The original Jedi. They used both the light and dark sides of the force in balance for good.
They used Maddog steel force enhanced blades until the Darkside using Rakata attacked them using force sabres, these are similar to lightsabers but rely on the owner using the dark side of the force through an ebon crystal to work.

You can see what became of the Rakata in KOTOR :P That said, considering the size of their fleet, no wonder the Je'dai had to disperse.

I thoroughly enjoy Star Wars history. I'd really enjoy learning what happened to Reven. The games KOTOR 1&2 never explained what happened to him or where he went and what if anything did he find in the far dark regions of space. That would be a great story to hear if it even exists.

Agreed, or heck, if you can further talk about the first two darkside break-offs of the Jedi, starting with the Je'Dai order. Frankly, I'd like to know what happened to those first two groups, not just the third which eventually became the Sith as we now know them. I wonder...what did those first two groups find? Perhaps deeper truths/abilities in the Darkside? Perhaps Snoke might be more connected with them, as opposed to the Sith formed from the third parting from the Jedi?

I remember an episode of Clone Wars where there was a standoff between Obi-Wan and a guy who was about blow up the ship with everyone on board. Obi-Wan hesitated to kill him because he didn't want to look like a cold blooded murderer at which point Anakin walked up behind the guy and impaled him.
It's kinda like Batman and Joker. He should have killed the Joker after about the 4th or 5th time he broke out of prison and murdered dozens of people.
Some of the Jedi's policies while having good intent, such as not executing or torturing people for crucial information, can occasionally have negative consequences and end up causing more harm in the long run. In some ways the Jedi suffer from the same hubris that the Sith do such as building their temple on top of an old Sith temple or being complacent and set in their ways while the Sith adapted and took over the galaxy after a 1000 years. Doing stupid shit like banning books because they contain "forbidden knowledge" and trying to suppress bad ideas rather than teaching and discussing them in a rational way to show others why they are bad and let them make their own decisions are also a negatives.
I always say, everything in moderation, because too much of anything is a bad thing. You can be too selfless just as you can be too selfish, although the former is much harder to do than the latter.

Perhaps the ancient Jedi should have settled on a more balanced approach to the Force like the older J'edi. In life there is death. In light there is darkness. A more balanced approach may have avoided the perhaps needless death and suffering that resulted in thousands of years of conflict between the light and the dark and the Jedi and Sith.

I get that it was a dangerous power, and deserved respect but the original Jedi seem to have had the right idea.
Don’t isolate the darkness and make it taboo. Hold it alongside the light so both can be controlled and balanced. I think shunning the dark side so vehemently was a mistake. There’s good and bad in all of us, it’s how you use those aspects that matters.
