only money money., and then all converted into business., that is y., old age home etc etc.
i dont need any of these., peaceful poor life is enough., and with families or bachelor to stay in mutts.

Of all the comments that I read here, yours touched my heart. In 1976 my cousin was in the Airforce. We met on Sundays for the simple joy of matinee shows and samosas at India Coffee House. One such weekend we ordered a pair of square toed Cheshire boots from the cobblers along the Tambaram Railway station wall. They lasted for years..till 1979 when I left my beloved homeland for greener pastures. When I got back to Chennai for good in 2011 I went to Tambaram and almost passed out in shock.

Yesterday I went to Chennai(after a gap of 18 years) on an official visit to Infosys and took chengalpattu train. Was waiting to see Palavanthangal station (as a child loved visiting my grandma as she had a big independent house then with backyard etc.. would run to her home in Raja street all by myself) was shocked to see the new avatar of that place and as the train kept going, pallavaram was yet another shock..(worked at TTK health care in 2000) further stations like chrompet,/tambaram/ ullagaram etc..all look so cluttered with buildings and commercial complex.. hardly I could see a patch of greenery.. heart is aching. Where is my beautiful Madras?

The Madras I remember !!! I was born in Anna Nagar in a small nursing home. 40 ps bus ticket from AnnaNagar to Kilpauk. 7c bus is what I knew back then. Back then I was 5 yrs old and clearly remember after Anna Nagar Roundtana the place will look like a haunted desert . No lights only tress both sides of the road. No auto will come if it is Anna Nagar after 6 pm. If it rains forget even buses! Those frogs croak all night during rains. Such a peace.

Even in 1990's maximum transport in madras was auto, rickshaw. Not much two wheelers and four wheelers. Wondering abt those days
