Just heard the absolutely horrible, devastating news that our beloved Guitar Genius Eddie Van Halen has passed. We can't contain our tears, such an incredible Artist. He gave my son one of his guitars, it reads ‘To Charlie!! Play It Loud & Drive Your Dad Crazy’. An amazing talent who shaped music forever. R.I.P. Eddie Van Halen. Our prayers are with your family.

I love the story Eddie told about being in a record store and Beat It came on and two kids were saying listen to this guy trying to sound like Eddie van Halen, and he tapped them on the shoulder and said "it is me." Classic Eddie.
Darlene Sheffield have to assume the worst don’t ya? Seemed like a genuine enough reaction to me, and it was nice to hear some stories of him growing up around it.

Yup, who cares about his tapping. His riffing was incredible because of his brother. This guy is saying Eddie took tapping to another level beyond Allan Holdsworth. Wtf?
I was a sophomore in high school when the debut came out. Had a bunch of friends that were into music. I mentioned to one of them that I heard this new band called Van Halen. He asked what do they sound like. I said like nothing you’ve ever heard before. Still is. RIP Ed.
R.I.P Eddie Van Halen one of the best Guitarists we have ever seen if not the best. You will never be forgetten my friend. Van Halen is one of my favorite bands. How could this year get any worse.
THiS Great video had me in tears! Extremely heartfelt & complete. Thank you and Jamie for your work and efforts. At 14 yrs old i rode 30 miles to buy the 1st album on my pushbike, 43 yrs later i still think of Eddie van Halen beginning Eruption when i get on any bike. I cried all day when he died. He changed many lives forever and not just the Musoes.
I was all set to write a comment about what an OUTSTANDING video this is, and I read the news. Warren and Jamie you made the video I have had in my head for years about what needed to be said about Eddie and how he changed everything regarding guitars. I knew this day would come one day in my lifetime ('cos I'm 49) but this is a sad, sad moment. I LOVE EDDIE VAN HALEN - RIP you crazy, crazy dude!
In late '77 we saw Black Sabbath and the opening act was Van Halen. Eddie's playing just knocked me over, it was like an alien had landed. When Sabbath came on, the audience was not having any of Ozzy's drunk shenanigans and piled the chairs in front of the stage and walked off. I ran home and got the first record and my life has never been the same. Eddie made all of the guitarists of the day rethink their approach to guitar playing and the race was on. NO guitar player since then has done half as much for the instrument. And now just one day later, he's gone. RIP
I also saw them open for Black Sabbath at The Bayfront Center in St Petersburg, FL. . Van Halen blew the roof off the place, just incredible. Black Sabbath came out and was the worst band I've ever seen. They were tuning their guitars during the show for like 20 minutes. Polar opposites. RIP EVH.
Someone on here mentioned the Black Sabbath show. Yep I was in high school saw Black Sabbath at Richfield coliseum / opening band Van Halen. I just started playing guitar. Thanks to Angus. Then I saw the opening band for black sabbath . I couldn’t speak for an hour. Mind blown away. Next day was at music store trying to buy a black and white striped guitar. Salesman had no clue what I was describing. I was describing the future. Awesome episode btw Warren !

Its amazing how so many extremely talented guitarists still miss the nuances of Eddie's playing when copying him. The "I'm the one" tutorial in this video completely misses the whole swing feel of the song. How can you get all those notes right, get so many of the riff parts right, but still miss this? Its the most important part. Its the whole feel of the song.
Eddie's influence is incalculable - truly sad to hear of his passing (especially after watching this wonderful reminder of his greatness). RIP Eddie - never equalled 🔥
I don’t see it as a loss. He left us with a legacy of great music, concert memories and great gear to enjoy for the rest of our lives and now he’s free from his body which no longer served him. Thank you so much Eddie and thank you Warren for posting this video yesterday - your timing was impeccable.
I saw this video yesterday and I loved every minute of it. I cheered out loud! Today I'm watching it with tears. We will miss you Eddie, what's more we will never forget you.

Marvelous tribute and mind-blowing tutorial. I played a little bit of Eddie when my son Gabe and nephew Chad were teenagers trying to learn his stuff, mostly the rhythm parts. The leads were so far away from my style that I didn't even try. But, Gabe could play Eruption! Eddie went to places where most buses don't run. He was as unique and influential as any musician in any genre ever! Thanks for sharing a bit a his history and music!
Ground breaking guitar solos and techniques, amazing rhythm playing, multi instrumentalist, great backup vocals, showmanship.......Eddie Van Halen had it all. EVH’s guitar playing is legendary and will live on forever. RIP Guitar God.

I don’t really play that style of music anymore but when I hear one of their songs or plug into my 5150 it just puts a crazy, unbreakable smile on my face. God bless that guitar god.

Eddie's rhythm playing and specially his PHRASING AND SWING are absolutely unmatched when you compare him to his contemporaries. I mean, when you hear a solo like the one one Bottom's Up, it's clear he focused on his phrasing as much as the flashy technical stuff when he was wood shedding. Love Ed.
Yes yes yes! His outrageously superb rhythm playing isn't talked about enough. Phrasing and swing indeed, so punchy, fluid and inventive along with that tone of the Gods=unmatched!
Been trying to tell ppl that for years! Lead playing and phrasing from another universe AND rhytmn playing from the grooviest-in-the-pocket place which cannot be earthly. Dear God!!! Try to replicate his groove like on So This Is Love...many have come close..but NONE have matched it.
@David Cavalier Completely on point, there are places in the solo from "House of Pain" that are like Coltrane, very horn-like. I like the solo on "Somebody Get Me a Doctor", too, funky funky swingin', shaken not stirred!
I'm grateful you published this the day before his passing. Such an amazing tribute, never intended to be in memorial, yet the perfect memorial giving EVH the in-depth honors and admiration he deserves. Thank you this is my new favorite channel.
Thanks for a great video Warren and Jamie. I’ve known Jamie a very long time and he is perfect for this video and what an amazing job he did. Thanks guys. Eddie Van Halen will never be bettered in this century in his field, of that I am certain. RIP EVH 😞
Eddie was the first guitarist I saw at my first concert Sabbath w,VH in 1978 when i was a teen. Changed my life forever....became part of the literal fabric of my life. What a genius and once in a lifetime musician. To learn and copy from is great but can never compare that to the inventer and nobody could ever do it as effortless and in the way Eddie did, magic!
Listened to a few songs on my home from work. I was tearing up and smiling at the same time. Eddie’s playing was a major part of my life growing up. 1990 or ‘91 was when I first heard Van Halen, 12 or 13 years old. I was hooked and still am and always will be. Thank you Eddie for bringing some fuckin crazy, amazing, unforgettable music not just in my life. But to the world! You’ll be truly be missed. 🤟🏼
I really love these stories of EVH's growth and how he changed the musical landscape (and created a whole new generation of musicians to boot)! Thanks for putting this together. My mind was blown away for months after hearing him initially - was unlike anything I heard sonically/musically.
Jamie is an awesome player also. There will never be another Eddie Van Halen, He changed the way folks play guitar. It just sucks so bad he is gone but he will never be forgotten..R.I.P and God Bless to the Mighty Van Halen.
I was at the Cleveland show on their first tour to America. It started with Eddie running out on stage riffing. I had never seen/heard anything like it. I was so dumb founded that I actually said to the guy next to me, "He's actually playing that! Everyone was stunned by the new way to play the guitar. It was like seeing history in the making.
The timing of this video, the timing of recent reminiscing about my days first starting on guitar to "live without a net" and watching Eddie incessantly every day while I picked up my passion....It all hurts a lot but seeing how much he meant to everyone is beautiful. A legend, and a hero of ours. Eddie Van Halen
To understand the influence of EVH on guitar you have to look no further than the fact that after more than 40 years, guitarists the world over are still analyzing his innovative techniques.
Hey. this comment is for Warrent, and jamie. Warrent i liked how you hosted and reported on Eddie, and a gave the full picture of his musical uniqueness, life, music and achievements all along his way! And Jamie, i thought your playing and sound was really very good too! ( wanted to mention though, that Eddie did not read music, know theory, or know scales, chords, or modes at all!! and infact played everything by ear! ) Great job and great tribute! Thank you ~ Cheers!
I think many insiders have heard his health was deteriorating or something, because I've stumbled upon a couple new EVH videos just the day before he passed away
RODRIGO ODÓN SALCEDO CISNEROS yeah he was sick with cancer so his time was coming. But damn to actually hear the news and for it to finally be true is sad
Great tribute to my favorite band growing up as a musician. I was constantly mesmerized by all of them as I watched both Live Without a Net and Live, Right Here Right Now probably hundreds of times. Thanks Warren!!
Some people play guitar but very few can reinvent and revolutionize the way EVH did! What a contribution, inspiration and influential pioneer to the world of guitar and music! Thank you Edward Lodewijk VAN HALEN 01/26/55-10/06/2020 RIP LEGEND
The thing I remember the most about Eddie Van Halen was his humility. In an interview, he admitted that Alan Holdsworth was the best guitar player of all, and then went on to help him sign with Warner Brothers for the IOU album, thus lifting Holdsworth out of obscurity. I will always remember this! Thank you, EVH, I salute you my brother!
Did you seriously post this just before his passing? Wow very fitting and amazing tribute as others have said. RIP EVH, I have always loved guitar because of you, and your tone is thing of legends!
I love that you've done this. Van Halen is the perfect musician for you to absolutely smother with respect. We'll all be very fortunate if anything that groundbreaking and influential ever happens again.
This was a truly excellent vid. I'm not into the band, nor Eddie, and never really have been, however, the playing and sound in this video were absolutely beautiful - so much so that I nearly cried (literally) when listening to the 'Jump' solo where the ascending half/whole tone scale finally resolved. It is melodically and harmonically perfect and gives the listener such strong positive feelings and is almost life affirming in it's phrasing.
im glad to have been alive during Eddies life to experience his always happy way of presenting his skills to the world very nice tribute to a legend in his field cheers Warren
I was over at a buddy's place and he said to me "Sit down! Listen to this!" and played "Eruption" on his stereo for me and his neighbors. All I could say was "play it again!" o_0 Life was never the same again! Buy Alex on drums deserves some credit as well as daddy Jan Van Halen the jazz musician. Both made little brother Eddie better one way or the other I'm sure. And yeah his rhythm playing is underappreciated and his weirdass ideas for what to play for rhythm guitar parts , like in "Bottoms up". It's just a dunt dunt dunt dunt dunt dunt DUUUNT with some syncopation adjustments and on paper it's totally stupid but he turns it around into this amazing cascade of energy! Who does that? EVH does that! :D

Sorry produced by a pro most they say that changed music ridiculous statement so many artist have been credited 4 that
Eddie a true innovator, genius and legend.
RIP
Agreed 100%!
Wow, he just passed away. What a time for this video to come out. Rest in Peace Eddie
EVH was the first guitarist, whose name I knew. And 1984 was among the first albums I bought as a teenager. Thank you for those video! Love it!
Thanks ever so much Jürgen!
Hey. this comment is for Warrent, and jamie.
That’s crazy that you just posted this yesterday, and today Eddie Van Halen passed away
RIP to one of the greatest guitarists in rock
I think many insiders have heard his health was deteriorating or something, because I've stumbled upon a couple new EVH videos just the day before he passed away
RODRIGO ODÓN SALCEDO CISNEROS yeah he was sick with cancer so his time was coming. But damn to actually hear the news and for it to finally be true is sad
Thanks for this tribute! RIP Eddie, you'll be always in my soul!!!
Marvellous tribute to the greatest rock guitarist EVER, Edward Van Halen!!!! Thank you all loads for the incredible video!! God bless you!
Thanks ever so much!
Great tribute to my favorite band growing up as a musician. I was constantly mesmerized by all of them as I watched both Live Without a Net and Live, Right Here Right Now probably hundreds of times. Thanks Warren!!
Honestly? I don't think anyone can describe the influence Eddie had on music. It's just so vast.
Agreed! Huge
Rest in piece to an absolute legend. I grew up to his music and listen to him regularly. His soul will live on for eternity through his music!
RIP Ed This cuts deep
Terrible loss
He took the guitar beyond its limits!!!He changed the way we understand the instrument forever!!! The greatest!!!
How different Music would've been if Alex hadn't arrived home early that "infamous" day and started playing on Eddie's drum kit! : )
I haven't followed Van Halen closely enough to know the story and I can't find it now searching for it. Mind sharing?
@Randy Rodes Ah ok. I didn't know what to search for to find it. Thanks!
Loved this video! Eddie left an amazing legacy for so many people. RIP EVH!
I agree, a true Master!
Eddie is beyond amazing! Beyond, beyond amazing and so is this channel. Thank you Warren⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️
Wow!! Thanks ever so much my friend!!
That timing is eerie.
And now Eddie is on the next stage, thanks for your music and inventions Edward Van Halen!
Wow, Warren. You posted this the day before Ed passed. What a legend. Thank you for this. His legend lives on! Thanks for everything EVH, RIP.
RIP Eddie and thank you for all the years of great music. You will be missed.
rest in piece, my dad would always play this man when i was little, he was my childhood rock band.
Wow! Thanks ever so much for that wonderful comment! Yes, Jamie is fantastic
The man was an absolute legend. One of the all time greats. R.I.P. Eddie. You will be sadly missed but never forgotten.
I remember back in the day ALL musicians be it classical, jazzers, country players taking notice. No one could do what he was doing.
This documentary you have made is fantastic, talks about album, tone, guitar, amps, songwriting, inventions. 🤘👍
Artists are the Ultimate Immortals....Their Work Lives On...and Beyond...Themselves. Rock in Peace Eddie.
Well said!
Thank you so much for this amazing production Warren!
Thanks ever so much
R.I.P. Eddie. Heard it right after watching this. At loss for words.
im glad to have been alive during Eddies life to experience his always happy way of presenting his skills to the world
very nice tribute to a legend in his field cheers Warren
Thanks ever so much
I was over at a buddy's place and he said to me "Sit down! Listen to this!" and played "Eruption" on his stereo for me and his neighbors. All I could say was "play it again!" o_0
Life was never the same again! :D
That was yesterday. Now one day later it's all over. Death sooths all pain.
EVH 1955-2020 Thanks for everything.
I'm just empty.
@@pinkponyofprey1965 I was reading the comments made yesterday by the obviously unaware, and to see if any of you would come back on this video. Now that i found a reply, I am not to sure i wanted this feeling. RIP EVH
I knew guys who literally gave up the guitar after hearing "Eruption," like, "I'll *never* be able to do that and there's just no more point to doing this any more."
My ears are injected by rock since my teen years and I still at 58 loves all “my” legendary guitarists, those alive and those in rock heaven...RIP Eddie, my teen cross, you are an Ikon for your style. Condolences and Love from a Danish Rock’Chick.. 😭❤️😭
30 minutes about Eddie Van Halen ? THANK YOU 🤘Is there a better way to start the new Week ? 😀
Thanks ever so much Ady!!
@rat dick mafia Excactly my thoughts...
RIP EVH any kid who aspired to play guitar in a rock band in the late 70s/early 80s could not help but be inspired by you, your music and your insane talent
Damn, this was released yesterday? RIP to one of the greats.
