    Helpful in so many ways-I happened to have the same Epson scanner, which I like aLOT, and I learned about some of the settings watching you. But maybe more important, I have wondered for a long time if there was an easier way to clean up a scanned painting-like some magical things I didn’t know. Turns out, you do it the same way I do. Great tutorial. I have been watching digitising videos to see if there are methods I hadn’t tried yet (yours is the best I have seen so far) which might be quicker. In your video you mention that the adjustment layers are only for the entire image, but you can actually make them for custom areas by creating a clipping mask in the white rectangle next to the adjustment icon in the layers panel. You can use the paint brush to paint black the areas you don’t want adjusted. Or you can use fill to paint the whole mask black and then paint in white to show the areas you want adjusted.

    Hi Cathy. I just found your chanel today and you are a gift from god. You're so patient and thorough. I'm loving this video in particular because I draw in ink and shade in pencil which leaves shadows on the white paper that aren't really noticiable until the drawing is printed. I'm completely new to photoshop and I'm using the most recent 2022 version. I get to the part where you say to make a new layer, save as 'white BG' and then change it to dark grey. Well I am following your instructions to the letter until I get here. I don't have a tin of paint icon on the side tool bar. I've tried changing the layer to dark grey by just clicking on the top one of the foreground and background icon. Nothing happens. It just remains as a chequer board. I've tried seven or eight times. It wont change. Can you advise what I might be doing wrong please? Thank you, Jane

    Thanks for sharing!! I have a question though, why is your file RGB? shouldn't you use CYMK for printing? Thank you again!!

    • @EasySundayClub
      @EasySundayClub  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi JZ. Good question and found a good answer on Quora: “In general, create your work in RGB if you don’t know what your final display/print process will be. It has a wider colour gamut and it’s a screen native colour mode when working on a computer.
      Many fine art prints are printed on a digital multi-ink printer (eg inkjet printers which may have more than just CMYK inks) will reproduce better from an RGB original.
      You may need to convert to CMYK later if supplying to a printer using only process inks.
      Note: if you are producing art to be specifically be printed in CMYK, you might be better off working in CMYK mode for the original. (eg a commission for a printed book or magazine). This will avoid unexpected conversions of colour between the 2 modes, particularly bright saturated hues which can convert to duller equivalents in CMYK. However, when working in CMYK, some software will reduce the number of manipulation tools & filters you have at your disposal compared to RGB mode, so plan a little ahead.”

I wouldn’t recommend taking a photo of your art since it’s difficult to control the lighting and angles, but maybe there’s a good one out there I’m not aware of. If you're drawing and not using any wet medium (watercolor, acrylic, etc.), most paper will work. Some paper will work better for certain mediums than others, like if you are drawing with charcoal, there are papers for that. The scanning process is the same and you can still use the same techniques to remove dust/noise from your drawing digitally!

      2 things I can think of is 1: check your color selection (bottom left of tool bar to make sure the background color is gray), 2. make sure you don't have a colored "Background" layer locked.

    I have a question. So, I have success with your tutorial until I go to print. When I print my watercolor picture my lettering turns out bluish grey. Also if I have Photo Shop print it prints a cream color background but when I save to my computer and print it has a transparent background but my black lettering is bluish gray. Any ideas?

    I have a question why do we have to clean the white part around jaguar? If it's white color, when printed on white paper it wouldn't show. Isn't it?

      Good question! There is texture and shadow in the watercolor paper that is picked up by the scanner. I like having a clean white space in my scans so I have to clean all that noise out. Hope that makes sense! Thank you!

    Why not just use the pen tool? Or the "select and mask" option?

      That could work but for watercolor edges I find that I needed more versatility.
