My favorite aspect of the Gamecube games was the ref's fighting back after having enough of the wrestlers' abuse. Also, all the moves look so damn crunchy and painful on the Gamecube
Wrestlemania X8 was my first wrestling game and I couldn’t put it down I have been a wrestling fan since I was a baby and that game will always have a special place in my heart
My gamecube library is really small, I have the WWE games and Resident Evil 0, Remake and Resident Evil 4. I originally bought it just for the RE Remake, but the WWE games, particularly the DOR games were a nice bonus. I remember sinking a lot of time into Wrestlemania 19's Revenge mode, but I didn't remember the chains. That looks rather frustrating. Great video, and thanks for the great job you've been doing especially with the lockdown situation. It's a nice bonus to be able to put on one of your videos and forget about the troubles for a short while.
REmake is one of my favourite Gamecube games and it was one of the reasons I bought the console too. I've been replaying the HD remaster lately too after being slightly disappointed with RE3 Remake.
@@WrestlingBios I can understand that, I enjoyed it but at the same time I do feel they could have done a lot more and Nemesis was underwhelming, I wish he was more like Mr X in RE2 Remake. I remember the original Remake blew my mind, the mansion was so spooky, exactly what we all wanted with it.
I just wrapped up the next video, plan is to play Remake 1 tonight :) I was initially going to play CVX but talking about Remake 1 here has made me want to play it again
Great game I enjoyed South Park , Royal rumble , silent hill, soul Calibur, Spider-Man , gta 2, virtua striker 2, Daytona USA , nfl , resident evil and 102 Dalmatian’s I own those
It has to do with the timing of this games development, when they started it was still WWF but once they finished it was WWE, due to deadlines they couldn't go back and change the in game logos, so they just changed the cover and packaging.
Also, when you talk about the DOR games, please talk about creation suite. It's literally the best creation suite I've seen in a video game. You can make insanely accurate characters from other media. Hell, I even created Mewtwo on my DOR copy.
Wrestlemania XIX was my favor for a long time, even after the DOR games came out, only for the insanely detailed create an entrance mode. Being able to time your entrances to the 10th of a second was fantastic.
Loved this, Been playing Wrestlemania XIX a lot this week. It seems to be the closest thing to a spiritual No Mercy sequel we ever got, Especially in the the art style and animations. 2 former AKI developers worked on X8 & XIX and i think it shows especially in the latter.
Awesome Awesome Awesome Video! Retro gaming is one of my main serious hobbies (NES Tetris specifically)... So these videos you've done covering old wrestling video games have been right up my alley! Never did own a GameCube, so these games were totally new to me during this video. I owned the NES, SNES and N64 and a bunch of the wrestling games for those. Fired up the SNES Royal Rumble game early last week and it gave me chills. lmao. Thanks so much for the effort! Please stay safe out there!
Man these games are classics! I remember having these games and having fun with my cousins!! Wrestlemania x8’s extreme mode man that was like a UFC beat down! lol! XIX was incredible loved the gameplay and the graphics were so much better! Regardless both games are great regardless of graphics!
I love Wrestlemania XIX's references to the AKI games on the N64. While it can't compete with Yoshiyuki Odaka's Smackdown Mall, the Shop Zone is a cute love letter to the former. The "Revenge" mode references WCW/nWo Revenge in my opinion, because in it, you unlock bosses based on popular Puro, MMA, and American Wrestlers. You even have Hon Zo Mon who represents FMW's Hayabusa who has been represented in many AKI games including WCW/nWo World Tour and Revenge, Ming Chee, Bartender Bismarck and others that have the move set of Bob Sapp and Scott Hall, winking at the fans buy giving him the movesets, taunts, and of course the name Victor Romanov, referring to Scott Hall's Razor Ramon gimmick in WWE, and other fictional characters with real life move sets.
I remember playing them back in the day. WM18 I must of played a hand full of times but WM19 & Day of Reckoning I played for ages. The Revenge mode is absolutely brilliant. Thanks making this video. Usually it's always American TH-camrs.
The things I love about Wrestlemania 19 is the revenge mode and also the alternate costume each character has. That game was so much fun. I still remember playing them with my sisters and cousins.
These games are my childhood. Sure, the PS2 Smackdown games are probably better and more refine (and I also grew up with those games) but I always found these games to be very underrated. I especially love how in WM19 (and in the Day of Reckoning games) you can completely create your own entrances with a created wrestler before the main series WWE games did that feature. Back as a kid, that was amazing!
GameCube was ahead of its time. Right now remakes of classic games like resident evil 2 and 3 or GAMECUBE was doing this with this system like the remake of resident evil 1 was amazing still to this day 😀 👏. Nice video about wrestling on the GameCube.
Really would love to see the older games come back on today consoles ps4 and ps5, wwf no mercy, wrestlemania xix, day of reckoning 1&2, wcw nwo revenge, njpw game that got The same wwf no mercy engine i think, here comes The pain, i really wanna see what aew will bring to the table with their game hopefully something like those gems ✌️
Great retrospective. Great revisiting these games after many years. These have aged really well and cool to collect for. The footage looks surprisingly great for what it is. Thanks for the upload. ✌🏻🙂
I remember playing these games so much when they came out, Revenge mode was awesome but I definitely remember raging out alot hahaha, I remember using Brock and just F5 Guards all the time.
I play long videos from my subscribed channels on at night in hopes to fall asleep to them. I end up paying full attention to yours and regretting in at work the next day.
My long held theory about revenge mode is both a work and a shoot the bosses are just ovw guys and the security guards are just rookies breaking in and each mission is just a segment on raw each week to build hype for the wrestlemainia 19 main event it’s brilliant
I love the innovation of the grapple strikes on top of the x8 system, which heavily borrows from No Mercy mechanics. What makes it more interesting is the fact that AKI was simplifying their mechanics for their Def Jam and Ultimate Muscle fighting games; removing selling animations, adding a submission bar and making their old animations more fluid to fit the the new games they were making (there were no video game licenses to be had after Vince bought WCW from under them and EA,) etc. Meanwhile Yuke's is here with two former AKI guys on lead design and they're building upward- making new beautiful hand drawn move animations and adding them to their x8 library, which looks like it was built on some smoothed out animations, some from the SD series.
I love when you go back and play these. Some of these games bring back more memories for me then the WWF/WCW TV programming. Would you consider doing WWF Warzone or Attitude? These two in particular were huge for me as a kid. I know that you’ve mentioned them before. Great content as always!
I changed the taunts for the wrestlers in x8 without my friend knowing. He owned the game, so it was super hilarious when Hollywood Hogan stopped his beat down of Steve Austin to execute a perfect spinaroonie.
That garage area with the swinging chains filled me with a blistering rage when I was a kid. Looking back I honestly don't think I've ever completed it. The Day of Reckoning games were the cream of the crop on Gamecube. I loved those games almost as much as I hated WrestleMania XIX.
One of my biggest issues with XIX is the fact that the intro walks are so stiff and they're basis of your intro. It makes everything so stiff! But the mode gives you way more options and camera angle than the 2K games. Even the latest, 2K20 looks identical to how it has looked since SVR 2006.
I only bought day of reckoning 2, because Stacy Kiebler was on the cover. I litteraly knew nothing about it. But I won a battle royale and a ladder match and those rewards were well worth the efforts.
I still have my player's guide for WrestleMania XIX. I loved that game. I played so many different wrestling game back then. My favorites were WCW vs NWO World Tour and Revenge, WWF No Mercy, WrestleMania XIX, Day of Reckoning 1 & 2, and SmackDown vs Raw 06 and 07. I actually just got a copy of Here Comes the Pain and I can't wait to play it.
I stayed up all night to play these games on my purple Game Cube console. I enjoyed playing 18x but 19x was so different. The graphics were so arcade like but all of the superstars look amazing imo. The game play in 19 was pretty fluid considering it being around 03' and you could have intergender matches. Oh every person had alternate attires. Something I miss in wrestling games.
These game retrospectives are a lot of fun. Never had a Gamecube, so it's neat to see what I missed out on. Of course, I still view Revenge, WM2K, and No Mercy as essentially perfect.
Fantastic review here, really highlights my feelings on both games well, I played XIX a ton as a kid and even now I'll sometimes pop it in and have fun for a few minutes. One extra thing about the Revenge Mode that's worth mentioning is that there are 2 completion bonuses. When you complete it for the first time you unlock EX Special Moves in the game. EX Special Moves serve to let some wrestlers on the roster perform an alternate finisher from a position that they already have one in. The most notable example here being Undertaker's EX special being the Tombstone. However EX Special moves require that you have 3 finishers stored and to activate them, you must press L and R along with A and B and it'll use all 3 slots and then you perform finishers like normal. Another unlockable is obtained upon a 2nd playthrough of Revenge Mode, completing it a 2nd time unlocks the Revenge Camera for Exhibition. The Revenge Camera basically means you can use the rotating camera during matches, this obviously only works if you're playing Exhibition alone. It's a neat addition although it can be weird for sure.
I still have my old copy of x8 with the stone cold, rvd cover.. I never even knew they made a sequel especially a game about my favorite wrestmania xix.. day of reckoning was my jam since I had a gamecube and my brother had a ps2 so he had the smackdown games
I never played these games when they were new, I was too much of a PS2/Smackdown fanboy. If you're gonna cover more Gamecube games I'd love to see your input on the DoR games.
The WrestleMania 18 was very nostalgia game roster and WrestleMania 19 was classic roster. I don't compare both of this game for DOR 1 & 2 because every game a different era and specially the roster.
Kurt Angle taking off his straps from his singlet is awesome. I love little details like that in games
