I've not missed a single episode lol the wife gets annoyed everytime I say "it's reliving the war day babe" lol the ppvs are especially interesting to me cuz I didn't get to watch a single one from either brand.

In a way, you could see what they wanted to do: create a more serious storyline built around a real life situation, and the WWE has been able to do more serious, blurring the line storylines nowadays well and with enough care given to them (sometimes you have to do some risqué things to illicit emotional responses). They made a similar like story work with the Jericho vs. CM Punk feud in 2012, which brought up the reasons CM Punk was "straight edge" (also because the two performers have always been able to pull those types of stories off well). Thing is, it felt like more exploitation than anything else with those two storylines due to them not knowing how to pull storylines like that off. If those stories happened with today's WWE, I bet they would've taken better care to it. Might have still been cringe to watch, but at least not as exploitive.
This channel has grown so much in a few years. I remember watching your early videos and, you’ve really gotten very good at narration and editing. Best wrestling channel on TH-cam, full stop.
Halloween Havoc 98 is a perfect example of dream matches on paper not turning out great in reality. If you looked at this card without having seen the PPV it's absolutely stacked! DDP v Goldberg, Hogan v Warrior, Nash v Hall, Steiner v Steiner, Sting v Bret. I think this is the point where fans started really losing faith in WCW with the messed up PPV ending and then showing the match on free tv the next night
I absolutely love how you have the WCW/nWo Revenge music in the background, it’s just an added bonus to an already excellent video! I don’t even always watch because I enjoy listening and sleeping to these just as much!
You can make a case here that DDP could have broken the streak here. It would have been a better ending to what we end up with at Starrcade 98. And we know what ends up leading to at the beginning of 1999.
If he won, Nitro might've held onto the ratings war and went back and forth a bit more going into 1999 a little longer. Goldberg was better at chasing the title, but holding it was boring.
They could've implented that spear on the ringpost as a way to stir controversy, claiming Goldberg concussed himself. Then Nash wins WW3 as planned, loses to DDP at Starrcade where Goldberg wins a nr1 contender's match. Laying the groundwork for a rematch further down the line.
Goldberg shouldn't have won the title period because doing so put him on the clock to lose. He was already mega over before winning it so why not simply push him as an unbeatable phenom where beating him is a bigger deal than the belt?
Page should have definitely ended the Streak here. By the time he gets the big one the following year it felt anti climatic. Which sums up WCW pretty well.
Goldberg's best ever match (in my opinion) and the match where he should've lost the streak. I know Nash is the bigger star but DDP winning here clean would've made him a mega star and barely anyone would've complained because the match was that damn good.
Nash was at one point some how got a creative control from wcw from what I heard / podcast I believe - however he claim he didn't booked it but there is a lot of debate about it.
AT THE VERY LEAST.. Their plan for him was logical. Build up another winning streak so Nash could break it, so then there's doubt about Nash/Goldberg. It's so rare that WCW thinks long term, that I had zero issues with this one.
Why was WCW so afraid of turning Buff Bagwell face? They had two good opportunities to do it and decided not to. I think having a face Buff would have been good during this time and you could have had him team up with Rick legitimately. instead, its just the same story over and over again and you can see why people got tired of it. I think that was a lot of what was causing problems for WCW during this time. Too much wanting to keep the status quo. EDIT: I forgot this was the PPV where it got cut out before the main event. And people had to be livid, because this was not only match of the night, but probably Goldberg's best match in his WCW run. And while his stock was already rising, I think this match helped elevate DDP even more.
Part of the reason the NWO storyline was almost insulting at this point is that every single NWO adjacent storyline is “this member is going to turn face we promise 1000% this time PSYCH! WHAT A SWERVE” They already did the Buff fake face turn at least three times this year. Warrior v. Hogan is what happen when pat Patterson is not pre scripting every move
NWO storyline should have ended shortly after Starrcade 97. Sting should have dethroned Hogan clean, leading to the split of the NWO shortly after. Issue was WCW had very little new ideas and the creative clause people such as Hogan had meant the older stars wouldn’t get out the way, so that new stars could be born. The Hogan VS Warrior match was all about Hogans ego and getting his win back, from 8 years prior. WCW heavily dropped the ball with Warrior, who let’s face it outside of the 80s and the early 90s, was very out of place in wrestling. By the time the Halloween Havoc match came around very few of the fans actually cared about the match.
They were overdoing it with swerves well before Russo arrived. Thing is, a Buff face turn could have done well, especially after his neck injury. Easy storyline to write, and they pissed it away.
I have so much nostalgia for the DDP Goldberg match. I had just barely gotten into wrestling and this was probably the second or third PPV I’d ever seen and I just remember being so enthralled and I loved both of them and couldn’t decide who should win. I didn’t want the streak to end but if DDP had broken it I wouldn’t have still been happy.
On paper this was an amazing card. Steiner vs. Steiner, Nash vs. Hall, Sting vs. Bret, Hogan vs. Warrior... those are some prime dream matches and main events for the 90s.
Aww yeah. Been waiting on this one. I saw this live in Las Vegas when I was a kid. Got my home made sign confiscated for being inappropriate. Even though looking back the show wasn't all that great, for me at 9 years old, it was magic.

The crowd reaction to the Steiner feud is indicative of how getting people invested in a payoff is always going to work. Rick was not going to be a singles star at this point, but was cheered like one for a few weeks. Just like a decade earlier when Virgil, yes Virgil, was also cheered like a top star when he finally stood up to the million dollar man. Again, Virgil was never going to headline WrestleMania as champion, but the few months after he turned on dibiase he was cheered like a top star.
Rick Steiner was impressive here. Still shocked by his comments about Trans people like Giselle Shaw, honestly she looks pretty despite not being biologically a woman
@BrianRobinson-pg7sh The vast majority of men aren't interested in seeing other men in a sexual way. T*s are offensive to straight men because it's viewed as if they're trying to trick or deceive dudes into seeing them as women. It's dishonesty; but it's stupid because it's pretty obvious to spot a man that's dressed as a woman. Not only are we expected to accept their "lived truth" they also try to force normal people into changing the way we speak around them. I'm not on board with any of it & I'm not going to be kind to these liars. I don't know what Steiner said, but he's an old school badass. They don't get much more masculine than the Steiners. So I would imagine he wasn't kind. More power to him.
It definitely was Hogan's fault. As warrior said in his shoot, Hogan didn't want to plan anything, he wanted to just feel it out and talk in the ring. Knowing damn well warrior has to be led for these big matches.
I held on with WCW after War Games. Even after that PPV hurt me as a 15 year old that saved the cash to buy it. I was done after seeing the Halloween Havoc dirt sheets the following morning. Fully committed to WWF after.
This was the second wrestling PPV I ever watched as a kid and it felt like a spectacle to me. Every match seemed huge and important, the set was awesome and they hyped the PPV for WEEKS much more than normal. While I was looking forward to Hogan vs Warrior, it was the DDP vs Goldberg match that solidified me as a wrestling fan and the one I was most excited for. I have pictures of back then and I am always doing the diamond cutter in them, he made me such a fan of his even though he lost. The match still holds up today and is probably the best WCW match ever, and was between two homegrown WCW stars, which were rare lol.
I was at this show in Las Vegas Followed by Monday Nitro in PHX. On my flight home several wrestlers were on flight I sat next to Doug Dillinger. I did not bother any of them they looked angry. Especially Eddie Guerrero at Sky Harbor baggage claim.
You can easily see where WCW went wrong. And, of course, it all really started to show those cracks and unravel all the way back at Starrcade 97. Unfortunately, Goldberg vs. DDP was a bright star in a sea of garbage. Good luck to us all going through the rest of the "war." lol
35:16 look at the guy in the green shirt front row. The absolute shock and excitement on their face when they turn to their friend like “Oh my God it’s actually happening!” *THAT* is what makes wrestling amazing!
Let's face it. There was no way that Hulk and Warrior were going to repeat or succeed their epic encounter at Wrestlemania VI. That match stunk worse than unwashed gym socks. As for the main event, maybe if they dropped some unneeded segments such as the Nitro Girls, then maybe those who purchased the show would've seen the entire main event. Even though they played it on Nitro the next night, many viewers felt robbed.
Yeah and it's surprising that nobody in WCW realised this thing. Hogan carried warrior at mania 6 and 1998 Hogan was simply too beaten up to carry ultimate Warrior in a match. That's the reason why Hogan took all the responsibility for this match
It’s great getting to see a look back at og wcw payper views. Still remember that Friday night war of wcw tnt in the uk at 9pm . And raw at 10pm . The days I miss.
I'm the type who could see some conspiracy in this PPV. I get the feeling that it was front loaded and padded to hell with throwaway matches, pointless promos and the Nitro Girls just to cut down on the main event on purpose just so Hogan/Warrior could truly be the last match.
This was my first WCW PPV I attended live. It's a shame that thebfeed cut off for most, because I easily consider this Goldberg's best match. Sure, they replayed it on nitro the next night but there was no suspense to it by then. Playing Monday morning quarterback, I would have saved DDP versus Goldberg for Starrcade, and put Page over clean. He deserved it, and would've continued to be massively over with the fans. Oh well..
I agree it's Goldberg's best match by far and that DDP should have gone over. He was one of the few bright spots in WCW at the time and him winning the belt may have led to me watching more Nitro.
0:31 Don't you mean WCW 'Slash' nWo Halloween Havoc? Hogan was really excited about that 'slash' in that video and now I'm obsessed with it. You should seriously use it as a soundbite in a future RTW video. I'm sure there will be somewhere it can be used.
How was WCW available in the UK back in the day? I can only remember WWF being on Sky Sports and then some highlights on Sky One. I do remember flicking over to it once and seeing Vampiro but no idea the channel. It was a lot harder to watch WCW in UK if I recall, no one I knew really watched WCW
@@SubZero589 It was definitely on Channel 5 and I remember Channel 4 showing Sunday Night Heat as well as ITV and TNT also having WCW shows for a while.
Goldberg/DDP was shown the next night on Nitro and the announcers hyped it as a special treat and a bold move to show the previous night's main event for free. I was unaware at the time that they had no choice but to show it due to WCW's screw up.
DDP shouldve won the title that night. It wouldve made the ppv way more memorable as well as given Goldberg something to come back from and build towards.
I'm not sure if I'm ready to watch this. At least there's the DDP/Goldberg match. DDP should've won. Not sure if it's mentioned here but DDP (obviously) thinks giving him the win would've been the right move, and I agree. Should've built him up as the huge underdog and gave him the win like Tyson losing to Douglas. Would've been a cool story.
If Goldberg didn’t get hot in 1998 I feel like DDP would have won the title. They waited to long to pull the trigger on him and then they turn him heel because WCW can’t give fans any happy ending
Tonight men as close as brothers torn apart by vice, a hit man trying to take his shot against a scorpion, two titans of the industry do the dance one more time in a clash of block buster proportions, and the world heavy-*thank you for watching.*
I've never found a source to back this up, but I heard from the rumor mill that the original plan waa for DDP to beat Goldberg. The week of the PPV was when TV Guide had a series release with different WCW guys on the covers and Goldberg's had him with the belt. Apparently either Bischoff or Kevin Sullivan said if people then tuned into Nitro and Goldberg wasn't champ it would confuse them.
It is still crazy to me to think that it was only 8 years between the two Hogan/Warrior matches. When I was a kid that was a lifetime. Now that I’m an adult it seems like nothing.
We deserve credit for sticking this one out? Nah man, you deserve credit for watching, taking notes, critiquing, editing and uploading a video for this train wreck of a show. However, I an glad you did, absolutely love this series
This show features so many things. Goldberg’s best match that goes more than 5 minutes, the bizarre sight of Wolfpac Sting with a goatee, and one of the worst matches in the history of wrestling featuring arguably the biggest name in wrestling history and one of the most amazing wrestling stages ever.
Cheers to DDP vs Goldberg for not only being a great match, but securing the last Nitro ratings victory ever 👏👏👏
And securing a boatload of people their ppv buy money refunded, too...🤣👍 Honestly, not Goldberg and Page's fault but it still happened...
“That doesn’t work for me brother, the business has never walked a mile in my red and yellow boots brother”
Imagine the crowd reaction if he won.
They would've blown the roof off as one of the best WCW Title Wins.
It figures WCW’s last Monday night win would come as a result of them catastrophically screwing up a PPV broadcast.

I've been looking forward to finally getting to this video. WCW's first PPV in ages where the main event has no association with the nWo
Incredibly good point! Never thought of that!
@@toptenguy1 Thanks. Last WCW PPV to my recollection that had no nWo in the main event was the 1996 Great American Bash

It's sad and crazy that WCW and WWF (at the time) had exposed Scott Hall and Road Warrior Hawk's substance abuse at the same time.
So true. No need for either story line at all either. They should have done better.
Meanwhile Sting was actually having issues behind the scenes.
@@TimTE01 So were Hall and Hawk, actually. You make it sound like they weren't.

Love those old thematic WCW PPV sets. Halloween Havoc and Bash at the Beach were the best.
Been waiting to hear you cover DDP v Goldberg ever since this show started building
Have we ever seen The Mufuggin One perform a chinlock? I’m not sure the world could handle such a deadly force.
Oh you should’ve seen when ddp went to wwe he was a amazing there…..no really
I was at this show in Las Vegas Followed by Monday Nitro in PHX. On my flight home several wrestlers were on flight I sat next to Doug Dillinger. I did not bother any of them they looked angry. Especially Eddie Guerrero at Sky Harbor baggage claim.
Because he was left off the PPV?
Wrestling Bios,I admire your bravery! I will never watch Warrior vs Hogan 2 again.😂😂
You can easily see where WCW went wrong. And, of course, it all really started to show those cracks and unravel all the way back at Starrcade 97. Unfortunately, Goldberg vs. DDP was a bright star in a sea of garbage.
Good luck to us all going through the rest of the "war." lol
That Goldberg leg sweep reversal was insane I always knew he was beast In his earlier days but that caught me off guard 🔥
35:16 look at the guy in the green shirt front row. The absolute shock and excitement on their face when they turn to their friend like “Oh my God it’s actually happening!” *THAT* is what makes wrestling amazing!
It's easy to "slog through" this stuff when you make it so entertaining to watch. Keep up the good / hard work!
I finished eating lunch and saw this recommended for me! Great way to relax after eating lunch! Great way to spend almost 40 minutes of my Sunday!
Bro the buff bagwell coming back in the bill Clinton mask had me dying 😂😂😂
It’s great getting to see a look back at og wcw payper views. Still remember that Friday night war of wcw tnt in the uk at 9pm . And raw at 10pm . The days I miss.
Goldbergs entrance was epic for this PPV.
As a huge Bret Hart fan as a kid, I was really disappointed with how WCW handled him.
I remember my dad recorded this for me. It was very special.
I miss the elaborate production entrances that WCW/WWF used to have back in the 90's.
Elaborate but not over the top like todays.
I'm the type who could see some conspiracy in this PPV. I get the feeling that it was front loaded and padded to hell with throwaway matches, pointless promos and the Nitro Girls just to cut down on the main event on purpose just so Hogan/Warrior could truly be the last match.
Thank you for the great effort you always put with these @WrestlingBios! Best ways to spend Sunday’s and anytime you release new videos.
When watching your videos, I accidentally hit ‘like’ and never knew when..
DDP and Goldberg had the best match of the night and nobody at home saw it
You did this PPV way more justice then it deserves. It’s kinda sneaky good.
😃
Wrestling Bios = The Greatest
Looking forward to this one for ages
How was WCW available in the UK back in the day? I can only remember WWF being on Sky Sports and then some highlights on Sky One. I do remember flicking over to it once and seeing Vampiro but no idea the channel. It was a lot harder to watch WCW in UK if I recall, no one I knew really watched WCW
That would've been either Channel 5 which had WCW Worldwide or Bravo that showed Nitro for a while.
@@Eddie-lm3jf Was it on channel 5? I remember WWF having some ppvs on channel 4. 2000 I think. I remember Bravo, such a good channel that
@@SubZero589 It was definitely on Channel 5 and I remember Channel 4 showing Sunday Night Heat as well as ITV and TNT also having WCW shows for a while.
Woo-hoo! Another RTW. Thanks, my friend.
Goldberg/DDP was shown the next night on Nitro and the announcers hyped it as a special treat and a bold move to show the previous night's main event for free. I was unaware at the time that they had no choice but to show it due to WCW's screw up.
Greatest wrestling channel to ever exist on TH-cam.
The one we've all been waiting for, brother.
that goldberg entrance is iconic though
DDP shouldve won the title that night. It wouldve made the ppv way more memorable as well as given Goldberg something to come back from and build towards.
The Goldberg entrance on this PPV was f****** amazing!
Especially given how the streak eventually ends. Another case of WCW choosing to prevent stars from being created.
Would have been better than how the steak eventually ended.
If Goldberg didn’t get hot in 1998 I feel like DDP would have won the title. They waited to long to pull the trigger on him and then they turn him heel because WCW can’t give fans any happy ending
Lol no. You aren't thinking right. You just like DDP.
"What a guy, what a F**kin* guy!" 😅😂 Awesome
Tonight men as close as brothers torn apart by vice, a hit man trying to take his shot against a scorpion, two titans of the industry do the dance one more time in a clash of block buster proportions, and the world heavy-*thank you for watching.*
They did all this..and Rick Steiner really got no singles push after this match.
Another awesome upload from the wrestling channel with the most jam on the planet!
I just love all your reliving the war videos, I can't believe we're getting already close to the end of the nwo !
Dude, thank you for everything!!! I love these videos!!
