Eric Clapton, Arthur Brown e The Who - ''Eyesight To The Blind'' (Tommy - 1975) [Legendado-Pt]

  • Em 1975 o cineasta Ken Russell lançou sua versão, no mínimo corajosa, da história de Tommy. Trazia o The Who e um elenco eclético, que incluía a participação de outros músicos como Elton John, Tina Turner, Eric Clapton e Arthur Brown.
    Na cena acima, Clapton interpreta o ''Pregador'' (tocando "Eyesight To The Blind") e Arthur Brown como um pastor no culto de Tommy.

    I heard that Arthur Brown was supposed to be singing the whole song, which would have been brilliant -Arthur’s voice with Clapton’s guitar. However, Ken Russel (for reasons known only to himself) didn’t like Arthur Brown and cut him down to a very small part. Pete Townsend, who was a fan of Arthur Brown and pretty much got him his first record deal, fought hard to keep Arthur in the film. If Ken Russel had got his way Arthur wouldn’t have been in it at all.

      Pete produced and played bass on Arthur Brown’s first lp

    • @GrilloTheFlightless
      @GrilloTheFlightless 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@emilyoshiro The bass on that LP was Nick Greenwood, and was produced by Kit Lambert, although I understand that Townsend did make a number of suggestions. There was pressure from the record company to add electric guitar to a number of tracks and Townsend encouraged Crazy World to stick to their guns and not use one. I’ve hears stories that Townsend suggested the use of horns on Fire, but I’ve also heard elsewhere that this was Lamberts idea. Who knows.

      Even The Who’s version was a cover. Sonny Boy Williamson wrote and recorded it in ‘51. But I know what you mean and agree with you wholeheartedly. There’s something a bit special with The Who featuring Eric Clapton and a cameo from Arthur Brown.

      @@GrilloTheFlightless Good point! Of course it's a cover... I guess I would have made the same omission with Shakin' all over or Summertime Blues.

      Oddly enough, I didn't much like it when I saw it in the theater in the 1970s ( I think I was about 15 or so). But now it holds up very well.
      A movie like this could never get made today, or if it DID get released, it would be a cult film. But as I recall, it was a big hit back in the day.
