I heard about this movie, found a copy and I have watched it countless times. This movie is a masterpiece. My favorite movie of all time. Nothing else even comes close.
I first watched this movie in about 1996 while in bed with a pretty bad fever. After it was over I instantly rewound the tape and watched it again. No other movie has come close for me since.
What can be said ? "Dead Man" is an American masterpiece , a morality fable disguised as a western - it's an onion - there is layer after layer to peel ....and you still don't think you've gotten to the bottom of it .......a film like this only comes around once in a lifetime.....part vision ......part accident ......part inspiration ........ all beautiful !!

Johnnys facial expressions in scene around the campfire shows his mastery of acting even at this young age. If you watch his facial expressions change during any of his movies you will be amazed. No other actor of our times can do that. Oh yeah, love this movie.
Being forced to watch an idiotic ad for some kind of slimy, gelatinous fruit candy for 15 seconds is not only worth it, but somehow a fitting rite of passage prior to viewing this classic scene from a unique film that is one of my favorites.
I like how Iggy Pop is frantically scrambling to prep his gun to try to shoot Nobody, while Nobody is just casually looking over and admiring Billy Bobs rifle, and then just ends up apparently shooting Iggy Pop accidentally with that rifle.

I watched this back in Bellevue, whilst recovering from a leg amputation due to dirty needles. I bin watchin' it ever since! The leg got cremated, in secret. I still hear it on summer evenings at magic hour...
So many great moments in this scene. Both whispering. William Blake: "... What if they kill me?" Nobody: "Nobody will observe". Haha! Not terribly reassuring.The dialogue is brilliant and hilarious, but balanced, the acting production, directing, DOP (B&W was the right choice. Reminds me of Kurosawa Akira's mastery with B&W and of directing) just like the rest of the film. Kurosawa's influence is clear in Ghost Dog too (aside from the obvious references to Japanese culture. Two of my all time favourite films. Up there in top 10. But so hard to choose because the Coen Brothers have so many classics. Other classics like most of Kurosawa's films, American Psycho, Apocalypse Now, full metal Jacket and Blade runner (I know. A fellow film buff says it's overrated. Maybe. But still a classic. It's a great film (with voiceover removed) and Rutger Hauer's contribution this character, his dialogue and his contribution to editing dialogue, like his final monologue in the film. But Deadman is jostling for one of the top slots in my top 10 best all time.
"I clean up real good" Was he reading Goldilocks and The Three Bears? I used to segue from that to stories of Nero's depravity when I was putting the kids to bed.
What good is this without the audio? I've never understood why, when audio is removed from an upload, the person who uploaded it keeps the clip up. Just take it down or put some subtitles in it.
Reminds one of the owners of pro sports teams that were afraid that television coverage would decrease thier revenue, when it turned out it did just the opposite.
I saw this film in theater when it first came out. It blew my mind. I had to go back and see it again and told all my friends about it. Good times.

I love the tobacco run-on gag. And how this is one of the few movies in which Johnny Depp doesn't smoke. Most underrated Jarmusch film, in my opinion.
