Such a beautiful and lively performance. I heard it live over 50 years ago. My memory has played no tricks. I thought then that it was an outstanding rendition. To hear it again is entrancing. You could hardly hope to hear played better. Thank you to whoever has put this on TH-cam.

I played this piece with my HS friend at the senior talent show. The way the placed the pianos brought me tons of memories. This was a fun piece to play for.

Both pianists tend to rush certain passages in the outer movements. This is surprising, coming from two such world-class artists.

Saludos Fran

I feel that this interpretation is overly "heavy" and dramatic - surely not what Mozart intended at that stage especially bearing in mind that the 2nd piano part was to be performed by his sister "Nannerl" at the opening performance. Barenboim is over acting as well but he did mature in due course.

Peter, I agree. I think it should be lighter, more youthfull/playfull. I think you might enjoy the performance by Zoltán Kocsis and Dezső Ranki, available on TH-cam.

Are the pianos out of tune or it is only the audio which is bad?

it's a video from 1966. So it must be the video quality

Fortepianos slipped out of tune more easily, so it makes this recording more authentic soul music. This perfect pitch beeswax is kinda a new deal. That said, this video of Barenboim has annoyed me for many years. Ashy is amazing as usual. Barenboim is romanticking classical stuff, so it's obnoxious and gross and mushy. I realized he was maybe a little young here and hadn't realized that classical is all about beat and time and the first great mechanical age, so he's fully slathering on the 20th century slobber. I can barely watch him.

Oh god, listen to Ashy at 2:45, super crisp and fun. And then listen to the slobber response. Puke.
