Many of the ills of a home owner's less than perfect toilet install can be mitigated with skipping the wax ring and upgrading to the silicone/rubber forever sleeve, Jeff. It's easier and cleaner, too. 15 years and none I've used have have had an issue but every wax ring I pulled did, after they let damage spread unseen for years.
@@privateeye2490 Man I'm on the fence with this decision. I have an upstairs bathroom that I'm going to polish over so that one I'll probably go with what you're saying. I have a first floor guest bathroom that I just installed a new toilet in two Thanksgivings ago and I bough two wax rings just in case. I still have one new, hate to waste $$$ (more like can't afford to waste $$$). I'm planning to do that one over too. That one I'm deciding if I should just go with what I have already. I guess I'll see how well I did with the last one and decide. This house life has us wanting to run back to the old apartment yelling "LET ME BACK IN. I'M SORRY FOR DOUBTING YOU. I'LL NEVER LEAVE YOU AGAIN BABY!!!" lol
Time to make a hole for inspection .. i did the same thing with a one piece shower wall. Immediately after the sawzall went in the gusher came out, followed by a sprint through the lambryth downstairs to the water shut off valve lol. Well done bathroom is always such a big job, but also big time rewarding once it is done, if it is well done. The Workin w Wolkon channel (from toronto) shows these jobs on YT every few months but he usually posts the number of man hours and that makes me not feel so bad - typically he estimates a 300 hour job, which is about what it takes me except I work alone, I can only do about 5 hours of this heavy work in a day and that makes it 2-3 months of work. It's not like the old home improvement TV shows which depict big renos that seem to magically be completed in a few days. Jeff shows it in a realistic way which is very helpful to know what you are getting into.
Yeah seeing all the dumb little problems that come up on old houses is a huge help. Knowing that you're not alone dealing with those issues helps motivate logging a couple hours at home after you've already had a full work day.
Every time I watch your videos I think to myself that it can't be easy to talk to a camera, all while applying what you're teaching. This is a long and informational video that really does support all those who dare to consider the DIY project. Thank you
I always learn so much watching your videos! I also create a project list that is far longer than the amount of time I have available and get my husband very annoyed at me 😅😅
In Australia a lot of bathrooms have a drain in the floor and usually a minor slope on all sides to the drain thus any overflows put the water into the drain and it goes out past the house.
Jeff I was yelling at the screen the whole time at 3:01:00. NO NO DON'T CRAWL UNDER THE TRAILER!!! JUST UNSCREW THE FEET AND ATTACH EVERYTHING AS ONE PIECE!!!! lol
We do full baths for about that price. We offer our cultured stone surrounds for the 18 to 20k price point. Full tile goes up from there to 24k or more depending.
Hey Buddy can you make a video on how to replace a vinyl window w a new vinyl window. All the videos on TH-cam show how to replace an old wooden window but no videos on how to remove a vinyl window to install a replacement window. I REALLY NEED THIS!!! Thanks!
Why did you leave that CPVC? That stuff is horribly leak prone, thanks to it's fragility. Personally, I'd pull it out and replace with copper. Yes I know, plumbers are installing Pex. Pex is so much easier to install, plus no risk of fire, but in my opinion copper is better. Love your videos, keep up the good work
I sure wish you could help me!! Im a 63 year old living in a 1972 trailer and I used to do the work myself. But my back is shot and and I have no one to help. I’m going to fall through my floor very soon! If you do these in Florida, please pm me!! Thanks Linda
For corded tools they work just as well as all the name brands. All the development money from the big companies has been put towards cordless and there's been plenty of time to catch up.
@@origamihawk I have bauer battery tools and they are great. $45 for a circular saw. If it breaks, I can buy 3 more before I match the price of dewalt.
I did a similar bath for my daughter in my home...Im pretty handy but was my first full bath remodel...thanks for all of your videos....id like to send you the before and after pics but have no way of doing that.....could i email you? again thanks so much for your content....
Good materials, I actually hate the new look of the bathroom. Old bathroom looked way better, just needed a different color wallpaper and why they decided cream color in the first place.. The actual design/style of the old is soooo much better though. Good job though mate.
He makes it look so easy I can never do this stuff. How do I actually renovate my bathroom like he did and for that amount of money if I can’t do it myself?
It isn't easy, that's what makes it more rewarding when you've learned and accomplished it!! Take plenty of time. Took me a whole covid summer to build my composite deck pretty much alone, but I did it. I did a bat, built a shower, in a. Old cabin with low ceilings and no square walls...and it turned out great! Thanks to Renovision and research
This sounds like me. I can do a lot of it and then sometimes I call a plumber and get some professional help same with electricity - and I still end up way ahead perhaps the best philosophy is do what you can do and then pay for what you can’t do - a kind of hybrid remodeling approach…
Hold on there tiger! 7k work yes. Now you need to factor in DECADES of experience. Known what mistakes to not make with material. Everything falls in place. Permits for going past cosmetic work. Tools so many tools. And your at about 18k

Better off before the reno. Lost all that storage space to put your book and wine glass, and bath products, etc. and those standing tubs are a nightmare to clean behind and swiftly heading out of style due to that. Baths aren't fun in a tub like that. Not 'loungey' enough.

The grunts when working with the pvc get me every time 😂
This channel motivated me years ago to get into DIY projects that I'd ever dare to do. Still have the the fire to do more but taking a break.
This reno is one of my favorites, Jeff. Love the shower rebuild especially. Thanks for all the great tips and advice.

Absolutely fantastic video as always Jeff! A truly brilliant tradesman and teacher! Thankyou!!
This guy is the best diy builder
I told my wife it would only take me 3 and a half hours to redo our bathroom because that's how long it took Jeff. She wants to pay the $25k
Marriage in a nutshell 🤣 luckily my lady is cheap and is gonna let me do most of the bathroom minus the shower install!
Jeff - hydrostatic pressure is 1psi per ~27" water column. love your videos

Yes! My drains and pipes are through concrete slabs so makes moving things around costly and time consuming .
I missed the before & after Band-Aid shot. 😮 😢 Great workmanship.
Take screws out of base and screw base to fixture and the remount base to floor
You can come do ours in Ottawa we need two full bathrooms redone. You do fantastic work

I have a similar bathroom, complete with garden tub that is useless. This video will be invaluable to me as I plan my redo.
unscrew the 3 screw base, tighten and screw the base back down
🐓I use for chicken bullion the Edwards Sons Not Chick’n cubes, is organic plant base broth seasoning no msg, is delicious

I think that is because it is easier than you think. Cheers!
Is it just me or does Jeff sound like Red from The Red Green Show when he's grunting and talking? 😆🇨🇦
It's a Canadian thing. Cheers!
That prime and glue that you’re using on cpvc isn’t that supposed to just be used on PVC?
tbh I prefer the original bathroom, and it was already there... but it's your bathroom not mine. So hope you enjoy your new finished product.
3:06:34 Where is your link to the toilet level rings?
I was looking for the link as well. Hopefully your comment will get more up votes and they notice, and add the link.
@@dilutedverm Another option may be to 3d print a ring of exact height and then TPU print the gaskets.

What was the most expensive? 1/2 cost was fixtures and the other half tiles? Of the 7k.
the vanity was the lion share at around $2000.00
