It's hilarious when the ref gets bumped too much and then starts beating up the wrestlers. That's when it's time to restart the match. He'll never quit.
The true successor to the Aki titles was Def Jam Vendetta, they used the WCW engine for it cause it was supposed to be the WCW game worked on for PS2. There’s a fun bit of lore in that.
They did have a least two former AKI employees who worked all the classics including No Mercy in Shunsuke Katsumata and Takumi Kon as lead designers throughout the Gamecube series and on to Yuke's two Wrestle Kingdom games on PS2 on the same engine. But yea, obvious being made by AKI, Def Jam Vendetta and Fight for New York had more of the classic staff from the N64 days, including director Hideyuki Iswashita aka Geta-san who Yuke's just hired to work on their upcoming AEW console game.
@@EliteEasyE why didn't AEW just hire Shunsuke Katsumata and Takumi Kon too to help out with the new game? the more AKI developers the better. I do want to see how the game turns out, but every time I stop and remember it's yukes and don't feel all that optimistic about it. Some of the SVR games were alright, but they were never on the level of what AKI could do IMO.
I cant remember being more excited for a video game as a kid than when Day of Reckoning was announced. I had a Gamecube, so the first Wrestling game was WM X8 for cheap at a Circuit City. I'm fond of it because it was my first. WM 19 only improved things, even with the wacky revenge mode. But DoR looked like a massive upgrade graphically and gameplay wise and I was so very happy that it delivered on both of those expectations I had! This video was very satisfying to watch as someone who really appreciated what DoR 1 and 2 brought us.
Aww man the day of Reckoning games really take me back to the mid 00s. Those were so fun to play back then and still are fun to play in this day and age.
I don't care what anyone says, Day of Reckoning and Day of Reckoning 2 are the best wrestling games! Multiman matches were so much fun and the story mode is really fun and challenging!
These Gamecube games absolutley respected the heritage of the AKI titles and we're a refreshing, fluid change of pace from the stagnating Smackdown series. It was just nice to play a wrestling game with nice new animations and none of the left overs from the PS1 games.
Not going to lie this game does not get the credit it deserves. I remember buying this one and the second on Gamecube and they were truly fun games. The character creator was solid as well as gameplay and everything else.
The Gamecube wrestling games are truly underrated, not to sure about Wrestlemania X8, the controls are a bit clunky. It does have the nwo in it i believe though, and a wwf game.
The Nut same, i was young at the time so i thought it was loads of fun. I remember the create a wrestler feature enabled you to control their physique in crazy ways, so my wwf had some of Scott Steiner’s steroid slamming buddies in it.
Besides the awesome gameplay and story mode, what I remember the most is when the game came out, the current WWE Champion was not in the game, JBL. That probably is because when the game was in development, he was in the APA with Ron Simmons and was not a priority, but the change in character and him winning the WWE Championship in such a short time caught everyone off guard, but he was in Smackdown vs Raw because that game came out later in the year.
I can clearly still hear the music that plays when you have your special activated. Me my brothers and cousins used to have 2 hour long hell in a cell matches.
Not the same thing, but Yuke's is making an AEW game with the former AKI director and Yuke's longtime gameplay designer Bryan Williams, who listed Wrestle Kingdom 2 (Wrestle Kingdom and DOR share the same engine) as his favorite games and he also Q/A tested DOR and took the pullback grapples from it. The Gamecube games had Shunsuke Katsumata and Takumi Kon as lead designers. Both previously worked at AKI and No Mercy that team also made Wrestle Kingdom 1 & 2 on the PS2 in Japan for Yuke's. While it's not the same exact situation, he AEW game could end up playing something like DOR, tho, admittedly the latest teaser with Jungle Boy looks more like Yuke's later games with sprinkles of AKI in the art style, camera movements, stances, etc. But we'll see.
@@TKMacsta Not sure what you mean. AEW Fight Forever does have gameplay and other similarities with Day of Reckoning including sharing Shunsuke Katsumata as a director on it.

I still pick this game back up at least once a year. It was a good time and cutting edge graphics for this time. In fact, J personally don’t need better graphics than this at all. DoR could have used a championship mode that allows winning and defending championships in Exhibition mode, and the Creation modes are ofc outdated now, but man what a classic. The gameplay and story are amazing.
This storyline was the best. Beating Undertaker and Triple H was so hard. Each had their differences. Triple H would technically beat you down and wear you down while Undertaker would physically beat you down. So you had to think about what you wanted to do to beat them. I also love the different ways each wrestler play in this game. I wish WWE games had this now.
Damn great video. Man, I missed out on N64 No Mercy back in the day as my local gamestore was unable to get it. I would like to believe that Day of Reckoning is closest we could get to a similiar No Mercy experience. Spend loads of hours with friends on this one, the gameplay was so good and so easy to pick up. I even prefer this one over DoR2 because that game would crash if we try to play with 4 CaWs at the same time. Easily my favorite wrestling game ever.
Still waiting for that Day of Reckoning 2 video! 😝 Seriously though I bought a Gamecube and both Day of Reckoning games based partially on this video. Thank you, I'm enjoying it immensely.
I've never played Day of Reckoning since I never owned a Gamecube back in the day. But I actually like the idea of the career modes carrying over to the next game. That's something I always wished the Smackdown games of that era would've implemented. It would've been interesting for sure and would've been more realistic with the on screen action also.
Still hoping for that Day of Reckoning 2 video! I always adored these games. I loved that the developers not only slipped a bunch of Japanese pop culture references in, you could also buy complete move sets for wrestlers that were based on Japanese legends like Kobashi and Misawa. That was on top of one of the most expansive move lists out there in general. I never played the PlayStation games, but seeing stuff like different sets of counters to suit different wrestling styles was amazing at the time.
Love the menu art design throwing back to No Mercy with the color, font, etc. They added a little modernization with the cloudy/smokey effect, but it's the same basis. The locker room that your story mode CAW stays in is almost a 1-1 recration of the No Mercy backstage. They updated a few things and I think they changed the chalkboard to a whiteboard. Just like XIX had WCW/nWo Revenge Easter eggs, DOR 1 had No Mercy Easter eggs. DOR 2 looked forward and succeded in a lot of places, but ironically fell into some of the same holes No Mercy did regarding optimization on a Nintendo System in its last days.
So weird you've done this video today, I was clearing out my cupboard at the weekend and have put my copy of Day of Reckoning 2 up on ebay. What a couple of games they were.
What a nostalgia trip... This was my favorite wrestling game when I was a child. I literally remember renting it from blockbuster.. Staying up all night playing with friends during sleep overs. Zebrahead - Falling apart was an amazing song in this game. Thank you for a trip down memory lane, it was needed.
Love the look of DOR 1. Dark, deep, metallic. The art style reminded me a bit of Legends of Wrestling 2. The venues and lighting, not the 80's action figure models. The gameplay was of course Yuke's satisfying Nintendo's fans used to AKI games. They even hired two guys on AKI and put them on lead design. I was all about in-ring action after the Stone Colds and Rocks left. I turned more toward Benoit, Regal, Eddie and stuff like that. With the games I was all about that gameplay, used it from the N64 AKI titles. I think the Gamecube was better at gameplay and the main team on the Smackdown games had the disc space and the years of experience doing production. The Smackdown games give you what the Raw TV show was giving you. WWE-style more sizzle and the Gamecube games were giving you more steak like the Smackdown show was with the Smackdown Six; giving you the in-ring action.
I love the Raw season mode in Day of Reckoning 1. That alone is reason enough to play this game. It really makes that final championship win feel well earned.
In hindsight the Smackdown games were subpar. GameCube’s chaotic and fast paced style was much fun to play compared to Smackdown’s clunky laggy controls.
Tip for the long L and R button travel, the triggers won't activate for reversals until pushed all the way down, so you can just hold them down most of the way and then finish the press for reversals
To me this always felt like a spiritual sequel to No Mercy with the game engine they used. You could interrupt animations unlike smackdown series at the time.
My biggest gripe with day of reckoning 2 was that terrible stamina meter. The graphics were better, the wrestling engine was improved a little bit more, more wrestlers. But the freaking stamina meter, imagine playing a cage match and getting tired wile climbing up the cage? i freaking hated that game, i don't think that stamina works in wrestling games, but if they were going to include stamina they should have given us a button to press to raise instead of having to just stand and wait while the computer continues to attack. for that reason i never played the 2nd one, i always preferred the 1st one
My favorite memory from this game was my CAW, where I gave him Eddie's Theme with Christian's Titantron, and it matched up SO perfectly!!! Of course, I found out years later that you can put Mark Henry's "Somebody's Gonna Get It!!" theme with ANY Titantron and it also matches damn near perfectly.
Honestly, I only like the first game slightly more for the most nit-picky of reasons. It has a soundtrack. DoR2 just has like stock ambience music which just makes it feel like they ran out of time to license out music so they just threw together some okay generic tracks. Obviously not a deal breaker, DoR2 is absolutely the most refined game of these GC wrestling titles and you could easily fix that by just playing your own music in the background but still, would've been cool if DoR2 had a unique soundtrack.
I would definitely recommend day of reckoning 2 over day of reckoning 2 if not for one problem. During the second game's story mode, youre forced to go against hbk, christian, and kane in a fatal four way, steel cage match. I have owned the game for over 10 years and I still cant get past this match. Day of Reckoning 2's stamnia system was a huge let down and is the reason I choose the first one over the second.
For those who are interested in japanese wrestling. There are two japanese games on the PS2 called Wrestlekingdom 1 & 2, which both use the same engine as DOR.
Are those related to fire pro? Because New Japan has always had an agreement with FPW, i love all the Fire Pro games i’ve played, i have the most recent one on ps4 and my roster is so ridiculous.
@@Thor-Orion Yeah I think the GBA one might have the real license (Never played those though). But for all other console versions they usually don't have the licenses. Fire Pro is famous for all it's user generated wrestlers.
I liked both Day of Reckoning games, but I'll admit I like the first one just a little better. I like being able to choose which of the two main shows at the time I wanted to join (NXT wasn't an option yet). I wish that had continued with the sequel instead of railroading you onto the Raw path. Also, funnily enough, due to WWE's release scheduling, there was a while where Day of Reckoning 1 had more people on the roster at the time than DOR2 did. I did experience a hilarious glitch playing the Smackdown storyline though. At the start of it, it puts you in a match against the Big Show, and at this point your character is so weak that you're expected to lose to continue the story. However, for some reason, anytime he would hit me with the Showstopper, my character would just no sell it and jump right back up, so I ended up slowly whittling away his strength and being able to pin him. Even if you win though, the storyline still continues on as if you lost. Also, there is a point where you're forced to hit an opponent with a foreign object, getting yourself disqualified, to continue the story. However, I managed to slip outside the ring, pull the ref out of the ring, knocking him out for a bit, then grabbed a chair and beat the heck out of the opponent and pinned him for the "win". However, the game said "Nope!" and didn't count it. You have to lose that match to continue on. That part was slightly annoying. All in all though it's definitely a solid entry.
Playing through this again now, man the music is such a nostalgia trip. Almost brings a tear to my eye not only to a better time in the world in general but also to my own younger days, now at 40 I got various health complications kicking in, take me back to when I was carefree just enjoying life.
that's the one thing that I did prefer in Day Of Reckoning over The Smackdown games was when you could interrupt a finisher it just felt much more realistic. I mean how many times have we seen The Rock Clotheslined in the middle of The Peoples Elbow ?
This game was tons of fun. My only gripe is that Ironman match against HHH for the title. It didn't matter how many finishers I landed on him, he just would not stay down for a 3 count. Must have done about 25 finishers. I tried getting him counted out as well, but that didn't work either.
Day of Reckoning 2 My create a wrestler entrance was Kane's theme song with HHH's walk-up. "Slow Chemical" is one of those songs that makes me nostalgic for something I never experienced. Lol
I really love the character a wrestler options in WWE DOR. I made Yugo from Bloody Roar, The Predator, Venom and various Spidey alts to Sorcerous Stabber Orphen and Axel (SOR1 model) and Blaze (SOR 1& 2 models). I know there are others I can't remember as it been ages but those were my favs.
This was one of my favorite video games of all time back in the day as a kid I wish I had both copies of one and two. I wish I still owned a game to you. This is also the journey of my created, WWE character. A.k.a. my UFC character has been a part of these games and started his journey of championships over the years, the original prankster the original gangster, the godfather nfg kak nfggamingus but I love the story mode, and both of these games still to this day in the story. Modes of these games is a part of my characters story. Being part of evolution.
I'm totally ignorant to how games were developed for the PS2 and GC, but why couldn't Yukes and THQ just bring the collision detection from Day of Reckoning to Smackdown and SvR? That would've made the Smackdown game fun as hell
It is strange that that Nintendo 64 has the better games compare to PlayStation one but the roles are flipped when PlayStation 2 had the better games compare to GameCube.
It's hilarious when the ref gets bumped too much and then starts beating up the wrestlers. That's when it's time to restart the match. He'll never quit.
pure halal
Until he stunners you 😂
The thing is to you could have the game on the easiest mode and the ref would still go crazy 🤪.
I use to have this game don't know what I did with it
I swear to god the referee had the highest overall on the game 😂

Are those related to fire pro? Because New Japan has always had an agreement with FPW, i love all the Fire Pro games i’ve played, i have the most recent one on ps4 and my roster is so ridiculous.
@@Thor-Orion No they have no relation to Fire Pro. NJPW agreement with FPW is pretty recent (2018). These games are form 2005 and 2007.
Kaiser Rino really? Because i played a fire pro game for the gba back in the early 2000’s and tiger mask was in it in addition to maybe Muta?
@@Thor-Orion Yeah I think the GBA one might have the real license (Never played those though). But for all other console versions they usually don't have the licenses. Fire Pro is famous for all it's user generated wrestlers.
Kaiser Rino i know, i have World on ps4 and even with the license for NJPW, the highlight is still the catalogue of user crated wrestlers.
Rey Mysterio forgot his gloves in Day of Reckoning 2
Dude, that Bodies remix at the beginning is lit. Any chance where I can find the full version of that?
The nostalgia overload! Thank you for this!
I wish DOR 2 didn’t have a stamina system.
that's the one thing that I did prefer in Day Of Reckoning over The Smackdown games was when you could interrupt a finisher it just felt much more realistic.
I mean how many times have we seen The Rock Clotheslined in the middle of The Peoples Elbow ?
You still haven’t done a video for Day Of Reckoning 2
I was just about to comment that I was just looking for it
This game was tons of fun. My only gripe is that Ironman match against HHH for the title. It didn't matter how many finishers I landed on him, he just would not stay down for a 3 count. Must have done about 25 finishers. I tried getting him counted out as well, but that didn't work either.
The saved data I have on my memory card won't load. Could someone help please?
If it's corrupted on a GameCube memory card, most likely you gotta delete it. This used to happen to me with wwe WMXIX
Day of Reckoning 2
My create a wrestler entrance was Kane's theme song with HHH's walk-up. "Slow Chemical" is one of those songs that makes me nostalgic for something I never experienced. Lol
One of best wwe game ever
Dude the timing is insane. I just dusted off my old copy last week
I used to look at the "CAWs" online. Some of them were incredible.
Honestly to this day I think DOR is the funnest gameplay wise of the wrestling games
Great games, better than anything the smackdown series had to offer. Shame they didnt make a 3rd one.
I've never heard him cuss before
Omg! This man’s channel has grown so much! I need to join his patreon and help support his channel!
Think I'll settle down n chill with a nice wrestling bios vid
*intro hits. I end up head banging around my kitchen*
Cheers dude, I needed that 😎😁
I'm totally ignorant to how games were developed for the PS2 and GC, but why couldn't Yukes and THQ just bring the collision detection from Day of Reckoning to Smackdown and SvR? That would've made the Smackdown game fun as hell
Day of Reckoning was my ish
It is strange that that Nintendo 64 has the better games compare to PlayStation one but the roles are flipped when PlayStation 2 had the better games compare to GameCube.
Wwe day of reckoning is still a good gamecube game. 😀👍🎮
Videos like these make me feel like I was the only one that made me and my friends along with wrestlers that werent on there lol
Leaving a comment to support the channel
This game was fun to play, and the soundtrack was badass!
