"I wonder if "pigment" is a play on pygmy, as the furtive pygmy was the one to find the dark soul".. That was a pretty spot on assumption now in retrospect.
TheMorbidHobo I didn't jump myself but I remember seeing a "try jumping" message and next to it was a bloodstain so, I said nope and used a homeward bone. I almost fell for it Vatti. I was going to check if there is a second ledge.
Finding Vilhelm's corpse among all those rotting bodies is one of Dark Souls' greatest moments. I love when From do stuff like that. It's like finding Kirk's body in the first Dark Souls.
4:20 “ you think pigment is play on words for pigmy? The furtive pigmy is the one who founded the dark soul of humanity. Maybe I’m just looking too much into it” no you couldn’t have been more right lmfao
ViolentDetour Lol not really, after jumping it shows him at the bonfire he would've most likely traveled to before attempting it. I was about to try it then I remembered as he said it totally works and takes you home the video loaded up to his last bonfire
Killing Gael at the altar actually unlocks a second set of dialogue. He's pretty broken the first time you talk to him. After you kill him and reload he's excited. He knows he's found his ash. It's a fun detail.
"Don't worry, it's totally safe." "PLUNGE FROM THE PLANK, AND HURRY HOME!" - Oroboro's last words. I hope you piss a lot of people off with that, Vaati.
Zappy Caboose hey, he said you'd go back home, didn't say HOW... xD also it won't kill you if you have the silvercat ring on, i nabbed the parting flame and left the pyromancer to his madness by falling off the platform with the ring on... it does hurt though, A LOT
I like how when the corvian setller first mentions the "fools on the outside" youd probably think he means all of the weird crow creatures that are like him but feral. The second time he refers to "fools on the outside", however, it becomes clear he means those not in the painting, outsiders to ariandel
when the crowlike creature says that they burn the world in order to build a new one and afirms that thats the "thing they do better than those on the outside" i think it's a reference to how all the lords try to keep the first flame burning with the soul of men instead of letting it fade in to the age of darkness... they don't "let go" theyre world
Exactly what I was thinking. Two very similar situations. Both worlds rotting away, and both being faced with individuals who want keep that rotting, decrepit world, rather than lettjng nature take its source.
Yo Vaati, I haven't seen it mentioned but there's a cool little detail during phase 2 of the Friede fight. You can hit Ariandel's arms to eventually get the stagger and riposte. After he recovers though, he only holds the bowl in one hand. You can still hit the remaining arm to stagger it seems too, though I've never been able to do it. Love your vids man!
@@VaatiVidya In the painted world there is what is probably the mummified body of the painter's mother, and her mother I can assure you that it is not Priscilla or some dragon
I'm actually pretty proud of myself, I struggled through the DLC without guides and I found all of this except the titanite slab from the corvian guy. Thanks!
This probably is known but in Italian, the female version of the word "cold" is "Fredda", pronounced the same way as Friede with an "A" sound at the end. It was new to me that Elfriede had its own meaning
Also "El" in hebrew is used in names in referring god (for example angels'), so cutting the El can also refer to betray to Londor's Church and belief (seeing Primordial serpents like gods or something similar).
For me Yuria killed Yoel and I was called that but I left the painted world to get my "true power" released and then when I went back in they started using their lord of hollows dialogue.
Yea if you're on the Hollow questline and haven't managed to screw it up in the 100 ways that you can, you get the special dialog. I don't think it matters where you are in the quest as long as it's not marked as failed already.
And if we call them primordial serpents, we see one being pushed down or rejected while the other is raised up or accepted. The Sable church choosing Kaathe's teachings over Frampts?
@@ginjadingo2941 which is completely pointless since pure dex builds have fare better weapons, realistically you play that schyte with int dex so you can actually try to frostbite someone.
I'm not nuts for thinking the mural has two snakes instead of the white cords, one be killed by a woman, the other being embraced by the other women, am I?
The statue behind Ariandel heavily reminds me of the Snake Eyes bosses from Sekiro... Or just the descended okami Gunners in general. They have the exact cloth on their face and fur on their shoulders/torso. Plus they are associated with snakes, worshipping the serpent gods and all that...
@VaatiVidya Gael is actually immortal, if you kill him and then go to firelink and return. He will be alive again and have a new dialogue and he will almost mock you for trying to kill him.
@@markalvarado4450 That's more than likely because he has nothing left to live for, besides fighting us so that we can take the pigment back to the painter since he trusts that we can
When the crow man says "the fools outside " don't you think he's referring to the people outside the painting and not the other crows who betrayed them ??
Carlos Peralta Most definitely, I got a very "They should burn the world/let the world end to make way for a new one" vibe from him, which is definitely not what we've been doing by linking the fire
Brian Brian couldn't said it better myself. Maybe he hates how the world outside was slowly dying or "rotting" away and somehow ended up in the painting. As he saw his new home seeking the same fate he begs the player to link the fire or in this case "burn the world" to begin a new world for the it's residence.
He says "the fools outside" twice. First inside the house and another one outside. But yeah, he means the people outside the painting the second time he says that. And he basically wants a "Ragnarok" to happen.
Ariandel constantly uses his blood to keep his painting... not destroyed. I think we can say he "links the fire" for the painting as we do for the real world. Exept real world is made of fire, and souls help fire to burn, and painting is made of pigment - blood of Ariandel (he uses his flail for this in trailer). So the Ending crow man wishes for real world is to give Eyes to firekeeper, let the fire fade, and wait a brand new world to be created from dark. Well, at least I see it this way....
About an another Secret: Sulyvahn was born in the Painted World and he left the Painted World as a young man. Maybe that's why Irithyll looks like a part of the Painted World, he made Irithyll to his own Painted World. That's why the creatures in Irithyll looking familiar to the creatures in the Painted World, and that's why the Dancer and Vordt looking like Monsters. Maybe Sulyvahn can't live with humans, he can only live with Creatures from the Painted World and that's why he turned everyone to monsters. Edit: I think i knew what happen with Sulyvahn and why he is Aldrich's right hand. I read the Lore pieces and about the moon that is a part of his motivation. Remember the Picture with the two women's and the snake? I remember that Dark Sun Gwyndolin had these snakes as legs and Gwyndolin is female and male at the same time and that's why there are two girls on the picture, but one girl is a guy. I think Aria is Yorshkas daughter she looks more like Yorshka to be honest. The statue behind Ariandel is Gwyndolin, because it looks like Gwyndolin. Gwyndolin left Anor Londo to live in the Painted World of Ariandel, because of Yorshka, she told him she had a daughter... Aria. Gwyndolin tried to find her daughter and he met Elfriede and Ariandel, Gwyndolin and Elfriede became a child Sulyvahn. Gwyndolin told Sulyvahn stories about the moon and he gave him her/his moon blessing. But Gwyndolin left the Painted World because he heard about the Lords of Cinder and Aldrich's Church. Sulyvahn was raised by Elfriede, Elfriede teaches him the Ice Magic and she told him that the fire is no solution and the gods are no longer needed. After couple years Sulyvahn heard from the new outsider, the Corvians about Aldrich's church and Lothric. He left the Painted World of Ariandel to visit Aldrich, Aldrich told him about his visions and Sulyvahn remembered Elfriede's words, he joined Aldrich. Sulyvahn was on the way to Iirithyll he knew Irithyll is only an illusion created by his father/mother. He corrupted Irithyll and made it to his illusion and he turned it into a new Painted World, the only world he knew. He imprisoned Gwyndolin for Aldrich and Yorshka because he knew her daughter and couldn't kill her. Sulyvahn sacrificed his own father/mother for a higher purpose, he didn't hate all the gods. To take care of Irithyll, Sulyvahn created a puppet based on the puppet to enter the Painted World of Ariames, he heard about it from Ariandel, his wife painted the world. Sulyvahn gave the puppet to the church, so Aldrich and his Priest can enter the new Painted World of Irithyll. I know there is a time where Sulyvahn was one of Lothrics knights and i think that's why the dancer is his slave because he heard about her. But i only want to talk about his connection to Aldrich and Irithyll. Maybe both Yorshka and Gwyndolin left Anor Londo to live in the Painted World and after their return, they created Irithyll, because of the rumors about Aldrich or Lothric.
Hultiore Sounds plausible, after all if Sullyvahn came from the painted world, a land not meant for the eyes of outsiders, perhaps that's why the outrider knights were turned mad by the gaze of his eyes.
Hultiore Possible, i think that seeing how sulyvahn was a sorcerer specializing with ice (i.e the frost sorceries) he was naturally drawn to the boreal valley and his influence and sorcery eventually froze anor londo. its very possible that his eye rings haunted the knights with visions of the painted world and the forlorn that lurk there, turning them to be more like the wolves and corvians that inhabit ariandel
Somebody on reddit even came up with a theory about Sulyvahn taking over Anor Londo not for power but for revenge, since the painted world was the home of outcasts in the eyes of old gods. So what way is more fitting to say "fuck you" than take over their home and let the son of the first OG be devoured?
Snow Drake What if the Father is the mad pyromancer we fight in the DLC? Pyromancy flame clearly states that he gave up his flame to save his monstrous wife (fuck you Fromsoft), and he invades you in the same location where Priscilla once stood... perhaps he guards his wife's resting place in his madness?
Killroy Was Here Hmmm... Now all that's left is to figure out a specific time frame for his life. If we could find some evidence that puts his life at around the same time as the existence of Slave Knight Uncle, we could have a very strong case for the potential father of Aria (White Haired Girl)
I'm not ashamed to admit that i've gone on that forum and paid people to update it - we rely on it so much and they deserve a lot of props! I just don't like talking about it publicly because..more people with CE isn't exactly a good thing :P Thanks mate.
VaatiVidya Haha, true enough. That's very noble of you, so thanks on behalf of all us Free Cam using creators! Now to go see if I can go grease any palms for an update! =D
@mennobarten on twitter managed to texture dump the glass painting I was talking about! Check it out: twitter.com/mennobarten/status/792651432398848000
maybe it has a connection with the londor ending. In that ending you don't pursue the cycle of fire or even put the world into darkness like in dark souls 1 (or like in the fire keeper ending) no, in that ending you usurp the fire. The way i see it, it is probably a representation of that usurpation: In order to go beyond that neverending cycle and it's binary conclusion you have to choose a third path. Killing these two snakes is a way to show that you can't follow that way before to destroy these two ideals. Also it makes sense that these two women are representing the sable church, we know that yuria and two of her sister created the church. Friede is in the painting, probably for a very long time now so only two sisters are leading the church.
Maybe the 2 snakes represent Kaathe and Frampt respectively, because they represent the cycle of light and dark, which you break with the usurpation of the fire thus why they're either dead, or just not intertwined anymore. (My comment tying in with johan grenier, but i can't tag people for some reason)
Kryce people just don't like ds2 , it feels like a different franchise altogether. It's clear from feel the same way as thy avoid it entirely apart from a few items
Daniel Gallagher It's all down to one's own preference - I for one enjoyed every second of Dark Souls 2, it was a refreshing and enjoyable entry to the series.
Agreed, I love Dark Souls 2, and I wish it didn't get all the "lel it's bad becauz lul" stuff. I'm fine with people having valid reasons to not like it, like they didn't enjoy the atmosphere or areas, etc. But not things like "Dks2 is bad becaus dks1 is better"
"It's the one thing we do right, unlike those fools on the outside." This sounds to me like he's talking about 'our world'. Gives me goosepumps... this games series is just magnificent.
Here's something interesting: Vilhelm was originally intended to be a female knight. Removing his helm reveals a (hollowed) female face. You can apply the untrue dark ring to him to see what his face looks like unhollowed. Additionally, the notes in his subtitles refer to Vilhelm as a she. "(Various attack sounds... she wields a large straight sword and a flaming flamberge)" Kinda makes sense since I did find his set to be a bit on the effeminate side. Especially those pants. Those are some lady pants.
What if the world outside the painting... is a work of fiction created by Miyazaki? Only Miyazaki's blood can douse the flame and prevent the series from ending and starting from scratch!
what if Ariandel and Ariamas are like, different stages/time limes of the same painting? Maybe priscilla has died off long ago and friede follows her image (bare feet, disappearing move, scythe)?
Tristan Milner But if the two women represent the two younger sisters of the Sable Church, that doesn't add up, since Yuria claims to be doing Kaathe's bidding by finding you.
What if they're not two women? but instead represent the two ashen ones to enter the painted world? would be usurpers of the flame that might insight that profaned black flame.
One snake is being stabbed by a sword while the other is picked up. Could represent how the sable church worships Kaathe while they hate Frampt (presumably)
Here in Germany, Elfriede is a very outdated name and only older woman still have it :). My neighbours grandmas name is actually Elfriede and everytime I see her now I have to think of this boss xD. Its kind of weird. But yeah I can confirm that Friede means peace in german.
TheLumpy107 Yeah but Friedes full name is Elfriede so my point still stands :). Btw. Friede or Frieden doesnt matter, both translate to peace in english. I dont think it means anything significant ingame too but its still interesting.
Not to be pedantic, but Friede or Frieden does make a difference And the name for a person is Frieda not Friede, which is just the short version of Elfriede ^^ again, not to be pedantic but the german language is.. btw greetings from Germany :P
If you listen carefully before you agro the ladder tree, when your close, you can hear it sobbing in what sounds like a female voice. Thumbs this up so vaati can see it
Vaati, I commented about the "glass murals" you mentioned in Ariandel's boss room on your "The Story of Ariandel" video. So yeah, people did notice it. :) I personally think those are two snakes, not two cords. If they represent Frampt and Kaathe, and the looming figures represent the other sisters of the Sable Church, I wonder...what do we know about the third sister, again? That she's often mentioned alongside dark sorcery and miracles? If she'll feature in the next DLC, I wonder if we'll learn more about Frampt and Kaathe too? If one of the serpents is dead...just brainstorming here, but what if they meant to kill Frampt and accidentally killed Kaathe? Or did one of the sisters want to kill Kaathe for some reason? I say this based on the Japanese version of Yuria's dying words, indicating that Kaathe is dead. There's no way to know until we get more information, but I believe that image is giving us some insight to the three sisters, and what we can expect with the new content. Watch, when the new DLC drops, everyone will be pointing back to this image, I'm sure of it.
Glad to see someone else speculating about the third sister. Yeah, she seems a lot more adept with magic, although they do describe the sisters as swordswomen. There's mention of an Abyss Dragon in the Milwood Greatbow's description, which sounds a lot like some ultimate weapon the Sable Church is hiding...
I think the snakes could represent the Undead. Dark Souls 1 Covetous Serpent rings: "The serpent is an imperfect dragon and symbol of the Undead. Its habit of devouring prey even larger than itself has led to an association with gluttony." In all Dark Souls games the player character defeats enemies that are presumed to be more powerfull than him/her in order to progress through the game and reach the First Flame. The snakes in the images could represent the Undead kind as a whole because all Undead have the potential to link the fire, though this doesn't mean they will or want to link it.
As to the panel you mentioned, it's not a cord that the figure on the right is reaching towards- they're actually two snakes. You can see the face of the one on the left. My speculation- they aren't snakes at all, but rather Serpents. Primordial Serpents. The same serpents displayed on the door.
sundowave In reality? Not much. Semantics, mostly. Serpent is more of a body shape, where snake is the particular real animal. But for the most part, they're used interchangeably. In this case, the use of serpent is to bring the perceived connection with Primordial Serpents to the fore.
9:20 imho these "cords" are stylized snakes. the figure on the right seems to be choking out the snake, while the figure on the left stabs it thru with a sword.
agreed - and I would also say that it looks like the woman on the left has killed that snake (impaled on the staff/sword she's leaning on), and the one on the right has or is killing it as well (strangled/crushed). The implications are very interesting for the trio if those two snakes are meant to represent the two serpents from the earlier games.
your predictions with certain things on the lore are outstandingly accurate. great example when you spoke of the pigment for the picture, you were absolutely right. Awesome man!
Hey Vaati, do you think that, perhaps, Pontiff Sulyvahn is a corvian? He is from the painted world, and he sprouts wings in the bossfight just a corvian does.
Perhaps he based his wings off the wings of his fellow painting dwellers? Also, I think that Sulyvahn left the painted world before it began to rot, given that it should take quite some time for him to go from random sorcerer who knows weird ice magic to Darth Pope of the mightiest church in the lands.
I doubt it. He isn't hunched over like the other Corvians, and his wings look more like the Deep corruption you see in the Cathedral than crow wings. Plus he doesn't howl and scream like they do.
VaatiVidya, I think the dlc might have revealed a boss for the second dlc, this is in the Millwood Greatbow's description: "It is said that the Millwood Knights used these to face their sworn enemy, THE ABYSS DRAGON" Since Aria mentioned the Dark Soul, it is likely the next DLC has something to do with the abyss, therefore, I think the Abyss Dragon may be a potential boss in the next dlc
I kinda assumed it was Kalameet, but it does make more sense for it to be something else. I'd be down for another dragon fight. We didn't really get any in 3.
Me too, the nameless king was awesome but I want a straight up dragon fight. I don't think it is kalameet because kalameet never was described as an abyss dragon but rather as a "ancient dragon", plus the location of the dragon, indicates it is in Millwood or at least where the Millwood warriors come from, which we know is not oolacile.
Baldwin IV I think the Abyss Dragon is Ocelotte. The follower torch describes Pus of Man as a manifestation of the abyss and they can be found in Lothric/The King's Garden.
Going past the crabs into the ice biome where u kill the tree is also a sorcery tome called snap freeze. snap freeze in its item description states how Sulyvan was born and raised in the painting. It describes him as a young sorcerer which he left the spell behind. idk seems like an interesting topic but im sure lots of people already know about this
Do you think Dunnel was Aria's father? And by extension Priscilla his "hideous spouse". Since you find him in her old arena, and priscilla was described rather unfavorably in DS1.
That is my theory as well. Possibly Yorshka is also Priscilla's daughter as well, but one who somehow ended up outside the painting. Some of Aria's dialogue, mostly: "Of a cold, dark, and very gentle place. One day, it will make someone a goodly home," reminds me a bit of Priscilla's insistence that, "this land is peaceful, its inhabitents kind." But that is perhaps more of a stretch.
Anyone else notice that when the Big Wolf dies, it kinda perks back up before it fades, like it's waking up to the call of it's master? Might just be me, though.
Nah he means when you "kill" the dog OUTSIDE the boss fight, just as it disappears. It just moves on to the next encounter. It definitely perks up like he said, like the Gravetender is slowly calling it back to the boss arena.
"Soon, uncle Gael will bring me the pigment. The dark soul of man..." I think the player character with the dark sigil was what Gael was searching for. Sending the player into the painting, thus ending the rule of the rot, allowing the new painting to be made.
***** yeah, i've never been to an arena without someone using that weapon now. I tried using it and it's super brainless to use. It's weapon skill is infinite scythe flying everywhere and most of the time, someone will get hit by it.
Man, I absolutely LOVE Ashes of Ariandel. It is by far my favorite DLC in the Souls trilogy thus far. Not the best in all From Souls games because it's hard to beat The Old Hunters.
What about Ludleth? "The eyes show a world destitute of fire, a barren plane of endless darkness. A place born of betrayal. So I will'd myself Lord, to link the fire, to paint a new vision. What is thine intent?"" Does this mean anything?
It's a dialogue when you got the Eyes of the Fire Keeper. The Fire Keeper that eyes belonged to has died with her world gone dark, as you see in the dark Firelink Shrine. So what he says probably means the eyes show the vision of the alternative world that has already lost its flame. A world where its champion betrayed the tradition of linking the fire. Ludleth told us that he became Lord Of Cinder on his own will to save the world. And now he ask what is our motivation. As you're able to choose to betray them all, and snuff out the fire, just like what happened to the other world. I think "To paint a new vision" only implies 'to restore the world, and let it be born again in new age'. Not necessarily relate to the painted world.
abysswalker I guess that by vision he means that he wants to see a shrine with the fire linked instead of the vision the eyes gave him of a darkened shrine while with the paintings it just means a new landscape in the painting?
Maybe a bit out there but the use of the term PAINT seems meaningful. It could be implying that the larger world of the main game is another painting. The cycle is present in both, there is a fire filled basin in both, bells that toll to keep the cycle going in both, and regular repaintings would explain why locations change dramatically between games in ways that can't really be explained by age and normal decay even though major features are preserved .............. O.O
another thought, Aria needs to see flame to create a painting. T first game explains that the world was cold and nothing really happened but then came fire out of no where and stuff started happening. Which would fit the theme of a blank canvas suddenly having stuff added to it. also, paints, pigments and so on fade over time just like the fire does, that idea is even more of a stretch though.
Regarding the snake "statue" in Friede's boss room, It's possibly the result of crude taxidermy. A wire is typically used to pose snakes for taxidermy, and in the history of the craft, wooden mannequins would be used instead of stuffing or clay products. Additionally, snake skins are often sewn back together, which could explain some of the tearing between the "statue's" scales that looks like cloth. While the head is made of stone, you noted that the head was meant to be hidden away, and it's possible the missing head on the statue sealing the room was repurposed. The statue's head might thus just be there to prop up the intended shape of whatever that piece of craftsmanship is meant to be. Another thing of note is that Priscilla neither drops any Dragon Scales nor is immune to the bleed status effect in Dark Souls 1, making her the only dragon or dragon descendant in the game to be vulnerable to that effect other than the basic blue drakes (and even they have Dragon Scales as a rare drop). As such, it's possible Priscilla might only have snake-like scales akin to the serpent men, themselves failed dragons. Ultimately, Priscilla may be more akin to a snake than a dragon (horns aside), and as such, the nature of the "statue" behind Ariandel might actually be her remains assembled in an effigy of sorts. As to why so little remains would be present, there is the theory that Aldrich ate her to obtain the Lifehunt Scythe. Not only can he still use the scythe when Vow of Silence is disabling all of his sorceries and miracles, but his right-hand man, Pontiff Sulyvahn, comes from the Painted World and knows enough about it that he created his own barrier system that uses dolls as keys. This means that, upon having his dream while devouring Gwyndolin, Aldrich could have been directed toward the prey he envisioned by Sulyvahn, digested her quicker than Gwyndolin (who is stronger than Priscilla, judging by the value of his boss soul and the souls he drops upon defeat), and someone made an effigy out of whatever (snake) skin and fur was left. This could also explain why Aldrich presumably has the genuine scythe as opposed to using a miracle like the player.
***** the events of the outside firelink shrine were proven to take place in the past. ex: has hinted by the hidden dialog from the shrine handmaiden. Mordalon Reminiscent, meaning that it reminds me of.
Mitchell Dueck the fact that they don't give you the answers is the best part. They give you just enough that you can start to piece together what might be going on. That's why all of these lore channels have such different and interesting theories.
It is also worth noting that the tree from #1 also has her own unique moveset (I haven't found another tree use it, at least) and that she can be heard crying when walking up to her and fighting her, and killing her
Jesus, your voice, the best story telling voice ever, and match the npc "charismy" voice as well and the Dark Souls theme, I found my self watching the Dark Souls lore not for the lore itself
Those white "cords" look a lot like white snakes. The sword stabbing into the one on the left, the figure on the right choking the life out of the second. Maybe not important but it could be related to the carvings of the two snakes outside. Maybe someone in the church didn't like Kaathe and Frampt.
Álvaro Barquín Okay well, like I said, I never played Witcher, so I don't know of it's quality. However, I also really don't know what the FUCK you people going on about this being a "2 hour DLC" are on about. I was SL 194 when I started this DLC and I beat every boss Solo and explored everything. It took me easily 6-7 hours, and I've spent maybe another 3 or 4 hours having fun with the new PvP arena and game modes, so please, stop taking shit out of your ass and throwing it at dark souls. I payed the extra $30 up front to buy the delux edition of Dark Souls 3 and have never once regretted it. I won't shit on the Witcher until i've played it, but I'd be surprised if it's content is anywhere near the same quality and depth of any game in the Soulsborne franchise. I'll bite my tongue if I play it and it is.
@14megasxlr i think that when you compare this dlc with dark souls 2 dlcs you see the difference. this dlc makes me feel empty. i didn't feel satisfy when i finish this, idunno something is missing. you played every inch of this Dlc to make gameplay more longer. however this shouldn't happen. the dlc should longer than now. pvp mode is good though.
You know... The snake statue with the segments resembled monsters from Sekiro. Vaguely- particularly the palace nobels. Kind of also reminds me of the mechanical gadgets. Like the shinobi arm...
Anyone have any thoughts on a connection between the DLC's emphasis on the word and the state of being of Forlorn and the Forlorn invaders in DS2 SotfS? Several NPCs mention it, the first coming to mind being the crow man in the kitchen. The Forlorn armor set description reads: "Born of Aldia's obsession with the First Sin, the Forlorn lost both their corporeal form and a world to call their own. Now they drift into other worlds, ever in search of a home. But without self, one has neither beginning nor end, and so the Forlorn have only to wander." The line about losing a world to call their own seems to me to at least been tenuously linked to the idea of the painted worlds, and drifting into other worlds is very like what the PC in DS3 is doing in the DLC. But notably the PC is NOT forlorn and hasn't lost themselves.
Vati I know you might not see this but you have been a huge part of all the things I love and hold dear. Thank you for your dedication to the souls borne franchise
Vati your a true Souls champ, if it was you writing "Try Jumping" notes on the tower id be almost totally convinced it was safe and then immediately regret my life choices.
Chanchillavanilla it is a trick he has pulled because I remember thinking "hey this is just like dark souls 1, let's try it" then landing on the floor where I started a boss fight that lasted for 1 second
So,now we know about Yuria, the middle sister.Friede, the eldest, but not Lillianne. If they left her out like that then she must be making an appearance in the 2nd DLC.
There are more important characters that have to make an appearance in DLC 2. I am ok with what we knew about the 3 sisters now. I want to knew what happened to Gwynevere, Gertrude, Velka, Kaathe and Frampt and what the deal is with the Abyss Dragon mentioned in this DLC. Than ofc what the painter girl means with "the dark soul of man". So this second DLC has to be huge if they really want to finish the series.
RedEyed XaXa Lillianne is part of the dark souls 3 Storyline. She's part of the sable church which plays a big role in ds3.Also,Lilliane the youngest is a story teller, just like Irina of Carim, but Lillianne tells dark tales.THAT IS LITERALLY ALL WE HAVE ABOUT HER.She could atleast be a dark sorcery vendor in DLC 2.Also,they can't just leave Lilliane like that. There has to be atleast 4 more items of some sort that shed some light into her story.

I like how when the corvian setller first mentions the "fools on the outside" youd probably think he means all of the weird crow creatures that are like him but feral. The second time he refers to "fools on the outside", however, it becomes clear he means those not in the painting, outsiders to ariandel
when the crowlike creature says that they burn the world in order to build a new one and afirms that thats the "thing they do better than those on the outside" i think it's a reference to how all the lords try to keep the first flame burning with the soul of men instead of letting it fade in to the age of darkness... they don't "let go" theyre world
i like this
Exactly what I was thinking.

Laddersmith Gilligan's Wet Dream. Ahahahaha!
It’s not pronounced the same way at all, though.
@@drommellocolcappello7426 pretty sure Miyazaki and the rest of the creative team didn’t dig that deep into languages.
@@RestlessTheRED the pronunciation is pretty close, if not the same
you do not have to choose the "Lord of Hollow" ending to make Friede refer to you as Lord of Londor. Doing the wedding ceremony is enough.
For some reason I killed Yoel and never talked to Yuria and I still go that line of dialogue about being the Lord of Hollow from Friede
You dont even have to do ceremony. You need only to speak with Yuria.

The way yuria says “who would abandon Londor” made elfriede sound like a tragic tale
Hultiore
Sounds plausible, after all if Sullyvahn came from the painted world, a land not meant for the eyes of outsiders, perhaps that's why the outrider knights were turned mad by the gaze of his eyes.
Bread-Sama Yes maybe and that'd why Irithyll has invisible Creatures.
Damn, liking the sound of this theory more by the comment :)
If Priscilla had a child, that means somebody got to touch fluffy tail. Sorry boys, it appears this waifu is taken.
Snow Drake so does that mean the chosen undead thrust his crystal halberd into her gaping dragon?
That Guy i think a lance is much appreciated XD
Snow Drake What if the Father is the mad pyromancer we fight in the DLC? Pyromancy flame clearly states that he gave up his flame to save his monstrous wife (fuck you Fromsoft), and he invades you in the same location where Priscilla once stood... perhaps he guards his wife's resting place in his madness?
Well Dark Souls 1 did refer to Priscilla as an abomination, so maybe
Killroy Was Here Hmmm... Now all that's left is to figure out a specific time frame for his life. If we could find some evidence that puts his life at around the same time as the existence of Slave Knight Uncle, we could have a very strong case for the potential father of Aria (White Haired Girl)
If Priscilla is the white head girl(or aria)'a mother, I wonder if Priscilla told her that the world is peaceful and its inhabitants are kind?

Interesting...they are 2 snakes... like dead... Maybe both figures represent the sable church, but what does the snakes mean? they killed them?
maybe it has a connection with the londor ending.
In that ending you don't pursue the cycle of fire or even put the world into darkness like in dark souls 1 (or like in the fire keeper ending) no, in that ending you usurp the fire.
The way i see it, it is probably a representation of that usurpation:
In order to go beyond that neverending cycle and it's binary conclusion you have to choose a third path.

"(Various attack sounds... she wields a large straight sword and a flaming flamberge)"

It looks like those two women are killing two snakes not cutting rope. Killing Kaathe and Frampt to end the cycle?
Tristan Milner But if the two women represent the two younger sisters of the Sable Church, that doesn't add up, since Yuria claims to be doing Kaathe's bidding by finding you.
What if they're not two women? but instead represent the two ashen ones to enter the painted world? would be usurpers of the flame that might insight that profaned black flame.

Hector Quintana gael says that u are the second ash to enter the painting after elfriede
+RedEyed XaXa interesting! I did read that it's a very old fashioned name.
Frieden=peace but the german name usually is 'Frieda' I don't think there is any relation
TheLumpy107 Yeah but Friedes full name is Elfriede so my point still stands :). Btw. Friede or Frieden doesnt matter, both translate to peace in english. I dont think it means anything significant ingame too but its still interesting.
what is the difference between Friede and Elfriede? why is she called both
Not to be pedantic, but Friede or Frieden does make a difference And the name for a person is Frieda not Friede, which is just the short version of Elfriede ^^ again, not to be pedantic but the german language is.. btw greetings from Germany :P
"Laddersmith Gilligan's wet dream"

If you listen carefully before you agro the ladder tree, when your close, you can hear it sobbing in what sounds like a female voice. Thumbs this up so vaati can see it
Sounds very similar to the sobbing of the Silver ladies from Bloodborne, as well as the tree's screams.
Vaati, I commented about the "glass murals" you mentioned in Ariandel's boss room on your "The Story of Ariandel" video. So yeah, people did notice it. :)
I personally think those are two snakes, not two cords.
7Zealot tis true.
Dark Souls 1 Covetous Serpent rings:
"The serpent is an imperfect dragon and symbol of the Undead. Its habit of devouring prey even larger than itself has led to an association with gluttony."
In all Dark Souls games the player character defeats enemies that are presumed to be more powerfull than him/her in order to progress through the game and reach the First Flame.
The snakes in the images could represent the Undead kind as a whole because all Undead have the potential to link the fire, though this doesn't mean they will or want to link it.
Pablo Oria Sánchez So maybe the figure of the one who has seized the serpent is Elfriede who controlled the fate of the painted world?
Vaasti: *looking at murals on the wall*
Friede: ?
Watching your videos always makes me want to go back on Dark Souls 3 or Bloodborne.
As to the panel you mentioned, it's not a cord that the figure on the right is reaching towards- they're actually two snakes. You can see the face of the one on the left.
My speculation- they aren't snakes at all, but rather Serpents. Primordial Serpents. The same serpents displayed on the door.
I concur, those two "cords" are definitely snakes/serpents.
im surprised he did think of them as snakes since the way they coil in the painting is very reminiscent of a snake when its is held
didn't*
What's the difference between a serpent and a snake exactly again?
sundowave In reality? Not much. Semantics, mostly. Serpent is more of a body shape, where snake is the particular real animal. But for the most part, they're used interchangeably.
In this case, the use of serpent is to bring the perceived connection with Primordial Serpents to the fore.
Loving the 'firstborn solaire" cosplay lol
9:20 imho these "cords" are stylized snakes. the figure on the right seems to be choking out the snake, while the figure on the left stabs it thru with a sword.
perhaps connected to the two entwined snakes on the door??
Paweł Sobolewski I hope those Londor wenches didn't kill Franpt
the two "cords" the women are towering over look more like serpents to me
I thought the same. Especially since, right after talking about them, he discusses the two snakes interwoven with each other.
Totally agree with you both maybe the snakes are the serpents in the first game maybe
agreed - and I would also say that it looks like the woman on the left has killed that snake (impaled on the staff/sword she's leaning on), and the one on the right has or is killing it as well (strangled/crushed).
Yxkly not crow wings though
Thats interesting.
He does have weird branch wings
Perhaps he based his wings off the wings of his fellow painting dwellers?
Also, I think that Sulyvahn left the painted world before it began to rot, given that it should take quite some time for him to go from random sorcerer who knows weird ice magic to Darth Pope of the mightiest church in the lands.
I doubt it. He isn't hunched over like the other Corvians, and his wings look more like the Deep corruption you see in the Cathedral than crow wings. Plus he doesn't howl and scream like they do.
VaatiVidya, I think the dlc might have revealed a boss for the second dlc, this is in the Millwood Greatbow's description:
"It is said that the Millwood Knights used these to face their sworn enemy, THE ABYSS DRAGON"
Since Aria mentioned the Dark Soul, it is likely the next DLC has something to do with the abyss, therefore, I think the Abyss Dragon may be a potential boss in the next dlc
Baldwin IV that would be cool
it's just a reference to kalameet. i really doubt we'll be fighting another abyss dragon
Baldwin IV I think the Abyss Dragon is Ocelotte. The follower torch describes Pus of Man as a manifestation of the abyss and they can be found in Lothric/The King's Garden.
1:30 I never thought Vatti would lie to me... your edit is super convincing btw.
Going past the crabs into the ice biome where u kill the tree is also a sorcery tome called snap freeze. snap freeze in its item description states how Sulyvan was born and raised in the painting. It describes him as a young sorcerer which he left the spell behind. idk seems like an interesting topic but im sure lots of people already know about this
Astrohol
well...
the spell is behind the tree
not a drop :p
ty, i must of picked it up as soon as i killed the tree which made it look as if it dropped it :)
"Friede" is also modern german, still meaning Peace
its a form of it but you usually say "Frieden". Btw "Friede" is a usual german name :)
Aria: "Uncle Gael, I said pigment, not pygmy"
Gael: "well, shout louder next time. My ears weren't that good"
All the enemies in Ariandel makes sense to be there....... but crabs?
Alpha Xion well, they are abominations.
Looks to be a frozen lake.
THE DARK CRAB'S INFLUENCE REACHES FAR
fucking snow crabs that live in mother fucking ice
There seems to be more to the crabs then what meets the eye. They're in water, poison swamps, fire, ice areas and skeleton balls.
Do you think Dunnel was Aria's father? And by extension Priscilla his "hideous spouse". Since you find him in her old arena, and priscilla was described rather unfavorably in DS1.
And Aria does have a certain resemblance to Priscilla
That is my theory as well. Possibly Yorshka is also Priscilla's daughter as well, but one who somehow ended up outside the painting.
Some of Aria's dialogue, mostly: "Of a cold, dark, and very gentle place. One day, it will make someone a goodly home," reminds me a bit of Priscilla's insistence that, "this land is peaceful, its inhabitents kind." But that is perhaps more of a stretch.
if that's true then I'm extremely jealous of Dunnel.
Spiny Slasher You and me both, pal.
Chesh of Shire #sadlyfe
i love how fluent you speak in this video and the music complements that, kept me watching
Anyone else notice that when the Big Wolf dies, it kinda perks back up before it fades, like it's waking up to the call of it's master? Might just be me, though.
Makes sense considering it doesn't actually die. It just moves. 2 encounters later and you find it as the second boss WITH it's master.
Eric Waters no.?? in the boss fight it's the champion that calls the wolf and not the other way around
Nah he means when you "kill" the dog OUTSIDE the boss fight, just as it disappears. It just moves on to the next encounter. It definitely perks up like he said, like the Gravetender is slowly calling it back to the boss arena.
"...a place, where we fought Priscilla", more like a place, where we were praising the tail.
your waifu -> trash
"Soon, uncle Gael will bring me the pigment. The dark soul of man..."
I think the player character with the dark sigil was what Gael was searching for. Sending the player into the painting, thus ending the rule of the rot, allowing the new painting to be made.
0:33 "At the top of Laddersmith Gilligan's wet dream"
lol
everyone is using freide's scythe on pvp now, in the arena all I see is scythe flying everywhere 0_0
ive seen more people using followers sabre
Raon24 well I mean it's a new dlc, every one wants to jump that band wagon and look "unique" even tho every other player has the same idea.
***** yeah, i've never been to an arena without someone using that weapon now. I tried using it and it's super brainless to use. It's weapon skill is infinite scythe flying everywhere and most of the time, someone will get hit by it.
Yea the weapons is really OP right now, there gonna nerf it definitely.
im gonna use it when i finally get to play ashes, i was getting bored of the pontiff knight great scythe
Man, I absolutely LOVE Ashes of Ariandel. It is by far my favorite DLC in the Souls trilogy thus far. Not the best in all From Souls games because it's hard to beat The Old Hunters.
Broken white cord looks way more like white snakes to me.
Yea considering there's a snake statue and snakes on the door I don't know how he didn't see the resemblance on the painted wall.
Because his Fans are searching for the secrets at Reddit etc and not him :) ive seen this many times, he's not very smart.
Yeah, one being stabbed and one being grabbed.
What about Ludleth?
"The eyes show a world destitute of fire, a barren plane of endless darkness. A place born of betrayal. So I will'd myself Lord, to link the fire, to paint a new vision. What is thine intent?""
Does this mean anything?
If anything it just teased for the DLC
WOW. That ladder thing is nuts! Thanks for the tip.:D
Those crabs, the scenery were very reminiscent of the frost crabs from the dark souls :1 Seath the scaleless boss fight.
Not being able to kill the little haired girl, still gives me the same vibes that she is our firekeeper or at least related.
Don't you mean giant clams?
ˣ💣ˣ she can't be our firekeeper...that makes no sense
***** the events of the outside firelink shrine were proven to take place in the past.
ex: has hinted by the hidden dialog from the shrine handmaiden.
Mordalon Reminiscent, meaning that it reminds me of.
time is convoluted. this weird shit is totally possible.
Slave Knight Gael definitely didn't expect you to kill him at the Shrine. Sounds like a another twisted alternative ending!
SIgh, this DLC brought more questions then answers. Even Vaati is having trouble! You've gotta give us more Myazaki!
Mitchell Dueck Yeah, it kinda sucks because most souls dlc leaves you with new questions but answers most old ones. This one just makes me confused.
It's giving us a few answers while preparing us for the big send off early next year.
Mitchell Dueck the fact that they don't give you the answers is the best part. They give you just enough that you can start to piece together what might be going on. That's why all of these lore channels have such different and interesting theories.
I love when things are left un-closed. Gives you something to wonder about.
Ladder Smith Gilligan's _what_ dream?
Sticky situation.
It is also worth noting that the tree from #1 also has her own unique moveset (I haven't found another tree use it, at least) and that she can be heard crying when walking up to her and fighting her, and killing her
Now the little girl, with the "dark soul of man", paints the world from Dark souls 1 in the next dlc and the Dark Souls fandom implodes.
Why did Oroboro die when he plunged from the plank?
Book Haha! I got trolled by Vaati...
He used the other side
I though the way it happened on screen was a bit fishy, like in ds1 we had a cutscene, silly vaati :)
haha did you try it? :P
No. Dont have the game, or anything capable of playing it. But i was sure that there was something wrong with Obobobo's game...
Jesus, your voice, the best story telling voice ever, and match the npc "charismy" voice as well and the Dark Souls theme, I found my self watching the Dark Souls lore not for the lore itself
"Death echos."
Heh?
I don't know why but I love listening to your voice
Those white "cords" look a lot like white snakes. The sword stabbing into the one on the left, the figure on the right choking the life out of the second. Maybe not important but it could be related to the carvings of the two snakes outside. Maybe someone in the church didn't like Kaathe and Frampt.
Such a great game unlike The Witcher 3.
What's wrong this the Witcher 3?
Never played it.
+Alvaro Barquin More content doesn't mean better game. Witcher 3 is soulless, empty,
Álvaro Barquín Okay well, like I said, I never played Witcher, so I don't know of it's quality.
14megasxlr The combat for starters is incredibly terrible. Especially when you switch from Dark Souls.
Like the shinobi arm...
cant believe i was stupid enough to jump off the edge after killing the pyromancer

"My camera mods don't really work"
Well, that would be the least of your problems now, is it?
Anyone have any thoughts on a connection between the DLC's emphasis on the word and the state of being of Forlorn and the Forlorn invaders in DS2 SotfS? Several NPCs mention it, the first coming to mind being the crow man in the kitchen.
The Forlorn armor set description reads: "Born of Aldia's obsession with the First Sin, the Forlorn lost both their corporeal form and a world to call their own. Now they drift into other worlds, ever in search of a home.
But without self, one has neither beginning nor end, and so the Forlorn have only to wander."
The line about losing a world to call their own seems to me to at least been tenuously linked to the idea of the painted worlds, and drifting into other worlds is very like what the PC in DS3 is doing in the DLC. But notably the PC is NOT forlorn and hasn't lost themselves.
Vati I know you might not see this but you have been a huge part of all the things I love and hold dear. Thank you for your dedication to the souls borne franchise
Was the plank plunge thing true for #3 cause I'm pretty sure I remember dying trying that
..maybe
Vati your a true Souls champ, if it was you writing "Try Jumping" notes on the tower id be almost totally convinced it was safe and then immediately regret my life choices.
Chanchillavanilla it is a trick he has pulled because I remember thinking "hey this is just like dark souls 1, let's try it" then landing on the floor where I started a boss fight that lasted for 1 second
RIP my souls, did it for the sake of lore, perfect display of holding on to the past of ds1
+VaatiVidya Vaati, I think the "two white cords" are snakes. It would fit with the statue
I dont think they ARE gonna finish it, honestly. There's gonna be a ton of unanswered questions
RedEyed XaXa TMW they make the DLC about the same length as AoA and leave out half of the loose ends XD
Exoskeletal Eccentric We'll just wait until Miyazaki comes and tells us the real story of the dark souls games.
13:45 I appreciate he took chance for us to sacrifice his current run to now needing to run new game +.
