggers, we weren't allowed to do our own reserve. The packing card had to be signed by another rigger...I've only had one malfunction and the reserve worked perfectly!!!!!!!

  • @YannCamusBlissClimbing
    @YannCamusBlissClimbing 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I learned everything! I only did a tandem jump... What impresses me is that if you cut away too low you die! No real safety on this!! But since you have your hands on the toggle to stir the canopy, nothing can really happen to the cut away system during that time...

    • @brunomadama9370
      @brunomadama9370 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      not so difficult, in the vector rig, before putting the canopy into the pod, you pass a bodkin t-bar through the upper and lower gromet, then you put the canopy into the pod that will then be crossed by the bodkin t-bar and you use it to rise the pullup cord through the canopy

    • @SkydiveVibes
      @SkydiveVibes  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can always customize your handles when you buy new. It turned out that used rig I got had those handles on. I am practicing my emergency procedures with locations of the handles more than their colors, but I admit that having a slight difference could be a plus. ;)
