I have a fully restored 1968 Schwinn five speed stick shift sting-ray deluxe bicycle in coppertone that I only use for indoor display, in all of my thirty plus years as a cyclist iv never gone that fast , you must live in real down hill territory but I will say one thing , hats off to you , you have balls man. Take care and stay safe out there.
I had one of those when I was a kid in the 70s only mine was red and had a small tire and wheel on the front. But I did have the same shifter also handlebars and seat just like yours. That's really cool to see and I'm glad I happened upon your videos. I remember reaching about 45 miles per hour on mine. You clearly have larger balls
Your's was 10 times harder to ride with a springer front because you had a crate bike with springer front if you had 16"on front I still have my brothers lemon peeler it was yellow (I forget what the name of the red one was)and still have mine but I had a Raleigh chopper fun times
Impressive. My highest speed on a bicycle I did back in 1997 I hit 71mph down a steep grade in the Colorado mountains, long before gopros were even a thing. It was crazy as hell. Luckily the bone I was riding had disc brakes so I was able to come to a stop relatively quick.
Don't know how fast but I ride motorcycles so I'm saying 50-60 no two vintage road racer I've got late 60s early 70s Raleigh and Puget I was to fond of strapping in on the pedals 😎
Hi Bill. Curious as to what all your accessories on the handlebars are. I just got my first Stingray and I’m looking to add some cool stuff. Thanks for your time!
Ender, can't remember where. The 60 mph Schwinn Speedos were generally for road bikes. The key is to have the correct drive for your wheel size. The drives were made for 20",24",26",and 27/28". Exercise bikes had them. Try craigslist, eBay, or the Schwinn bike Forum. Good Luck
Ebay is the best bet. Vintage bike forums can be helpful as well. I've also found these at flea markets and even second hand stores. Caution as they are sometimes frozen. Most have not been rebuilt. You will need the correct Huret driver, pitched for your wheel diameter for accuracy. Driver mounts on front hub and is embossed with it's application on it's case. Cables and housing tend to be pricey as they are really only available on the secondary market. For your online research, these Schwinn. speedometer packages were produced by the French company Huret. Hope this helps.
