I am _thrilled_ that you liked the sound design for Adam's moonslice. Beyond rebuilding the Aura break, it was honestly the trickiest thing in the entire Forever Fall animation to get sounding right, and I'm glad it worked out ^^

I love when there's context for animation to give the fight weight: a sparring session, an unused story concept from V3, Yang asking yet another shady character about her mother. It makes the world feel more alive. It's exactly what I want from fan content.

I internally squee'd when I saw Cake Station and AKMotions in the title! So glad to see you cover them and their efforts!
Cake is pretty much an unofficial mentor for a lot of us up-and-coming fight animators-- he's been holding contests for the past six months that each have a different challenge prompt for fight choreography, like the first one was themed around hats, the second was a fist vs foot 1v1, and this month we're all doing 3v3s with a tag-team style, like Dead Fantasy II! His goal to "subtly" and indirectly teach us all how to be like Monty.
6:55 Yeah, there's a good reason AK kicked _all_ of our tails in the first contest. Like, it genuinely was not fair having him in there next to all of us rookies. I'm slightly exaggerating there, but I'm not joking or exaggerating when I say _literally_ everyone called him being the winner before Cake announced the results.
This was pretty short, but it's always fun to see people talk about the efforts of fan animations, even and especially when one has already seen most of them.
Welcome to another episode of “Critter looks at fan animations that are better than the show.” But fr this is my favourite of your series, highlighting really cool animators in the community is awesome. Just being able to see someone gush about a rwby animation again is really refreshing.
As a HEMA fan and medieval nerd, I do love Jaune's fight. He seems to use his sword and shield reasonably, especially when he protects himself while thrusting his sword, it just... ahh. I love it. Medieval nerd happy
I loved the one moment where he raises his shield while attacking, Yang just goes "why aren't you using that?" and just punches him in his unshielded face, lol. It's something fighters with shields do a lot and this is the first time I've seen it addressed with self-awareness like that.
Damn Yang gets more love from these than the real show
I rather like your "harsh but fair" for lack of a better phrase constructive review. What really stood out to me was that you noted the poor mic as separate from the performance.
yeah, I've seen that animations and many others with the same issue. People don't have mics and it's hard to get every person to have the same quailty mic performance for free.
@@BolderoffBros fully understandable. Even something like the snowball mic can be 45+ which is in the range of "do I really want this".

I think the move with Nora spinning her war hammer around her neck was supposed to be a little bit of a callback to the volume 2 food fight

If you do more of this you should definitely take a look at remnants its a seriously impressive fan project also this was a great video good job
See the crazy part is these aren't even like crazy out of the box fan projects that would be unachievable for RT. They're literally RT/Monty's ideas that were scrapped, forgotten about in later seasons, or just straight up retconed by the way the show's writing has soured. If only the show proper was as thoughtful and deliberate in delivering on the creative vision that RWBY could be.
Another really cool thing about the Jaune v Yang fight is that it also shows that he's a strategist everytime he's pushed down he always tries a new approach like holding his shield and sword in one hand, and later he actually uses his sword and sheath toward the end like how Adam did. It was a super cool imagining of shield and sword combat.

I'm glad that JC is shouting out these animations! I've done two videos of my own shouting out other animators aswell. I want more people to make RWBY animations because the fans do a much better job then RT a lot of the time!!!
Honestly, the Raven vs JNPR fight should have been in the main show cause you could tease Raven being a Maiden herself, or have it that she's mainly trying to test Pyrrha.
It's not a rwby fananimation but clearly a rwby/monty oum inspired one. It's called:"The craft of war: redemption" by Mark formally know as Mark zahng. I would love to hear your take on it.

Oh my lord... You're right! Forever Fall never shows his face! I never realized that!
My favorite is definitely the Adam vs bees. Like that fight actually makes me invested in Yang and Blake with their conflict with Adam. It makes me very sad that it wasn't in the actual show. I have noticed that there isn't actual fights in rwby anymore, everyone uses powers, punches, kicks and weapons but seeing actual choreography from the characters isn't there anymore or if there is, it's very small.

One of the host broomsticks calls Adam a bootleg version of Vergil from the Devil May Cry series since both are edgy anime boy villains that use katanas that shoot energy and whose fighting style heavily involves sheathing and unsheathing the sword hell they have the same hair cut if you look it up outside the color
My only regret is that this was made before cake station released their RWBY ova.. would love to hear what you had to say about it.

I love your vids I actually want to make animated anime kinda like RWBY with poser too but not till I graduate from college and practice with fight choreography and if I ever do make my vids and you happen to watch them feel free to judge them any critisism would be great to help me improve

On the note of animations, raxacory just recently released a trailer showcasing an original grimm.
I've always thought that RWBY animation should be based on colors and strong contrasts. Especially during dramatic moments or powerful attacks. Strong contrasts and one color from the hero using the attack.
I also think that the style plays with the colors of the JOJO anime would also suit.

I know it's hard to release OC trailers but I recommend releasing all OC trailers and even a full team short. This is the first time JC has done several animations in one video, so maybe she will.on your first release. I would like to watch your trailers, good luck!

Considering how Rooster Teeth treated the employees that got laid off, abused and overworked with little pay, I think that's a bad idea.

So I just watched the Yang and Jaune fan animations, and I LOVE the idea that he has actually been improving, especially when he goes on the offensive at the end. I always thought Jaune could be one of the best offensive fighter if he got better with his semblance and fighting skills, kinda like a Tsunade in the Rwby world.

And this is why the anime adaptation is like an inferior imitation. it lacks everything that is supposed to be in a RWBY animation.

Still leagues better than the official rwby episodes rooster teeth butchered with their bad writing and also the toxic rwby community reddit .
Rwby is better off without RT, I would never understand why people like CANON rwby, I'm not kidding when I say that it is the worst series I have seen in my life so far. At best it's a mediocre attempt at replicating an anime with missed opportunities and bland fights and at worst a horrible nonsensical anime wannabe without a sense of direction that can only be enjoyed by turning off your brain. The story is godawful,the world building is nonexistent, music ranges from whatever to good and every time team rwby came up with their "amazing logic" i wanted to fucking kill myself.
Not only that but they try their damnest to convince me that the white fang, literal terrorists are "innocent and just misunderstood", anyone with a brain can point out the hypocrisy of the white fang and how they are committing the same crimes as humans, and don't get me started on the characters that only serve as the "inclusive" character.
The fact that they charge you real money to watch this atrocity is insulting. If I'm going to pay I rather watch shows that are leagues better than this ( jujutsu kaisen,demon slayer, attack on titan, HXH, one punch man, fate grand order, yuyu hakusho etc....) hell there's gacha games that deal with racism far better ( arknights). check out Honkai impact 3rd it is similar to rwby but does pretty much everything better, from story to characters and theme.

The female adult characters in the Rwby are shown to be too tall compared to the main characters Jaune Arc is 6ft 1 in the first three seasons Glenda is shown to be really taller than him she is 5ft11 even though she is wearing heels not go-go boots it may put an inch on her but not taller than Jaune

Seeing all these really make me wish there was more overlap between the RWBY and Dragonfable/AdventureQuest fandoms. There are so many cool weapon designs, monsters and fighting styles in that setting but good luck finding any fan animations. Hell even fan-art seems pretty sparse compared to other fandoms of a similar age.

No matter how much I ever dislike RWBY or it’s fanbase, this shit makes the shows existence worth it. No other show has a fanbase this willing to try their own creations and their own stories and it’s wonderful.

To be fair Jaune's semblance isn't healing. It's amplification. People forget this but he can also use it on himself. Theres plenty of stuff you can do with that if you're creative enough.

That awkward moment when some fan animators working on pure passion make a better product than the thing with the high budget that inspired them.
There’s a Blake vs Yang Spar video set during their time in Atlas. To me it’s one of the best fan animations out that uses the show’s characters.
I like the oven power character fights the one with Jaune was cool ,I want some one to do Oscar vs Jaune XD I think it be cool if we see the character do training together like maybe Blake vs Nora or yang vs Oscar or Ruby vs Oscar or yang vs nora

I want to see a fan made RWBY fight between Ruby and Adam. There's Pyrrah Vs. Adam, Jaune & Ren Vs. Adam, and Adam Vs. Raven (in manga), but strangely enough no Ruby Vs. Adam.

Forever Fall: When I heard Blake talk, I honestly thought it was taken directly from the show. I also liked how Adam used the force of the explosion from Yang's projectile to fling himself forward and close the distance. And I know a lot of people were mad with Adam's death, but this feels far better. Kinda sad how fans with no budget can do better fight scenes than the original crew.
Sparring Match: How great would it be to see Jaune sparring against someone else, someone helping him become a better fighter. We all know Jaune is outclassed, but he still managed to hold his own in a way and I think landed a few decent hits. Also, that cross-slash with his sword would make for a great ranged attack, if it didn't require a specific motion.
Wildfire: I never knew 2D RWBY animations existed, but it seems like a perfect fit. Many of the shots reminded me of Studio Trigger and their simplistic, yet over the top fighting styles.
Weiss vs Monster: It's small, but I like the style and flat colors; really makes each color in and of itself stand out.
JNRP vs Raven: It was nice to see Jaune get involved and actually show some semblance (heh) of skill, even if it was clear Raven didn't see him as anything resembling a threat. The combo move with Pyrrha and Nora was a highlight for me, as well as Raven's "Nevermore" attack. Wish we got to see it and her Dust-cylinder thing in the show. And even then, the beginning scene with JNPR just hanging out and chatting was just plain charming.

I recommend checking out (and maybe review if the patrons suggest it) Dillon Goo! Other than working on Vol 3, his videos don't really have anything to do with rwby, but are still just as good fight animations! With cats! And cat versions of anime characters! One I recommend is the Aang vs Korra fight, since you're reviewing Korra, you would get a kick out of it!
Hit or miss I rather check out some of these underrated gem before Volume 9 (and by the time I'm making this ) Volume 10 ever get made either!
The show doesn't even show you the fact that Jaune is also 6ft4 in the last two seasons

They're not animated in the same way as most of the fan videos you react to, but I have a series of videos where I do skits with the mystery mini figures called RWBY Minis.
They used to be puppeted by my hands, but last year I've moved to stop-motion, and I think you might like how I'm working with the stop-motion, being a beginner in the field.

AK’s reimagining of the red trailer is so fantastic I was so blown away I had to scour their channel for more.
I dunno if it would be mean, but if the JNPR animation was done to where the characters seem to react to the poor quality of Pyrrha's actresses mike, it wouldn't added some decent comedy and a sense of fourth wall breaking meta.

THE JIGGLE PHYSICS
Idk if you know yet, but CakeStation made another video soon after you made this one. It's where they made their own episode of RWBY and it's centered on Weiss. I think it's about 8 minutes long and they did a challenge so they made it in just 2 weeks, fully voiced with sound effects and everything. You really gotta check it out!
Labowski Arts recently made a Yang vs Raven animation and it looks amazing, I’d suggest checking it out.
I'll admit im a jaune fan, always love the lovable weaker character that isn't on par with who he's with and shouldn't be with. The inbetween of main character and relevant side character. Someone who has a lot to grow and mostly seen as weak due to comparison. I'm sad so little animations of him in fights exist in either show or fan works so its another kind of pain when reality hits me as he's accurately represented; getting his ass kicked as someone who could not fight when he was first shown
