Okay, Matoro's death should've been #1 imo. Mata Nui dying was monumental, but you never got attached to Mata Nui. He was just kinda there, with every hero in the world bent on cranking the volume on his alarm clock. I almost cried when Matoro died, because you felt like he was right there with you. You got to know him over the years. Seeing him die really hurt, honestly.
Bionicle was originally intended for kids but grew with intensity along with the age of the audience. On some boxes it is recommended for 16 year olds as a maximum. That is by no means a child.
adoboawesome Toa Ignika was AWESOME! I remember him being one of my favorite sets. I still have his silver Konohi Ignika, but he's in peices now. I doubt that I'll be able to put himmback together...
Hub Hikari Matoro was the best for sure. I was young when I read the comic where he died and it had a lasting impression on me that I treasure to this day. Self-sacrifice is something not enough people understand, and Matoro helped to teach me that!
Veins It was the first death in anything that I took seriously, and that's mostly because not only was Matoro my favorite Toa in the series (he still is), but he went out like a hero. He sacrificed himself so that everyone could live. That is how heroes go out. :)

During one of the books featuring the Piraka (forgot the exact name of the book), Avak has a flashback of Zaktan murdering a Toa of Psionics, he remembers seeing Zaktan dragging the Toa away, then when Avak goes to check on the situation, he sees nothing left except a mask with a bite taken out of it, and a strange liquid he didn't want to identify. Pretty dark for a kid's toy. I use this death as my primary excuse when people say Bionicle is childish and dumb.
I was kinda hoping Krika would get a special mention. what with Gorast overloading his mask and causing him to fade out of existence and all. It just seems like a terrifying concept to just slowly stop existing altogether. Not to mention Gorast's "Terridax mania" lends the scene a level of drama.

I bet than in the summer wave the toa/ekimu are going to beat Skull Grinder and reach for the Mask of Creation and LoSS is going to pop up behind it and go "SUPRISE!!!" You never know with BIONICLE...you never know...

Think what you will, I've gotten used to BIONICLE and Ninjago putting characters in situations were they should have died and NOT saying weather or not they did and then having them come back in the future. Remember Pythor, Keetongu, Ahkmou (well we didn't know that one was Ahkmou until it was revealed he didn't die), the Overlord, and Miserix. Also I believe Vezon at one point but don't quote me.
Well Matoro is one of my favorite Toa from the toa Ignika/Mahri years of Bionicle. And I can relate a lot to Matroro's and Zane's Death because Bionicle and Ninjago have a lot of similarities. But Matroro's death was my favorite Bionicle death in the G1 Bionicle universe because it proves that it takes to be a toa. :)
The first one I ever experienced was the death of Makuta at the end of Glatorian. It was the series that put me through my Bionicle phase, and I still own the whole Glatorian series.
My number one bionicle death was bionicle it self because its dead and is know an empty shell of a series, I mean ok the sets are good but they have to get better at telling ther story because if not bionicle going to die twice

Exactly. That's what makes him so awesome. I was all ready to have the new storyline location introduced to me, and the book opens by introducing us to the first character with a name. And then he dies. And again we know no one in Mahri Nui. Most importantly, though, as far as Onu Matoran go, REYSA: STILL A MORE LIKABLE CHARACTER THAN ONEPU. "Oh and Taipu's here too" my butt.

Matoro and actually all the Toas, Turagas and Matorans from Kopaka or Kokoro are my favs, they are so noble, visionary and philosophical yet still very humble, that's how a civilized society should be.

Great video, though I still have no idea how Lhikan actually dies. He steps in front of Vakama, he gives Makuta his shield, it clashes with Makuta's body, the mask of time flies off of Vakama's face, and all of a sudden, Lhikan is laying there fatally injured… WHAT?!
Trisket I've heard it was either the impact of Makuta's shadow hand thing, or the Mask of Time's power took it's toll on Lhikan when he jumped in. Or a combination of both, or some other third thing :P

Aw... I remember when I first read in the comics, Matoro's final act... This maybe makes me look like a big wimp, but I legitimately cried. Legit tear stains are on that page. He was the coolest, being Nuju's right hand matoran, his first meet with Kopaka, everything in 2006... Ahhh... Anyhow, #RememberMatoro.
reading the bionicle novels as a kid, matoro's death was easily the most impactful to me. still makes me tear up sometimes 😢 what he did is what made him my favorite character in the series to this day

Man Toa Mahri Matoro was my first bionicle back in the day and from then on I loved Bionicle and kept getting the sets until the Glatorians but Toa Mahri was always my favorite. I just found out yesterday that Matoro died and I'm 16 now I spent 10 years not knowing Matoro died I can't believe it.
I've always wanted to see like a TTV special on the top Ten Bionicle Books where you guys (except Kahi) spend like 3 hours debating which bionicle books are the best. Either that or do 10th anniversary specials for all the books in the legends series.

Small note here: Teridax wasn't the last one to die in Bionicle G1. Both Karzahni and Tren Krom died after the reunification of Spherus Magna. Helryx, Miserix, a different Tuyet, Vezon, Artakha, and an unnamed Great Being were all in a building that was about to explode when the story stopped being updated.
jeez, i feel left, out, not knowing even half of these characters, XD i'd probably take some time to find and read these books if it wasn't for my reading disability (i can read individual words and sentences, it's just i cant read page after page of a story without either losing track, or forgetting what i just read... well maybe that's just ADD, but none the less, if i were to read a whole book, i probably wouldn't remember a single detail about it)

I always found Carapar's death by Tren Krom to be very disturbing. One moment sneaking a move to kill Krom, the next a third eye appears on the gelatinous mass and fires a disintegration beam, shattering him to pieces. Shocked me reading that.
I loved the way Lhikan's death was handled. It's an example of the wise guide having to die or leave his followers behind before they can reach their full potential - kind of like Jesus, if you believe in the bible. The way that he gives his mask to Vakama represents passing on his fighting spirit to the next generation of heroes.
Thomas G You don't have to believe in Jesus to appreciate the story of his death. Even thinking about it as something purely fictional it is a really great story.
I would've switched the last two personally, because while Mata Nui's death was important, it was a character we knew very little about. We knew all the lore surrounding him, yes, but there was no attachment, whereas Matoro had been with us for 7 years prior to his death. The thing that really tips the scale for me is the effect of their deaths, though. Mata Nui's was a crushing defeat, but I feel the bittersweet hope that Matoro's death came with puts it a set above.
How did Takanuva revive when Takutanuva was crushed to death beyond repair in red star? While Sidorak couldn't go to red star? Jala had his corpse intact at least. So that he could revive. Was Mask of Light the Soul Jar of Takanuva which could revive him even if his body was crushed?
Hey, does anyone know if there's a website where one can read ALL the Bionicle stories (including the ones that were never printed in books, like FoF)? To this day, there are still a few parts of the Bionicle lore that I don't know as much about because I can't find the stories. Bionicle wiki has some, but they don't have an organized list of the stories on there.
I didn't think twice about this list when it first came out but looking back I'ld have to add one: The Bohrok-Kal. Sure they weren't "alive" and considering were Bohrok come from are techicaly already dead, but I still found it very impactful considering it was the fist thing we got close to a death (sure there was the first fight with teridax were he disappeared, the Ta-Matoran who were at the Tren Krom Break and some Bohrok/Rahi, but these were the first named characters) Their deaths weren't very impactful to the story, but they helped display that sorta scy-ci (I don't think I spelled that right, "brain-process" would work but sounds stupid) thing BIONICLE goes for by showing that greed can only lead to bad things and as far as deaths go, they were some of the most described and illustrated (I'm pretty sure some of the 2008 Makuta weren't actualy shown dieing it just said they did thanks to the storm; Antroz, Chirox, and Vampra I beilive) I just really felt for the Kal, and their deaths made "Makuta's Revenge" and the 2003 comics some of the most re-read books for me other than maybe "Legacy of Evil" (face it, who doesn't like seeing someone turned into a black-hole)
People are still complaining about this? The new "Hero Factory build" was made to standardise future action figured size sets which is why even Chima and Super Hero sets use them. Also they were designed by the makers of Bionicle so if it wasn't cancelled in 2010 we would have started using those parts anyway.
Also the Hero Factory pieces are much sturdier and stronger than the later pieces of Bionicle G1. There are plenty of MOCs built with both old Bionicle and new Hero Factory pieces, some of which are only possible because of the Hero Factory pieces. One would think it's at least a structural upgrade.

+Austin Markiewicz I totally agree with your point of view. In these types of debates, you need an open mind to understand the concept of the cosmics. DMT holds all of the minds secrets. It helps us explore the world through our conscience. We leave our physical body to explore the world and expand our mind. This isn't astral projection nor it is a hallucination. One needs to understand that we are all of the same consciousness because we are all made of the same universal elements and we are just figments of the consciousness expressing itself through a physical realm. one of the honorable deaths I had in mind was Takuta Nuva**Makuta and Taka Nuva merged**, Takuta Nuva sacrificing some of his power to revive Jaller, it was an honorable deed, yet, he still died after his heroic deed
10: Dark Mirror was fun. Very. 9: Poor Guy. Never stood a chance. 8: I can fondly recall seeing this movie and hoping he got killed off. Was not disappointed. 7: Good riddance. Those two were a waste of space, but they had some good moments. 6: While watching this, I realized that Makuta Gorast was the only female Makuta to ever be mentioned. Huh. That aside, That was a cheap way to tie up loose ends. 5: I liked him. I wish we had more stories following him. 4: Jaller is one of my favorite characters and while he was only dead for a brief time, I guess it can be counted considering how much death ACTUALLY happens. 3: It was technically the Bota Magna piece, but close enough. The death seemed kind of simple, but it could've been far more disappointing. 2: MVP of the Inika/Mahri team. Literally. 1: I thought you were meaning his death at the end of Gen 1, but this is fairly intense too... even if it's only temporary. Honestly, my list would have the same cast, though I would put Matoro above Mata Nui since he fixed the problem and made the story go on.
I wouldn't put Mata Nui on the list at all, since his death is what makes Matoro's so good to begin with. They've failed, there's only one hope to bring him back, and Matoro does it anyways. I might put the Toa Ignika somewhere on this list instead, because he (she? it?) sacrifices itself to become more like the person who inspired him to become a toa in the first place. It's a full cycle of duty and destiny, but the reason I personally like it is because there's really no unity involved. It shows that, in both of these deaths, if you want to save the world, you might not have anybody there to back you up. You have to do it by yourself, and show the courage of six (or more) heroes. That's symbolic, man.
I would have put Tuyet much higher on the list, that was such an awesome death for a villain. Sure it was graphic, but it was such a good way to kill her off and was probably one of the best scenes that I've read in all the Bionicle literature.
Because only star wars has rebels and an empire, right? It's not like those are just terms you can use to classify a group or anything, right? It's not like human history has had empires and rebels.
Wait... Didn't Matoro sacrifice himself once before, in the Chamber of Death? He gave himself up willingly in the final ordeal before facing Vezon for the Mask of Life. That happened in the novel at least, and the test revived him for his courage and willingness to give up his life. Don't tell me they reused that story!...

Great video, though I still have no idea how Lhikan actually dies. He steps in front of Vakama, he gives Makuta his shield, it clashes with Makuta's body, the mask of time flies off of Vakama's face, and all of a sudden, Lhikan is laying there fatally injured… WHAT?!
Trisket I've heard it was either the impact of Makuta's shadow hand thing, or the Mask of Time's power took it's toll on Lhikan when he jumped in. Or a combination of both, or some other third thing :P
I did notice something resembling a heartstone on Lhikan's board...maybe they're connected somehow?
Lhikan as a Turaga was physically weak. Even with the shield the blast coming from Makuta would still be enough to kill him.

He was the coolest, being Nuju's right hand matoran, his first meet with Kopaka, everything in 2006... Ahhh...

reading the bionicle novels as a kid, matoro's death was easily the most impactful to me. still makes me tear up sometimes 😢 what he did is what made him my favorite character in the series to this day

Would have been the best moment to reference the song "What it takes to be a hero," that being a pretty well known song during bio-tube's BMV (Bionicle Music Video) phase.
Man Toa Mahri Matoro was my first bionicle back in the day and from then on I loved Bionicle and kept getting the sets until the Glatorians but Toa Mahri was always my favorite. I just found out yesterday that Matoro died and I'm 16 now I spent 10 years not knowing Matoro died I can't believe it.

I've always wanted to see like a TTV special on the top Ten Bionicle Books where you guys (except Kahi) spend like 3 hours debating which bionicle books are the best. Either that or do 10th anniversary specials for all the books in the legends series.

I thought Sidorak's death was not only satisfying, but it personified Roodaka's evil.
Small note here: Teridax wasn't the last one to die in Bionicle G1. Both Karzahni and Tren Krom died after the reunification of Spherus Magna. Helryx, Miserix, a different Tuyet, Vezon, Artakha, and an unnamed Great Being were all in a building that was about to explode when the story stopped being updated.

(i can read individual words and sentences, it's just i cant read page after page of a story without either losing track, or forgetting what i just read... well maybe that's just ADD, but none the less, if i were to read a whole book, i probably wouldn't remember a single detail about it)

I always found Carapar's death by Tren Krom to be very disturbing. One moment sneaking a move to kill Krom, the next a third eye appears on the gelatinous mass and fires a disintegration beam, shattering him to pieces. Shocked me reading that.
I loved the way Lhikan's death was handled. It's an example of the wise guide having to die or leave his followers behind before they can reach their full potential - kind of like Jesus, if you believe in the bible.
The way that he gives his mask to Vakama represents passing on his fighting spirit to the next generation of heroes.
Thomas G You don't have to believe in Jesus to appreciate the story of his death. Even thinking about it as something purely fictional it is a really great story.

I would've switched the last two personally, because while Mata Nui's death was important, it was a character we knew very little about. We knew all the lore surrounding him, yes, but there was no attachment, whereas Matoro had been with us for 7 years prior to his death. The thing that really tips the scale for me is the effect of their deaths, though. Mata Nui's was a crushing defeat, but I feel the bittersweet hope that Matoro's death came with puts it a set above.
RIP Matoro. You were one of the first Matoran to appear in the series. I have your Matoran mask sitting beside me right now.

How did Takanuva revive when Takutanuva was crushed to death beyond repair in red star? While Sidorak couldn't go to red star? Jala had his corpse intact at least. So that he could revive. Was Mask of Light the Soul Jar of Takanuva which could revive him even if his body was crushed?

To this day, there are still a few parts of the Bionicle lore that I don't know as much about because I can't find the stories. Bionicle wiki has some, but they don't have an organized list of the stories on there.

I have a quation regarding Takanuva: What are his greatest feats in battle? Did he survive a great fall, or a shot in the face, or lift a huge rock?

I didn't think twice about this list when it first came out but looking back I'ld have to add one: The Bohrok-Kal. Sure they weren't "alive" and considering were Bohrok come from are techicaly already dead, but I still found it very impactful considering it was the fist thing we got close to a death (sure there was the first fight with teridax were he disappeared, the Ta-Matoran who were at the Tren Krom Break and some Bohrok/Rahi, but these were the first named characters) Their deaths weren't very impactful to the story, but they helped display that sorta scy-ci (I don't think I spelled that right, "brain-process" would work but sounds stupid) thing BIONICLE goes for by showing that greed can only lead to bad things and as far as deaths go, they were some of the most described and illustrated (I'm pretty sure some of the 2008 Makuta weren't actualy shown dieing it just said they did thanks to the storm; Antroz, Chirox, and Vampra I beilive)
I just really felt for the Kal, and their deaths made "Makuta's Revenge" and the 2003 comics some of the most re-read books for me other than maybe "Legacy of Evil" (face it, who doesn't like seeing someone turned into a black-hole)

Both, all the Makuta species are members of The Brotherhood of Makuta... Except for Miserix when he was betrayed.

All Bionicle is now is Hero Factory pieces.
ClassicShadowBox Hero Factory pieces that have produced sets far superior to a good majority of the original sets.
People are still complaining about this? The new "Hero Factory build" was made to standardise future action figured size sets which is why even Chima and Super Hero sets use them. Also they were designed by the makers of Bionicle so if it wasn't cancelled in 2010 we would have started using those parts anyway.
Also the Hero Factory pieces are much sturdier and stronger than the later pieces of Bionicle G1. There are plenty of MOCs built with both old Bionicle and new Hero Factory pieces, some of which are only possible because of the Hero Factory pieces. One would think it's at least a structural upgrade.

+Austin Markiewicz I totally agree with your point of view. In these types of debates, you need an open mind to understand the concept of the cosmics. DMT holds all of the minds secrets. It helps us explore the world through our conscience. We leave our physical body to explore the world and expand our mind. This isn't astral projection nor it is a hallucination. One needs to understand that we are all of the same consciousness because we are all made of the same universal elements and we are just figments of the consciousness expressing itself through a physical realm. Through DMT we can talk to these spirits because DMT brings our souls vibrational waves to the same as other universes and dimensions so then we can communicate with other worldly beings. This physical realm we live in is just an illusion and a test to see if we can be enlightened depending on how our mind can consider things and how we are not ignorant. DMT is natural in the body so we all can experience the world and strengthen our consciousness to the point we become so enlightened, we become our own gods. We are all the same.

I get that people aren't satisfied with the way Bionicle G1 ended, but killing Teridax with a literal falling planet was amazing.
one of the honorable deaths I had in mind was Takuta Nuva**Makuta and Taka Nuva merged**, Takuta Nuva sacrificing some of his power to revive Jaller, it was an honorable deed, yet, he still died after his heroic deed

Honestly, my list would have the same cast, though I would put Matoro above Mata Nui since he fixed the problem and made the story go on.
I wouldn't put Mata Nui on the list at all, since his death is what makes Matoro's so good to begin with. They've failed, there's only one hope to bring him back, and Matoro does it anyways.
I might put the Toa Ignika somewhere on this list instead, because he (she? it?) sacrifices itself to become more like the person who inspired him to become a toa in the first place.
It's a full cycle of duty and destiny, but the reason I personally like it is because there's really no unity involved. It shows that, in both of these deaths, if you want to save the world, you might not have anybody there to back you up. You have to do it by yourself, and show the courage of six (or more) heroes. That's symbolic, man.
I would have put Tuyet much higher on the list, that was such an awesome death for a villain.
Sure it was graphic, but it was such a good way to kill her off and was probably one of the best scenes that I've read in all the Bionicle literature.

Wait... Didn't Matoro sacrifice himself once before, in the Chamber of Death? He gave himself up willingly in the final ordeal before facing Vezon for the Mask of Life. That happened in the novel at least, and the test revived him for his courage and willingness to give up his life.
