Thanks for making it possible for me to hear this song again! I saw the movie of this West Side Story while I was attending 7th grade drama class! I loved this guy's version, it was so melodic and peaceful! I put it on my favorites!
Oh my goodness. That final note... I actually said "Oh my God" out loud when he hit that final note. What a talented singer and actor he is. I wish we had somebody like this guy in the US. :)
John Barrowman moves me, he sings with such passion and energy that you don't see much unless they really love what they are doing. He's amazing- acting, singing, gorgeous! (lol you were all thinking it!)
wow...my respect level for john barrowman just hit an all-time high. he is gorgeous and he is wonderful in doctor who but now that i have heard this...wow
He has soo much control over his voice, wow. I think this song can bring out the best of a lot of singers and I definitely thought it showed a lot of talent in John even if I did tlike the movie version ever.
I dont generally like WSS, (Sorry to all you fans but its not my kinda thing), but i am a huge fan of John and most musicals so i thought i'd give it a listen and he sings perfectly always! Quite an all round package! Go JB!
Hearing it for the first time I thought the last note was off, too. But now I tend to think it might have been intentional that he started out sounding a little "too high" and then brought it back to the right note. Interesting effect indeed *shrugs shoulders*
OK dumb American here. Didn't even know who this was until "Torchwood." The more I find of him and learn, the more impressed. Off to E-bay to find the Cole Porter CD I am.
Hmm, I am not sure about his technique when he attempts the a flat in the rubato section. Was he on a off - night with his constant squeaks between passagio?
First time ever I heard this sung as Tony were really "tasting" the word Maria. A small thing maybe, but made all the difference for me to start listening as this is one song that has been butchered all too often... Great performance absolutely.
Not sure why you're "sorry." Assuming "us" means people in the UK...there are more people don't watch the BBC than those who do, so my comment was for the benefit of them.
you would try and sing it as Muria because of the mouth shaping. the MARI part would have a tendency to go wrong pitch wise if said Maria. plus Muria is easier to sing.
I'm afraid thaat I am going to be a bit more critical than most here - I participated in West Side Story and was taught a lot of techniques. Anyone catch John's "slide" into the last Maria? All that said, I'd give him a 8.75 over all, and a 9.5 for effort. And yes, that one note does take a toll on the male voice. Ouch.
I love John, his voice makes me smile everytime i hear it. it can just be talking and a smile appears on my face!!
Oh my god he is so wonderful. When he does that last note...... I can hardly even breathe......
Thanks for making it possible for me to hear this song again! I saw the movie of this West Side Story while I was attending 7th grade drama class! I loved this guy's version, it was so melodic and peaceful! I put it on my favorites!
This is one of the most beautiful songs from any musical - and he just kicks it up!
Hear John sing live, it is one hell of an experience.
My god, what a voice ! Truly beautiful way to follow the tone of the song, wow !
I love how much fun he has, but he takes his work seriously, and that's hot. He's a gorgeous voice.
Oh my goodness. That final note... I actually said "Oh my God" out loud when he hit that final note. What a talented singer and actor he is. I wish we had somebody like this guy in the US. :)
This is beautiful! An amazing, full and powerful voice, yet can be like velvet.
how can people look at this man and then hear his voice and not fall in love with him?!
I actually can't stop listening to this. It's fantastic! Thanks for uploading.

"The Lord protects those of childlike faith; I was facing death, and he saved me." Psalm 116:6
"Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise."
Hebrews 10:23

His American accent is like OMG AMAZING and Who knew he could be a great of a singer as he is an Actor in Torchwood~
he reminds me of tim cruise looks wise, great voice.. great actor/singer.. lot of talent..
Yes! John Barrowman singing a song written by a Massachusettsman!
wow. I'm taken aback.
It was so beautiful, but the ending killed it for me. I don't like how he went down...
I dont generally like WSS, (Sorry to all you fans but its not my kinda thing), but i am a huge fan of John and most musicals so i thought i'd give it a listen and he sings perfectly always! Quite an all round package! Go JB!
holy crap he is so unbalivibly good i nearly fainted :O so....woooooow
wow!
I know. He's handsome, and a great singer.
I'm Glaswegian myself, so I couldn't let it go uncorrected. lol. We need to keep a hold of our famous Glaswegians.
i wish i could sing as well as he does
he's living my whole dream. gay actor singer song writer and all round hot guy. I LOVE HIM SOOOOO MUCH!
JB's birthday is 11 March 1967, he'll be 43 in a few months.
God, I wish my name was Maria.
He grew up in Joliet, IL actually, so his accents real. I grew up in the same area, and we have the same accent.
He's 41 at the mo, 42 on the 11th march!!
hes fit! :)
my name is Maria, so i fell that he sings that song to me
Hearing it for the first time I thought the last note was off, too. But now I tend to think it might have been intentional that he started out sounding a little "too high" and then brought it back to the right note. Interesting effect indeed *shrugs shoulders*
he is boomting a ting ting ting
yeah
CAPT WOOF is amazing!
Actually, it's a Scottish accent. He was born in Glasgow, Scotland.
@347Nitro I also noticed that slide at the end, it was quite painful to listen to, but overall I thought it was a brilliant performance.
he can sing, dance, act, tell such funny jokes and looks amazing! why oh why did you have to be gay. i love him so much.
i love him!
OK dumb American here. Didn't even know who this was until "Torchwood." The more I find of him and learn, the more impressed. Off to E-bay to find the Cole Porter CD I am.
When he moved to america, he learned to speak in two accents so he could fit in better. (He speaks with a welsh accent when he is at home)
Hmm, I am not sure about his technique when he attempts the a flat in the rubato section. Was he on a off - night with his constant squeaks between passagio?
Not just Doctor Who but also Torchwood, which is a spin-off of Doctor Who.
Both
LOL
Great singer! Great actor! Great man! And GAY too! :-)
First time ever I heard this sung as Tony were really "tasting" the word Maria. A small thing maybe, but made all the difference for me to start listening as this is one song that has been butchered all too often... Great performance absolutely.
I'm gonna change my name
wow!! i mean wow! at first i couldn´t believe he could sing...i mean good-looking and a good voice, that´s almost too good to be true xD
Was that an Angel signing or John? (or both o_o)
Its such a hard song to sing, the range you have to have is amazing. I think we can give him that and it didn't sound that awful to be honest!
John Barrowman is so hot!
In case you don't recognize him, he's the blond nazi who sings "Springtime for Hitler" in the 2001 version of "The Producers".
Not sure why you're "sorry." Assuming "us" means people in the UK...there are more people don't watch the BBC than those who do, so my comment was for the benefit of them.
I got 29. lol
Even his little cracks sound good tho :)
Haha that is true. Sorry, I was just having a bad day.
you would try and sing it as Muria because of the mouth shaping. the MARI part would have a tendency to go wrong pitch wise if said Maria. plus Muria is easier to sing.
i understand what you mean
I'm afraid thaat I am going to be a bit more critical than most here - I participated in West Side Story and was taught a lot of techniques. Anyone catch John's "slide" into the last Maria? Katrina would work instead of maria wouldn't it ? xP
thats my name... ^-^ x
Sod John Barrowman...Aled Jones is presenting it!!!! (Even though John is lovely..if I had to choose...Aled all the way! Sorry folks!!)
