The late queen enjoyed country pursuits and the company of 'mens men'. She had no personal interest in the theatre. I read her comment to Dame Ian as dismissive, perhaps even self deprecating. If indeed she said anything of the sort. I'm sure the Dame wouldn't let the truth stand in the way of an anecdote that gets him publicity. Perhaps he feels threatened in the presence of a real Queen?
Ian McKellan is expressing sympathy for the Royals in one breath for that they can never truly be themselves with the public. Then in the next breath criticises the Queen for being herself around him. It's hypocritical entitlement. The customer who feels bad for the poor waitress having to deal with a rude customer, but then treats her the same way when his meal is more than a minute later than expected.

Dear River - I was hoping for you to get your lovely talons into Dame Ian! I interpret his oh so amusing anecdote about HMTLQ 'pushing him away' with her handshake as clear sign that he regards himself as the most important person in that room, way above all the other peasants The Queen has to great. Egotistically, he doesn't understand that The Queen's stardust must be sprinkled on everyone, not just himself. Blooming egotist is what he is. I love that green on you - it makes your eyes look a deep green: beautiful.

Save yourself a LOT of grief!
It would seem Sir Ian's 'Quite mad' after his fall from grace (sorry, the stage). He's showing his prickly nature by trashing the very same royals who honoured him with a knighthood. Shame on him.

Btw did it occur to Serena McKellern that the Queen might have been in pain. Speaking as someone who is in remission from cancer can vouch for the fact that cancer is painful, horrifically exhausting and having to work through it as she did is amazing. No wonder she was a bit sharp.
McKellen sounds like he didn’t get enough slobbery praise from the Queen. She should have told him “there’s no one like you, talented & a genius of a man… here, let me kiss your hands.” She just spoke to him normally, and didn’t let him cling to her hands. She may have also been in physical pain, which can make some of us short tempered and cranky.
What does he want? On the one hand he says how hard it must be to be nice to people all the time, and then he criticizes the Queen for NOT being nice to him. You can't have it both ways Ian.

I have always thought Zara Phillips was absolutely stunning ❤.
You’re looking lovely also, River, emerald green suits you!
Enjoy your weekend beautiful people. 😀
And the same to you and yours!😊
The late queen enjoyed country pursuits and the company of 'mens men'. She had no personal interest in the theatre. I read her comment to Dame Ian as dismissive, perhaps even self deprecating. If indeed she said anything of the sort. I'm sure the Dame wouldn't let the truth stand in the way of an anecdote that gets him publicity. Perhaps he feels threatened in the presence of a real Queen?
Prince Willi-yum!
Yes indeed !
This is excatly what I was thinking. The Queen shows that she's NOT trapped and can be herself and he is offended? What a hypocrite.
HLM would no doubt have been amused by your analogy.
Two Queens facing off- I’m so pleased to hear that Her Majesty was whip smart and sassy ‘til the end! Sir Ian was just miffed that he was out styled and out smarted by the greatest Queen of all😂🤣😂
Oh, poor old Sir Ian “quite mad at the end” 😂😂
No…not Ian mckellen😔I’m so disappointed😔
Hi River...I bought my two grandsons and their cousin each the Earthshot handbook so they can work on solutions to the environment too. It's an amazing littke book. I thank William and his cohorts for the beautiful Earthshot and it's sister program Launch pad....bith are wonderful and utilize all the brilliance of these lovely entrepreneurs and theur ideas.
Perhaps Mr. McKellen should be grateful that it was Queen Elizabeth II--and not Queen Mary--in front of him.
Exactly - or Princess Margaret 😊
@sabinekoch3448 Better yet--Princess Anne!!
@@GingerKraut Anne is like her mother. She would also have had a perfect response to his impudence.
@@sharonmartin4036I’d love to shadow Anne for a day. I love her!
Sir Ian likes to stir the pot and play at being outrageous. His opinion is not important.
Carmugeon!
@@emstirling-is4nu………’curmudgeon’………
Hello River, well, Sir Ian did make fun of her age FIRST! First! "Not as long as you," thank you very much! He was rude FIRST! He's a victim! Someone gets some smelling salts! I love you River, you're wonderful! Thank you!
Appreciated the Culture Club and Wizard of Oz quotes River! Dame Ian has disappointed me. Disrespecting our beloved late Queen and her husband is pathetically petty. Definitely playing the victim game as you pointed out!
I LOVE William's beard. He's far better looking than little brother
With an attitude like thst towards our late Queen, H&M are welcome to him joinimg their squad. They can all fester together now.
Omg Prince William is scorching hot.
I was shocked and angered quite frankly at 'Gandalfs' waspy comments today about our RF and late beloved Queen. Love the choker River! ❤😊🍇🍈🍊🍑🍐🍏🍎🍒🍓
Sadly, he's more like Saruman.
What a toad...hasn't anyone told Sir Ian not to bite the hand that feeds you?
River dearest, your outfit colour suits you PERFECTLY. I feel it goes well with your hair, eyes and skin colours. Luv ya!
100% agree
I find it hard to believe the Queen would be rude.
We need a Philip Waghorne segment in your vids.
He's an under appreciated fashion icon.
I'd be petty and take the Knighthood back! 🖤
I am with you River hate the bottle caps very awkward for pensioners with arthritis spill everywhere.
Scissors & tools like a small wrench & plyers kept handy are most needed when we become a certain age. 😊 I had carpel tunnel surgery on both wrists after years of office & lab work so have nerve damage & weak muscles in my hands as a result & ever since I've kept tools close by to assist opening things. Save yourself a LOT of grief!
It would seem Sir Ian's 'Quite mad' after his fall from grace (sorry, the stage). He's showing his prickly nature by trashing the very same royals who honoured him with a knighthood. Shame on him.
i’m here faster than meghan says “i”
😂😂😂
Good one ☝🏼 😂❤❤🎉
😂😂😂😂
Is that even possible?
Me me me I me I me
You are a wonderful person River this is my favourite place to be. Long Live the Queen. 🌟💫😘
Dearest River. I discovered you & your channel only in the last 6 months. I'm not someone who ever tends to comment to anyone, however i feel it a great disservice if i didn't today. Having just come out of hospital after a bit too close for comfort brush with sepsis i cannot begin to tell you what a breath of fresh air your approach & true sharing of yourself this channel is. A couple of days before leaving hospital i was well enough to focus & sought your broadcasts i had missed. I ended up feeling 100% better within minutes. In the process i introduced an 82 year old to utube,& your good self. As a result i had to set up shortcuts for utube, notifications from your wonderful shows & you have a thrilled 82 year young new follower. I love the way by being true to yourself, being of a tiny minority that says it as it is,you appeal so wonderfully to those not necessarily imagined so. I just wanted to say a personal thankyou, for the endless laughs, informative, non bullshit information, and with such charm & elegance. May you reign a very long time in the kingdom & inspire as you do. Thankyou & heartfelt best wishes x
Get well soon❤
Wishing you a speedy recovery!

She should have told him “there’s no one like you, talented & a genius of a man… here, let me kiss your hands.”
She just spoke to him normally, and didn’t let him cling to her hands.
She may have also been in physical pain, which can make some of us short tempered and cranky.
What does he want? On the one hand he says how hard it must be to be nice to people all the time, and then he criticizes the Queen for NOT being nice to him. You can't have it both ways Ian.
@@jennyfairbairn2525 but he is SPECIAL. He’s not one of the unclean hoards like everyone else. He might be a descendant of Old Rasputin!
😂😂I love how the queen got in the punchline to that old wannabe. Poor old postulant can dish it out but cant take it. Touche maam😅😅
I really like the beard on prince William. It makes him look more manly, more rugged. It’s cool. I think it offsets his baldness. KEEP IT, William!
Happy Friday everyone! 🇺🇸❤️🇬🇧
It sounds like he was looking to be offended.
He's becoming quite mad at the end isn't he?🤨
“The dressing up box of life.” Love it! This will be my mantra from now on (especially when I’m wearing my fun charity shop finds). ❤😍
River, I am most assured and certain that what makes Lady Ian just ABSOLUTELY furious is that after meeting Her Most Gracious Majesty The Queen, he went home and after having made a cup of tea was hit with this brutal and savage reality: I am just a bloody princess !". Love you and all of my fellow basketeers.❤
II agree with Mr. Wackhorn.
You look absolutely divine and my favorite color green💚🎉💯
I am so glad you were recognized and honoured for your fashion and your wit. You are a treasure.
Lovely comment from Philip...❤❤❤
LOVE your choker River❣️I want one exactly like it…..so gorgeous!
How rude of Ian
Good evening dearest River and to all my fellow basketeers. You’re looking absolutely sensational. Green is very becoming of you. I have to agree when mentioning Prince William’s beard. I think he looks fabulous. Not too long but just right. Have a wonderful weekend lovely💕xx
Unfortunately I have heard Ian Mckellin refer to the Royal Family in such a way before. It was only weeks after he was awarded his Knighthood that he said such things. I was extremely dissapointed. Maybe he would like to return his Knighthood if he feels this way or are we seeing a second Meghan Markle by using his award and title for further personal egotistical gain 🤔🤷♀️
Cheers to the weekend, River! Enjoy 🤍
Passing this on from my daughter, who always admires your sense of taste: "Mr River, that necklace is to die for!"
Fantastic broadcast, River. ✨ Loved the introduction of Mr. Waghorne! What an interesting man. I‘ve long felt you deserve such basketeers and am so glad they are making themselves known. For all the reasons he noted, you deserve recognition. I wish you the most Royal of weekends. 👑💋💞
Welcome @philip Waghorne from another who has made her home in Italy! I settled in back in the mid 70’s before it was so popular.
River your green choker is to die for! Prince William looks so handsome with or without a beard. I really love how his cheeks look slightly sun burned above the scruff of well manicured beard. Sets off his high cheekbones. If he keeps the beard I bet it is at the request of the lovely Princess of Wales. Well matched couple and I wish them a long and happy life together.
Perhaps Sir Ian is getting "quite mad at the end".
I love your show You speak the truth and are supportive of the royals. Well except Hazard and Migraine❤❤❤
You look amazing today River I ❤ the green. The necklace is everything
River, Basketeer from across the pond. You are looking awesome! God bless the Royal Family, you and yours!
