    QUESTIONS:
    - How to get clear or white backgrounds on my scanned illustrations?
    - What edits are usually made when an illustration is scanned and why and why?
    - Do you scan or take a picture? What to do if I don’t have a scanner?
    - What software do you use? Do I need to learn Photoshop?
    - What color profile to use?
    - Best DPI for scanning watercolor illustration?
    - Best file types? Best file type to print from? Is there an expected file type for commercial clients?
    - Difference between JPG, TIFF and PDF?
    - Is there a standard/expected size for commercial clients?
    - How to scan big art? How to deal with the pieces not matching up?
    - How to handle watercolor without clear edges; How to digitize metallic watercolor
    - How can I ensure that a scanned drawing will be sharp when magnified?

    My scanner: amzn.to/2U5LwSx
    Affordable alternative: amzn.to/3a7DI8y
    NOTE ABOUT SCANNERS:
My scanner can scan at a higher pixel density than the affordable alternative, but that is really only relevant to large reproductions. If you are scanning things in and reproducing at or close to the same size (I.e. scanning a 5x7 and printing a 5x7) you’ll be good to go with the Canon.

This is great! I use the Epson V600 and Photoshop Elements 2018 for digitizing my watercolor paintings, Epson Sure color P800 for printing. I find that PSE *usually* does a great job of blending multiple scans together seamlessly (sometimes I need to check my alignment on the scanbed). Something I don't hear people talk about a lot is sharpening the final scan. If you don't sharpen, it will produce blurry prints. Rather than doing this at the scanner level, I prefer to work in PSE as each painting is a little different. I use a high pass filter at 1-2 and overlay. You don't want to know how long it took me to figure out how to get a physical print that matches the original painting. Kendyll's videos are like gold.

Thanks for this! 💗 I totally relate to never knowing when a digital piece is finished and spending too long figuring it out!!

Thanks, Mel! Glad to know I'm not alone! So many people talk about preferring digital and feeling more relaxed with digital because they know they can go back or erase, but to me that just feels like trying to choose between 100 different salad dressings -- I can never be happy!

To stitch scanned pieces together I use Microsoft ICE :) Highly recommending that one. It only makes problems when you have larger areas that are only one color ... but for everything else it's awesome.

What format would you use to have a children’s booked printed by a traditional printer? What resolution?!What DPI is needed for traditional offset printing? What printing method would use for a full color art children book. The illustrations are really lovely and I want high quality printing / has digital printing reached the color quality of offset printing.

Terrific information. Can I remove the background and digitize watercolor with the Pixelmator ipad version? Using an Apple pencil and my ipad Pro?

Do you recommend having a separate scanner or use the one on the top of your copy machine like an Epson 7710?

    • @KendyllHillegas
      @KendyllHillegas  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

It all depends on the quality of the scanner. From what I've seen, most of the integrated scanners aren't capable of the same resolution as the stand alone ones.

GIMP is an opensource program (free) that is very much like photoshop. Thanks for the scanner recommendations. I was looking for one on a budget as I am just starting to do art prints and am not sure if they will sell well yet or not and want to get my toes wet so to speak. Hoping they do well and I can upgrade in the future.

That's great! I've heard others recommend it too. Thank you for sharing. You can certainly go with a less expensive scanner to start, (I think Canon has some decent ones) or you can even take 5-10 illustrations to your local print shop and have them scan them for you. Usually only costs a couple bucks per scan.

Hi, thank you for the great content. I have a question. I have physical oil paintings made with spatula. I would to create a virtual 3d reproduction of them. I haven't understood if the printers you mention are 2d or 3d, do you have any suggestion for me? Thanks a lot.

I have been thinking of getting the epson 370 which you were using in your original video on scanning but have noticed here that you are now using v600 which is much more expensive? Are you getting a better quality scan from the v600? I would be very grateful for your opinion on this.

I use the V370. Very happy with. V600 will be beter I guess but depends on your goal. I am not so professional (yet :) so i choosed a cheaper one for now.

99% of all the artists that have ever lived wouldn't understand 99% of this.👐 (Pre historic cave painting, not jazz hands)
