Njpw or any Japanese companies are way worse. Njpw blocked a channel which made documentary about storyline and wrestlers frankly giving them more views
The mid card killed it overall with the show. Booker T and Saturn deserved major credit backstage for doing a match on the fly and making it look damn good. Awesome vid as usual!
Many don't know, but he was almost a 20yr vet and son of famous NWA star & trainer Jody Hamilton (The Assassin). Back in the 80s Refs needed to be very visual for the people in the cheap seats in house arenas, you can see the difference with Patrick and Hildebrand and their younger peers that started on TV
This is prime WCW comedy heel Jericho, the best Jericho: wearing the belt while he wrestles, pretending to be knocked out to get counted out (the fans at the rail were laughing their asses off at this), cocky pin, running around with his hands in the air saying Juvi tapped, etc. This is Jericho Prime.
When your such an avid watcher that you pick up the wrong number on the Goldberg streak immediately before you explained yourself, I love this series its a great educational aswell as entertaining walk through wrestling history. Keep up the great work!
Something you didn't mention about the Saturn vs Booker match, if the rumors are to be believed, Martel was supposed to win and face Saturn. But since the planned match was changed to Saturn vs Booker, that would mean both men would have had to call the entire match in the ring with no plan beforehand. That makes this match even more impressive since they pulled off a damn good bout, especially if it was called on the fly.
That’s the way the entire business used to be. There was very, very little “planning out” a match. The booker/promoter would tell the wrestlers who was going over, and it was up to them to construct the match in the ring. Saturn and Booker broke into the business when it was still this way, so they had the training and background to handle it.
The stage layout was used for superbrawl 7. Most layouts from 1997 were used again for 1998. Superbrawl, Spring Stampede, Great American Bash, Bash at the Beach, Fall Brawl, World War 3 & Starrcade were the events that used the layout from 1997 to 1998 albeit with minor differences.

Watched this PPV here with my father and his friends who were into wrestling but not as good with the current era... We're watching the Steiner Bros vs. Outsiders match & my dad was a big fan of the Steiners rooting them on as it progress... So when Scott turned on Rick to join the nWo, the hostility he had for Scott was unseen by me, a new fan to this wacky but fun world but in hindsight, that was the 1st time I saw someone got worked and it was outstanding 👏 😉 😀
Such a great time to be a fan. Even at 10 years old I could feel the pro wrestling world HEATING up without a doubt. I remember watching no way out the week before because it was during February vacation and my dad taped this one for me. I remember barely able to contain myself before I watching this tape because I didn't know what happened at all.
I think Juventud losing his mask should have helped him. If WCW weren't incompetent. Juventud has a unique and expressive face. He actually expresses himself more without the mask.

Rick Martell was tougher than most everyone during those days. All the boys from the AWA were conditioned to fight through pain, especially the graduates of Verne's training camp. Rick always took great care of himself and was a very safe wrestler, too. A real wrestlers' wrestler.
Many of his peers state he should have the title of 'Best Worker' as he would change his move set depending on his opponent, so you rarely saw the same Martel match twice. I recommend his matches vs Bockwinkel, Stan Hansen & Shawn Michaels. All amazing in their own way.
@@TheImapotato I saw an interview with Martel where he said Scott Hall warned him of the smaller ring and that it was the extra step(s) Booker took before the throw that caused the problem

And on the Booker T. versus Saturn match what makes that match even more impressive is the fact they had to call it on the fly as the original plan was Rick Martel versus Perry Saturn!
I think at this point, Bulldog, Luger and very likely Savage were starting to come out of their prime. Booker really showed up against Martel and Saturn. This is one of my all time favorite WCW PPV's. Everything about it was awesome and I used to rent the tape at some little video store in Jefferson, MD. Idk this ppv gets overshadowed as one of the greats. It's my favorite from 98 and it felt huge. Sting and Hogan delivered a great match and all of them were great. Wish we got Hart vs Flair on this show instead but a classic ppv for sure
As it relates to the Bulldog's condition in Bret's book after 'One Night Only' he mentioned that Davy's passion for wrestling died that day that after seeing a kid jump in the ring, he tried to take time off. Between that event and the incident in Montreal, I think he was trying to go through the motions.. until he could get his spark back.
Even though PPV posters is not popular as it was back in the day but a video of the best PPV posters between WWF and WCW would be nice, bring back a lot of memories....I think Starrcade 97 would be top 5
Booker was amazing wasn't he? Personally glad we're in 1998 now because soon will be his best of 7 series against Benoit. Technical marvels in every sense.
@@lavarivy2259 First time WCW had done a best of 7 since the NWA days with Jim Crockett promotions. It's like what Malenko and Guerrero did back in ECW.

"Nothing wrong, but nothing special" Yeah that sums up everything to do with Disco.
Correcting the Goldberg Streak Number to get the actual total:
YOU SIR ARE THE REAL MVP!
As it relates to the Bulldog's condition in Bret's book after 'One Night Only' he mentioned that Davy's passion for wrestling died that day that after seeing a kid jump in the ring, he tried to take time off. Between that event and the incident in Montreal, I think he was trying to go through the motions.. until he could get his spark back.
the phrase "working smart tonight, brother" makes me laugh every time
Also, the DDP vs Benoit storyline was DDP wanting a piece of the heat that Benoit vs Raven got, so it segues from DDP vs Benoit then to DDP vs Raven.
I remember buying this ppv and really enjoying this one.
I watched this the other day on “Peacock”. Macho Man was the MVP of the show and “DDP/Benoit” Was “MOTN”.
Even though PPV posters is not popular as it was back in the day but a video of the best PPV posters between WWF and WCW would be nice, bring back a lot of memories....I think Starrcade 97 would be top 5

“Call an ambulance…but not for me”!
Booker T's rise to greatness is awesome to relive!
Booker was amazing wasn't he? Personally glad we're in 1998 now because soon will be his best of 7 series against Benoit. Technical marvels in every sense.
@@TheEman590 I'm looking forward to seeing that again!
@@lavarivy2259 First time WCW had done a best of 7 since the NWA days with Jim Crockett promotions. It's like what Malenko and Guerrero did back in ECW.
I was at starcade 97 i was like 9 or 10 years old but yea it was a strange night lot of changes and confusion. Maybe that's why the crowd wasnt as hyped. This is my favorite time in wrestling history tho. Love watching these videos.
Wcw Mid card was so damn crazy!
I think I would call Goldberg's move a pumphandle fisherman's suplex
After last night wrestling bios has the whole world in his hands this great on a football Sunday
Great ppv. WCW delivering the goods. I could even get into the sting match. Good stuff.
Booker T was great and only getting better during this time
Here we go! Thank you, good sir.
