The Armourer's Bench 3:27 did you miss an extra zero on the weights, or did I mishear?
Great looking pistol, and never knew it was issued to the British army!

@Matt Hayward Ha yes it sounds like I did. 750g/0.75kg or 1.6lbs for the compact - this is why I have the accompanying article, the weights in there are right! Good catch Matt. :)

That pic of LSPs P5 Lang is what made me HAVE to add one to my collection.
I searched for over a year before finding on a Germany firearm website. Was high bidder, wired funds. It then took over 6 months to get it into the US, and into my collection.
The P5 Lang is the apex of my extensive handgun collection.

Have had my P5 for about 10 years now. It is my go to carry gun. Very accurate with good weight.

And in 1983 it was used in TWO Bond films, by two different James Bonds.

Thanks a lot for making these vids. It's a very nice looking pistol in my opinion, and I don't get why they've never been popular amongst civilians, at least here in Europe, when our gun laws were more permissive back then. I'll begin to look for one, my 7,65 walther PP needs a brother !

The P5 was not only used by the Dutch police, but also by other law enforcement agencies and customs. Als for the mag release. At some time they were replaced by a different modernised release, because it was difficult to operate with gloves and u tended to accidentally release the magazine when the weapon came in contact with the backrest of the seat in the patrol cars. During its servicelife the P5 was also modified to use another type of ammunition with a hollow brass bullet. The use of this bullet caused more wear and tear . When production ceased at the Walther plant, it became to expensive to maintain the weapons well with custom made parts. The P5 was phased out from approx 2013 onwards and replaced with the P99Q NL. The latter also differs slightly from normal production models to accomadate the custom made ammunition (Ruagg Action NL).

I used to out shoot my mates w my old P5. Recently I sold it for more than I paid for it many years ago. It was a nice simple and highly accurate gun. I moved to the UK on a permanent based and figured I needed to sell it. I should have just given it to my brother ??? Another one that got away!

I'm actually pretty sure the heel magazine release is not a matter of it being outdated, but being the European tradition, cause in the European school of shooting, they have the custom of retaining the magazine and storing it back in the magazine pouch, instead of discarding the mag like in the US school.
Unless, they started adopting the US tradition now which I'm not aware of. I personally prefer the mag release to be in the US thumb style, or in the HK paddle style like in the USP, it's the most efficient style imo cause you don't have to adjust your grip
