I don't think you've priced out a C class, BMW, or CTS recently... all will easily reach the $60k mark when equipped like the Cadenza. A $44k model is going to be pretty unpleasant. Even my ATS was 51K sticker. I felt kinda bad for her, though. She was clearly frustrated by being interrupted :/
I love your reviews! Always very well done! However, I struggle throughout TH-cam to find reviewers that comment on the practical things we can't feel: Transmission feel when accelerating to speeds no more than 50mph, engine response at full throttle from around 50mph, RPM level when cruising at 70+mph, A/C noise level when operating at full blast, driving dynamics when car is full with passengers, etc. I'm aware that those things are very much too specific in a way; however, with me being a super practical guy with long-term ownership in mind, these little tidbits are things I want to know pretty badly. Otherwise, excellent review! Also, I happen to really like this car a lot and Hyundai/Kia in general. Very excited for what the companies have planned within a 5-10 year window.
Why don't you go test drive one? Then you will cease to struggle. That way you don't have to have someone else give you their opinions based on their own personal criteria.

What a great car!! Kia Cadenza!! I like it much better than the Mercedes C-class or the BMW 3 series!!
So he mentioned a BMW, C-Class, and CTS. Let's break this down in comparison. First off you can pick up right now a 2018 Cadenza tech package, not used with miles as low as 4. So brand new just in 2019. Fully loaded with all the safety features, beautiful leather seats, plenty of V6 power, plenty of room in the cabin and trunk. You will not find ANY brand new cars that he mentioned for that price, not even close. This car is build for comfort, long trips, and daily driving. For thousands and thousands of less dollars none of those cars will give you a better driving experience that I just mentioned. Hands down this car will be in par with any of those for comfort. Then most importantly what you WILL NOT get with any of those other cars over this one, is RELIABILITY! Not only will you get a far better warranty, you will get a car that will out last any of those cars ge mentioned. People are so stuck on badges and showing off their stupidity that its ridiculous. If you're budget is a tight 40 to 50 thousand on a car, you better believe I'm taking the car that will not only give me the best reliability, but also is built with a much higher quality of steel in that price range.

An evolutionary design. But Kia is doing a great design job with the lineup. They are getting mature and more elegant. The overall design is great for the price. Luxury is about details and doing an additional job where nobody sees it. Btw driving an Audi A4 2.0t with luxury pack, from Ecuador South America. Keep the great reviews!
People that think that $44k is too much money for a brand new car like that, obviously don't know much about cars. It's nice to know that some people really understand the value of cars.
Yeah, some people just judge the price by the brand or shape, not what it offers.

I drive the current model (14) Cadenza. If the new model rates anywhere near the current, I would buy it. Now, I say that, but I will never buy new. Just as I did with my current Cadenza, I will buy slightly used (1 year old / 12000 miles) and I will save HUGE amounts of money. So yes I will buy it, yes I will buy the $44,000 dollar model with everything, I will just buy it after someone else eats my first year depreciation. Kia's products are really really wonderful....You just have to get past the Kia nameplate or just be a damned adult and appreciate a good car when it is built.
Wouldn't this Cadenza be a near-equal alternative to a Lexus ES350 for mucho less dinero? Or maybe a Toyota Avalon (comparably priced)?
Yes, it has more features and space than ES350 for less money; pretty much the only thing the Lexus has in addition is real wood interior trim as an option.
My grandfather bought a 2018 Cadenza Limited over the ES350, Avalon, and Impala. It was by far the best value.

Watching car reviewers on TH-cam or reading the car magazines, you'd think that everyone wants RWD manual hatchbacks and cares about turbo lag and nordschlieffe lap times, when these things are only important to enthusiasts. It was really smart bringing in the voice of the everyday buyer.
I agree. When he said for $44K, I'd get a CTS, i was thinking "not with anything good in it". I have been pricing cars for my next car and i've looked at the Hyundai Azera & Buick Lacrosse and now the Cadenza, then i decided to run the Build & Price on a CTS with similar accessories, specifically adaptive cruise control, ventilated front seats, panoramic moonroof, remote start (Hyundai beats them all with their Bluelink and Apple Watch support, but that's just a side note to my point), and preferably Apple Car Play. To get those features, minus Apple Car Play but the CTS does have somewhat decent phone support, you end up with well over $60K. Now I loved the newer CTS sedans ever since they added those iconic LED lights on the front and made it look more aggressive than previous Cadillacs, but even with a lease I couldn't afford it at that price point. I'll take a FWD semi-luxury car any day with all of the features that I want for a decent price over a stripped down RWD luxury car. I wish they'd do an AWD Cadenza or Azera and I'd probably have an easier decision.

It is absolutely beautiful
KIA has been doing some great things lately with their vehicles, the quality of material, NVH, and ride comfort among others, are being improved very quickly. This new Cadenza to me, is a very good value for a large car however a bit large for my taste. Not sure I would get a Cadenza unless it was equipped with a sport suspension and had some more power. if the hp/tq numbers were reversed, it would get my attention. I got a Volvo S60 T5 in sport guise instead of the Genesis and old Cadenza as I felt they were too large and not sporty enough for me.
I have an Optima hybrid and while the driving dynamics are no where close to sport package equipped 535 that preceded it, the drive is quite comfortable with a lot of equipment for the price. The 2016 Optima is a vast improvement to any before it and the Cadenza seems to be following that formula. I would have to drive this new one to see first to see if it suits me, but for the price based on other cars in it's class, I think this is the one I would lean toward. That being said, the Volvo S90 or XC90 are the vehicles that I have my eye on currently and one that might end up in my driveway.

At that price point ($44K), I would not entertain buying the Cadenza. It's a better argument at $32K. Like you, I'd be looking for something RWD, even if it has less unnecessary tech features. If I had to stay in the realm of large, FWD sedan, I'd much rather go for the Maxima SR. The SR starts at $37K and offers much more in terms of driving dynamics. If you don't care about the added sportiness, the Platinum still starts less than the Cadenza at $39K. I also prefer the exterior and interior looks of the Maxima over the Cadenza. While the Maxima isn't a Luxury car, it is considered near/semi Luxury. For me, it offers more than enough luxury. There isn't anything that the Cadenza has that would make me want to spend $7K+ more to get one.
In addition to that, people don't tend to buy these type of cars with the intentions of keeping them forever. With that, one may also consider resale. I believe the Maxima will hold more value than the Kia by the time one decides to sell/trade it for something new. Searching various car selling outlets, Maximas of comparable trim positions are selling for more than the Cadenzas of the same year (2014-2015). I think this is another reason why people are slow to accept $40-60k Kias. Reputation still plays a big role and they have yet to shake off all of their past automobile history.
i'm not sure what Cadenza you are testing, but I have 2 chargers in the back of my Cadenza, one 12 volt an one USB.
I'd buy the $32K base care for value/style reasons. I think it's a tremendous buy & extremely nice to look at. Would be interested in a hybrid variety version down the road. Currently drive a 2017 Ford Fusion SE Energi which I am very happy with in central Pa.
Interesting reading the comments from 3 years ago. I’ve owned this car for 3 years and it has “all the stuff”. Start pricing out other cars matching every option to the Cadenza SXL and this becomes a bargain. And btw. nobody pays sticker for ANY car. With incentives, my price savings was outstanding! For people concerned about quality: stuff it, no problems it’s a KIA. I’ve done a number of road trips and it gets 32.5 mpg @ 75 mph and is quite the road car. Only issue is FWD in winter. FWD Kia’s aren’t the greatest and the Michelin’s can’t handle the weather. Easily solved by changing out to Winter tires, then the Cadenza becomes a tank. As far as the comparisons to the Maxima, it’s a different car with a annoying CVT and cramped interior space. The better comparison is the Avalon and Lexus ES.

Holy crap! 44k???? I saw the new Cadenza a few weeks back & sat in the base model (the loaded one was locked) & there's no way in hell I'd pay $32k for it… they even take away the clock -__-
For 44k, allow me to take you to the closest SRT shop. Scat Packs goes for 39k & loaded SRTs for 50k. I know they are old, but RWB 485hp 475Ib-Ft is hard to ignore.
Anyway, a Premium ATS 3.6 is 48k & a base CTS is 46k.

The really need to rethink that rear end. Interesting design; their competition models are ahead. Good luck to the buyers regarding reliability.
For someone interested in this car (likes luxury features but doesn't care about driving enjoyment) I would urge them to look at an Optima EX. Very similar features, nice to drive, but about 30K out the door. Hard to justify the extra 15K in my book. For me, I would much rather have an A4 or 330, but the driving matters more than the features to me.
Rear seat USB/12V charging is standard on all '17 Cadenzas. Flip open the cup holder.

Love the looks of this car but you are right it needs a more powerful engine.
I think this is about all that we can expect out of a FWD platform. More power would jut turn this into a torque-steering, understeering, squealing mess.
What they should do is make room for the AWD system from the Sportage. That would fix so many dynamic issues and turn this into a much more formidable competitor for luxury shoppers.
For this car in particular.. it does not need that added torque or turbo charged anything.. it just doesn't scream needs of performance.. I think its what it is.. To me its about the comfort and the luxury appointments..
I think this entire premium/full size near-luxury segment is tough to justify (Cadenza, Avalon, Azera, Impala, etc). At the base price, it makes some sense because it overlaps with a well equipped Optima. In the same way, all of its peers overlap with a smaller FWD sibling in their reflective lines, and a buyer could prefer the larger size or styling for each. There is a possible case for the base model.
The trouble is that at $44k, as the video mentions, this Cadenza now enters very different territory, including well optioned late model midsize luxury or new compact luxury. A 2013 Lexus LS or a 2015 Jaguar XF are some pretty big game and both are around $45k. There had better be some great lease deals and incentives for the Kia, or the dealerships will be reminded what KIA also stands for.
In the final analysis, I feel that all of the bells and whistles cannot overcome the FWD platform, which automatically disqualifies a car from the category of "proper". The badge will also be a negative for many, and is a positive for nobody. Again, this is a small factor at a lower price point. Approaching $50k, it's less about why Kia and more about why not Lexus, Cadillac, or Audi.
I live in Florida and drive a 2016 Genesis sedan. Speaking of which, the Genesis is also around the same price, carries an identical warranty, has superior technology, and is RWD or AWD with an optional 5.0 V8. This brings me back to my first point: tough to justify, much less sell, this segment and the Cadenza.

Use the manual shift option and control the gears, you'll feel the true power
The test drive review cars didn’t have the outlets. My Cadenza 2017 SXL has two usb and a 115V outlet in the back seat. You should have cleared this up with KIA.
Moto man for 44k I would definitely buy this because if I want something with better handling would have to get a BMW 3 series or Mercedes C class without all the options.

I went to Kia and test drove this Cadenza after watching your video. And I happy to report that I will not put my money on this car. This to me feels like a old Buick. It drives bigger and engine is lazy. You really have to put your foot into it to wake it up. If anyone comparing it to Nissan Maxima then I will say its not there yet to compete with Maxima. Maybe toys wise yes. But if you talk about engine, Suspension driving dynamics or overall built quality no. Cheers!
Zeeshan what did you end up getting? I'm interested in a quiet car and this cadenza should be quieter than the maxima. But the maxima is a better deal w all the dealer discounts.

Somehow I doubt that this car is going to work for the other side of the driver height spectrum. Glad it works for her though.
I bought a 2013 Hyundai Azera Limited same car as the Cadenza it was 2 years old with 30,000 miles for $21,000 no way I was going to pay $39,000 for a new one its a overall nice car not as nice as my last Lexus but more features and better stereo for sure and larger interior and $44k for the Kia is a little high for what it is, so if you dont need new but like Hyundai or Kia wait til they are about 2 to 3 years old and you can buy a certified pre owned for about half the cost of new with about 20 or 30,000 miles and still have a great car with a warranty. I have had 6 different Lexus and couple Infiniti's all bought used with about 50 to 70k on them and paid way less than half price of new, I have probably saved over $150,000 in last 10 years buying very nice 1 owner cars. Sure not everyone is going to buy a different car every 3 years or so like we do but most of the time I can average buying car and drive 3 years and maybe lose $3,000 in value over those 3 years when we sell but to have a car payment for only 3 years instead of 5 or 6 years makes up for itsure I have had a couple cars in past be a little money hungry with repairs but nothing that would make me rethink of buying new.
Adam smith It's a great idea to buy used and that's what I'm planning on for this car. However, I hate the hassle of reselling cars privately. What do you do w your car after 3 yrs? Do you trade it in, go to CarMax or sell it privately. Thanks
If I was shopping for a new car in that category, at the 44k price, I'd get that. If you went for a C class you wouldn't get all the features or safety tech, you'd get the badge up front and RWD. I personally wouldn't be anywhere near this category if I had 44k, I'd get a really nice RX7 and a CTSV manual wagon. Florida

I love it! But would I buy one? No. Too afraid of resale value because I think the general mass of the population has not caught up with how far this cie has come. So my first alternative is probably the new Buick LaCrosse. Still not stellar resale but I think, better. What do I drive? A Toyota Tundra. Where do I live? New Brunswick, Canada
I giggle because everything that she talked about as far as the features except for the extendable seat I have in my 2015 Hyundai. That's the problem is the newest Hyundai sonata is not equal to the one I have. As I have the limited trim and it stands out for above the 2022 or 2024 sonata. I have a 2.4 l naturally motor with190hp I have a panoramic sunroof heated and cooled seats in the front and heated seats in the rear. Heated steering dual zone temperature all of the safety features blind spot monitoring active cruise control Lane keep assist backup camera leather seats. And with my discounts I purchased it at $25,000
My 2 cents. So...dynamics vs value vs brand with a 32k-44k price tag. Let's just pull all badges from every car and just buy the car based on value and practicality on a 32k-44k price tag. This car would be my top wanted list. If you want a brand name then you will miss the size (space) and lots features. In the unfortunate reality. Folks judge you by the things(brand) you have. I would say lots of people will sacrifice the sizes and go with the Benz(c), BMW(3 series) or Audis(A4) if the price tag is at 44k, BUT folks with a little brain power would think about maintenance, reliability and cost of owning a luxury brand would think twice. BUT WAIT, there's more...don't forget insurance cost...gas(93)prices. hmmmm...the finer details in life is quite expensive. ;)
Lol try getting all of the features and style you get in this car in those BMWs and Benzes for 44k...she's right, people want stuff, and the value is definitely appealing with this car.

TOTALLY agree, she's great! Knows her stuff AND she is a proper runner! We never stopped doing anything. She is on the show when we are both in the same place . . . that just has not been in a while. We'll get her back at some point.

Swap CVT for six speed manual , move driven wheels to the rear, lose two doors... Done!
I would buy this for 44K everyday over a nicely loaded CLA or base C-Class or whatever luxury brand. I live in Albania, Europe and drive a 2013 VW Polo TSI which you guys I think dont get in the US. I dont like the engine on that Cadenza though.
Nice car but wouldn't pay $44k for it. Would probably be a steal after two years old. I could get into a 2014 BMW 550 with less than 20k miles for this. Dentist from Raleigh, NC
Yes, you could get a BMW or Mercedes for the price of this, but you should have pointed out that they'd be stripped down with next to no features. While you've pointed out that you don't care about that, the reality is that most people do.
For my interests, and people that watch this channel, I wouldn't buy it even though it's a very fine car. I'd get something that's a little more enthusiast oriented and/or built using innovative methods. That said I'd recommend it to someone who isn't an enthusiast because of the tangible value for money, as I have before with Hyundai
if only AWD is available.
For 40k+, I would like a VW golf R... But, it isn't same kind of car. I'm driving around in my father's S63, and I really do not want to drive a bigger car with out that 5.5L V8.
I'd never pay 44T for one. Too many other choices open up then. 3 series, A4, loaded SUV's like the Honda Pilot. 38T is about all I'd pay for a mid tier Cadenza. I think that's where it makes the most sense. Perhaps as the brands appeal grows into Lexus territory then people will feel more comfortable paying 44T. Not that it's not worth it now, it just lacks a little name recognition.
So many things you wrote are incorrect Pavel. 1) There is nothing similar between a VW Jetta and 2017 Audi A4. If you believe that to be true then tell me what the similarities are? 2) Honda Civic: 182″ L x 71″ W x 55 and a wheelbase of 106..3. Audi A4: 186″ L x 73″ W x 56″ H and a wheelbase of 110.6. 3) It all depends how big a car you need. I personally don't need a big car and some people do. You can not equate size with quality. Have you ever sat in or test drove an A4? Although smaller, the quality and driving characteristics is above that of the Kia or even the Lexus ES. 4) According to the 2016 Consumer Reports survey Audi is #1 in reliability.

you don't know what you talking about Pavel. Get you facts right. Audi A4 is build on B platform when Jetta,Golf, A3 are build on A platform. Corrent platform for A4 is B9. Jetta is Golf or A3, not A4. A4 is higher scale. BTW im an owner of 2014 Cadenza and that car is just crazy good. But there are things i owuld like in new Cadenza but is not there. More torque, atleast 40 plus, knob instead of touch screen, rear wheel or all wheels. Thats all. Otherwise i have no complains. Cadenza is more A6 then A4, thats for sure. A6 with this equip cost 25-30k more.
If you really think a 2017 A4 is "basically a Jetta" then you're ignorant and no nothing about cars.
ik this is a 2 year old comment but here. Pavel is wrong about calling a A4 a Jetta, they are worlds apart, but I do agree with everything else he says. 44k ain't that much and buying German brands isn't that smart these days with the new k900 and the 2019 G90 coming.
I would just go pick up a very nice VW cc. Or Audi A5
either the GT when offered or this....maxima cvt was unusual to say the least, germans out of warranty are way to expensive and currently in 2011 optima so this is next step. well if the GT isn't released that is.....accords, camry, mks, altima, fusion all fall short in total practicality.
Honestly I would rather get a Mercedes C300 at the $44,000 price point. I just like the car better and the fact it's smaller
44k is too much for this car. That's a comfortable range for a well equipped C class or A4

I feel like there's no point in getting this when the G80 has more power around the same amount of space and with the bace model at 42k your getting around the same equipment hells even if you wanted to go way sporty you could buy one hell of a charger with around 44k (r/t W/sat pack)
Can't believe I forgot to mention the G80/Hyundai Genesis when Jill and I were chatting. The V6 starts at US$38,000 and could be well equipped for the similar money. Need to have a further think on that . . .

Yes, the SR model (only the SR model) handles better than this Kia even considering the Maxima's terrible transmission.
I believe the Maxima handles better than most of its actual competitors. Its actual competitors should not include sports sedans 3 series or C class etc.
The back looks like the new Elantra
that is the worst comparison I've ever heard. it looks nothing, absolutely nothing like the Elantra. You wanna know what car looks like the Elantra? the Genesis/G90....the back is damn near identical to the Elantra, basically a big ass Elantra.
Its possibly more Buick-ish in the back.

k900 good comparison to top model of the new cadenza. I still own my 02 spectra gsx. would a buy another Kia um no had enough dealings with their poor service and warranty department. I'd go Hyundai if I'm going Korean, they off more support and take care of their liking following customers. we never got a thanks for helping Kia in the old days. I'm all in. I would rather this car than the maxima or a Buick? really? I would choose this over a base cts or a base anything from the Germans. I'm sorry but the cost of maintenance and the depreciation from new is horrendous. I agree with previous comments. It meets all requirements and is a wiser buy for the money. Plus. you always look like a rich snob driving a BMW Mercedes or Audi. No offense guys and gals. Its true. I rather have folks stop me and ask what it is than say, oh I wonder about the German sedan guy does for a living?

Agreed, this is a tough sell for basically anyone watching this video...but then car lovers are really not the Cadenza's target market. The value proposition here is clear, and it makes sense for someone who doesn't want to spend any money on sporty dynamics or brand prestige, but does want their money to buy composure, tech and features, spaciousness, and some reliability.

My biggest problem with Kia, and even Hyundai(though they're getting better) is that they don't have a strong design identity integrated in their vehicles....Very generic looking exteriors and interiors in my opinion.
This is no longer true. Designs and dimensions are pleasing and not generic especially compared to their rivals. Look are the latest surveys and you will find the quality is improving as well. Value proposition presented by the brands is definitely compelling.
As for fuel economy, there's more to it than just engine technology. In fact, Hyundai's engine is named one of top 10 in Wards award and Mercedes wanted to get supplied from Hyundai on 4 cylinder ones....
MPG has more to do with transmission and total weigh of the car..that's why Japanese decided to go with CVT despite complaints by people.....Hyundai, on the other hand, decided to go with DCT which is the same case with VW......so if you compare Hyundai's DCT with CVT in Japanese counterparts, MPG is either same or better.....Hyundai Elantra Eco gets close to 50 MPG and that's how it is with Honda Civic with CVT.....But Hyundai needs to work on their DCT a little more to be called refined while Japanese CVT is refined enough only if you can put up with that sound....

One of my friends was driving a 2012 kia Cerato, it was the worst economical car, with terrible safety features, the car was making a lot of noisy sounds so it was not comfortable.
Now i can tell you all the downsides about these cars, but instead, why not
you tell me some upsides about these cars?
