The biggest problem I see with the whole Chibson thing is, not whether you want one for yourself. If you want one, buy one. My problem is with that guy who passes a Chibson off as the real thing and rips somebody off. I don't think a real guitar lover would do it, but we all know those people are out there, just waiting to take advantage of somebody.

I just got a custom one made and told them to put their name on the back of the headstock so you’ll never be able to do that. This way, the maker is also putting their name on the work.

Dang, man. First time viewer, love your work. Couldn't agree more about the stolen Valor stuff. But I gotta say, I'm an old guy, 67 and change. My social security would NEVER cover even an entry level Gibson. But for $308 to my door, I got a chibby 3 pickup SG that absolutely smokes! SINCE I bought it under no illusions, and tell everyone who admires it what it is, and would NEVER sell it, no not never, I think no one is hurt (no even Gibson, since I wasn't gonna buy one anyway). Had 2 years of joy from that guitar, and I ain't sorry for a bit of it. Peace.

I'm an Army vet. I don't think it's at all like stolen valor. It's just business. Gibson are merely too greedy. If their instruments were worth the money, I wouldn't complain.
If Gibson weren't so blatantly cash grabbing, (making so many substandard "limited editions"), I would never consider buying a Chibson. However, Gibson are, and I am.

The “Gibsons” used on Guns and Roses Appetite For Destruction” were Counterfeit guitar made by LA Luthiers. Ironically Gibson sells several Slash signature LP marketed as Gibsons were the originals weren’t Gibsons for $3.2k!! Each…Although Henry is gone, the BS goes on. Gibson guitars deserve the Chibsons for overcharging, raising prices, gouging the consumer, and alienating the Mom and Pop guitar shops. And yes there are top of the line Gibsons that need to be Scarred Guitar (sent out in need of a set up) yes Guitar Center I am referring to you…

I love my Gibson SG ,but I feel like Gibson has gone way to expensive! That's why I probably never buy another one. I'd rather buy a Chibson or any other type guitar that's affordable and rebuild it myself, Shawn! You did an excellent rebuild on that Greeny! If I wouldn't have this Cancer and now really can't afford to purchase even a cheap Chibson or any other type guitar right now , but I'm winning the battle so far, soon I will be able to purchase one and get you to rebuild it!

I bought a Chibson to use on stage and not take my expensive Les Paul and get it stolen or broken.
Mine looks fabulous and plays very well. Replaced the pickups with PAF pickups from GFS.
AND...I replaced the nut and tuners.
Other than that, it plays like my real Gibson and sounds just the same for $480, total including the extra parts.
Now, if someone knocks my LP over, I will not go mental....as my real LP is safely at home on the wall.

Good video man, that took a lot of work and patience. I recently bought a Chibson double cut Junior from a guy who had ordered it direct from one of those Chinese sites. I bought it to get it off the market and make a project guitar out of it. What got my goat was when I was taking it apart that it had Epiphone parts on it. Epiphone was engraved on the bridge. The keys were definitely the same keys that Epiphone uses. Pickup from Japan and pots from South Korea. Makes me wonder if someone from Epiphone isn't behind some of these Chibsons. Have a good one and Merry Christmas to you, your wife and family.

It's only counterfeit if you try to sell it as a genuine Gibson. I have a copy 335 - I swapped out the tuners with Grovers, Epiphone pickups with Golden Age, mickey mouse pots and switch with CTS and switchcraft. It plays and sounds great - and it didn't cost me 3500 bucks and I'm not worried about scratches or it getting lifted as much as if it were a genuine one. When people ask about it, I tell them it is a Chinese copy. A quick way to tell the difference is to look at the truss rod adjuster - Chinese use Allen sockets , Gibson use acorn nuts. I also have a genuine 57 Les Paul Custom - with an acorn nut - but it cost me a fortune and I never take it out of the house - now that was a waste of 7500.

Do Any Of You Know Why Gibson Stopped Making Les Pauls In 1961/62 ?, Well Here's Why The Sales Of Both Gold Top And The Sunburst, Plain And Flame Tops Just became So Poor They Decided To Stop Making Them, The Were A $200.00 Dollar Guitar, The Custom Les Paul In Black With Three Pickups As Opposed To The P90 In The Bridge Position And Rectangular/Staple Pole Piece Pick Up In The Neck Position, P90 Size Footprint Was Known As The Fretless Wonder Also In Black, The Custom Models Were All Mahogany NO MAPLE CAP And Were $300.00 Guitars, Chicao Musical Instrument Company Part Of Baldwin Piano Company Owned Them At That Point And To Mid Sixties Ish.
These Les Pauls Sunbursts Some Flame Top And Some Plain Top Had The Mythical Tone, NOT ALL OF EITHER OF THEM THOUGH, Then Mike Bloomfield Was Using Les Pauls To Play Blues, This Apparently Inspired Clapton, Page, Beck, To use Les Pauls, Then They Became Sought After, The SG Introduced To Replace Them, To Hopefully Boost Sales, Les Paul Did Not Like Because He Found The Neck Joint Moved To Easily It Was Not Stable, It Flexed Easily, So Asked guison To Remove His Name From The Under His Royalty Deal,.
Meanwhile A Company Produced A Bolt On Neck COPY, LP With A Headstock Style That Was Like The Gibson Headstock, This Was The LAW SUIT GUITAR, THE ONLY LAW SUIT GUITAR IN FACT AND JAPANESE And that Head Stock was The Trade Mark Design, That Company Was Ibanez They And Gibson Settled Out Of Court, So Ibanez Created A Different Profile Headstock, Sometime Around 1966/1967, Gibson Reintroduced The Les Paul, And Called It Special which Being A Carved Top It was Not, It Had P90 single Coils Again, These Gave way To Epiphone Mini Humbuckers In Cream And Also Eventually Black P90 Plastic Surrounds With a Rectangle Cutout In ThemTo Accomodate The Mini Humbucker And Their Mounting in The P90 Size Routings, This version Was Named The Les Paul Deluxe, Was In Gold Top Or Sunbursts Of Cherry Or Tobbaco, NONE OF THE EARLIER DISCONTINUED LES PAULS WERE EVER KNOWN AS STANDARDS, Norlin Corporation, Purchased Gibson Somewhere Along The Sixities/Seventies As An Aquisition, It Is Said , Norlin's Business Was Far Removed From Guitar Manufacturing, Cost Cutting was Levelled At Norlin As The Dishededge To All Les Pauls Dissapeared And Headstock Angles On Les Pauls Stopped Being 17 Degrees, Becoming 14 Degrees, The Low E Bridge Pin On Tunamatics Was Too close To The Bridge Pickup On The Bass Side Of The Bridge Preventing Setting Correct Intonation Of That String And Other Quality Issues, Three Piece Mahogany Maple Mahogany Necks Etc.
The Les Paul Standard Was Introduced In The Norlin Owned Gibson Catalogue/Catalog In 1974, With Humbucking Pick Ups , With Pickup Mounting Rings, Which Were Too Shallow In Height, Unlike The 50s/60s Les Pauls With Carved Tops And Dished Upturned Edges To The Tops, Bridge Pickup Ring, 1/2 Inch High On Bridge, (Pick Up), Long Side And Fret Board,(Pick Up), Mounting Ring 1/4 Inch High On Opposite Longside Side To Fretboard Long Side Of The Ring, The 1974 and To Later In To The 1980s Pickup Mounting Rings Were Both On Customs And The Standard ?, (Nothing Like The Originals, So Standard ?), Were 3/8th Inch On Long Side Next To Bridge, Mounting Ring, With A 3/16th Inch Long Side Opposite The Fretboard, (Rythm Pickup) Side Of The Mounting Ring, The Late 50s Les Paul Custom, Used three Humbucking Pickups 1/2 Inch Height, Bridge Pick Up, Mounting Ring 3/8th Inch Middle Pickup, Mounting Ring, And 3/16th Inch Fret Board Pick Up, Mounting Ring, This Allows The Correct Angle Of The Three Rings Line From Bridge To Fret Board Edge, With Regards To The Neck Angle, Which Was Slightly Greater On Those 50s/60s Les Pauls
Gibson Owned Norlin Made their FirstTry At a Reissue Flame And Quilt Top Les Paul Two Full Size Humbuckers 50s/60s Les Paul, Notice I Do Not Call It A Standard, With The Gibson Heritage 80 And Heritage 80 Elite Models, Flame Or Figured Top Rosewood Fretboard And Elite Quilted Maple, Ebony Fretboard, Using Grover Tuning Machines, Instead Of The Correct, Tulip Button Twin Screw Mounting Kluson Style Tuning Machines.
Eventually Henry Jusewicki And Business Partners Purchased The Gibson Guitar Company By Late Eighties Early Ninties, And Started To Try To ge Correct Style Reissues In To Production., New Owners I Have Not Caught Up With Yet Who is Current.
Tokai, Les P Love Rock, Japanese Made, Early Eighties To Late Eighties, Fenandes/Burny Les P RLC AND RLG Series Japanese, Made In Same Factory Apparently As Tokai, Not Fenandes/Burny, Fender Replicas Though,

Last Words Are The Chinese Do Use Quality Woods Dried Properly And Correct Construction Mahogany Bodies/ Maple Caps Many Are Not Veneers, The Wrong Bridges Or Schaller Wide Travel Tunamatics With Bridge Insert Bushes In Stead Of Correct ABR1 Style, Wrong Toggle Switch Nut, Pots Can Be Full Size And Correct Log Audio Taper Law 500K Ohms For Both Tones and Volumes Correct Cream Plastic Jack Socket Plate But All These And The Tokais/Fenendes Burny Above Use Larger No 2 Philips Headed Raised Countersink Nickel Plated Back Plate Control Cover Jack Socket Plate Screws Unlike Gibson's No 1 Phillips Raised Head Countersunk UK Size No 6 Wood Screws, Dont Know The American Size Number For These, Just About 3/16 Of An Inch Thread Diameter.
Gibson In Japan Has Their ORVILLE brand With Open Book Headstock, Les Pauls, SGs, 335s/355s, ESP Has Their Very Accurate Replicas In Japan, Also Edwards Branded Japan Accurate Again, Japanese 70s /80s Made Aria Les Pauls/Pro II Les Pls, Fixed Neck, Correct Headstocks Too, Though The Wider 70 Gbs Headstocks As Fitted To Norlin Produced Gbs, Plus Jedsons Made japan 70s/80s Bolt Neck, Possibly at Fujigen Gakki.
Any Name Can Be On The Headstocks No MADE IN USA Or Serial Numbers Stamped as Gbs Need To Be Placed To Con On Back Of The Headstock, Use Correct Truss Rod Though As Tokai/ Fenandes/Burny Did In The Eighties With A Two Screw Hole Truss Rod Cover, Can Be Any Shape As Oppossed To a Bell, It Makes The Headstock Slightly Stronger Too, Less Cavity To Weaken That Area, Better Still Gibson Could Contract These Brands To Manufacture Accurate Budget Models For Those Can Not Afford Mega Bucks/Pounds.
Gibson Have Started Putting Open Book Headstock On Epiphone Les Pauls Now. Good.
Gibson's Main Rivals In The 1920s To 1950s Were Epiphone and Stromberg For Jazz Bodied Guitars, Epiphone's Emperor Was The Largest Jazz Body Guitar Of Those Years As Both Acoustic And Electrified, With Pick Ups, Les Paul's Log ws Conceived By Les paul In Epiphone's Factory, In Evenings And Weekends As He was Both A Customer and Friends With Epi.
The Log Was a Piece Of Railway Sleeper With The Neck, Pick Ups And Bridge All Mounted To It With Emperor Wing Body Sections Toggle Latched To Bass And Treble Sides Of The Solid Centre To Present It as Guitar Like Jazz Bodied Instrument,
Les Paul Originally Played It Sans These Refinements, As Apparently, It Caused An Odd Reaction From Audiences, Distracting Them Somehow, Fitted the Wings and That Solved The Reactions.
Anyone Notice The Similarity To The, ES 335/345/355, Solid Centre block, The Log Is The Definite Fore Runner Of The Gibson ES/Electric Spanish Semi Solid Guitars Centre Block By At least Ten To Fifteen Years. Your allusion of the medals made so much sense to me… you know I’ve seen on eBay a knock of of Mike ness 1976 Les Paul gold top reliced and it looks good . 330$ but , if I’d get it I’d ask them to put 1945 on the headstock ( one of his song title) instead of Gibson. ❤

Another fantastic scar Sean. I should have you scar the one I'm playing in my profile pic. It's a 1975 (pre-lawsuit) Ibanez Deluxe '59er (2351M). I messed up the finish years ago. I also wore out the original neck. The replacement is awesome. Just need it refinished. Maybe could be buffed out but if I were to do it I thing I'd want fresh pickups put in. Seymour Duncan SH-6s in there now. Plays like butta.

What tools do I need and should I just buy a 'luthiers kit' to begin with? Being I'm just learning how to work on guitars, I really cant afford to invest in quality tools atm. 🤔

As long as it is sold without the Gibson or whatever brand they are knocking off's logo, then im okay with Chibsons, particularly when some of them are as good or better (or can be) than the flagship brand for a weeks worth of Mcdonalds meals money. Then do exactly what Sean did and drop in a couple SH18 whole lotta humbuckers for 100-200 used/new, change the tuners, oil the nut, and wala!

A replica is one thing but my biggest issue with Chibsons is that they could easily be set with after market pickups and passed off as 'real' not saying on a large scale but why spend your money on something like a Chibson in stead of a Harley Benton or Firefly guitar

@@terrorbirds9835 Sounds to me like you're the one with anxiety , just because I take care of my guitar's doesn't mean I don't enjoy playing them. I just don't beat on them or bang them around , I play at home and put my guitars in the racks when done , it's actually pretty simple. There's no reason any guitar should be all dented and scratched up if you're playing it normally , of course you'll get some scratches around the pickguard and wear on the fretboard. That's different from your guitar looking like it fell off a roof...

Replaced all the electronics with EMG Revelation pickups and EMG solderless electronics. Replaced the tuners with Wilkinson locking tuners, bridge and tailpiece are Wilkinson now. Replaced the nut with a bone nut. She’s a monster now. I hate that they put the Gibson Logo on these. I think chibby’s would sell better if the headstocks were straight blank.

They DO sell with many headstocks: "10s" "Harley Benton" "Firefly" "Glarry" etc. The people ordering chibsons want a "facsimile" or "replica'. You could start a guitar company just ordering chibsons with your logo and reselling them. (like Harley Benton etc).

Honestly, I want folks to see that I only need a Grote guitar and a solid state amp and a few fx to pull off a gig.
I would feel goofy showing up to a gig that paid 100$ per man with a 3000$ guitar and a boutique amp.
If I needed 5000$ worth of gear to play a bar gig, then I probably should choose another occupation.🤔

I have to politely CONCUR, I do not know if Gibson has a quiet side window agreement with China Manufactures or Not, I do find the logos distasteful, if if going to be faked or forced patina it should reflect playing, I don`t get the tweekers tact on the back that don`t even look like any buckle rash I ever saw. If Gibson is Greenlighting the forgeries the logo then SHOULD reflect that call it a Chibson so some new collector is not taken for the ride.
