3:50 , actually means "you have me" it's a play on words , since it's spelled as Hast with only one S, it's have.
The lyricist from Rammstein likes to do this from time to time

Because of the way the German language constructs sentences and the sound of the word 'hast', it actually has two possible meanings until you get to the fourth word. 'Du hast mich' as a sentence means "You hate me". 'Du hast mich gefragt' means "You have asked me". The entire line is 'Du hast mich gefragt, und ich hab nicht gesagt" = "You have asked me, and I have said nothing".

Haben vs Hassen. Have and Hate. The difference is the double s. Du hast vs du hasst.
      Funny how German works.
Just as funny... To the German language, a boy is a he, but a girl is an it.

"Du hast mich." sounds like "Du hasst mich." The latter means "You hate me.". The former means "You have me." And is the beginning of the sentence "Du hast mich gefragt." which means "You have asked me."
The lyrics of the verse are a typical marriage vow. The female voice sings "Yes." Then til shouts "No."
The german word for battering ram is Rammbock. There's also a US military base in Ramstein/Germany. The band added the second M to get the ramming/battering meaning in there.

    • @RandomPerson-yq1qk
      @RandomPerson-yq1qk 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Actually the band just didn't know that Ramstein was actually just written with one "m". Maybe they would have still chosen 2 "m"s, but the reason they are spelled with 2 is that they didn't know better.

The whole song is basically a wordplay between the 2nd person singular of the two German verbs "haben" (to have) and "hassen" (to hate). Meaning that "du hasst" = you hate and "du hast" = you have. Although the spellings are slightly different, they sound exactly the same when pronounced.
So the actual translation would be:
    Du (You)
    Du hasst (You hate)
Du hasst mich (You hate me)
    (...)
Du hast mich gefragt (You [have] asked me) x3
Und ich hab nichts gesagt (And I [have] said nothing)
Willst du, bis der Tod euch scheidet (Do you, until death does you part)
Treu ihr sein für alle Tage? (want to be loyal to her for all days?)
    Ja! (Yes!)
    NEIN! (NO!)
Willst du bis zum Tod der Scheide (Do you, until death of the pussy)
Sie lieben, auch in schlechten Tagen? (Want to love her, also in bad days?)
    Ja! (Yes.)
    NEIN! (NO!)

Rammstein is named after a military base of the US Air Force called "Ramstein" in Germany, where an accident happened in 1988. There was an air show when one of the planes crashed and 35 people, mostly civilians, died instantly. The number of casualities by this accident climbed up to around 70 since many where severely injured and died, too. The Band, which emerged right after the accident with the name Rammstein-Flugschau (meaning Rammstein Air Show), denied naming themselves after it, but soon admitted, that they didn't find a name for their band in time and took the name of the military base.
The first songs from them had a heavy industrial (music genre) influence and it prolongs up to today, leading to this umistakable mix of metal and techno-ish influence. They are one of the early influencers in the movement called "Neue Deutsche Härte" which I would translate to New German Hardness/Harshness, developing in the mid 90s in gemany.
Great band, greater live-shows and often very controversial topics. The members are mostly pyrotechnicians, if not all of them, which greatly inflicts their live performances.

The band and their first song is named after a plane crash in 1988 at Ramstein Flugtag (air day) in Germany where three Italian planes collided resulting in 70 deaths and hundreds of serious injuries - so a massively provocative name.
Du Hast - is based on German wedding vow, some translations reference a play on the words Du Hast (You have) and Du Hasst (You Hate)
You, you have, you have me
You, you have, you have me
You, you have, you have me
You, you have, you have me
    [Pre-Chorus]
You, you have, you have me
You have me, you asked me
You asked me, you asked me and I said nothing
    [Chorus]
Do you want, until death separates you
To be faithful to her for all days
    (Yes) No
    (Yes) No
Do you want, until death, which would separate
To love her, even in bad days
    (Yes) No
    (Yes) No

The band is named for a small German town called Ramstein that has an Airforce base next to it of the same name.
Back in the 80's there was one of the worst Airshow disasters ever in Europe, the Italian AF display team had a mid air collision and one of the aircraft crashed into the crowd. A lot of people were killed and badly injured.

The "Du hast/hasst mich" is a play on words. They both sound similar (hasst has a sharper s) and initially it sounds like "you, you have/hate, you have/hate" still unclear of the meaning, then the apparent solution is given with "you hate me, you hate me" and then just as you think you have figured out the meaning by that sentence they extend it to "you have asked me" making you realize that they have just tricked you and the meaning was indeed "you have"

Just wanted to let u guys know that I love the Chanel and I love how open minded you guys are to new music. Subscribed, notification bell, liked every video I've seen, don't skip the ads. These are some bands ik people will want you to react to and if you want any more just say so bc I have a fuck ton more to add to this list.
Gojira: this is an amazing band that centers themselves around nature activism. They have a lot of death metal influence and do scream but it's different then what you have probably heard from screaming in metal before. As far as songs to listen to I would recommend flying whales, heaviest matter if the universe, stranded, silvera, and my personal favorite The art of dying.
Dream Theater: a prog rock/metal band with some of the most talented musicians out there and are without a doubt up there with tool from that prospective. No screaming with this band so don't worry but they do have extremely complex music. Songs I would suggest are pull me under, fall into the light, untethered angel, and panic attack.
Metallica: I know you have heard of these guys before but I haven't seen a reaction on them from you guys yet and seeing as they are so godly you guys should without a doubt give them a listen. Songs I would recommend listening to are enter sandman, nothing else matters, creeping death, master of Puppets, for whom the Bell tolls and many more but I want to keep this list fairly short as to not overwhelm you with all their hits at once.
Tool: you know them, you love them but you haven't listened to what is widely considered as one of their best works: lateralus. Look up as much as you can about this song before you listen to it tho trust me it's better to know all the details to look for going into the song on this one.
Opeth: another prog metal band like dream Theater but they do have some screaming however it's also mixed with a lot of calmer stuff as well. If you listen to this band and appreciate their stuff I promise you that you will praise them almost as much as Tool. Almost. Songs I would recommend are ghost of Perdition, sorceress, blackwater Park, and reverie/Harlequin forest.
Slipknot: a nu metal band that a lot of people love and a lot of people hate bc hardcore metalheads tend not to like nu metal but u don't have to listen to them, formulate ur own opinion on this band. As far as songs go they have a lot of songs that sound very different from one another but here are their big hits. Snuff, vermilion part 1, vermilion part 2, duality, people = shit, spit it out, wait and bleed, the devil in I, and unsainted.
I have a lot more to tell you about as far as bands go and the metal community as a whole so if you have any more questions or want my opinions on any bands i can give you mine and others to help you decide what you want to react to. Love tool Tuesdays and keep up the reactions plz.

"Du hasst mich" = You hate me
"Du hast mich gefragt" = You (have) asked me
Notice that "du hast" (you have) and "du hasst" (you hate) look and sound very similar, it's a play on that.

The band is named after a US airbase near Kaiserslautern, which suffered a catastrophic accident at an air show. 3 jets collided above spectators, resulting in 70 deaths and 500 injuries.

    "They're pyromaniacs"
Nah...just a bit over the top art style, with several points of flame machines on stage, weird ass outfits (many times BSM like) and so on, just to set a dynamic background to their music, which is mostly sort of defined as Industrial Metal.
Now if you want a full 180° on bands from that region, singing foreign languages, but banging at a completely different level, check out the group called Heilung, specially their live performances of the LIFA concert, with some nice tracks like Hamrer Hippyer. It's like a spiritual tribal experience!

    Sonne
    Rosenrot
    Ich tu dir weh
    Hilf mir
    You won’t regret it. 😈

There actually was a tag team in NJPW around 2008-2011 called "No Limit"(Tetsuya Naito & Yujiro Takahashi) that used "Du Hast" as their theme. Which was pretty random, because gimmick wise they had nothing in common with Rammstein at all.

As someone said, it's a play on words between "you have" and "you hate". Doesn't become clear until further in to the song. With German pronunciation "ei" is like "eye" as in pie, and "ie" is like "ee" as in weed, so you have it right :)

In case you're wondering, they sing in German because they grew up in the pre-unification East where they were taught Russian, not English, in school. At the start of the band they couldn't speak English well enough to write songs, so they stuck to singing in their native tongue.

I had to drive from Adelaide to Melbourne (Australia) just to buy the album Sehnsucht (that this is on)! I had a friend who worked as a DJ in a strip club and got him to play this. The customers LOVED it - the girls got a little scared by the customers pounding their fists on the tables to the music...

"You, you hate, you hate me, you hate me.
You have asked me, you have asked me, you have asked me but I said nothing.
Do you, til death does you part, be faithful to her? NO"
That's the translation. Du hast means both you hate AND you have.
