I find this advice to be extremely helpful! I've spent a long time trying to pinpoint a particular style, which has only left me feeling increasingly frustrated because although I appreciate many different styles, I don't necessarily enjoy the process that's involved in creating them. It makes a lot more sense to focus on identifying the process that I truly enjoy working in!
I'm finding that the process I love is the watercolor and colored pencil mixed media illustration style that you demonstrated in several of your Skillshare classes! I'm not creating at the level of realism that you do but I'm really enjoying creating art again after many years (on and off) of blocks. Your work has literally shifted my mindset and brought back the joy of art again! I can't thank you enough, Kendyll.
This is excellent. I don't know why no one else has come up with this method of identifying what each person truly enjoys doing in the process of making art. It seems so obvious, now that you've pointed it out, and the method of discovery. Love doing X, but dislike Z. Adjust so X is the focus and either eliminate Z or minimise it. So simple, yet brilliant!
This is such a genius idea! Thanks for breaking it down in actionable steps. I've been switching from one art technique to another and I always feel frustrated that I can't find a consistent way of creative expression. After listening to this podcast, I think I have a better idea why that happens. I like some of the processes or techniques I've tried but I'm always judging my art based on the product. I'll try doing the PETs and see what comes up. Thanks again!❤
Wonderful message, Kendyll! I’ve been learning Procreate the past few months and often get discouraged after completing tutorials because I can’t seem to “get it right” after trying the methods and techniques that are taught. I press forward and remind myself that the tutors have had years to perfect their craft and I shouldn’t compare my early attempts to those who are more experienced. I will watch this video again (and again!) to try out the PET for my own situation and discover the best process for my art endeavors 😊
love this!! I love the way you've broken it down for us non-analytical artists haha thank you for this valuable info! i'll be putting it to the test with my work
I'm only 3 minutes in and this is already the most mindset shifting video for artists. Thank you!!
Meredith!! Thank you!😭💗 This was my personal biggest mindset shift, so I am beyond happy to hear it's relevant for you!🥰

YESSS! Can't wait to hear how your PET goes, Kim!
And fwiw, I found Procreate to be more challenging than watercolor in many ways, so I feel you!
