    Loved your video, Lois! Thank you so much. I've just done my first eco printing experiment - haven't yet unwrapped my bundles, but very excited to see how they will turn out.

    Resultaria lo mismo si hubieses puesto las verduras secas?

      Probablemente. El color podría incluso estar más concentrado.

    I watched with initial interest in dyeing silk, and your results were exciting. I learned from you about the alum mordant, and caught in the comments the use of vinegar in the steaming. Please explain the Synthrapol and iron stage. I don't know about this at all. Thank you so much. As others expressed, your manner and style of presentation is so naturally interesting. Nice job! Best to you!

      Hi Rosa. Some people use iron acetate for their Eco printing, but I don't know anything about that. You'd need to research that method. My method uses the alum mordant. The Synthrapol is a commercially available fabric detergent that is useful for removing excess dye from silk and for cleaning fabrics of residue so that they receive dye properly. All are available through www.dharmatrading.com. Love them! Get all my silk supplies through them, and I get no kickbacks, just good service.

    Hello
    I am not sure if I missed it, but what is the mixture in the cooking part? TY

      I steam the silk in a pressure steamer. Just about an inch of water with 1/4 cup of white vinegar for acidity. For instructions on steam/fixing silk, try this video: th-cam.com/video/U8UyIHdQnTw/w-d-xo.html

    What do you mean by pressure steamer pls?

    • @lotusleestudios
      @lotusleestudios  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Deborah. If you refer to the following video regarding stream fixing in a pressure cooker, I think it will answer your questions. This is not my method. It's something I picked up off of a TH-cam video.

      I believe Husna Rafath should be credited with this, unless she learned it from someone else.

    Do you use a dye fixative?

    • @lotusleestudios
      @lotusleestudios  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. I use jacquard green label dyes. I steam fix but then soak in dye set concentrate also. This is just my way of doing it that works for me. Also in this video, I explain why I use green label and not red.

      This is the same video I recommended in your other question, but I also discuss the dye set concentrate. Happy silk painting.

    Hi Lois
    I loved your video! I was wondering if you could tell me where can I buy the scarves to make the eco print on. I already looked on that company you bought the Alum, but if you have more places to tell me, please let me know. I also would like to know about the Alum. Where can I buy by personally not virtually. Thank you so much.

      Hi Luciana. I get all my silk supplies from www.dharmatrading.com. Here is the link for the silk "blanks" they have available. Although I've found blanks at other stores, they do not compare with dharma in terms of quality. If you are not in the US, there are Chinese and Thai suppliers that may have it as well. www.dharmatrading.com/scarves/silk/silk-scarves-and-veils.html?lnav=scarves.html

      I am in Dallas. I saw a scarf made by bamboo rayon fiber do you think it’s a natural? I have hard time to explain to people what I am looking for... I mean I want something natural like 100% cotton, but more light or soft like silk... TY 💜🙏

    • @lotusleestudios
      @lotusleestudios  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lucianazysko9828 A bamboo/rayon fiber would be considered a blend, part natural bamboo, part synthetic rayon. I know very little about dyeing fabrics other than 100% silk and 100% cotton. There is a science to dyeing, which goes beyond the type of dyes you use. You must consider the method of dyeing. If you would like to dye cotton, you will need to use soda ash fixative and a caustic-based dye versus silk, which requires acid/based (hence the vinegar.) Unfortunately, I can't help you with a bricks and mortar shop in the Dallas area for blanks. You might try a high-end professional artist's store. Sometimes the have silk blanks there.

    How do you keep the scarf from fading the colors off...thankyou!

    • @lotusleestudios
      @lotusleestudios  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Silk dyes will fade in the sunlight. This is why you don't want to hang silk under a direct light of any kind. The reason why we steam fix in the pressure steamer and add vinegar is to chemically set the dyes. That way, your dyes will not wash out with successive washings. Soaking the silk in alum mordant helps make the silk ready to take on the dyes.

      @@lotusleestudios You inspired me! Thankyou so much! I will try this soon! Keep healthy out there!!

    • @lotusleestudios

      Hi Nancy. That is a good question. I would imagine that, like silk dyes, these colors will fade with sunlight. It is best to store silk scarves away from sunlight. But silk needs to breathe from time to time, so you should not store scarves in an airtight container. Away from sunlight is key!
