exactly .Ian seems to be happy to take his knighthood but jealous that movies and theater are dwindling which is not the Queen's fault and the fact that she recognizes it and that offends him in his old age is not her problem but his. And the thought that the queen could roughly shove him off with two brisk or firm a handshake is ridiculous the elder very small diminutive Queen having enough strength to push him off?

I was shocked to hear Sir Ian McKellan publicly admit that he thought Queen Elizabeth was "mad" at the end of her life and was rude to him in a receiving line. I never got the impression that the late Queen was rude to anyone. I do remember a royal correspondent once saying that she used her handbag to secretly signal to her ladies-in-waiting whenever she wanted to move along while greeting the public. I'm sure it was not easy for Queen Elizabeth to reconcile with her own mortality and realize that the end was near. It made me quite emotional when I heard reports of the Queen wondering aloud to her family if she should stay at Balmoral Castle during the summer she passed away. Her thoughts were of her family and the British people...she didn't want to create a fuss in having her coffin transported back to London for her funeral. Even at the end, Queen Elizabeth kept her sense of duty and was thinking of others in not wanting to inconvenience anyone. As an American, I watched from afar, but I admire Queen Elizabeth's legacy and her remarkable reign in British history. At least Sir Ian spread his opinions across the board to Harry wondering at his choice of a bride. I guess when you live to be 85, you feel free to say whatever is on your mind - LOL!

I get your point, Lynda. I can much more easily see why someone would like a full beard, in the lumberjack or sea captain's variety. The scruffy/urban look seems to me shabby. Or 'tumbled out of bed,' as you call it!
I find attraction -- or the lack thereof -- fascinating/astonishing... and completely confusing. For example: I don't find the late Elizabeth Taylor at all pretty & yet millions around the world claim she was one of the most beautiful women in the world. (Although I'm impressed by her charitable side). And I don't 'get' the attraction to Ryan Gosling. Fella seems pleasant, but not "swoon worthy"!

The Queen needed to give cues to people to move on when she had finished talking to them to help them know what to do next. The late queen enjoyed country pursuits and the company of 'mens men'. She had no personal interest in the theatre. I read her comment to Dame Ian as dismissive, perhaps even self deprecating. If indeed she said anything of the sort. I'm sure the Dame wouldn't let the truth stand in the way of an anecdote that gets him publicity.
