I actually did that legit without knowing about it when you fight two of them. I thought I was going to die at any second as the one I just flung back was going to finish me as I fight the other. I killed the other one, turn around and just saw it there... I thought it was having a seizure.
After weeks of crab testing and naming the crab and leading it through every area I could clip it into and trying to interact with it wearing various items of clothing while also fraternizing with the non-hostile giant crab in the Smoldering Lake, I concluded... it's just there to be a cutie pie.
Remember the SBFP LP of Dark Souls 3, they point that crabs have their skeletons on the outside. It's like having eyes on the inside but cooler, because skeletons.
Yeah it's funny as hell. But could be that intentional? Could a hollow still shows personality traits? Maybe i overthink that but is a fun posibility :D
@@H9O AI just went too much time since the last time it detected the player, so it turned around and headed back to its approximate dictated zone of pathing.
I'm not sure how many people know this yet, but if you leave a player message in either of the Firelink Shrines, it will also appear in the other one, in the exact same position, with the exact same rating. I found that level of detail quite impressive.
I posted that find on one of the lore forums and we're still debating whether or not its a link to the past or not, or how Gundyr may have been imprisoned when it was his turn to link the flame. Dig hard enough into these details and you might find a gem or two to discuss.
It's pretty crazy how important Sulyvahn is to the plot and world of Dark Souls 3 when you dig deep. Just playing through the game he's a boss with no fan fare, no cut scene, or really anything. He's just there, in your way. Had he been in a different room at the time he would probably still be alive at the end of the game.
That Crab in the ball is just a Crab bein a Crab, tryin to do Crab-ass stuff, just Crabbin' it up, keepin' it Crab, bein Crab af. Know what I mean? Crab Life

Jordan Thomas She can't even see; how would she know to turn away from anything!! This needs to be investigated. Forget why lothric doesn't become a lord, WHY DOES A BLIND WOMAN TURN AWAY FROM AN ILLUSION SHE CAN'T SEE!
It's true. She turns away if you're a candle but still responds to the gestures while looking away. I was hollowed then but had no ring on (or anything like armor and weapons) just the wax to make sure it really was that ^^
I watched this video yesterday and today when i started the game she was turned away, i don't know what triggers it but i dont have any of the rings vaati mentioned neither am i hollow so i really cand explain and the only way to reset her was using the dark sign
The crabs have an innate migration path that they have taken throughout their history. Starting out in the Road of Sacrifices and moving down to the Smoldering Lake as they mature. Of course you need the 2 large crabs to stay in the Road of Sacrifices to breed and continue their species. Large crabs can also be found in the swamp of Farron Keep because the path that been blocked until the undead extinguished the flames and reopened the route down through the catacombs. One of the crabs making the migration unfortunately was caught up in the ball because of the undead 's presence. There is further evidence of this because there are only large crabs found in the Smoldering Lake due to the path being shut for some time now.
@Kvothe Windrunner The ice crabs felt out of place when they were young, migrated to the church instead, and went into the painting with the help of gael. Then the millwood knights raised them. Duh.

Something that I noticed when I started playing through Dark Souls 2 with my friends again was that in the room in Things Betwixt with the Firekeepers, we're told that there's a fourth old sister who went away. It also just so happens that they look exactly like the Shrine Handmaiden in Dark Souls 3. I just thought that was interesting.
It was already pretty clear the dark firelink was happening in the past, though. Not only is it riddled with Black knights from the age of the gods, you also fight Gundyr in his prime to gain entrance. His "tutorial version" is already obviously an aged, corrupted and rusty Gundyr. I think the fire keeper turns away from you while wearing an untrue ring because she senses you are hiding something. It might be fear, or it might simply be that you are making her uncomfortable - but she can tell you are likely shying away from your duty of relinking the fire by having access to these items, as well as you most likely having quite dark intentions by hiding your true self.
Hey Vaati, here's something I haven't heard you point out yet. The corpse that you find the Ashen Estus Flask on is wearing the Elite Knight set in reference to Oscar from Dark Souls 1 and how he gives you the Estus Flask there.
The legend of the catacombs crab never dies. The crab was once a cleric but when he lost his magic bracelets he got so crabby he became a crab. A crab so powerful that the grave wardens trapped it in the boulder. It could cast the most powerful miracle known to crabs. Way of white corona
Easy. The crab is responsible for the loss of poise, and the ball that surrounds it is the poise it has stolen from the world. When you break the ball you free the poise from the crab's possession, but unfortunately you lack the ability to take it for yourself. DLC???? DLC HINTED??? OH???
+MR. SoundWave The crabs in the DLC will act like estus shards and undead bone shards, but only once they are defeated does your character gain a ring that grants normalization of the poise stat to your character.
The crab was born of a ball of human skeletons, we are underground perhaps a sewers to the above world. DLC = Crab people. Look like crab, talk like people, crab people.
+Husl Wusl Yes, and if you get grabbed there will be a 10% chance to gain a crab head. This crab head will leech a portion of your souls, and grow into a fearsome being after consuming enough of them. It will then attack enemies when you try to kick.
I don't know if anyone ever mentioned this (since 4 months), but you can have the Firekeeper turn away from you (#5 on this list) when you have your head dunked in the wax from the Grand Archives. Just dunk your head, and then go back to Firelink Shrine, and the firekeeper will turn her head away just like the rings do.
i head somewhere (maybe in another Vaati video) that this was because the scholars were the ones who helped convince lothric not to link the fire, so it makes sense that the fire keeper wouldn't be to pleased with them as she obviously wants the fire to be linked.
Havel and Ricard are both summoned to defend the bell in DS3 Havel and Ricard are both together in the abyss in DS2 Havel's gear is found with an occult club in DS1. People use this to implicate Havel in a conspiracy against the Gods. Ricard is found with a rare ring of sacrifice (a Velka item, like the occult club) and a divine blessing.
"the usurpation ending is the best" **sees how Anri reacts to Horace being killed** "the usurpation ending is evil and if you choose it you belong in hell"
Here's another one. In Irithyll there are phantoms of Outrider Knights wandering around from time. But just beyond the church of Yorshka you'll see two Outrider Knights, one dressed in the usual armor and another resembling the Dancer. I believe that they are Vordt and the Dancer long before their eventual fall into beasthood.
I know that i'm late, but just wanted to say that, about every unkindled being linked to a Lord of Cinder. Siegward to Yhorm, Anri to Aldrich and Hawkwood to The Abyss Watchers. So, they all have like, deeper relationships, Hawkwood was an Abyss Watcher, Siegward and Yhorm were good enough friends for Yhorm to give Suegward a sword that could kill Jim, and Anri had set out on a mission to defeat Aldrich for the hidden of her villiage. And, because of this, I believe that there may have been a deeper connection between the Twin Princes and the Unkindled. Anyways, here goes... So, in the game, there are there main 'pillars' that people set their beliefs in. The Priestess - Whose role is filled by Emma, The Sorcerer - Who are the people with candle heads in the Grand Archives. And the knight - outsider knight's mabye (If not, then a LOT of other people fill this role). However, there's also a secret 4th pillar, named The Thief (Sorry, I haven't plays in a while, so thag name may be a bit off, but you get the jist.), whose roles is filled by - we'll get to that in a minute. So, near the beginning of the game, we meet an NPC named 'Black Hand Gotthard', as a phantom outside Farron Keep. From the thief ring's description, we KNOW that the black hands were held so secretively and were so powerful, that there were only ever 3 - Gotthard being one. As far as I know, the only other fight Gotthard appears outside of is the Pontiff's. Next, we come to the second black hand member (I'm really sorry, but I can't remember his name, if anyone knows the guy who I'm talking about, could you tell me please?). He appears outside the Grand Archives and before the Twin Prince's boss fight. He attacks us instantly (I'll explain this in a second), and may seem unfamiliar to you, HOWEVER, he CAN be summoned for the Vordt boss fight (And only that one) So, that's 2 of the 3 Black Hand members, and that's all we know about them. Well, I propose a theory. We know that the King's Black Hands live to protect Lothric, and help us throughout the game. However, once we kill Emma or she dies naturally, the second black hand becomes hostile. This is because all Emma and the Dancer are guarding are the Princes, and so, seeing hostility towards them, the second black hand becomes aggressive. The next time we see a black hand is outside the main door to the Grand Archives. This is the body of Gotthard, holding the key for the Archives. He came here to help us, knowing that the flame needed to be linked, and was ambushed by the other hand, who killed him. He waits us above the grand archives, along with 2 other NPC's. He attacks us here, and is killed. So, I believe that.... The relation between the player and the princes is that the player WAS the 3rd black hand member, and was human, but he died and lost his memory and status, becoming unkindled. That's why Lothric realises who we are during the boss fight. Anyways, thats my theory, give your thoughts down below!
Thetia the awesome thing is, is that you are pretty much spot on with this. Its not explicitly stated but yes it is inferred that you play as the third Black Hand set out to link the fire. And yes the black hands were the protectors of lothric and you going around killing all the lords is why the 2nd one is hostile towards you.
I’ve also thought that the sellsword twin blades cemented this in better. They are a unique set of PAIRED swords, and all of the other black hands use paired weapons.

it is weird to me that Pontiff would be a mid game boss fight when hes such a huge player in this world and how it currently stands. he and aldrich are both such big influences on the world and so far, pre-dlc, they dont seem to have gotten proper attention imo.
compared to Frampt and Kaathe in DS1 or even in this game. as well as Gwendolyn and Gwynevere in DS1. i feel like they all got way more attention than Pontiff and Aldrich have.
I agree, for a person that manipulated half the world and left his stamp on most of the lore you'd expect at least some lead up to him rather than just being a minor boss.
That's what I like about him, he is a mid-boss for Aldrich, without any cutscene or dialogue, he looks forgettable, and after you have beaten him, you realise slowly how important he was, while Artorias as an entire DLC about how he was only able to kill 1 bloathead. I think that in Dark Souls, the most importants characters are usually hidden, while they shove less important characters in your face. Anor Londo is a good exemple : the guy who manipulate you during the entire damn level is hidden behind an invisible wall and you never hear about him, while they show you a gigantic Gwynevere with dialogues, even though she actually doesn't do anything.
I always felt Dark Souls 3 is a bit unfinished in comparison to DS1 and 2. Like most of the lore just isn't there, or it is but only in a readable form and it doesn't translate so smoothly into the world and game itself.
Little to do with the video, but it has been knocking around me head for a while so: The world we explore in Dark Souls 3 isn't actually the real world, but a pocket dimension created by the dying FIre in a last ditch effort to prevent the coming of the Dark. I think that what we see is the Fire creating a last bubble of reality where space and time kinda work, but are not perfect and then resurrected some of the people who previously Kindled it, in hope of reseting the cycle. Mind when I say the Fire, what I mean is the Soul of Cinder, a consciousness born of all the people sacrificed to the fire and existing solely to prolong the cycle. Thats why the geography and timeliness don't make any sense. Thats why the Firelink Shrine is nothing but a illusion, a fake masking the Kiln of the First Flame. Giving the Firekeeper her eyes allows her to see through the illusion and see the truth about the world. I think that the Soul of Cinder couldn't bring back the Lords of Cinder without also drawing their seats of power to converge around it. I think that this is what the pilgrims are, people fleeing the rest of the world, as it slowly unravel making their way toward Lothric, the land that is least ravaged by the unraveling. As he summoned each Lord the Soul of Cinder also summoned the corresponding Unkindled.
In Farron Keeps swamp at the 3 Ritual fires that Must be extinguished to continue to the next area, Above The Bowl at every shrine there is a picture referencing the Lords from Dark-souls one, One with 4 Men (The 4 Kings) One with a Man being Prayed to by Skeletons (Gravelord Nito) And a Tree (The Bed Of Chaos)
@@ThatSwiggityGuy Even though Seath was the main reason that the dragons fell, he was still deeply detested by most because of his usage of crystal sorceries, which made the sage brothers of the undead leagion go insane (iirc), thus weakening the legion. (I think) Tbh there is a design of the Seath shrine for em but it was never implemented, idk why but maybe because of what I just mentioned.
@@panzerfich It always bothered me that there were only 3, because the way the ones are placed near the door, it's not done in a visually appealing and symmetrical way. Yet another reason why that whole area sucks ass.
I was skeptical lately, but your latest videos are just the greates you have ever done. You outdid yourself, congratulations. Also, so good to see you work close with the community and always give proper credit to it. Keep at it!
Thanks! The four before this are really comprehensive forsure. There'll be one more video like this one, some news (so i can get ahead of schedule), and then prepare to cry!
Can we talk about why the Nameless King chose to take residence in a place only a few miles away from the place he was banished from? "I have a perfect idea for where I'll establish my dragon sanctuary. I'll go to that mountain over there, right down the road from the capital OF FUCKING LEGENDARY DRAGONSLAYERS! Yes, that will be a perfect spot."
Just to give you a gist of how long the Nameless King too residence there, you can find Ornstein's weapon and armor there. We're talking around Dark Souls 1 time period.
Note that Yorshka states Pontiff was a self proclaimed title this might go against your lore vids but I believe it could be parallel to Father Gascoigne in that Pontiff might not be an official rank of the cathedral of the deep
Nothing even connects Sulyvahn to the Cathedral of the Deep except for Aldrich, so I would say that you are right about Pontiff not being a Cathedral rank. He was a sorcerer poking around the Profaned Capital where he found the Profaned Flame, then took over Irithyll, locking up Gwyndolin (whom he eventually fed to Aldrich) and Yorshka. Heck, it's entirely possible that the two of them didn't even meet until Aldrich came to Irithyll (with Archdeacon McDonnell in tow) and made an alliance there.
When you think about it, hexes aka DARK magic, draw on the power of INT and FTH. Considering you have to be strong in both stats, it shows you that you are strong as an undead/unkindled (human) who has taken in countless souls to become strong in all forms of magic. My point is that since you are a powerful "human", and Dark stems from Humanity, then it's not wrong to say hexes and Dark miracles are the true soul magic, as it comes from the Darkness of humanity and their soula. Ironic that Sorceries are called soul magic when "Dark magic" is truly from your soul.
Do you remember 3 NPCs that you fight while coming for Lothric? The knight, the hunter and the mage girl? Well here's the thing: you can meet all of them in the game except for the hunter. The axe-knight can be summoned for Vordt fight. His name is Lion Knight Albert or something like that. You can't summon him though if you'll murder the old lady and trigger the Dancer. The girl invades you in dark firelink shrine, in the place where the very 1st bonfire you encounter should be. But you never meet the hunter... You meet his companion - Gothard, with his legendary dual swords. But this one is different, this one uses dual katanas that he made himself and he's the only who you never meet anywhere else. I also love how they represent the 4 pillars: knights, hunters and scholars. But not priests... Who Lothric kingdom hated ever after the angel accident. Also: Sirris and that mage guy... always forget his name. They are both can be summoned for Lothric bossfight, so it's not ours respective lord of cinder, but theirs. Also i could never understand why Sirris looks like such a good person, yet she's the one from "sunless realms" where linking of the fire is not welcome. Maybe translation mistake or am i just this stupid? Still love her though.
Man, I love Pontiff Sullyvahn. He's such a scumbag, even by Souls standards. Take the Dancer, for example. First she was his personal dancer, and then an outrider knight -- strange combination of jobs, right? But she's never far from Vordt. Seems like what happened is that, while she was Sullyvahn's personal entertainment, she might have fallen in love and had dalliances with someone beneath the Pontiff. So what did the Pontiff do when he discovered her infidelity? Why, he made the both of them Outrider Knights -- a fate worse than death, dooming both of them to become mindless beasts. He probably 'married' the two of them, using the Outrider Knight rings as their wedding bands. That's my interpretation, at least.
Pontiff: Heeeya, Dancer! So, i was thinking that maybe we could- Dancer: Oh, i'm sorry. Wasn't paying attention. I'm just so excited! Vordt finally proposed to me after our third date anniversary! Isn't that amazing?! Pontiff: ...yeeeeaaaah..."amaaaazing"...say, why not let me be the priest? I have the "perfect" pair of rings for you two.
Crab was in the ball because they needed an entity to track the balls behavior/hitbox and the crab was small enough to be covered by the balls model? Possibly?
Wasn't there some kind of animal/mutant that powered the 'windmill elevators' (I don't know what they are really called) in Blighttown in Dark Souls 1?
Needlessly convoluted since there hasn't been any reports of that being done in the series before, plus there's no crab in the first skeleton ball so it's moot anyway.
Just a minor correction; Anri's dialogue when you kill Horace in her vicinity is not exclusive to the Road of Sacrifices. It can be replicated the same way in Firelink Shrine, for example, where they both show up after defeating the Deacons.
Wait a second ... now that I think about it, if Pontiff Sulyvahn had to do with the majority of the game and why everything's corrupted / horrible, is he also behind experimenting on the Heavenly Daughter? When you get Pontiff Sulyvahn down to half health, he sprouts *black wings* as if he was growing angelic like wings. Perhaps he was trying to become an angel like the Heavenly Daughter and semi succeeded in doing so??
Speaking of secret number 5, I just fired up the game recently and I think I found something that I haven't seen anyone mention yet so I will throw it out there (apologies if it's already been discovered). When I went to fight the Deacons of the Deep and I summoned Anri and Horace, I was decked out in full dark wraith gear from head to toe including dark hand and dark sword. When they both saw me they wouldn't face me. Not just turned posture like the firekeeper but actively moved to not face me. They still fought with me but I thought that was a neat little touch. Let me know if it's already old news but as I said, I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere.
Hey Vaati. I discovered that when I use The Dragonslayer Swordspear WA on the grass after Pontiff Sulyvhan boss fight, ( Where the fight club is), the grass grows.
The revelation of Sulyvahn as the first Scholar of Lothric then gives us a clearer timeline of the progression of the Lords of Cinder, and the order in which they linked the flame. Ultimately it seems as if the timeline looks something like this. Yhorm Calls Down the Profane Flame -> Sulyvahn is First Scholar of Lothric -> Lothric and Lorian Link the Fire -> Sulyvahn Finds the Profane Flame -> Sulyvahn Takes Over Irithyll -> Irithyll is corrupted by the Deep and concurrently the Abyss This implies that, should the Abyss Watchers still exist, that Irithyll is then purged by them, and then they are the most recent lords of cinder. Additionally Aldritch's softening into sludge and his being burnt as a Lord of Cinder then likely occur around Sulyvahn's discovery. This likely makes the timeline of incineration. Yhorm -> Lothric/Lorian -> Aldritch -> Abyss Watchers.
Also: Dude who said "Wrong" but was marked as spam, I'm willing to hear why I'm wrong and am ready for it but I'm afraid you're gonna have to bring slightly more to the table.
I thought the premise of the game was that Lothric was supposed to link the fire as it's fading this time but didn't, causing the previous lords to revive to perform the duty again which they (for some reason or other) turned down as well and left for their homes to fulfill their own goals: Abyss Watchers fighting the Abyss (themselves, since fighting the Abyss extensively corrupts you and it may have started to show) Aldrich devouring gods to make the World into a Deep-sea thing of Dreams (or something?) And Yhorm to... what? Wallow in self-pity?
So... ON the part of siegward connecting to Yhorm, anri to aldrich, and hawkwood to the legion... In front of the grand archives there lies a body. Which I presume is Black hand Gotthard. Which was one of the three selected black hands. Wasn't he connected to the Prince, but failed to uphold his task?
Bart Goorden My theory is that your character used to be a Black Hand, but got "kicked out" of the Order. It actually makes sense: The Black Hands serve the Lothric Bloodline. Lothric and Lorian betrayed everyone when declaring that they'd not become Lords of Cinder. You, being a servant of theirs and also a devote to the flame, thought of that as an absurd and challenged the Princes. This, of course was seen as an action of betrayal, and then you got kicked out because of it. While that, the other two Black Hands took their own actions: Gottard, being a close friend to you, didn't take sides. As for the other one (which I forgot the name), being extremely loyal to the Princes and the Bloodline, took their side and occasionally murdered Gottard for helping you afterwards and tried to murder you.
@@viniciuspimenta5399 Well, the player character is unkindled, so maybe their act of betrayal to lothric was trying to light the first flame. Two birds, one stone
The graphics in DS1 are good enough that it doesn't really need a remake, but I would definitely appreciate having the quality-of-life stuff that's come in the last three games in DS1. Like using multiple items at once. Or letting you multiplayer with your friends without mods.
That's just nostalgia. There is a world of difference in all the assets and animations between DS1 and DS3. The game is still beautiful, but to discount all the progress From has made these last few years is a dis-justice.
+Tom Goldberg oh absolutely. It's just that the graphics of 1 are good enough that bumping them up to the amazing fidelity and detail of the latest From games isn't on its own enough of a reason to remake/remaster DS1. It would be pretty far down on the list of reasons to do so.
Canonically, the PC never killed Gwyndolin, so I guess he's just been chilling there for the past few eons maintaining the illusion. In DS1 the illusion of Gwynevere/light Anor Londo doesn't disappear even after you've killed him, which would explain why the light's still on even though Gwyndolin was devoured by Aldritch.
If you look up at certain points you can see the night sky beaming through. It's possible they are going after the notion that you did not uncover the secret in ds1 and kill Gwendolyn, or the possibility that after Aldrich devoured him , Aldrich used his power to bring back the illusion. He has so many qualities of the god after devouring him it makes me wonder if part of him wanted the illusion to remain.
I think that it's night time in Anor Londo, the moon is just crazy bright. If you look at the sky, you can see stars, and the "sun" appears to be waning, implying that it's actually the moon.
That crab has become the pendant of this game. There are people who lead that thing into the demon ruins and they got nothing. They lead it to the crabs in the smouldering lake, nothing. I've even tried leading it to places. I got nothing as well. But who knows? Maybe there is some use for it out there. I've run out of ideas though.
I mean there WAS that thing in Dark Souls 2 where if you lead a pig halfway across the map you got a weapon for it. It was a shitty weapon that didn't mean anything to anything, but it was a thing. So there is precedent for leading weak monsters places.
+sid trilok the pig was a large enemy that didn't respawn? Because no, it was a relatively small enemy (or a piglet which were VERY small) and it did respawn.
darksouls2.wikidot.com/giant-undead-boar sorry I was thinking of these in NG+, then it was probably the smaller ones. I never tried it myself just heard from a friend Android 19
I'm really surprised you didn't think of Sirris in regards to the Lords and their Unkindled for Lothric. She's the only npc you can summon for that fight and it's the last part of her quest. It doesn't make sense for our character to be the Unkindled that is linked to Lothric, since we go on to fight the Soul of Cinder afterwards while the other Unkindled find the end of their journey at their respective Lord of Cinder.
He doesn't want to put one. Edwad loved him but he kept pushing him away. That's why he doesn't want to make a Edwad lore :( Do you really have to hide the feelings you have for Edwad. Why, its ok. We don't judge :)
I'm sure that this is known, or maybe a comment has been left about it... but I left a message in fire link shrine, and it also showed up in dark fire link shrine. It has been said, I believe in dark souls 2, that messages and summons are through time and worlds. I don't have the mind to make anything out of this but... I believe that dark fire shrine is in the past, and the unkindled one sheathed the coiled sword in champion Gundyr, as it states that he was 'bested by an unknown champion'. Just a thought!!
I believe that particular tidbit was said in DS1, actually - about messages and summons being through time and connecting worlds. Though that thought is definitely has merit.
Now that is tasty. I love me some causality. Ludleth seems to know more about the other shrine and even enforce that is it, indeed, in the past. This is what he says after you collect the Eyes of The Firekeeper and speak to him. "Tis as if it were but yesterday. We did all we could to spare her from them. Much has happened since."
In fact, this piece of dialogue suggests Ludleth was the one who bested Gundyr and linked the flame at that time. Also, the fact that you find the Eyes where Irina used to hang seems pretty suggestive. Now, I don't know about the stigma of being a firekeeper in the souls universe (if it is something praised, hated or ignored) but Irina's ashes state that she became a saint and then a great betrayal occured, and as she is blind and apparently being consumed by darkness (the little creatures), I don't believe it's a far-fetched idea that Irina somehow used the eyes, saw the horror that the Firekeeper mentions and had them removed somehow, but not forgetting the visions.
Seems unusual that the eyes are some kind of tool that aren't meant to be used. What would be the point of them? I always thought of them as her own eyes. Maybe Irina attempted to end the rekindling or foresaw it (The betrayal) and Ludleth removed her eyes "We did all we could to spare her from them", and that was the reason why Firekeepers were required to be blind from then on.
so Pontiff Sulyvahn is basically Griffith/Femto from Berserk. since both of them fucked up their respective worlds in numerous and somewhat similar ways.
tashfeen shafee I think that's because Griffith's a traitor, a betrayer. It feels a lot more personal( fuck, he raped his best friend's girlfriend rright in front of him).As much of an ass Sullyvanh is, he does it to no one in particular, he does it to become stonger
I hope we go after Allfather Lloyd in one, and Velka in the next Two most missing yet, from a lore point of view, most relevant characters One possibly responsible for creating the Undead curse (according to Hawkshaw), the other punishing all for their sins.
The statue of Sulivan is also not trying to behead himself like all the other statues you see. He is questioning the destiny of the bloodline as he looks at his sword instead of taking position. He is even in the same kneeling position implying he was about to also do it but decided against it. So a statue was erected in his defiance and bravery against the kingdom.
I think it would make sense that they made pontiff to be this important character who made most of the events in the game happen because he was originally the final boss of the game
You know what I want for the DLC? A reincarnation of the Sunbro. It's already been done with Siegmeyer in the form of Siegward. And we find several of Solaire's trinkets lying around next to estus soup in various locations, which implies that someone was there.
Felix Winterbuttom Hmm, you might be right about that actually. However, the sunlight talisman you get next to one of the soups is described as "The Knight of Sunlight's personal talisman". When you hear "Knight of Sunlight" Solaire immediately comes to mind.
something unexpected happened on my second dark souls 3 playthrough. I got to road of sacrifices and anri of astora was a male instead so i think maybe it has to do with the gender i chose for my character. I have nothing against this it was just unexpected since i thought there was only a female version of anri
Johncat Anri is always the oposite gender of your character. And no Anri questline is not to help her and kill Horace, you're missing a big thing about her/him ;)
Please make many more videos. I've watched a few and want to know why so little in this time? I think you do a great job and if you made more videos it would be a great honor to watch them. :)
+VaatiVidya I have seen the past few videos you've made, and I think they're amazing cinematically, narratively and rich with amazing lore. I just have troubles finding people who still make DS3 videos, and not only on PvP. I'm just having a difficult time finding people that make "all things DS3" videos. Great stuff! Keep it up!
Wow, the Pontiff beast thing is actually kinda sad. To think they still have a shred of humanity, where it appears they plead with you to give them mercy, jeez Louise that's some tough stuff.
I agree, bloodborne is an awesome way to start your way into the souls series, it's a perfect game, and if you like it, play ds2 and 3, ds1 is kinda hard to play nowadays for new comers
It’s weird how I just fought Pontiff yesterday. Saw a lonely summon sign as I passed to open the shortcut… about 10 minutes later I came back to fight Pontiff and he was still there . Always happy to keep this game alive!
Why would the firekeeper turn away from you in disgust as if to not bear to look at you, even though she is blind? why would a blind woman turn from you in disgust if she cant see? are you really THAT detestable?
You know, Sirris' reference to her grandmother reminded me of what that undead conglomerate said about a grandmother (or "nana" as he put it) disappearing, and then referencing a grandson who carries a cage that he throws down into the pit. I know there isn't really any connection, since he said the nana disappears, likely into the pit, but Sirris is clearly giving her grandmother a farewell, and going into the pit, and it wouldn't make sense for her to say goodbye to someone if she was going to where they were. But I still thought it was interesting that there have been multiple references to grandparents and grandchildren in regards to the pit of hollows. I'm probably reading way too much into it, but still, I thought it worth sharing.
Oh yeah, Mr. Krabs... AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
my friend told me this and it makes sense in the story of dark souls. He said that the nameless King real name could be Sen because of Sen's Fortress in Dark Souls 1, and Richard is there (probably the nameless kings son) and it is fall of snake men like in dragon peak and it just makes complete sense.
Coming back to this video after the Elden Ring trailer, with the giant tree shown prominently, you could convince me that the translation for #7 was an absurdly buried hint.
The whole area is based off Anatolia and basically turkey. The place below the nameless king fight is basically hagia Sophia or any other Byzantine-Turk place of worship. And turkey once upon a Time did use Arabic so, first of all, fucking amazing detail, second it also means that although script is Arabic, meanings must be derived from Turkish respect and then appropriated for ds3.
I intended to put it out a few hours early, but could only last about an hour until I went public because it's late here and i gotta head to bed. Longer next time maybe! Thanks for following me over there.

I actually did that legit without knowing about it when you fight two of them. I thought I was going to die at any second as the one I just flung back was going to finish me as I fight the other. I killed the other one, turn around and just saw it there... I thought it was having a seizure.
Crazy? I was crazy once.

Only the face of the true chosen one, Edwad Emberpants, has the ability to fully control the crabs with the guidance of his warriors of sunlight.
OR, he's the pet of the skeleton in the pointy hat.

I did not know that, thank you for informing me! Quite interesting.

Easy. The crab is responsible for the loss of poise, and the ball that surrounds it is the poise it has stolen from the world. When you break the ball you free the poise from the crab's possession, but unfortunately you lack the ability to take it for yourself.

I think he already said that in one of his previous videos.
He said that in his main bosses lore video, I believe, sorry to say.
Yeh... Already discovered, sorry bro 😕
Really? Damn I'm late then.
Nah, it's just vatai is just amazing
Ripped straight from Game Theory

+Apexx27 feel like they were just getting him out of the way for some callback. Maybe just fan service? Idk.
Little to do with the video, but it has been knocking around me head for a while so:
The world we explore in Dark Souls 3 isn't actually the real world, but a pocket dimension created by the dying FIre in a last ditch effort to prevent the coming of the Dark.
Hoooooooly shit dood
In Farron Keeps swamp at the 3 Ritual fires that Must be extinguished to continue to the next area, Above The Bowl at every shrine there is a picture referencing the Lords from Dark-souls one, One with 4 Men (The 4 Kings) One with a Man being Prayed to by Skeletons (Gravelord Nito) And a Tree (The Bed Of Chaos)
But no mention of Seath huh? Thats kinda rude, Abyss Watchers
@@ThatSwiggityGuy Even though Seath was the main reason that the dragons fell, he was still deeply detested by most because of his usage of crystal sorceries, which made the sage brothers of the undead leagion go insane (iirc), thus weakening the legion. Wingardium leviooooooosa
Ironic that Sorceries are called soul magic when "Dark magic" is truly from your soul.
.
Therefore.. dark souls
Climax literally uses your souls to deal dmg
At this point Sirris had pledged herself to the Ashen One, so not really her boss, she's just helping, just as we helped Siegward with Yhorm
Isn't the sunless realm Irithyll/dark Anor Londo?
I actually thought Lion Knight Albert was a real person. He acted exactly like one
Actually the priestess was represented. By Lady Emily, who was the priestess.
T-L-G-T-W Oh right. The one that tells you to remind Lothric to be a lord?
I like that theory that would make sullyvhan the biggest douchebag to ever exist in a souls game NEW HEADCANON ACCEPTED
And I think he killed Arch Deacon McDonnell to get closer to Aldrich.
Well, mostly killed I suppose.
Pontiff: Heeeya, Dancer! So, i was thinking that maybe we could-
Dancer: Oh, i'm sorry.
Very interesting thoughts.

Sulyvahn being the first scholar also links the weird Dragon/Human Baby hybrids in the Dungeons with King Oceiros's Experiments with Dragons
bobo fet fucking sucks
stoneshatter12 :(
Holy shit...
Well, that makes a lot of sense. Vaati could probably use it.
A Place to lock away failures perhaps.
Dogs show their belly as a sign of deepest trust and as sign of giving up. The beasts are begging for mercy.
9:00 lol that guy in the background xD
*prepare to cry teased, maybe the series still lives*
I think we'll wait until the dlc is released
Hopefully he'll get back around to the DSIII Lorethrough at some point, too. Those 5 vids he's already made of it are fantastic...
Once you finish Anri's questline, its sad to see a hollowed Anri just standing at a bunch of graves
Horace :(
I still want my Gerhman prepare to cry for bloodborne.
Crab was in the ball because they needed an entity to track the balls behavior/hitbox and the crab was small enough to be covered by the balls model? Possibly?
But there isn't a crab in the first skeleton ball
Wasn't there some kind of animal/mutant that powered the 'windmill elevators' (I don't know what they are really called) in Blighttown in Dark Souls 1?
Those were flame dogs, I think. I don't know the exact name, but I do remember them being red and having a nasty tendency to breath fire at you.
That was one of the fire breathing dogs iirc
Needlessly convoluted since there hasn't been any reports of that being done in the series before, plus there's no crab in the first skeleton ball so it's moot anyway.
Just a minor correction; Anri's dialogue when you kill Horace in her vicinity is not exclusive to the Road of Sacrifices. It can be replicated the same way in Firelink Shrine, for example, where they both show up after defeating the Deacons.
mark my words fellow undead.....that crab in the bone ball, it will hold the item to enter the dlc....
Why is the crab in that bone ball anyway? There is no reason for it.
Its there to hold DLC items.
I'll remember it for later.
Crown of the Sunken Crab
+Noice Idk if I could handle the Age of Crabs lol
Wait a second ... now that I think about it, if Pontiff Sulyvahn had to do with the majority of the game and why everything's corrupted / horrible, is he also behind experimenting on the Heavenly Daughter? When you get Pontiff Sulyvahn down to half health, he sprouts *black wings* as if he was growing angelic like wings. Perhaps he was trying to become an angel like the Heavenly Daughter and semi succeeded in doing so??
I think at this point, its safe to assume Sulvayhn was behind everything in Dark Souls 3. Also, I approve of your profile pic.
VERY GOOD..... I'M SOOORRY
But wasn't Lothric already born frail?
I believe the twin princes experimented on the heavenly daughter. Theres a vid on that.
NPCs randomly do that. So far as I've seen, there's no consistent trigger for it.
Damn I literally did the exact same thing 2 days ago and had that happen!
Hey Vaati. I discovered that when I use The Dragonslayer Swordspear WA on the grass after Pontiff Sulyvhan boss fight, ( Where the fight club is), the grass grows.
Mugzie, please enlighten me.
The revelation of Sulyvahn as the first Scholar of Lothric then gives us a clearer timeline of the progression of the Lords of Cinder, and the order in which they linked the flame. Ultimately it seems as if the timeline looks something like this.
Yhorm Calls Down the Profane Flame -> Sulyvahn is First Scholar of Lothric -> Lothric and Lorian Link the Fire -> Sulyvahn Finds the Profane Flame -> Sulyvahn Takes Over Irithyll -> Irithyll is corrupted by the Deep and concurrently the Abyss
This implies that, should the Abyss Watchers still exist, that Irithyll is then purged by them, and then they are the most recent lords of cinder.
Additionally Aldritch's softening into sludge and his being burnt as a Lord of Cinder then likely occur around Sulyvahn's discovery.
This likely makes the timeline of incineration.
Yhorm -> Lothric/Lorian -> Aldritch -> Abyss Watchers.
DAAAM, THAT SHIT GOOD.
Thank you, if you are talking about this, but if you're just talking about shit in general, then agreed!
Also: Dude who said "Wrong" but was marked as spam, I'm willing to hear why I'm wrong and am ready for it but I'm afraid you're gonna have to bring slightly more to the table.
Lothrick didn't link the fire...
I thought the premise of the game was that Lothric was supposed to link the fire as it's fading this time but didn't, causing the previous lords to revive to perform the duty again which they (for some reason or other) turned down as well and left for their homes to fulfill their own goals:
Abyss Watchers fighting the Abyss (themselves, since fighting the Abyss extensively corrupts you and it may have started to show)
Aldrich devouring gods to make the World into a Deep-sea thing of Dreams (or something?)
And Yhorm to...
That may be why you're connected to them. It's a very plausible possibility, at least.
@@viniciuspimenta5399 Well, the player character is unkindled, so maybe their act of betrayal to lothric was trying to light the first flame. Two birds, one stone
@@bigoistin9125 That's actually pretty plausible!
@@viniciuspimenta5399 That's MatPat's theory (that or he also claimed someone else's as his own) but do carry on explaining regardless.
Unrelated to the video itself, but I want a DS1 remake, with upgraded mechanics and multiplayer crossover with DS3 in certain areas, like Anor Londo.
The graphics in DS1 are good enough that it doesn't really need a remake, but I would definitely appreciate having the quality-of-life stuff that's come in the last three games in DS1. Like using multiple items at once. Or letting you multiplayer with your friends without mods.
well it's not the graphics but the cloth physics that would be awesome to have in DS1...
That's just nostalgia. There is a world of difference in all the assets and animations between DS1 and DS3. The game is still beautiful, but to discount all the progress From has made these last few years is a dis-justice.
+Android 19 It's still a fine looking game by all standards, but it's clearly out-classed visually by BB & III in a significant manner.
+Tom Goldberg oh absolutely. It's just that the graphics of 1 are good enough that bumping them up to the amazing fidelity and detail of the latest From games isn't on its own enough of a reason to remake/remaster DS1. It would be pretty far down on the list of reasons to do so.
I have a question.
Who turned the light back on in Anor londo?
Nosferatu.

You died to that crab? XD
You got the pickaxe, and that was actually quite a large enemy that didn't respawn
+sid trilok the pig was a large enemy that didn't respawn? Because no, it was a relatively small enemy (or a piglet which were VERY small) and it did respawn.

sorry I was thinking of these in NG+, then it was probably the smaller ones. I never tried it myself just heard from a friend Android 19
11:45 the SuperBestFriends joked that crabs are accepted on the skeleton club because they have skeletons on the outside
That one little crab in the Catacombs of Carthus is perhaps the biggest mystery in the entire Dark Souls mythos. 🤣
I've always wondered about that crab too XD
Maybe it works like a hamster in a ball :o
That crab lost its mother such a sad story

I'm really surprised you didn't think of Sirris in regards to the Lords and their Unkindled for Lothric. She's the only npc you can summon for that fight and it's the last part of her quest. It doesn't make sense for our character to be the Unkindled that is linked to Lothric, since we go on to fight the Soul of Cinder afterwards while the other Unkindled find the end of their journey at their respective Lord of Cinder.
That she is also the person that you get the darkmoon gesture from gives it a bit of color.
Sirris and Orbeck can both be summoned for the Twin Princes fight. They both die as a result.
***** I've never seen Orbeck's sign there. Even after I gave him all the scrolls and bought all the spells.
You can also summon Orbeck for the twin princes fight. He will also leave the shrine and die afterwards too.
Orbeck is not unkindled, he is an undead as does Sirris, they were alive before the summoning of the unkindled
Give us an Edwad lore video!!
agree😂😂
He doesn't want to put one. Edwad loved him but he kept pushing him away. That's why he doesn't want to make a Edwad lore :( Do you really have to hide the feelings you have for Edwad. Why, its ok. We don't judge :)
He can't. Edwad killed the lore in the finale.
Chapter one: There's no lore.
End
You mean burnt hands.
Sullyvahn didn't rape anyone though, and he didn't betray them. He's just an asshole, not a Griffith.
+AVicious Hunter that's true...
you can't compare any villain to Griffith when it comes to doing the most evil shit
He made one of the maidens with a direct lineage to Gwynevere his "dancer", so rape isn't quite out.
tashfeen shafee
I think that's because Griffith's a traitor, a betrayer. It feels a lot more personal( fuck, he raped his best friend's girlfriend rright in front of him).As much of an ass Sullyvanh is, he does it to no one in particular, he does it to become stonger
LOL Icon Dancer in the way that she fights. i think
I hope
The crab is rolling the ball like a giant hamster ball.
Has anyone realized that the monsters in Anor Londa and in the chathedral of the deep have the messengers from blood borne on their back?

Which Monsters?
Deacons?

DLC Hype! I really hope it's got to do with the Abyss or Londor :d
The earliest comment make it top comment guys
Would love something with Londor. (Although I should really try to finally get, at least, one ending)
I hope we go after Allfather Lloyd in one, and Velka in the next
Two most missing yet, from a lore point of view, most relevant characters
One possibly responsible for creating the Undead curse (according to Hawkshaw), the other punishing all for their sins.
+Taha Imran would be nice to tie up those loose ends...
personally, I'm hoping we get to fight morne in one of the dlc's
Hoping for more lore about Gertrude and ocellote

The statue of Sulivan is also not trying to behead himself like all the other statues you see.
He is questioning the destiny of the bloodline as he looks at his sword instead of taking position. He is even in the same kneeling position implying he was about to also do it but decided against it. So a statue was erected in his defiance and bravery against the kingdom.
Siegward - Yohrm
Anri - Aldrich
Hawkwood - Abyss Watchers
you - Lothric
Fire keeper - Ludleth (?)
Firekeeper isn't an unkindeled
really? well the ? wasn't right
he does mention to care for the firekeeper
Ludleth's unkindled wouldn't have been called as he didn't refuse to link the flame so there was no need to go get his ashes
oh that's right
I think it would make sense that they made pontiff to be this important character who made most of the events in the game happen because he was originally the final boss of the game
Imagine the writers from FromSoftware spending 3 years to make a prewritten D&D campaign and we get Vaati to DM it
Watch how the DLC ends up being about Cornyx.
nah it's andre.
You know what I want for the DLC? A reincarnation of the Sunbro. It's already been done with Siegmeyer in the form of Siegward. And we find several of Solaire's trinkets lying around next to estus soup in various locations, which implies that someone was there.
I always thought the estus soups were made by Siegward, isn't he a warrior of sunglight too?
Felix Winterbuttom
Hmm, you might be right about that actually.
However, the sunlight talisman you get next to one of the soups is described as "The Knight of Sunlight's personal talisman". When you hear "Knight of Sunlight" Solaire immediately comes to mind.
Siegward has some dialogue which references him 'brewing' the estus soup himself
Not gonna lie, I instantly subbed when he said “why tf is there a crab in the ball” lol
something unexpected happened on my second dark souls 3 playthrough. I got to road of sacrifices and anri of astora was a male instead so i think maybe it has to do with the gender i chose for my character. I have nothing against this it was just unexpected since i thought there was only a female version of anri
I think because if you do anri questline you have to marry her/him so u need to be different gender
anris questline is this help anri and then kill her friend horace
Johncat Anri is always the oposite gender of your character. And no Anri questline is not to help her and kill Horace, you're missing a big thing about her/him ;)
Marrying him/her is not the Part of his/her Questline. Helping him/her killing Aldricht is.

I just have troubles finding people who still make DS3 videos, and not only on PvP. I'm just having a difficult time finding people that make "all things DS3" videos. Great stuff! Keep it up!
yeah man fuck vaati
I found that you can make the firekeeper turn away with the farron etiquet emote aswell
Wow, the Pontiff beast thing is actually kinda sad. To think they still have a shred of humanity, where it appears they plead with you to give them mercy, jeez Louise that's some tough stuff.
The fire keeper also turns around if you dunked your head on wax and then returned to the shrine while your head is in wax.
should I get this game??
Hell yeah.
+VaatiVidya second that
Of bloody course.
I agree, bloodborne is an awesome way to start your way into the souls series, it's a perfect game, and if you like it, play ds2 and 3, ds1 is kinda hard to play nowadays for new comers
Thx guys!!
"She sees other worlds than this one"
She has Daredevil vision. Just pointing her sensory organs in your direction burns her insides.

Maybe it's more out of fear than disgust. Or maybe using those rings is considered blasphemy of some kind.

The quality of these videos staggering, even seven years later this video still has more effort and care than most of the videos on TH-cam now a days
Me: watches this three years later for the tenth time, learning nothing new
Also me: no, no joke, I just have no life
Did Sulivahn really fuck up the royal family completely on his own? What a badass.

I'm #TRIGGERED
my friend told me this and it makes sense in the story of dark souls.
That's not a crab. That's Limit Breakers, surrounded by a metaphorical ball of useless data.
in archdragon peak their is some stones that have been written in Arabic
they talks about minister. And iron.Acts of worship.Trendy. Treatments.
I lol'd so hard when the hollow slowly backed away with the captions at 9:05
