Check out the What’s Wright? with Nick Wright podcast: sprtspod.fox/WhatsWright_YT
Maybe Nick has a point about rings culture: Mahomes could collect 7 SB rings and still be second-best to Tom Brady, because Tom Brady had a 20 year career at or near the top of the NFL, and actually won a SB at 75, or however old he was - one year from retiring from the league. Tom won SBs with basically 5 different teams (2 officially), or however you want to divide up his eras, and Mahomes may never have that chance. It's a big set of shoes to fill.
Nick's whole "rings culture" argument actually favors Brady and disfavors Mahomes; Brady was a starting QB for the most dominant dynasty in NFL history for over 20 years. He won SBs at the beginning, in the middle, and at the end of that tenure. Then he went on to win another one the first year with a new team. That's how you statistically prove your GOATness over a very long period of time. By doing it with roster after roster after roster after roster after roster after roster after roster...
Wildes' graphic 😂😂😂😂😂
"Pace" ask Jack Nicklaus about Tiger Woods being "on pace." "Pace" is a genuine statistical thing, but in the end you're still putting speculation up against fact. I.e., Brady doesn't have to ever touch a football again; he's actually completed all his work and turned it in and gotten his degree.
Wright: "if Caleb comes in and wins back to back SBs in his first two years, would it be justified to say he's on pace to bla bla bla...absolutely" First, you're back on Team Ring Culture, Nick. Second, you just put "pace" arguments in their proper place: idle speculation.

Andy Reid would obviously be a huge loss, as he’s the offensive mastermind, but think about it like this: Andy Reid is like the music composer of the offense, he creates the framework and directs the performers (those who play the instruments), but at the end of the day the *performers* are who are out there performing. Mahomes is the ultimate performer, as he’s easily the most gifted and talented QB oat. And I strongly believe even after Andy Reid is gone, Mahomes will have developed and retained such a strong framework of experience and wisdom under Andy Reid’s leadership that he’ll be able to remain successful without him (that’s also assuming the Chiefs wouldn’t pick up another elite Offensive mind, which they 100% will).
This was actually the most cogent discussion on how to judge a goat I've seen in any show or podcast. Great work by Brou and Nick
Agree and these comments do not pass the vibe (or IQ) check
Ring culture mostly exists in the NBA. I don't see ring counting in most other sport. But with that said, 7 Super Bowls is an absurd number. Lol. NFL has a 1 and done playoff format and you don't play defence and offence. You play one or the other. So you can be one of the greatest QBs to ever exist, but if you're defence amounts to a bunch of pylons you might never win anything. At least with the NBA you can influence the defensive side and offensive side.
They always do a great job with this topic, making it nuanced and analytical. Then Wildes come in like "hurr durr 7 is more than x". This is why he's a host, not an analyst.

Undisputed was never even in the fight lmao
As a chiefs fan, I think one of the pieces in the Mahomes goat conversation that doesn’t get mentioned enough is how incredible it is that Brady got better as he got older and he played for SOO long. Part of the reason that Jerry Rice is the GOAT receiver is because he was so good for so long. Mahomes really needs a long career to have a shot at Brady’s title.
Which means he has to stay mobile. Unlikely
Montana was better than Mahomie and Brady.
TB method. avocado ice cream. lots of sleep and stretching. and steroids.
@@willzsportscards You forgot the cheating...besides roids.
I think there's a few things that need mentioned when they consider this topic. For 1 the fact that mahomes is a. In the Era of offensive football so naturally his stats per year + when it's all said and done and totalled should be wildly higher compared to bradys and b. Andy Reid is a top 5 offensive minded coach, so he easily outschemes defenses. Combine that with mahomes mobility and his way of keeping plays alive and allowing kelce to find a soft spot. Brady had bill, who was top 5 defensive minded, but the difference between the two is Reid outschemes defenses regularly combined with mahomes playstyle. Belichiks defenses were usually on the better end but when the time came to make a stop more often then not they didn't. It was on brady to get in fg range or score to ice the game. Plus the fact mahomes was drafted in the 1st round with expectations vs brady drafted last all but and no expectations. It all has to play a part. We saw brady win without gronk. We haven't seen mahomes for a stretch without kelce. Bradys 1st half of how career was in a time when you coulr abuse the qb, mahomes is reigning over an era where you can barely touch the qb. No doubt mahomes trajectory is well in line to eclipse brady. But I think those other things have too add alittle weight to it all.

"Passer rating rewards you for efficiency"
- Nick Wrong
"You're just bringing up useless stats about him"
- also Nick Wrong when Brou brought up Purdy's passer rating
most embarrassing person on a sports show, even more than Joy
While Nick does take the Purdy doubt to a high level, his take was consistent in the Goat debate. Purdy has the stats, but no jewelry and certainly doesn’t match the eye test of the All Time Greats he’s being compared to. Of course statistically he’s been great so far, but Nick personally believes Purdy lacks the eye tests and thus won’t get the hardware (we’ll see about that this weekend)
@@kalvin. that is strawmanning and doesn't change a thing. he brings it up when he thinks it benefits his argument butcries instantly when it exposes him
@@bepohal when has he said “you’re bringing up useless stats”? He says the stats can’t be your only reason to say someone is great.
Regardless, this conversation was not about Purdy and so his debate strategy does not even have to be the same between the two different takes. Nothing about what I said is a straw man. From what Nick and Brou have said, to measure a player’s greatness, whether a 2 year player or the goat, you have to take into consideration their statistics, accomplishments, and eye test of talent/ability. Purdy passes the stats with flying colors, and eye test wise he’s certainly not a bad qb by any means. He lacks the accomplishments of the players he’s compared to, and the debate of the show lies where they decide he ranks as far as eye test goes, encapsulated in the argument of picking him or Justin Herbert, whether you’re SF or LAC.
Regardless, most of the debate flaws in this show I attribute to the limited time they have and keeping ratings in mind, and it’s a debate about a game played by guys who dress up, so I’m not gonna cry that someone is at least trying to defend their points cogently beyond “3
Nick has a lot of logic with his takes, even when you don’t agree his arguments are generally sound.
"Lay back in tha cut"-Wildes💯
I also don’t feel that he would need 7 to be in the goat convo. He has done a lot of things so far that have proven him to be one of the greats. There were plenty of amazing qbs that have never gotten one, but that doesn’t mean you take away how great they were just because they never got a ring.
Dan Marino is considered the greatest pure passer to ever play the game of football and didn't win a single ring. Just for example.
That was the most objective discussion about Tom that I've ever heard...right up until Wilds put that graphic up, which was hilarious. We crunched the numbers 😂
How is it the most objective when it was filled with FALSE information. Brou said brady was not a probowler during his first three superbowls while in fact he was a probowler TWO times
Why people hate the chiefs: They are dominant. People are just getting over the Pats dynasty and would kind of like to see NFL parity. They are (Kelce mostly) everywhere on a media blitzkrieg (SNL, commercials, Taylor Swift). It’s a little how people felt about Liz Taylor in the 60s. Too much. That being said, they are an incredible football team.
Montana is the best. Montana's Super Bowl Stats. 4-0, Passer rating average 127! 11 Touchdowns, No picks, and 1,142. Montana was best in the big games. Plus QBS were not protected as much. You could hit them hard.
Jerry rice tax
Well I guess if you only count Superbowls as big games and not conference championships or other playoff games, then yeah sure. Montana was only able to help his teams reach the Superbowl four times. . . Brady did it ten times.
ppg game in the playoffs is the most obscure stat to judge the defense. That can be as little as 3 games worth. Not a very high sample size
Its just a statistical way to show that the chiefs defense in mahomes first 5 years was never as good as the pats worst defenses were during their runs, which is true regardless of how you try to show it

@dab4587 they should show for the whole season, my point is its very misleading since the chiefs n 49ers were like 2 n 3 through out the regular season in points allowed but for this very small stretch in the playoffs the niners have allowed way more points then they did the regular season. it's cherry picked data
Brady is the goat. In 15 years we will reavaluate Mahomes to see if he surpasses Tom
Truth. And I'm a KC fan. And no matter where Mahomes ends up with rings and stats, the fact that Brady beat him in a conference championship and a Super Bowl will always weigh in his favor.
He could possibly get 10 rings at this pace
Why does no one bring up the head to head argument? the playoff head to head
The almost matter-of-fact retort in these debates that Brady isn’t as talented as some of the other legends (Manning, Mahomes, Rodgers) is wrong.
He’s almost 6’5, extremely accurate, had a very strong arm (not quite Mahomes, but still very strong with great zip) incredible pocket awareness, and was a great pre and post-snap processor. Is “talent” just arm strength and speed?
How about the psychological talent to be so competitive that you win 7 SBs over 20-odd years with 2 different teams (officially - unofficially, it's debatable how many teams he played with - 5? 6? 7?), several of them at the END of that career. That's a rather unique trait that I seriously doubt Mahomes will ever begin to approach matching.
Facts. And that’s exactly
The problem with people who criticize Purdy. Talent goes beyond just arm strength
Great mental gymnastics by our little Nick
Wrong, he used facts. Brady’s ridiculous defenses, cheating, game manager stuff is a real thing. Mahomes is a better QB and so are some others. Sorry, facts.

Mahomes needs 5 rings to even be in the conversation for the GOAT. Anything below that is absurd. You can’t be the GOAT if you aren’t one of the most dominant QBs in league history.
Define dominant? Was Dan Marino not dominant? Is SB rings the ONLY deciding factor? If so, Charles Haley is the greatest defensive player of all time.
Well Mahomes' dominance isn't at issue. I'd say the biggest issue is that we watched Brady 1) dominate and 2) win with different coaching, different supporting casts, and different levels of talent around him. Mahomes has only done one of those things.
@@ckmoore101 Dominant as in you win a lot for an extended period of time. If Mahomes gets 5 rings that’s not enough to automatically be the GOAT, he would have to dominate Brady in career statistics by a significant margin to be the GOAT.

@@the_cogito5170 No dominance IS an issue. I feel like people don’t have enough perspective here. The GOAT isnt just the best player in the league, he’s the best player of ALL time. Can someone tell nick that comparing the offense of bradys teams in a defensive era with a defensive coach against mahomes in a passing Era with an offensive coach who uses short passes and screens to boost passes rating etc
Old Brady beat Mahomes in the playoffs . If Mahomes had to deal with a prime Belichick and Brady he wouldn’t have any rings.
Prime Brady lost to Eli twice, once with Randy Moss 😢.. Prime Brady and Bill also lost to NICK FOLES 🚮🚮… yea I think chiefs could’ve handled them in their prime 😭
@dpistons149, Good joke. Mahomes and Chiefs beat Brady and Bellichik in regular season. Don't forget that. It's not like Brady and Bellichik won every game.
Joe Burrow also beat him
WELL SAID !!!!!!!!
Prime Brady and Bill were great cheaters 🤭
Why do you not show the clips? I would like to know what these people said.
I'm with the idea that at least 5 needed. But the writing is on the wall. He's the best I've seen too. Ready for the debate about the difference between best and greatest 😂
Marino was better.
Wildes is the best part of this show. Then Brou.
The problem is this. It isn’t like MJ/LeBron where MJ was gone by the time LeBron really started getting going. They actually played each other.
Brady has more rings, all the stats and records, was the first person to play as well and as long as he did, first Super Bowl MVP for 2 different teams, he played in a tougher era, and actually played in Mahomes’ era as well and was his first loss, playoff loss, and Super Bowl loss.
It’s gonna take more than eye test and a few rings to beat that.
Records were meant to be broken, and I’d like to see just how crazy things could get with Mahomes, but losing head to head so many times in the big games is going to matter.
Wildes, your graphics made my day. Love it.
