Just a clarification: It's not unheard of for a random healer to come up and heal an orphan. The LN mentions a healer coming up to heal an orphan and then charging them after the fact, which of course the orphan can't afford so the orphan gets enslaved as a sort of scam that Rudeus has heard of.
Interesting about the kid getting enslaved due to the debt. I didn't pick up on that from my reading but it's a solid point.
honestly if ur an anime only this is acutely a good episode but as a Ln reader I feel like the snow drakes and captured sara part should have been there own separate episodes nun the less mt is still godly
I believe the only issue was that the number of drakes was far too little, they were supposed to get overrun, like a stampede. Also, they forgot to add the bit of trivia about earth level magic used to do the whole place in one go.
The part about the treant was fine, the anime just omits the trivia about the treants being evrywhere and having many variants.
As an anime only my only complaints are that some scenes were super rushed and the cuts felt verx abrupt
The thing about being anime-only is that you get to view the episode objectively instead of nitpicking what was and wasn't skipped from the source material. That being said, even as an anime-only viewer, I definitely had problems with the pacing still. Some scenes just jump cuts without proper context or resolution and I hate that the only way for me to understand what the heck just happened is to read the source material. I'd much rather they skipped those entirely so I can remain oblivious instead of showing me a snippet of it, only to leave me scratching my head afterwards when they just completely move on to a different scene.
The Galgau ruins is a giant expansive fort AND underground, though a lot more dark and cramped than shown in the anime - similar to LOTR's the Mines of Moira.
The encounter with the snow drakes was supposed to look like how the Fellowship of the Ring were escaping Moira while being pursued by a horde of goblins, only here, Counter-Arrow+Rudeus were just in the way of a snow drake stampede escaping.
soldat body movement when he was drunk is really well animated, 10/10 best anime of all time
If they were gonna skip the small girl being healed, they should’ve just taken it out entirely. Or make it a flash back in the later episode when he visits the, uh, professionals who might help him.
It's still wholesome, but did feel like they were just using it to advance Sara's feelings.
@@otakuspirit I think that's the best part. Viewers are expecting that's the main reason as Sara looks on, but will see the real consequences at the professionals scene (if it happens)

This is one of the most joyless review of MT season 2. You focus on what's left out of the anime adaptation, and it seems to me that frustration overshadows your enjoyment of the anime. While I do appreciate the comparison between the LN and the anime, I also want to see the episode being evaluated on its own merits, not how it doesn't measure up to the LN. I am beginning to understand why people say LN readers tend to ruin their anime experience.

I've read the manga-adaptation and this anime-adaptation is better than the manga we've gotten so far. The manga didn't cover any of this stuff we've gotten in season 2 so far.

As someone who read the webnovel I'm discovering this arc for the first time. Kinda glad they decided to shave off screen time on this arc and not the next one.
Random thought : Remember that even if this arc is rushed is still better than how Shield hero rushed his own arc of season 2(just a random thing that popped in my head)
Love this series but this episode was rushed but we have to remember it’s never gonna be a perfect one to one adaptation but I think they more or less got the point across this episode. It would of been nice to see a lot more of the novel adapted. But it’s not surprising they cut back a lot on it
I feel like they kinda felt obliged to cover volume 7 but they dont want to spend alot of time on it.
@@timobrenn I mean tbh it seems the anime only reaction has been positive watching people react to it and what not. Most of the comments are positive too. I think ln readers are a bit annoyed but that’s why I said we can’t get to mad because it’s never gonna be a one to one they will always cut stuff. I just hope they adapt the eris chapters later because I think that’s one thing they need to adapt imo
@@warm4chine755 yeah. i get that, i probably wouldve liked it more if i didnt read the lightnovels. its just a shame because they handeled cour 2 extremely well so i guess i got my expectations too high. Its still great though
True but then again I really don't think vol 7 was that important in the grand scheme of things. Especially since it was written after the original WN as a LN only volume. Been forever since i read vol 7 so i really don't remember too much about the volume overall.
@@lilkhmer5 narratively volume 7 is filler yeah. however it is very important for understanding rudeus as a character so it definitely has its place, especially because mushoku relies so heavily on its in depth characters

Wow, they blew through some good stuff, but I get it. Still a good episode but it could have been 2 great episodes.
Ok, I hate to admit it, but this may be my least favorite episode of the series so far in terms of how it was adapted. Still great by the standards of most anime, but somewhat mediocre by the very high standards of S1…. I understand why they cut certain things, but I think transitions and pacing could’ve been better. I’m REALLY hoping they’re only rushing through this arc so they can take more time at the university
Yes i agree with you . This episode for me tried to do too much and failed on some of the more basic things. For example, the transition between the bar and the guild was terrible, I just hope this is 1 time thing, and that is it

"...arigato.." It could also be a reference to Rudeus' similar ecchi moment with Eris in S1 and he thanked her for the same reason.

While as an anime only ill say i still thoroughly enjoyed this episode, i did feel like the pacing was a bit off this episode compared to others. I have some knowledge of the story/future events from spoilers so i know a bit more than most anime only watchers, so i dont mind them skipping through this part if it means they'll take their time with what comes later. Still top 3 isekai despite the flaws.

I wouldn't mind getting a Sara Arc, that could fill a lot of that missed content. Of course I want arcs on all the side characters and there is a lot of them... I guess that's why we have this channel
The fact that they showed Rudy healing the girl tells me they'll definitely show the [bit with Soldat later on]. I think they'll do all that in the next episode. I think it would be a bit rushed but better to cover it rather than gloss over it like the manga did 🙄

Okay I appreciate hearing more about what happens in the novelization. However the way it was animated I didn't even get the sense that the treant had caused those marks. I'll be honest they freaked me out because they made me wonder if she was cutting. And that her reaction was an embarrassment at that haven't been discovered not that she was not really wearing clothes. And then she goes to reach out to him but we don't see what happens after that to me it seemed like she realized he's not giving up on me because he realizes I have this thing he truly cares. It's Italia possible for anime only viewers to think that this is the first kindness that Sarah has ever had and it could be life-changing. I realize having heard what happens in The Source material that this may not be the ultimate conclusion of many but that's what I took from it and I'm not sure if they intended that

Soldat reminds me of young Paul who has yet to meet Zenith. I believe this encounter with Rudeus and Soldat reminds me of Paul having to sent Rudeus off to get work to pay for himself and Sylphie to go to school.
yes this episode could have been done in two episodes. But honestly, I'd rather have that extra episode spent on the arc after this one. We're not in a perfect world where everything can be adapted perfectly with the right amount of episodes. And frankly if I had to pick an Arc to shave off screen time, it would be this one.
i think the start of Roxyism was at the end of Ep1 when Rudeus said "Master, please guide me" which was his first prayer

Ok buddy, you miss the biggest change: Sara is wearing Rudeus' robes at the end. That's NOT CANON! It's the biggest change from the LN and they better animate Sara returning them or else they're gonna have to show Rudy buying new Robes which again, would not be canon because he tells Sylphie later that he's been wearing the same robes for years. This is a huge issue and I expect them to address it.
Also, @19:30, you mention that Rudeus reason for not joining was "I can't stay in this town." ... that's a legit practical reason but I think it was also more emotional at this point. He's still broken up about Dead End going their separate ways and more so than the logic, he's avoiding the attachment and the pain that might come with it. It's protective more than practical.

I think the reason stuff is being skipped here is because they want to get a little further than where you are right now as of this episode with the novels. Which I honestly hope so because I am excited to see it get animated.
I'm happy for every decision they made this episode. It's not perfect but uf they have to Speedrun one arc, it had to be this one, and for a 3-episode arc this is the best they can do.

Yeah, this was the first episode where I thought all the lower animation standards people have been worried over were very obvious to me. It was sad to see, but I'm still enjoying the show quite a lot and hoping they are saving a lot of animation budget for big episodes this season like turning point 3.
Soldaat means soldier in Dutch, and so I think Soldat means Soldier in German.
I personally think that Vol 7 is the weakest part of the story, but that doesn't necessarily mean I want it to be skipped over, but I can live with it.
I mean, I'd be happier if it was skipped over but it _at least_ looked good, but man... S1 and Onimai spoiled me too much, I'll have to temper my expectations for future Bind shows...
I sorta agree. Vol7 ending almost felt like a reset, but a lot of things are referenced to here from later LNs.

If the pacing and skipping of non essential content means we might get an adaptation all the way to - and including - volume 15, I don't mind the skips.
25 episodes is definitely not enough to get to volume 15. That'd be a disaster
Just playing devil's advocate, while this was my least favorite episode of the adaptation so far, I think it's still doing exactly what it needs to. MT, even in the novel, is all about Rudeus' life. Sure, the novel gives you other people's perspectives every so often, but when doing an adaptation, you need to focus things a lot more, so with everything being about Rudy, the changes made make sense. Plus, without the different perspectives and less inner dialogue, they have to be a bit more blatant in what they're doing with showing specific things(eg, Rudy healing Sara).
Still though, I really hope that once we get into LN8 content, things pick back up to how they were in season 1 with the quality of the adaptation. Sure, LN7 is important to know Rudy's headspace after Eris left, but in the grand scheme of things, it's not SUPER important to the overall narrative
It is true that mushoku is about rudeus' life, but personally the most attractive thing about the story is the worldbuilding, history beyond rudeus, magic system and even many secondary characters are much better than rudeus, eris, silphy and roxy.

@@Ryogasempai Personally, I think they're focusing on the depression just right. Depression isn't just a bionary "on or off" thing. It ebs and flows. So there's the moments where Rudy is very obviously depressed, shrinking into himself, trying to hide from others, and having to force himself to do things some days. He still looks to me very much like someone who is depressed even if he doesn't look like it on the surface.
Before I even read any comments or watch this video, if I remember, Rudeus can do healing magic but only by using incantations. This episode made it look like he was doing incantation-less healing magic.
It was made pretty clear the drakes were running from Soldat's party. At least it was implied heavily. Also, this was a surprise, but what about the animation was "not that great"?
People might want the show to slow down and adapt more material, but it's probably just gonna keep speeding along. The season 2 trailer already shows what's gonna be covered, and if you know then you know.
At face value, you're right but this was a good episode. The writers were showing not telling which is the my biggest complaint with these chapters in the light novel. This actually improved the source material in my opinion
As an anime only watcher I dont care at all about the things they skipped, after the first episode i actually looked up the chapters of the LN volune to see how long it would take to get past this arc thats how little i cared about it.
i understand how you feel, but it is not so much of how it was skipped it is about how much better and impactful they could have made moments, and details being changed or skipped that made epic and char defining moments just meh, you miss out big time if you dont read the manga seperate arc with counter arrow, if not for the skipped content to get the epic moments and full story
I personally think that we can expect a little glowup once we are through volume 7. (In both quality and pacing) They kinda skip to it in every available medium besides the light novel. It wasnt even in the Web novel. But it could also stay like the current which wouldnt really bother me, but it would be a bit sad.
I'm really wondering how they're going to handle the scene you're referring when you talk about the girl he healed. Without that whole escapade, idk how they're going to delve into what's "missing". Gotta admit, whoever changed hands to deciding what they keep accurate to the LNs has been disappointing IMO. Lot of missed context and changed nuances.
If they do include it, they may just take the orphans out of the bath, or cut it from global. But my prediction is that they cut from Soldat fight, to them making up, then cut to them drunkly walking down the street before running into Sara.
At this point people who are claiming that this was a good episode or atleast close to being a good episode are either delusional or just don't have a good taste with no knowledge of what a good direction looks like.
Look they may have skipped content but at least we got something. The manga just skipped that whole arc for the most part

Not even 10 seconds after I finished watching the episode, I got the YT notification of this video. Timing at its best. :p
Anyway, one of the disadvantages of watching your Mushoku Mondays is that I can now notice how they've been rushing/skipping a lot of content. That being said, the advantage of getting the characters' perspectives - and yours too - far outweigh this disadvantage. I didn't know this season would cover up to volume 12, so now I know for sure this will be rushed, given the staggering amount of content that the LN has. Hopefully, they'll only rush this part with Counter Arrow and dig deeper later on. Guess we'll see.
To be clear, the idea of it covering up to 12 is speculation by the community. Not a confirmed thing by the staff. Early PVs have at least shown up to then, and Season 1 covered 6 volumes.
For me Soldat behavior is inexcusable, I said it in the novel part. We have Always an excuse for this kind of characters, about his past or intentions. If Rudeus had reacted violently in the future thinking him as a threat, or if he was affected for the bullying and he was more depressed, or reacted going more reckless and killed in action etc... He had good intentions is only ok when all work well, he was aggravating the problem in almost all the situations. I won't agree ever with this kind of characters. I'll die in this hill :P .
This new season is strange.
I know nothing about the original story, but it's very evident that the episodes are butchered to the point of feeling incomplete. Like episode 0 more than one time in this episode I felt like scenes were missing. Everything happened very fast and disconnected, and at the end, what was the conflict that was resolved again? This episode didn't expressed well what was Rudeus's conflict and how he overcame it.
Maybe it's the best decision they could made if they have so plan to who to adapt the story, but individually the episodes are hurt.
Besides this... supposedly the character grew up, matured, "improved", but the episode still ends with him adoring a panty on a literal altar, ws, gfy, ridiculous.

I love the light novels, but now the anime feel weird because a lot of things aren't like I imagined them when I was reading them, and the pacing feels wrong. I wonder if the things that bother me now would bother me if I hadn't read the novels.
