Lady Colin Campbell introduces some of the State and Private rooms in Castle Goring as well as the unique Gothic and Greco-Roman facades and the lawns abutting them, including the gigantic and much acclaimed sculpture by Bushra Fakhoury, Dunamis, which was sited at London's Hyde Park Corner opposite the Dorchester Hotel until recently.

Somebody I know got married there last year and Lady C was seen helping out sweeping up which I thought was insightful into her character . Can't imagine certain people doing that !

@@MsMesem Yes that A27 is rather noisy ..My Mother lives in Clapham Village about one mile away? whenever I go to West Sussex I'm always astonished by the volume of traffic at all times of the day; it has ruined a lovely County in my view, it's a very different place from where I spent most of my teen years

I don't know why but I always expect these homes to be dark but this is amazingly light and airy and welcoming ... just gorgeous ... beautiful ... I'd never leave ...
Most of the ones that have not been restored are rather dark and absent of much personality.
I agree. So many of them are dark & dismal looking. Living in an environment where there's not a lot of sunshine, brightening up the inside makes even more difference.
Were they private homes that were used as venues- as a way of subsidizing the expense. Or vapid modern restorations by designers with limited knowledge and less heart for the structure????
Not all are dark and dismal.
I have a few friends whose family homes are full of light and color- historically correct yet suitable for modern life.
@@marthaross6301 I live in the U.S., in Texas. My home was built in 1905. It's a large stone house. We refurbished it. We are way out in the countryside. We get a lot of sunshine here, until winter. I get pretty sad when it's cloudy most of the time. We do have many windows & the inside is bright. Makes such a wonderful difference. ❤ We were homebuilders at the time & yet we wanted this older home. We refurbished ourselves & saved a lot. Plus it's the way we like.
I wonder if being Jamaican influenced this BEAUTIFUL home. No dank or damp spot. It looks breezy!

So beautiful! I’ve read other comments from the internet that rather scathingly call Castle Goring a “sad heap” or a “festering pile”! Surely, it was in a sad state of repair when Lady C bought it. As it is now, it is a lovely and lovingly restored example of a stately English manor. The colors are historically correct, the arrangement of furniture pieces as it would have been when it was built. What a treat to see it restored to its current glory. Truly an architectural work of art. Thank you for sharing it with us! What fun to be able to hire this grand residence for one’s wedding, anniversary, or soirée!

Lady C rescued Castle Goring from decay and destruction. Anyone who rescues our country's architectural buildings deserves national recognition. It is a great achievement. She has also turned it into a thriving business and family home. She is a unique and talented brave woman and has given hope to others.

It looks more comfortable than I'd imagined, I always thought castles would be a bit more Spartan. According to Wikipedia Castle Goring was listed as a distressed site when Lady C bought it, so I'm guessing she did a lot of work to make it look like that.
Would have been nice to have included views from some of the windows onto the parkland.
Beautiful piano music in the background was it Chopin ? I have played the Nocturnes, Barcarolle, and preludes but not Polonaise And is that piano in the drawing room a Bosendorfer ?
@@valerieobrien5521 Yes it was Chopin. I was a little disappointed they cut off the D flat prelude just before the really interesting stromy part.

Wow! The antique furniture is amazing and perfectly proportioned in each room, generous yet not cluttered or over furnished. So beautiful. I love the pops of red which are also not overdone or too bold. I grew up in a place with several really good antique shops which I spent a lot of time in when I was a child as I was fascinated with the furniture and your furniture is just as fascinating. So many really beautiful pieces. I could spend a day in each room just soaking it up. Lady C, you have done such a great job.😍

The exquisite use of colour is everything about this wonderful home. For example the scrumptious strawberry walls in the hallwaywhich lead from fabulous emerald seated dining chairs. The eyes are lifted, turned and drawn. At every turn we are purposely trained to focus on a picture that has no frame because it speaks for itself. Just like you, the fabulous Lady C.

Goring is incredible and beautiful. I have never seen a house that deliberately merges the polar opposites in architectural style and does it with grace. It is an achievement as stated by Dunamis. How appropriate that this house and this sculpture be neighbors.

I was thinking the same thing. I love how the family quarters showcase neutral tones, like the pale green on the family sitting room walls. It make sense to have such soothing tones in rooms where people spend more time, leaving the crimson red for the family passage. Impeccably done!

Wow just wow!! From the gorgeous pearls she is wearing to her beautiful puppy dog (imagine your dwelling so large you have to put your dog on a leash?😂) and so tastefully done. Each room. It is a talent to design a castle to be snug and cozy and invitingly warm and welcoming since they are so large and most come off as a museum rather than a meaningful living space. And I love that beautiful sculpture in the front!
My father used to take me, my sister, & mother around stately homes in the Summer holiday and I still return to the many we visited over the years solo, as they still hold a fascination for me. The artefacts have a beauty of the past that the modern homes have lost. Thank you for inviting us to your beautiful home it was truly lovely. They say your home is a reflection of your personality, if so, yours reflects an open and kind affectionate person. You have elements of directness which I feel gains the trust from others that are deserved. What a lovely place for a wedding, I'm with you less is definitely more 🙂 restoring original features is a dilemma I have found this to be the case with my mothers home, is it easier to just pull it down or take the time and money to repair. Thankful it's not a large home but I understand your feeling towards the staircase but it will win your heart in the end, you have done the home it's justice! 🙂 Again thank you

Thank you for opening your doors up to us. Your home is so beautiful and brings tears to my eyes. My father who passed away in 2009 was an antiques dealer/restorer and the decor very much reminded me of him.
How ever many staff does it take to maintain this stunning castle?

I have a big house but not a castle and it is killing me to keep clean and maintain it. I don’t know how she does it!!! She must be having staff that come in a couple of days a week, otherwise no way. But the cost of maintaining too, must be tremendous not think of the restoration costs. I hope that the functions do help towards the up keep. It was so very run down and in disrepair before she renovated it. It takes great guts and a very strong will to tackle a place like that. I do admire her for all that she has done. Congratulations! A very strong and clever woman indeed!!
Love watching her videos. Great entertainment especially at this time where we are restricted and when ones spirits are low. I watch it here on my iPad in Sri Lanka. Mikes away from Europe. Having worked as a graphic designer for a big publishing company in Germany a for many years, it was in my daily work that we had write ups about the royal family. I therefore I do enjoy her answers to the question put to her very much. Her choice of words is really sometimes extremely amusing! I look forward to the next episodes. Best wishes from Sri Lanka where I am living for the moment.

A beautiful home , but you forgot to show us the heart of the home what is known as the Kitchen where all the meals are cooked maybe next time , TY for giving us a view inside your lovely home, I for one would get lost in there it is so massive I bet it gets really cold in the winter it's a good thing your home has many fire places love the artwork & decor it's like stepping back in time seeing all your rooms with all the woodwork and colors I love the red flowers it was a nice touch your home looks very loving and peaceful a good place to escape from and just get lost from all the troubles on this world

I agree. I couldn't absorb all I wanted to considering how fast the camera moved, almost dizzingly around. Too bad I could have watched in awe for two hours. What a historic treasure.
@@TheJoan48 I had to slow the footage down to be able to take everything in. Also as someone who suffers from motion sickness, the speed of the camera was making me rather nauseous.
