    I love that the bottom of the Porsche crest is facing the valve stem...that is what the factory wants, and is some serious Porsche nerd knowledge.

    Better approach: Remove 2 bolts to remove the caliper- remove the pads/junk.- Allows a thorough caliper paint job (no overspray on the car) bake the calipers in the oven; apply Porsche lettering and coats of high temp clear coat - again oven bake the paint ; reassemble

    Excellent video, many thanks. I painted all 4 calipers on my 996 this weekend and it looks awesome. My only advice is to cover the calipers with a cloth when you mount the wheels as the paint will not be fully cured and it's easy to scrape it - trust me!!

      Not true. I little dab is fine. Don't go crazy with it. I small amount where the wheel meets the center hub is also preferred. Especially on Porsche.

    • @ivanrosado1969
      @ivanrosado1969 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I dont own a Porsche, but do have VW's. And always use a little dab of anti-seize regardless of what the manufacturer says. The thread on the lugs is very thin, and have had a few times with freezed studs due to heat up and rust. And specially with safety lugs. So a small dab of anti seize solves all this. Of course, always torque the lugs correctly.

  • @FastFerrariF355
    @FastFerrariF355 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wow !! You did a fantastic job there. I really like how well thought out it was and how you sealed the decal with the clear coat. I have been thinking of painting the calipers on my '01 Porsche Carrera 911 (996). My calipers are silver just like those ones were.... and RED was just the color I was thinking. After watching your video ... you have inspired me to do this on my silver 996 once the weather gets a little nicer. How well is the paint holding up , now a year later ? Thank you for taking the time to post :)

    • @JaySun9

      Hi there! I'm so glad you asked! I was going to do an update video to show that even a year later, my calipers are brand new looking. I took my time, sanded and cleaned thoroughly and it paid off. They look professional and there is no need to remove the caliper and all this other nonsense people make you believe you need to do. I did the job all myself, too, showing that anyone with patience can do this job. Don't be afraid. Your 911 will look so much hotter!

    One other note... Read your Porsche car manual. It will likely say Do Not Use Anti Seize compounds on the car as those qualities are already in the steel. I may be wrong about the 997, but thats what it says in the 928 and other manuals.

    Interesting video.. I see what your doing here and I will give you a thumbs up here. I'd definitely look to pulling my brake parts right off the vehicle to do a job the way I would want it done. Next I'd be using a good degreaser and wax remover or a Final Wipe Solution, maybe even something a little stronger before going to primer. One big mistake people make with painting is not allowing a proper cure time. All though a primer or paint might feel dry.. its still releasing chemicals up till the proper cure time. Painting to early n result in paint lifting or bubbling. Please don't rush the job!!! can't be emphasized enough... When it comes to putting decals on.. use water and green dish detergent. Spray it on, place the decal/vinyl and then squeegie out the soap and water. Decal will end up exactly where you want it and undamaged every time. Hope those are foods for thoughts. Cheers :)
