I loved how quick Soldat moved to prevent his suicide, that speed and reaction was one of the best moments in this show so far.
That's what you can expect to see from an S-tanked swordman adventurer in the MT universe.
I mean, in previous life he was bullied with nickname "limp dick" Don't you think that would add some salt to his wounds?
Oddly enough, this was never mentioned in the novels. Good point though.
@@otakuspirit i don't think it needs to be mentioned, given that it's one of those insults that are in the back of your head and never surfaces to the forefront, it's that it sticks with me and it affects me but i don't even realize.
really is ment for the reader and the viewers to remember on their own and apply it to the situation as they see fit.
Imagine how much worse Sara would feel if Soldat wasn't there to stop Rudy from ending his life.
I really wish she knows, she is all about her own feeling, I hope she gets mature in time and at least be a decent companion.

That quick suicide attempt with the knife was pretty crazy, I didn't remember it from the LN and it caught me off guard. But it makes sense

This episode nailed it for me, and was everything I wanted from the anime adaptaion. The VAs especially did a fantastic job, and overall the episode hit me like truck-kun. I especially liked the touch with Sara throwing the knifde they bought together in their "silly little date" back at him, and that being the instrument of Rudy trying to end himself. Thank the goddess for best girl Soldat being there to save the day. Overall it gave me chills. So happy!
I do really wish they would show Sara perspective after she finding out his problem then find out he's already gone and cry in her room.
Yeah, some kind of closure would have been nice. Feels sad to have her left on such a nasty note.

I respect this episode so much for going here. It's amazing to me how this isekai can be so real.
ED definitely is something that is usually shied away from, because it's seen as inappropriate or ridiculous. But its extremely messed up that something that is a real issue for a lot of men is treated as a joke, or something you shouldn't talk about because its seen as the mental health equivalent of potty humor.
But mental health isn't a joke, nor is sexuality, and this is not something that should not be respected as a subject, it's brave.
And I think this episode did a great job showing it in a realistic and sympathetic way. Rudy didn't "fail" because he's not enough of a man, but because he essentially wasn't comfortable. Men can't perform when they're "not feeling it", just like women. And it shouldn't be expected of them to, that expectation is dangerous. You wouldn't judge a man for not getting it up when he's in bed with a fever, you wouldn't even call it ED, so why would you expect him to perform when his mind not in a good place? A sick person should focus on getting better, you shouldn't judge someone for being sick. ED is when someone can't get it up even if there is nothing wrong with them....When you are suffering there is definitely something wrong with you.
But this episode is also important for woman, for many reasons. 1: To learn that it's extremely NOT cool to judge men on this, because it does real damage and is completely unfair to them and will make it worse. 2: To learn that it's usually not because the man doesn't find them attractive. 3: To learn why stuff like this can happen, so you can make sure you can help your partner if he goes through something like this, and to learn what the right response is. 4: To learn that men do actually go through stuff, and it can really harm us, and how we deal with it.
Rudeus' drunken rant was really good, because this too was realistic, I think we all understand that he didn't mean that, that it was a coping mechanism, that it was him trying to convince himself it didn't matter in the hopes that his feelings wouldn't overwhelm him. It was venting, and that's needed at times. You shouldn't bottle up feelings, saying stuff like that is cleansing. But yeah, the people in question shouldn't hear it, because while the words might sound harsh, they're usually not true, but still need to be said to make you feel better. That rant wasn't about Sara, it was about Rudeus, and Sara shouldn't have heard it.
This episode really cemented for me that Rudeus is the greatest anime protagonist I know.
I really do like that this writer isn't afraid to get into taboo or shy-away from subjects. ED is a real mental destroyer, especially for someone still in their youth (in case of physically)
I'm so happy with this episode I expected a lot of these scenes to get skipped or heavily censored, but everything of importance made it in.
Great episode. Very dark and sad that he leaves things with Sara on such bad terms, but done very well. And, of course, the return of everyone's favorite tall blonde elf.

I realized afterward that when sara heard rudy saying all that stuff in the street, he essentially made her think he couldn't get there because of her being ugly or something. Which is why she ended up so angry.
Sadly the harsh mistakes that surround Rudeus!
I feel like this episode really cleared up so many complaints from the last few episodes. Sincerely hoping that people stop complaining so much about the adaptation now since its just that, an adaptation. We now understand Rudeus and everything hes been going through that people were complaining was skipped. They just kept it back to drive home an emotional moment in the anime.
while I felt every episode in the season so far is good, this is the first episode that I don't have any nitpicks with.
I'm not nitpicky on Ep.2 because they skipped parts of the novel I wanted to see, but because they tried to bite nore than they could chew which led to every scene except the Soldat one being rushed.
Your video the other day about the lowered quality in S2 made me order the light novels finally because I was afraid to see the show dip so much.
Glad to see your reaction to this episode was as glowing as mine was. I loved the episode so much and it made me think about how so many human problems are caused by poor communication. Even a fight I had with a loved one the other day was caused by a misunderstanding, and are really driven by emotions each person has about themselves. Part of what makes MT succeed so much is how realistic the characters feel, and that was portrayed best in this episode for the season so far.
I like hearing the more specific details of the story. It's a lot quicker to just listen to a 20 minute video than doing my own research.

Yes and no. That is definitely a part of it, but he has "accepted" that shes gone and that ship sailed.
It's the trauma from that experience that is holding him back.
Trust me, from an experience nearly identical to Rudy's, it fucks you up something fierce.
She made things completely great and then just vanishing it entirely breaks you. It doesn't matter how "horny" you get or even if you fall in love with someone new for over 5 years, that trauma doesn't go away and makes things EXTREMELY difficult for you.
Hell, I even had girl 1 come back after the 5 years of girl two ended and STILL was broken.
If it was only my unrequited love for her holding me back I would have been just fine as soon as she returned, which was definitely not the case. It took months of working together to figure out what works for me and how to work THROUGH that trauma to get things to a point that I am OK.
Granted, she vanished into thin air yet again and I am 100X worse than before now, but point is, love isn't the main factor it definitely is an influence but when you are broken like that, absolutely shattered, it's extremely difficult to pick up the pieces let alone get to the level you were before.
This ep was very good, well adapted. The black bar censor is ridiculous

Episodes like the last one gave me apprehension, but episodes like this give me faith in studio bind. I'm still going to be optimistic that there's more great episodes than poorly adapted ones.
yeah, episode 3 was very good. To be honest I feel a little bit relieved we are done with volume 7 in a way... Mushoku must come strong now.
Even though parts of this volume are talked about later on, Sara is a completely light novel original character. She does not exist as part of Counter Arrow in the web novel

I been marathoning these context vids after watching the second season and it's pretty helpful filling in gaps in the world that are nice to know as context. Obviously the novels are going to have more inner dialogue which can't really be covered in the anime, but a lot of the same feelings can be kinda gleaned from the visuals. The skipped content on the other hand is just super nice to know as the anime seems to be taking a much more focused approach to the story than the novels
Interesting on the more-book-accurate Elinalise design. I'm wondering if the season-1 character designers thought she was a less significant character than she turns out to be.

A lot of details to animate
There's so much to love about this series but the depth of character development and personality each character has is truly next level. Most of the haters brush this series off because of its "child or pedo" aspects. And even that aspect is necessarily part of Rudeus changing out of his degenerate self to a mature dignified good person. Also the whole idea that 16 year olds is pedo is wrong, especially since the idea of an adult is a cultural suggestion and not a physicality one. It's all about virtue signaling at this point, not the factual reasons as to why and what.

As a anime-only, I probably would’ve felt Rudeus’ struggles alot more if they didn’t try to cram this in 3eps.
Sara’s switchup was so abrupt it made me care less for her character, and so far the layouts have been pretty flatout generic.

They did mention Soldat's party name when they were in the guild hall grabbing quest to go clear the cave of snow drakes when Rudy was walking in at the start of Episode 2. I don't know if they ever say he's S rank. I did like the pacing of Episode 3 better than Episode 2.

This scene on the LN broke my heart, but in the anime I get the feeling Sara didn't sell her "disapointment with Rudeus" as much as in the LN, in the LN I really thought she was a huge bitch leaving like she did until we got her PoV, but in the anime it was clear Yandere Talk trying to save face. Anyways. 9,5/10 episode for sure, I hoped we get to see how Rudeus got to singlehandedly defeat the red dragon but oh well.

I dont think LN7 is worthless at all. It makes the time skip much less obnoxious, makes future scenes more important, and explains his issues he'll have moving forward when he runs into someone. Not to mention the novel by itself is one of the best in the series, even if its one of the least impactful to the story as a whole, which is why they felt the need to put it in but rush through it.

It's just full on nudity that isn't even allowed on JP television in that slot. It's presumably when Sara got up to get dressed. Sadly, sometimes it's just to sell blu-rays.

I don't believe so, because they adapted Elinalise's scene which comes after. Also, we never got Eris's perspective from Volume 6. They've always kept it pretty strict to Rudeus's perspective and rarely showing others'.

@@thatsalehart7459 In Volume 6 there was a segment where it followed Eris's story from her upbringing, to meeting rudeus, journeying with him, and parting ways. It was sadly not included in late Season 1 and gives massive context to who she is as a person, how she viewed rudeus, and why she parted ways with him.

Thanks for the answer , btw if they don't show the counter arrow POV after the slap the reunion with rudeus won't be making sense(by what they showed in the anime sara now basically despise rudy, but we know that after the confront with Elise she understand the situation and felt sorry for not having the chance to apologise)

Yes, just doesn't know where she's at. At the refugee camp, the billboard signified her being found alive. The camp, however, doesn't know anything about her whereabouts. Assumedly because they are keeping Fitz's identity a secret.

What Sara said as she left the room gives me the impression that is what anime otaku thinks women think.
This may be a nice series, there's still this flaw of being written by a japanese otaku, so there's som strange logic, some annoying character behaviors. And how this particular situation developed left me disappointed, the author resorted to dumb misunderstanding to create drama and ended with "bros before hoes".
This Sara is a bad character IMO.
Bad because she is less a character and more the walking stereotype of the grating tsundere, and in this episode she managed to be even more incoherent. She didn't wanted to "payback" Rudeus for having saved her life, that was just an excuse, right? She got interested in him and wanted sex, but being that the case why did when left the room in that manner, saying that? Didn't made any sense for her to react that way, felt forced only to unsettle Rudeus e separate him from the group with the misunderstanding later.
For now this season isn't being good at all, a disappointment after the surprise that was the first season.
Think you're issue isn't so much the writer, but the adaptation. Sara tried many things to get rudeus's "excited", but all of them failed. She thought he wasn't interested in her body, despite thinking they had a thing. The comment as she left was feeling massively embarrassed that he didn't want her body. Nothing Tsundere about it, just simply feeling unattractive and at the same time inexperienced. She put herself out there, and in the end felt insulted.

I know over arching parts of the story as i read the redit file that summarize the story. But this part is bad and doesn't make sense. It just shows that the girl is a bich and bad. She had no right to do that at frist time and disrespect him that way and to be angry. There is 0 manners and virtue ethics presented and that she only cares about his horse. There is lecturely little difference between her and an escort/prostitute at this point. He f saved her life in a very dangerous situation risked his own in prossess so hard more than her own party where he could have died too trying to save her in the hurricane of winter during the night. It happens sometimes you got to try something/ next time. She can leave him but where is the mutual respect and gratitude at minimum. What he did to her without asking her to pay back in anyway can't be countified by the entire world money. He lecturely not casually dangerously saved her life. Also not to mention she rushed him and asked for it. She is the one down bad and she did like him.
But na she left him dunped him hard and with disrespect forgetting everything as if he did absolutely nothing to her despite he lecturely fall from haven to save her ass.
